xxxxxJack Mallory, Captain of Division Three, the nicest words ever used to describe her were “self-confident flirt.” There were worse words and, Jack was immune to them all. People talked and, Jack didn’t mind it when people spoke truth
xxxxxA similar woman was the “self-assured warrior” of Division Elven. Kenpachi Nanashi Yamamoto. She paid no attention to the insults. People were small and, she could beat them all with ease.
xxxxxBoth women were at a bar on the Division Eleven grounds. Captain Yamamoto is relaxing after a hard day of work or training. Captain Mallory is looking for a willing bed partner. Both women are not having much luck. The bar is too loud and, people aren’t looking to sleep with any one.
xxxxxSo Jack has pulled back. Her cheerful laugh indicates that she has no hard feelings. Nanashi is not surprised. Jack is a decent person even if she is a little strange. Which makes the Kenpachi wonder; what makes the so-called Archer of Death tick? Nanashi has a plan. A training spar is sure to relax her and, betting on the outcome is a wager Nanashi is sure to win. She is the best at combat. The winner can make the loser do anything legal. Too bad Nanashi has forgotten that Jack rarely plays fair once consent has been given. The results of a curiosity fueled bet are sure to be interesting.
Rules:
1. This is a character development between Jack Mallory and Nanashi Yamamoto. You are free to read/watch but no posting. 2. This will morph into combat at some point. Since they are both Captains there are no limits but, no killing. It’s just a friendly training spar. 3. Constructive criticism is welcome. Being mean is not. 4. Let the other party know if there will be a break in posting longer than 48 hours. Please and thank you. 5. HAVE FUN! If you aren’t having fun there is no point and, we can call it off.

Leaning back against the bar a small sake cup in her hand, the raven haired woman looked around the bar at her annoyingly loud division. Why did this group have to live up to the image of wild animals with swords. Oh how she'd love a well organized army with which to conquer the universe, okay maybe not but a least a division that could keep in ranks. With a sigh she sipped her drink before looking at her friend, Captain Mallory was really the only person the Kenpachi would use the word friend to describe. To Nanashi everyone else was ether in the okay to kill and not okay to kill groups; she truly hated the length of the ladder group. Yet here she was with her friend who in addition to befriending the Kenpachi also served as a constant pool of curiosity for her. However Jack had always found a way to weasel out of Nanashi's questions, which is why this time she'd prepared a trap for Jack.
With a heavy sigh Nanashi placed her drink down, "so how's life in the third division oh great Archer of Death?" Nanashi put a little extra emphasis on Jack's title as a way to joke with her fellow captain. Though the division had gotten use to Captain Mallory coming around the 11th they still found it strange that the Kenpachi acted almost like a normal person around her, but a monster the rest of the time. Unbeknownst to them this change was due to the trust Nanashi had in Jack, who had seen and learned things about the kenpachi no one else knew.
"Jack sorry these baboons aren't interested in your offer but they are mostly drunk so I doubt they'd pass your sobriety test." Laughing Nanashi wondered how to purpose her idea without forcing it, something she wasn't good at. The kenpachi was the kind to rush in head first not sneak around; but her normal tactics had failed in this endeavor thus she resigned herself to try anything.
Jack laughed at Nanashi’s observation, “True! But not everyone is drunk. There is a boy in the back corner waiting for another boy who hasn’t even touched his first drink. He is hiding because he comes from a minor noble family that doesn’t approve of his preferences. If you can say something encouraging you’ll have a loyal follower until the day you die.” Jack took a drink of her lemonade, “This is a shame. I was hoping for a lay.” Jack laughed, “It looks like I’ll have to head somewhere else. Besides if I stay her for much longer on of my officers while find me and scowl at me.” Jack tossed her hair and smiled at her fellow Captain, “What about you Nanashi? You just looking to relax or are you hoping to bond with your division?”
Yes Jack was flirting with the Kenpachi. However she wasn’t being serious. It looked like Nanashi was drinking to get drunk. If Jack got serious Nanashi might stop. Jack didn’t want to pull her friend away from what she wanted to do. Jack took another swig of her drink. She was in a frightfully good mood. Of course she was always is a good mood.

