Long days were something the stallion was use to by now and the weather was beginning to get colder, he could feel it. Winter was coming and he wasn’t sure if he should dread it or simply embrace it. It was going to happen no matter what and he would just have to trudge through it like he always did. He shivered lightly against the cool breeze and looked around the woods for a moment. It was fairly quiet. Something he liked and enjoyed. He couldn’t stand when things were noisy or too crazy. It was one of the reasons why he stayed far away from his family. He didn’t want to deal with all the drama and he never wanted to be involved in it either. They always had something going on.

He let out a small sigh. The ground was still damp from the sudden storm that hit not too long ago. He could still feel his hooves sink a little bit into the soft soil. The air was still cool and soon he knew it was going to be nightfall. The forest was going to be a very dark place and he didn’t want to be stuck in it once the sun went down. Most of the time he wouldn’t mind and he rarely traveled outside it, but today he was doing something a little different. He stepped out from the lining of the forest and walked out into the open short grass plains. They always looked the same and with the approaching sunset, there wasn’t much of a difference. He never saw the beauty in anything. He wouldn’t even call himself attractive nor would he call someone else that. He preferred not being vain and kept most of those thoughts to himself. Even now, he didn’t think there was much beauty in the world.

It was a pain to even be alive at times.

He slowly walked reliving his childhood in his head. He was a special child. His emotions died at a young age and everyday had been a struggle for him. From foalhood to adulthood, there had always been some kind of issues. He didn’t know how to express himself. He couldn’t even smile. His father believed he was suffering from the same ailment he once had until he found Enitan. There wasn’t much he could do until something broke that cold barrier of ice around his heart. He still didn’t understand it to this day and for Nevin, it was just something he didn’t want to deal with.

He was afraid to open up his heart or show his emotions to anyone. If he did, he knew he would have issues containing them and that frightened the hell out of him. He would never show his fear or let anyone know he was afraid. He couldn’t because then he would be seen as weak.

But for now, he wasn’t going to worry about any of it. Evening was coming quickly and he didn’t like to travel at night, so he needed to find a place to rest for a couple hours or through the night.

The only problem was…he didn’t know where that was going to be.

The winds were changing, and with them came an air of new beginnings. The oncoming cold would be the young mare's first official glimpse into something both unwelcome and unexpected, and the mare wasn't quite sure how it made her feel. She was an adult now, by all standards - both literal and figurative - she was an adult. There were responsibilities to uphold, and a life waiting to begin and any normal Soquili would jump at the chance to finally be free. Free and active, in doing whatever it was that you please - except, this particular mare had been hesitant from day one. Hesitant not only for the fact that the world was brand new, and a white blanket would soon cover every inch the eye could see, but also because, well, it would mean she would have to face herself. This mare, after all, was in fact, a mutant. A mutant in the sense that her body image did not match the standard Soquili body image. She had...a tail fit for some creature out of a storybook. Her bones, dainty and fragile as they were, stuck out of her two front legs like it was the most natural thing in the world. These traits, she shared with her 'twin' sister, were the front runners as to why she was so afraid.

Afraid of well, lots of things. But most importantly, of even her own shadow.

How Stellis could be so accepting, or perhaps rather, indifferent, of her traits was beyond the young mare. How could she not see...? Not see the things that made her stick out as a sore thumb among the natural beauty of the world? Trucio was not jealous, no, jealousy was a petty trait, but she did feel at odds with her own inner demons. How could they be so strong within her, and yet glaze over her sister in no bigger form than a fleeting thought? She was so lucky, Stellis, for having the ability to think outside of herself. To put aside all thought of self-doubt and worthlessness, and just live.

It hadn't taken Trucio too long to notice that her perception of herself traveled it's way into her dreams and those dreams became nightmares. Too often a time she'd wake up, panting or in shock, too afraid to fall back asleep. The demons that haunted her every move while she lived and breathed the normal world, began to appear in forms of other foals or creatures within her nightmares. Look at your tail, they would sneer, out of laughter and of fear. You're so weird. Evil. Evil. Don't kill me, you're evil! Although they haunted her only when she slept, the image and the thought of it happening while she wandered the living earth frightened her. And so it caused her to fold within herself, which in turn caused her to be afraid of her own shadow.

