It was true, Umbra wasn't exactly the best at friendmaking. He got along wonderfully with all of his siblings, but that was only because they all understood Umbra. And they all understood that he was just a touch too hotheaded for any other babben to want to put up with him. Or perhaps more than a touch. Sometimes even they had enough of him and needed a break from him and all his energy- and really, Umbra was pretty okay with that. He didn't mind playing alone. He had his own head for that, where he could act out whatever person he wanted to be, and the environment could be anything from a castle to hide in or a foe to be slain.
Which would go a great deal into explaining his current predicament.
Oh he struggled- he trashed and kicked at the tree with his forelegs and even tried to do magic- but nothing, absolutely nothing, would dislodge his little from the bark of the tree he had been dueling with. His little tail swished and he growled and yanked at his head until his neck was sore, irritated and not for a moment mindful that he wasn't really deep into the forest at all. It would be smart to call for help, he was rather close to the edge of the park, but that would be giving up. And he was not a giver-uper!

Belldandy heaved a sigh of relief. It was one of THOSE days at home, one of those noisy, stressful days when everyone was trying to out do the other. Drama was practicing lines and Crooner was singing over her because "he needed to hear himself better" declaring Drama was distracting him. Drama had begun to retaliate by reciting her lines louder and right in Crooner's ear. Moondance was..well..dancing. The filly was practicing her steps and had cranked her music super loud to drown out Drama and Crooner. On top of all this were Aurora and Pale scolding their children to keep it down, as they were writing music for the band. Amidst the chaos, Bell had slipped out of the house and made her way to the park. Leaves crunching under hoof, the cool weather inspired Bell to explore a little deeper into the woods to get a better look at the changing colors. The color she wasn't expecting was a brilliant shade of dark blue. At first she thought the colt was just resting or thinking, until he reared up, shoving his forehooves into the tree, thrashing. His head did not move. Belldandy stood there for a moment awkwardly, unsure how to approach this. "I..uhm.." she called out softly so she wouldn't scare the other. "Hello..uhm..do you need help? You sort of look like you do..."

For perhaps a split second Umbra wondered if one of his siblings had found him. The voice had been soft- but no, he recognized his sister's voices and that was not one of them. It was more than enough to agitate the already upset colt- to think he mistook someone else's voice for family, even for the briefest of seconds. No one could possibly sound as wonderful as his family, and through the power of sheer stubborn thick-headedness, he was determined that it must be the unknown filly's fault. For having the gall to sound close. Or something. It was rather hard to think clearly when one's horn was lodged in a big dumb tree.
"I most certainly do not need help." He hissed, trying to twist his head to get a look at who had intruded upon his playing. Or... pause in playing. Since he couldn't actually play much, unless he wanted to pretend he was... Treehead the Conqueror. Which sounded dumb anyways. Well he couldn't get a look at her, and it didn't do much to dislodge his horn either. Stupid horn, what was the point of having one if it wasn't even good at impaling? Or... impaling, then being unstuck?

"Umm..." Bell crooked her head a little, trying to figure out what was going on. "No I think you do.." she said hesitantly. Despite being hissed at, Bell crept closer to get a full idea of what was going on. It took a moment but she could finally see the base of his horn, which was..oh... "Maybe I should get an adult.." she said. "I've uhm..I gotten my horn stuck in the head joint of my flute before so you shouldn't feel bad! It happens." she hoped that would make the colt feel better before she ran off to get help. "I can get Miss Glory, she'll help I'm sure." Bell turned to leave.

"Wait!" It was a shout of desperation more than anything thought through- though hardly like he was thinking anything through at the moment. His teacher coming out to find him stuck like this would be the worst. He didn't like the mare half as much as his mother, but she was still better than most others, which was enough to keep Umbra from being too rowdy in class.
"... Don't get any adults. Just go, okay? I'll get myself unstuck." The colt huffed, once again lifting his hooves to press against the bark of the tree, pushing hard and getting absolutely nowhere at all. Stubborn colt would probably let himself starve there than ask the filly for help.

Bell stopped and turned around. "Oh but I really think.." but the colt seemed very insistent that no adults should be notified and that she should just leave but the soft heart filly just couldn't do both. "W..well I could help you or at least I could try to help you. Aren't you tired from struggling?" The unicorn stood up on her back legs to try and get a better view of the problem. "Maybe if I can chip away some of the bark you're horn will be loose enough to free?"

The unicorn froze in his struggling- not from being tired, but that the filly was getting closer. He wasn't exactly used to anyone that was not family going anywhere near him. Knock one kid down on his first day of school and suddenly he's the school pariah. Or maybe they were just scared for their skins. Eh. Umbra didn't mean to hurt anyone. He could just get pretty excitable and forget his strength. But with a completely serious expression still on his face.
"M'fine..." Umbra mumbled, tail swishing restlessly but otherwise unmoving. He couldn't tell how close the girl was- and well- he didn't like hurting anyone, and certainly not soft-voiced girls that want to help. Even if she was particularly nosy. He didn't want to keep thrashing about if she was close enough to be struck by a flailing hoof.