Looking at the boy Jack had indicated, the woman found herself unsure what words to say. If the preference Jack had meant was relationship wise, she wouldn't be able to help. When she was alive it was socially acceptable for homosexual unions; true they didn't get married but otherwise feudal age Japan was quite open in that aspect. It seemed foolish that people now cared for such things. "Jack you know I'm no good at touchy feely stuff." Nanashi finally responded looking at the boy on last time before turning back towards the red head.
A s Jack sipped her lemonade, laughing about her lack of luck with finding a lay, the Kenpachi saw her chance. "Actually I was hoping to find a good spar, but even if I took on my whole division in this bar I'd only end up have old man Niwa yelling at me." Suddenly a little glint could be seen in her eyes as if she just had an idea. "Unless you want to join me for a match. But a normal match would be boring so let's make it interesting the winner can ask the loser to do anything they want so long as no laws are broken again I'd had to have Niwa complain." As she finished speaking, Nanashi rose from her stool and reached out her hand to Jack. "What do you say?"[/bvl} .
Jack was slightly put out, “Oh come on Nanashi. It’s easy. The next time you see the boy sparing with someone and, it seems a little too happy or sexually charged just say something like, ‘I’m glad to see you’ve found a partner that matches you.’ It will be good for the both of you. Or if you need to be a little more blunt call him into your office and say, ‘Captain Mallory an I had a discussion regarding you and, I approve.’ Either way he’ll know what you are referring to. Just don’t let the other members of your squad tease him. He’s a person like everyone else and, he feels like a freak. That’s not a nice feeling. Trust me I know.”
Then Nanashi made her proposal. Jack raised an eyebrow; anything she wanted. Well it wouldn’t be hard for Jack to decide what she wanted. Nanashi had to know that. As for want Nanashi wanted; that was a mystery. Then Jack saw the glint in Nanashi’s eyes. Jack forced herself not to groan. Nanashi wanted to pry into her past. Jack didn’t like talking about her past. Jack looked at Nanashi. She knew the Kenpachi’s weakness and, Nanashi had never said anything about playing fair.
So Jack grinned as slipped her hand into Nanashi, “It’s a bet! Shall we move this to the training grounds?”

Thinking it over a moment Nanashi shrugged, "I guess I can give it a try. After all contrary to popular belief you normally give good advice," the kenpachi said slightly teasing her friend. It was true most didn't think highly of Jack; but since the incident were an officer made a comment to Nanashi and she sent him through a few wall most kept their opinions to themselves. The kenpachi didn't enjoy others talking about her friend behind her back.
W hen Jack raised her eyebrow the Kenpachi made the most innocent face she could, which given who she was the face was surprisingly good. However her innocent face changed back when she saw Jack's own grin, it was then she realized the mistake she'd made. The captain of the third division had been complaining about her mini dry spell; now with Nanashi over looking the combat only clarification Jack had an edge. If the kenpachi's shoulders and neck became bare she'd lose. .
S till holding onto Jack's hand the kenpachi led Jack to her new place of residence, the newly refurbished Yukimori compound. Ever since the Tora incident where that b*****d of a third seat had utterly humiliated her, Nanashi had been working on her own place away from the castle. Despite the division's warnings about the area meant to stay untouched in honor of the clan Nanashi had converted it into her house anyways.
Jack let Nanashi drag her to a safe place to spar. Jack looked over her should to see a boy from Division Three approach the boy Jack had referred to earlier. Jack smiled as her boy approached Nanashi’s boy casually. Things would be alright if both the Kenpachi and the Archer of Death were fighting on the boys’ side.
Jack told Nanashi, “That boy we were talking about. His sparring partner will be from my division. Just so you know.”
Jack looked around the training ground. There were plenty of place for her to perch and hid. Then she could rain down a barrage of destruction. Jack pulled her Zanpakutō from the sheath on her back. She gave it a flick outward but, didn’t release it just yet.
Jack smiled as she bowed, “Ladies first!”
Jack was the furthest thing from a lady and, everyone knew it. Jack didn’t mind people saying it. Jack was the chilliest person in the Seireitei. Words just didn’t get to her. On the other hand Nanashi was a lot closer to being a lady. She had grace, poise and, attitude. She could also kick some serious butt. Jack got ready to do battle; this was going to be great!