In spite of all this, however, there were still bits and pieces of the young mare that wanted to believe. Wanted to believe that she could be more than what she saw in her reflection. That her life - and everything she had to offer, really, truly mattered. She would do whatever it took to prove to herself that this was true, but first she had to convince all those around her. Yes, that was it - convince total strangers that she was not a demon, or a creature of the night, or anything else her inner demons accused her of being, and then...she'd be fine. Right? It made sense, through all the sleepless nights and the hours of dedication toward logic and reasoning, it made sense. It was the only way Trucio thought she'd ever really be happy.

Finding beauty in life, and proving to others that beauty existed. Now, if only she could find it in herself.

On this particular night, the young mare had uncharacteristically decided to venture out further than the norm. Generally speaking she stayed close to her family's home, but tonight, for some quizzical reason, her dainty little legs carried her a tad bit more in distance. Sighing softly, clearly lost in thought and realization where she was going, the young mare wound up traveling along a tiny path within the plains. It would be nightfall soon, and she should have turned around ages ago...but her thoughts were deep within themselves, and her hooves just kept right on moving.

If only she knew where she'd end up.

Still the stallion remained deep in his thoughts. He found it hard to distract himself from them with would often be so lost in his own mind he wouldn’t know what was going on around him. As he walked, he remembered all the times when he was a foal and his siblings would have the time of their life while he just watched. Eventually his sister and brother mellowed out when they reached adults, but they didn’t suffer like him. He resented his family. His sister was mated off and his brother was out there somewhere in the world. He didn’t really have anyone except for his father and his mother. He never told his father what was bothering him or why he was the way he was. He didn’t want him to worry especially since he had thirteen children to worry about. Every time he turned around it seemed like there was a new child in the family. He didn’t mind it too much since he knew it made his father happy. He simply didn’t get involved with any of it. He kept to himself and avoided his large family line at all costs.

Being a foal was never easy especially when your in his family. If Gabriel got his hands on you then you pretty much were going to be put through hell being a warrior. It was probably one of the reasons why his cousins, Zachariah, hadn’t been around. There was just too much going on and he never understood why there was all this drama all the time. For now everything was pretty calm and that scared him. The Maheo Herd was never calm. It was never this quiet. Either something horrible was about to occur or he was just over thinking everything. He remembered when he was young he would go on adventures daily just to get away from everyone and everything. It was a habit that formed into the norm for his adulthood. Now it was something that he couldn’t break away from.

He remembered that during then it was when he began wearing his mask. When it came to achieving a mask, it usually was only the stallions that received them. On rare occasions, mare had gotten them, but not all the time. He had remembered his father giving it to him and telling him he would eventually grow into it. He didn’t even know why it was something he eventually used to hide behind. It became something he didn’t remove and there was no way he would ever remove it for anyone. It was as if it was forever stuck onto his face. It was as much a part of him as anything else. He couldn’t imagine his life without it.

Without thinking or even registering where he was right now, the stallion collided into someone or something. It was only a simple bump and it was enough to snap him out of his mind for the moment. He eyed the mare with glowing eyes taking in her strange features knowing almost immediately that this mare was a little on the odd side. At least from how she looked she was. For all he knew, she acted differently then she looked and coming from his family, he knew not to judge anyone.

There was no apology that escaped his mouth though. He simply stared at her as if it was her fault for him bumping into her. He didn’t expect her to say anything either. He was far to fascinated with how she looked. The bone showing and the flowers that looked like they were growing out of her. Her tail was also a little strange. She was a walking oddity and there wasn’t anything wrong with it, he just never met someone that looked like her.

“Are you lost?” He asked out of habit. He was always helping those who had gotten lost or needed directions to get somewhere.

“If you are, I can help you find your way. If you are not, then there is nothing I can help you with.” He said in a placid tone. He was helpful like his father, but only with those who are lost. Everyone else he didn’t care what happened to them. This mare was really no exception to that rule. She was a stranger to him. Nothing more.

His eyes never left her just in case she wanted to try something. He learned that you always had to be careful of everyone. But then he opened his mouth to speak and the question on his mind wasn’t the best way to speak with a stranger.

“What are you?”

Family had been something Trucio was raised to believe was the most important thing ever gifted to the living. Having something, or someone in your life that you could give up your own life to save, and have them love you unconditionally, was an amazing feeling. She loved her sister, her brothers, and her mother. She loved her mother's family. The mare was never really without those of whom she cared deeply for, and yet, she failed to care that deeply about herself.

She'd do anything to protect the ones she loved, whatever that meant.