The colt most likely couldn't see it, but Bell was relieved that he was allowing her to help. Her back up plan, if he continued to deny help, was going to be sitting near him and keeping him company till some phony's parents came looking for a missing foal. Using one of her tiny hooves, she started chipping and pawing at some of the thicker pieces of bark around his horn. "Oh.." she said, pausing a moment. "My name is Belldandy by the way." She began chipping away at the bark again, trying very, very hard not to hit his horn while doing so, occasionally stopping to gently brush off some of the bark fragments off his ears or his mane. "Does it..feel any looser?"

Umbra thought that he rather deserved a metal for not flinching or fidgeting as the filly worked at the bark, and even more invasive, brushed at his mane. He would have started hollering, cheeks flushed, if he hadn't swiftly realized she was just knocking the bits of bark off. Which was... nice, he guessed. But still kind of weird.
"I donno, lemme see-" Honestly and truly, Umbra didn't expect her little delicate attempts to free him would actually work. He wouldn't have pushed half as hard against the tree if he thought he was actually going to be freed, and maybe if he had he wouldn't have come crashing back when his horn popped free. Maybe he wouldn't have bowled over the filly- Belldandy- in the process, either. He didn't even realize he had for a solid moment, laying on his back and staring up at the tree canopy as the world caught up to him and rather painfully informed him he had a crick in his neck from how long he had been stuck with his head bowed. The colt hissed as he wiggled his way back onto his hooves, head twisting in vain attempt to work out that twinge of pain.

Bell never got a word in edgewise before the colt bowled into her. She wouldn't have minded exactly, as she was trying help free him anyway and he wasn't intending to pop free at that exact moment with such force. The pale filly tumbled backward tail over horn and landed with hard thump and a loud crack against a fallen log. When the world stopped spinning, Belldandy slowly sat herself up, her mane littered with dust and leaves. "What happ..oh..oh!" Bell noticed that the colt was free. "Hey, it worked! That's great!" She went to pull herself up onto her hooves but her left leg buckled and she landed back on her flank again. "Ow.." Twisting her leg around a bit, she could see red and blue already welling around her left elbow. Frowning, she kept testing the leg, putting a little weight on it. Each time it buckled and the pain was starting to get worse. Luafien Hope you and your mom are doing better these days!

Completely unaware of the pickle his polite rescuer had gotten herself into, Umbra rapidly went from surprised to a quiet sort of pleased, a very small smile pulling on his muzzle as he stood tall. His head shook, knocking off the rest of the bark crumbs off of him and trotted happily in a very free circle before even glancing Belldandy's way.
"... Thanks, I guess... What's wrong with you?" His voice shifted at the end like he hadn't just been the one with his horn stuck in a tree, nose scrunched up.

"My leg..I think I landed badly after we got you free." Her voice was starting to break as the pain, which had started as sharp sting began to ebb into a deep throbbing. "It really hurts." She looked at him and tried to keep a smile on her face even as tears sparkled in her eyes. "But at least we got you free. You aren't hurt are you?" The filly moved like she was going to stand again but barely moved before she whimpered and remained seated. Luafien Thanks for the reminder and quick link back!

Umbra looked very uncomfortable as he stared down at the filly, much like he was eyeing up a nasty spill he might have to clean up rather than a filly who had banged her leg. Well she didn't... seem too bad. Not howling in pain or anything. She'd be fine and Umbra could leave with his whatever shreds of dignity he had left.
"I'm fine. Uh. Thanks, I guess. Bye." And Umbra really did intend to leave right then- he hadn't given her his name, so it wasn't like she could go shouting that Umbra had gotten his horn stuck in a tree. But that little whimper fell on his gut like a two-ton rock and Umbra froze three steps out with immense guilt. He was a lot of things. A little wild, yes. A jerk? Occasionally. He did not, however, just leave phonies hurt and alone.
"I didn't ask for your help." He huffily reminded both himself and Belldandy as he turned around, stomping back up to the filly. He gave her a rather severe look as he dropped to the ground next to her, "Well? Climb on. You're not going to be able to just walk out."

"I..." she'd started to protest before the colt had dropped down beside her and commanded her to climb on his back. She blinked in surprise just before huge, sparkling tears trickled down her cheeks. "O..ook.." It took some clumsy effort before she managed to mostly fall across Umbra's back and shoulders. Situated on him as best as she could, Bell found the most comfortable place for her head was in his mane. "Thank you.." she whimpered quietly, pressing her cheek and nose into his mane. After a quiet moment. "I'm glad I helped you anyway."

Umbra stayed as still as possible as the filly shifted onto him, not trusting his still rather erratic grasp of magic to help her when it could very easily make it much worse. The colt huffed as he dug his hooves in and pushed himself up, knees wobbling dangerously before he found his balance. He wasn't exactly the big strong stallion his father was (yet), but imagining himself to be helped him from feeling like he might collapse. He could do this. Belldandy really didn't weigh that much at all. Situation: manageable.
His first tentative step forward did not end in calamity, and each step after had more confidence as he slowly took them both out of the treeline and towards the schoolhouse.
"Well, you should be more careful. You might accidentally help someone who's way more of a jerk than me." His words may be rough, but his tone was soft, nearly mumbled. Even though he was helping her now, he still felt a little guilty that she had gotten hurt helping him out of his own dumb situation.