Nanashi almost laughed at the irony of the boy from her division with one from Jack's, though the two were only friends with benefits it was still funny. However the kenpachi chose not to laugh as Jack might not care for the irony of it. Shrugging it off as Jack took her position and bowed to Nanashi claiming that it was ladies first. "Since when am I a lady, Jackie? " The kenpachi knew Jack hated Old Man Niwa's nick name for her so she made sure to have a grin on while saying it to show she meant no harm.
M oving into a battojutsu stance with her left leg back so her knee was parallel to the ground while her right knee was bent; as a sign of respect the kenpachi intended to move in with her heavenly dragon style from the start. The old bamboo water fountain knocked once against the rocks in the quiet night air as she stayed perfectly still, but as it hit a second time she would vanish. Shooting forward at speeds comparable to a shunpo master, the kenpachi drew her blade with a masterful slash aimed to slice from right hip to left shoulder. Though a simple attack its speed made this more dangerous than it appeared. .
T here it was the thrill of battle, the thirst for bloodshed. This old friend of hers was here to great Jack with cold steel that showed Nanashi knew the Third Division Captain had earned her spot. Knowing her opponent was a long range fighter Nanashi intended to keep her in close range least she lose her advantage.
Jack scowled, “There is a reason I don’t like to be called Jacky! Does anybody care about that at all? No they don’t. I ask for so little!”
Jack was about to rant some more but, Nanashi was headed at her with almost Shunpo speeds. It was time to get off the ground. Jack did use Shunpo to flash to a ledge about 10 meters above Nanashi. Jack bent her knees. Nanashi was moving quickly; aiming would be difficult. , Jack released her Zanpakutō, “Stain it red, Chimamire no Yuki!” Then Jack took careful aim, “Ya no Kōri!”
The bolt of ice flew toward the Kenpachi. It wasn’t actually aimed at the Kenpachi. It was aimed at where Jack thought Nanashi would be. That was the key to hitting a moving target. You have to aim at where it was going to be; not where it was.
Jack took the opportunity to move to a higher ledge. This time she let her legs dangle over the edge. That was probably a bad idea. Nananshi would probably grab her feet to pull her down. Jack moved to stand. That was better. She could move faster that way. Jack prepared to send another arrow.

Laughing a little as Jack reacted to the nickname just as the kenpachi had expected, Nanashi would push the issue to try and keep the archer off her game. "Oh I care, I've actually been very curious about that since our first meeting when the old man called you that. Alas you rarely explain yourself my friend." Nanashi spoke loud enough for her opponent to hear without actually yelling.
N anashi would feel Jack's shunpo before she saw it, thus allowing her to react faster. Since drawing her blade the kenpachi's precognitive like spiritual sensing had been going full blast, allowing her to see Jack's energy inside her body. However as she stopped a wave of cold air passed by her face; she had stop to jump towards Jack, knowing the other captain had released her shikai. Yet she couldn't sense the arrows, being made of ice with minimal spiritual energy, this combined with its speed made the arrow difficult to fallow. Perhaps next time she'd be able to be for the first time in a very long while the kenpachi was fighting half blind. .
F allowing Jack to the higher grounds, Nanashi attempted to get close to her opponent. The best way to do this was to get her distracted, "so Jack what is it you want IF you win? Because win or lose you'll still get a lay, that's why I took you to my house and not the dojo. So I wonder what could our mighty Archer of Death want?" While it was true Nanashi wouldn't mind another night with Jack, she'd actually brought her here to keep secrets just that secret.
Jack called out, “What do you mean win or lose I get to lay with you? Then what the hell am I fighting for? Honor and glory, I guess.”
Jack knew why she was fighting. Nanashi couldn’t be allowed to win. Why the Kenpachi was so determined to discovered Jack’s past was beyond the Archer of Death. Jack saw it every time she closed her eyes. Jack did not desire to force her nightmares on anyone. Jack wasn’t too worried about keeping her secrets, well secret. Nanashi wasn’t the first to ask these questions and, she wouldn’t be last. Jack hadn’t discussed it with anyone and, wasn’t about to start now.
Jack flashed behind Nanashi, “Ya no Kōri!”
Jack landed on a ledge on the opposite end of the courtyard as the arrow flew through the air. Jack wasn’t aiming for vital spots. Nanashi’s weakness was her neck and shoulders. Jack wanted to destroy the Kenpachi’s shirt to revel her bare skin. Then Jack could place a kiss there. When that happened the battle would be hers.
Jack called out again, “I think I’ll ask to take you shopping for my victory spoils my dear Nanashi. You are beautiful but, you have no idea how to dress. I plan on fixing that.”