The collision with the stranger startled her, and it took a few moments of stunned silence before she realized what exactly it was that happened. Trucio gave him the same look he was giving her, just staring, not really thinking about what it was that took place between them. Had she bumped into him? Had he her? Ack! Wel, that didn't matter, what mattered was that it happened, and now he was gaping at her. Gaping as if to suggest that he was in awe of what was before him, and immediately Trucio began to think the worst. He thought her hideous. Ugly. Disgusting. A beast. A monster.

Had she...had she heard him correctly? Was there a whisper in the wind, mistakenly understood for words he spoke? Or was it true, what her ears had grasped? Those words...they cut into her core as harsh as any of the creatures of the dreams. The mare blinked, staring at him as though he was the monster, and she the bug. What are you. Not who; not how. Not any other politically correct, or polite phrase. What. "I..," she stammered, unable to put her fear into words. She was the monster all along, wasn't she? She was the one to be feared, to be ridiculed and mocked out of existence. She shock her head violently, never taking her eyes off the stallion before her. She was a what. An it. A thing. Not a mare, a Soquili or even Trucio Benevolentia. Wasn't she?

A few seconds of what could be perceived as awkward silenced passed between the pair until finally a faint whisper could be heard, "...I don't know. What I am. I don't know."

It was true. She could tell him she was a monster, bred for destruction and despair, to match the looks given on the outside but then...that would be false, would it not? She could tell him she was kind, benevolent, loving...but, would her oddities be called into question? Was she really those things she thought she was? It had occurred to her plenty of times before, and now it came to surface once again...what if she wasn't what she thought she was. What if there really was evil within her, waiting and hoping to come out with full swing, unsuspecting to both it's holder and it's victim. Her family had a history of some sort of corruptness to it, and maybe, just maybe, Trucio took after that side of her family more than she realized.

Her mother had told her the mutant traits came as a gift. And yet, they certainly felt more like a curse.

The stallion's question didn't exactly help, either.

Trucio was about to turn around and run; run and not face what she couldn't admit to, until a thought appeared in the back of her mind. The stallion had a strange trait to him too, did he not? Those...bones that stuck up off the top of his head were certainly things she didn't expect from an 'average' Soquili, and yet, here was one! Bones! Just like hers! Well, she supposed, not technically just like hers, for this stallion's bones didn't look evil or protruding, nor did the pointy ends look anywhere near as sharp.

Oh, but wait. Those were not bones. Those were antlers. Yes, the very same things that deer around these parts had. He was not abnormal. He shared a trait with another species, and although she had never seen it on a Soquili before, it did not make him unique. Not like her. However much she stared at him, she found bits and pieces of him that she deemed beautiful. Those bones....why couldn't hers look normal? That coat! It was so shiny! And that tail! A gorgeous, perfectly normal equine-like tail.

There she was again, complementing and admiring others, while simultaneously destroying her own self. It was a cruel and unusual way of self punishment, but it was, simply, just who she was.

So she smiled at him, beaming a bright, and comforting smile. The wave of fear that once washed over her had disappeared, and she stood before him, confident and friendly. "I could ask you the same." And then, with the realization that she was actually talking to a complete stranger, the mare's eyes darted around their surroundings. Oh! Where was it exactly that she was? How far and how long had she been walking? Oh, dear! A quick scan behind her told the mare that she had crossed her usual border quite some time ago, and was now in completely uncharted territory. "I guess I am lost. Um, well, not lost. Just not where I'm supposed to be." Trucio mumbled, looking from the stallion, to the trees, to the vast open space behind and in front of her, and finally, to the darkening sky. "Although I suppose with night quickly approaching, my way back home is...confusing." She flicked her tail, letting the end of it rub against the grass ever so lightly. It was getting colder, it seemed, with every passing hour. It would appear she'd have to wait till morning to travel back home.

"I'm not usually out this late. I've never seen the moonlight hit the trees like that," she stated, to really no one in particular.

Nevin knew he said something to set the mare off because immediately she began acting strange. She didn’t say anything except for one word at first and then he heard the insecurity in the rest of it. She clearly had issues. As to what they were he didn’t know at all. He remained unchanged as he stared at her. His question was rude and he knew that before it even was said. He didn’t care though he was sure his father would have scolded him for such a remark. He was taught manners at a very young age; he knew how to be nice and how to be mean. He just preferred to be the latter. But then she said other things that made him question her sanity a little bit. Now she was acting like a completely different mare. He could sense the confidence in her voice. It was strange, but not the oddest thing he ever saw or heard.

“I can tell you took my question to heart. I simply wanted to know why you show bone and have flowers growing out of you. I didn’t mean it as an insult, but you can take it as you want. It doesn’t bother me any.” He was emotionless and you could tell just from the way he spoke. There was no emotion or feeling in his words. Even though he meant every single word he said, it was hard to tell since his tone was so…dead.

If his sister Astraea was here, she would tell him that he was being too cruel on her and to lighten up. This was how he was and this was how he was going to stay. He didn’t see anything wrong with it and if others couldn’t accept him for who he was, and then they weren’t worth the time. It was hard to find anyone worth anything anymore. So many wanted to use you and so many didn’t care if you lived or died. Though he supposed he was like that. He wasn’t always like this. There was a time when he actually cared about others and he use to smile. Then his family caused him to shrink back emotionally and put a guard up only to have it eventually kill his emotions. He knew it would happen to and he slowly watched them decay into nothing over the years. Now he was a walking shell of a stallion too afraid to open up to anyone because of past experiences. He still didn’t think he would ever open up about that again.

“Then maybe I can help you find a place to stay for the night.” He spoke softly this time. It was almost comforting depending on how you perceived it. He turned his gaze off her for the first time and began to slowly walk past her. He wasn’t going to admit that he also needed a place to reside just in case she decided to offer her company for the evening. He didn’t want company. He wanted silence and solitude. Two things he would get a little too often.

“Maybe you should come out at night more often. It’s the best part of the day and you see things that you don’t normally see in the daylight.” He was going to say other things, they crossed his mind, but did he really want her cowering again? He lacked confidence himself except he didn’t show it. He appeared to be a well-groomed stallion with a few odd things about him, but not much else. He only hoped she didn’t pick any of his insecurities up during this short travel and she didn’t pick up any more of hers, he wanted to keep this meeting as dull as he could. He didn’t want to get to know her and he definitely didn’t want to make a friend.

“As for me…I am a Cerynei and Regular mix. I am nothing more and nothing less. Just like I’m sure you are a Unicorn am I correct?” He didn’t know what else she was mixed with, but he knew that at least.

Being civil wasn’t one of his strong suits so when he had told her that, he felt a strange sensation hit him. He was being friendly. Something that was new and strange to him. It only caused him to shrink back into his cold harsh nature that had protected him for so long. “If you normally aren’t out this late…then why are you out? It seems rather stupid to wander off when it was getting so close to nightfall anyway.” His words spat out of his mouth like poison.

He turned his head to the side seeing the mare looked uncomfortable again which only made him turn away. Why was he such an a**? His brother would answer with a simple, ‘It’s just how he is.’ So he grew accustomed to hearing it and his brother was right. It was just how he was.

As he pressed on for what felt like forever, he stopped and looked around the open area for some sign of shelter. It seemed hopeless and he could feel the air getting colder by the minute. He wasn’t desperate enough to get close and cuddle with this mare for warmth. In fact, he would rather freeze then do that. He couldn’t see anything except for what looked like a hill with a dark spot in it. He was assuming the dark spot was a cave of some sort, but he didn’t know for sure. They weren’t exactly close.

“Over there.” He began walking towards it feeling the chill from the air run through his body. He shivered slightly and really hoped the mare didn’t see it.

He didn’t want to show her his weakness.

It was true that she had very little experience in the art of communication and social environments, however, something in the way this stallion carried himself made her question the situation. Was he being rude on purpose, or was this more of a game to him? He had asked her such a harsh question, and now there he was commenting on the way she handled the criticism. It was, odd. Odd, yes, but not bad. Perhaps this was the normal way of communicating with strangers, and it was indeed she who needed more practice. Perhaps this stallion wasn't the rude one at all, but in fact, it was her -! Oh! The thought, however fleeting, caused a bit of a panic in her brain, but the small mare was able to contain it before it got out of hand. Keep your cool, she reminded herself, silently, as she prepared herself to answer his questions.

"I was born this way, unfortunately. I'd like to know why, too. My mother has oddities, as do my siblings, but I...," a pause, as she tore her eyes from the trees to the ground, almost ashamed of her insecurities. Why her? Why couldn't she get over it? She was not the only one in her family to have 'strange traits', and yet, she was the only one who thought it might she was unworthy. Evil. Disgusting. Disgraceful. "It's something I live with. I don't know what else to say..."