As Jack stated she was fighting for honor and glory, the kenpachi nearly fell from the ledge she'd just landed on. "Really honor and glory? Oh well, though I notice you avoided the Jackie question. You are so good at dancing around questions my dear archer." Nanashi said with a smile as she kept fallowing Jack around each time missing her by only a few seconds. It quickly became clear Jack had a lot of experience dodging close range fighters.
J ack used a well placed shunpo to get behind the kenpachi and fired an arrow, yet once again Nanashi actedd on only the step not the attack. Turning to face Jack the arrow zipped by cutting Nanashi's left cheek, the wound was small but it would make smiling a pain. "First blood is yours Jack, but don't worry I'll win the battle." Nanashi spoke with foolhardy confidence, as if this battle was already won. The kenpachi had an almost need to satisfy her curiosity, she just couldn't stand not knowing. .
N ot long after the arrow came Jack brought up a new prize, she wanted to take Nanashi shopping. Having never seen the point of shopping and after the beach the thought somewhat scared her. "We will see, but looks like nether of us plans to lose. " Nanashi said leaping at Jack with a powerful over head slash aimed at her opponent.
Jack moved to flash away from the strike but wasn’t quite fast enough. Jack’s jacket was sliced of. Jack shrugged it off without pausing. Jack was wearing a red lace camisole underneath. Jack landed in the courtyard before shooting back up to the roof. Jack looked over at Nanashi and, scowled. Nanashi was bleeding but, her shirt was intact. That had not been the goal.
Jack called out, “I think we may be at an impasse. You have to pull me in and, I am happy to stay away. However you move to fast for my aim to be very effective.” Jack took aim anyways, “Ya no Kōri!”
The arrow flew at Nanashi. Once again Jack aimed to tear Nanashi’s shirt. However Jack did so by aiming at Nanashi’s heart. The speed at which Nanashi was moving meant that Jack’s arrow wouldn’t hit her heart and, hopefully it would tear her shirt. Jack could only hope.

Jack was a slippery one, when Nanashi thought she'd finally got her it turned out to be just her haori and robes. However she didn't have long to brood over her failed attempt as Jack's body got in position to fire an arrow. Flipping backwards the arrow would pierce the area her heart would've been had the kenpachi not slipped out of her own haori before flipping.
Now standing in the standard shinigami uniform, Nanashi silently cursed realizing Jack had just gotten one of her three lines of protection down. Half looking back at her pinned coat the raven haired woman laughed. "You may look like a beautiful love goddess but I doubt that arrow hitting my demon heart would've been good. Then again I don't know if demons have hearts," shrugging her thoughts off she returned her full attention on Jack. .
Hearing Jack's comment on their impasse, Nanashi smiled. "Well then we could call it a tie, both win both lose. Or you could give up," ordinarily the kenpachi would never offer such options. Yet as this was a friendly spar she saw no harm it offering even if a slight nervous expression flashed across her face at the "both lose" moment. This was because she was not sure how to be a girl and go shopping. "Oh and I can guarantee that my request isn't what you think it is." Nanashi spoke as if it was an after thought.
Jack grinned as she saw Nanashi leave her haori behind. That was one layer down. That meant progress. It wasn’t bare skin like Jack had wanted but, Jack would take what she could get. However she knew that she need to end this battle fast or else she would start to slow down and, Nanashi would get a hit in. Jack listened to Nanashi’s proposal. It was unacceptable. Jack needed to win. It wasn’t just for her; it was for Nanashi as well. It didn’t matter if Nanashi would never understand that.
Jack raised an eyebrow, “Not what I think? So you aren’t trying to dig into my deep dark past or inner psyche. So what do you want?” Jack grinned, “Come on spill. I gave you mine so give me yours. What do you have in mind for the victory spoils?” Jack sighed, “You know you aren’t the first person to try and pry into my past. I doubt you will be the last. No one has ever succeeded or ever will. What people truly don’t understand is that when I say, ‘What you see is what you get’ I mean it. There’s no terrible secret or dreadful scar. I’m just Jack.” Jack grinned again, “What you see is what you get.” Then Jack pulled her bow string back, “Ya no Kōri!”
This one was aimed to slide past a vein in Nanashi’s lower left leg. It would take part of Nanashi’s shirt but, it might slow her down a little. That would certainly help Jack a lot.