The deadpan, monotone aura of the stallion before her fit the mood quite nicely. Or, more accurately, fit the inner demons that were slowly creeping their way into the young mare's mind. He wasn't interested in her, not in the slightest. They were complete strangers, of course, but all he cared about were her mutations. Not her. Trucio Benevolentia hadn't even given him her name, and he was already questioning her body image. Of course. Just like she had thought. It was always going to be about her creepy bones. She sighed, thinking that it was never going to end; that there would be no cure, no help to get her to believe in herself. She knew it, truly, deep down within herself, somewhere....that she had the ability to believe, but....it was difficult. When someone you barely even know question what you are, it hurts.

Unequivocally and deeply. It just hurt.

And then, a comforting group of words left the stallion's mouth. He was willing to help her find a place to stay? Help her? Trucio smiled at him, nodding silently in recognition and appreciation. Nevin had turned away from him; by the time she got around to realizing that he was already walking away, he was quite a bit of a distance from her. She giggled. He was certainly very...unafraid, which was something she immediately admired. Obviously first impressions were not always correct, but he seemed confident in who he was, and that, she thought, was the best possible thing in this world. Now, if only she could learn to do the same.

Was he inviting her to come along? She picked up her hooves and began trotting along with him. "Well, I am young, and Momma had requirements for us. This is the first time I've been this far! Maybe I'll spend more time out this way during the night from now on." The young mare was cheery, almost as if she had forgotten her insecurities as she began speaking. The night truly was gorgeous. The moon, although much less bright than the sun, paved a nice path of light. The stars, coming out it would appear, one by one, lit up the sky like fireflies. How many things had she missed, while she slept the night away?

"I guess I'm part unicorn. Yeah. And flutter. My siblings all have wings - I don't!" Still with the cheerful tone, she could feel a bit of her demons making their way out again as each word left her lips. She had been the only one, besides her mother, born without wings. That was another thing that ate away at her happiness. Why, was she not worthy to be given the gift of flight? OR even just...to feel the wind at your back? A frown. Her unicorn blood did not come out within her as much as some of the other blood she carried, and that disappointed her as well. So, so many different things to hate about herself. Had she the ability to heal? She didn't know.

More harshness. More cruelty. This stallion was....trying to push her away? Then why invite her to find shelter? Trucio frowned at him as she finally caught up to him, looking at him face to face. "You ask questions I don't know the answers to. I just was." The mare frowned again, her mind racing for explanations and reasons that were good enough to give the stallion. She could tell him the truth, of course, but what was the truth? That she was out, letting her demons eat at her, and lost track of time? Was that really what had happened?

Maybe she truly had gotten lost and didn't realize it until they found each other.

"Okay," she spoke again, after some moments of silence. The air had gotten chilly rather quickly, and she made an obvious attempt at shaking off the cold. Where did they go from here? She didn't even really quite know how to get back into the plains, nor how to retrace her steps once the sun rose in the morning. Would he leave her, alone and confused, to fend for herself, after just helping to guide her to safety? Well, she supposed, only one way to find out. "Thank you, stallion! I really appreciate the help, it's kind of you."

Nevin always had insecurities about himself. He knew he was odd and he knew he wasn’t the most normal looking stallion out there. He simply accepted what he could about himself. Though there was always a part of him constantly nagging in the back of his head and telling him that is wasn’t ‘normal.’ He wasn’t like everyone else. Everyone, but him felt emotions. Astraea told him once that he had to be careful and keep on going down a good path because he could potentially be a sociopath. He didn’t realize what she meant at first, but after a long time of thinking on it she was probably right. No she was right. He had no emotions about anyone. He didn’t care who lived and who died. He hated it and loved it. He didn’t know if he would ever be able to feel love of any kind like his father did. He didn’t know if something would ever snap him out of this state of mind; his state of being. He could feel himself growing colder every single day.

A small part of him wanted to feel alive.

When he heard her speak, he turned his head slightly so that his eyes fell on her. She didn’t know what else to say and he didn’t know what to really say to her. What could he say? He had issues with his own oddities so how could he look at her and give her honest advice? He looked away keeping his eyes on everything else and thought on how he should word what he was going to tell her. “Your oddities are what make you who you are. At least that is what my father told me. Not everyone is the same and that is what makes you unique.” He told her. It was honest even though he had trouble believing it himself. Maybe this mare also felt the same way about her own ‘unnatural’ parts of her. He would never ask her nor would he care that much to examine her long enough to notice her behavior. He didn’t want to make this personal at all.

“The night is prettier then the day.” He let out a soft sigh. “Flutter? I would never have known that. Then again you can’t always judge someone just by looking at them right?” He spoke softly to her, as he stood there in the shelter feeling uncomfortable almost immediately. He didn’t know what to do or what to say after the conversation seemed to die off. He wasn’t good at things like this. Being personal and friendly with others was something he lacked. He wasn’t a social creature and it definitely shown. Even if she were trying to be cheerful or keep the conversation going, it probably would end up dying quickly anyway.

He heard her thank him and looked at her with his glowing eyes. He stared for a long moment and then stepped away feeling a chill in the air. It was getting colder and this shelter was not going to provide enough warmth for her especially if she was alone. She wasn’t a bulky mare so she would be shivering all night. He didn’t know what to do though. He couldn’t really drag anything into the cave and he certainly wasn’t going to cuddle up beside her either. “It’s getting colder…” He mumbled as if to tell himself that he needed to figure something out for the mare. His father had put it in his head from a very young age that you couldn’t leave someone who obviously needed help. That part of him was the one that wasn’t letting him leave her there like this. It was a pain because he simply wanted to be on his way yet here he was having morality issues.

Without saying a word, the stallion wandered off. He didn’t know what the hell he was doing. He didn’t know where he was even going. All he knew was that he needed to find her something that will keep her warm. He didn’t even know where he was going to get something that would even help with that dilemma. He furrowed his brows under his mask and tried really hard to think of where he could go. He didn’t know if the mare would even be there when he got back. He promised himself that he wouldn’t travel too far. Which was all fine and dandy until he found himself back in the forest searching for something that seemed damn near impossible at the moment.

Time seemed to move slowly for him even though he was sure it had been hours. He was trying not to take too long so that she didn’t freeze to death out there. Then a small beacon of hope lying near a mossy patch of earth. He went over for a closer look noticing that it was a large cloth or blanket. It wasn’t super thick, but it was going to have to do for the moment. He gripped one end of it with his moth and tugged it, pulling it away from the decrepit animal that once used it. He flung it over his shoulder as best he could. It was in pretty good condition except for the leaves and moss that seemed to have found a home tangling in with the fibers of it. He didn’t know if he was lucky with this find or it was just meant to be.

He made his way back feeling the warmth the cloth blanket gave him and knew it would be perfect for her. He walked over to the shelter seeing the strange look she gave him and simply stared at her in an odd way. He knew she probably wasn’t expecting this at all. He moved closer to her tugging the blanket off himself and tossing it on her back. He didn’t say anything and simply made sure it covered as much of her as it could, which luckily it was most of her small frame.

A small act of kindness was something he wasn’t use to. It was something he just didn’t do. It made him feel a slight twinge of humanity and he didn’t want to feel that right now. He didn’t want to feel anything. He pushed it away and backed up a little bit giving her a stare. “Don’t thank me. I didn’t do this out of kindness. I did this because I had to.” He wanted to say something else. Something a little less harsh, but he couldn’t help the words that came out of his mouth. He knew he was taught better then that. He was trying so hard to push everyone away and was always so afraid he would end up feeling something he couldn’t handle. He would try so hard to not feel anything. No matter what it was.

He didn’t move. He didn’t turn to leave and he didn’t look away from the mare. He kept his eyes on the mare as if waiting for her to do or say something to him.

“I’m Nevin.”

Then, he stepped over a line he shouldn’t have crossed. He let her know his name.

A part of her wanted to feel alive as well.

The feeling of being alive was a relative term. Sure, those who were living and breathing and literally walking this earth on a daily basis were alive - but were they really living. Did they, or anyone else who walked this earth, really live the life they were given, or what was expected of them? She knew, from what she could tell, that she lacked the ability to just live. And that bothered her. Trucio loved a lot of things about this world, but there were things she knew she was missing, and things she didn't know she was missing, and it was a gruesome thought.

What about her life did she not have?

The young mare longed for the day where she'd be able to look at her reflection in the water and smile; and be proud of what stared back at her. Perhaps if she did something noteworthy, or felt important, her self-image would be less of a trouble then it was. Yes, that made sense. She supposed she'd never quite think she was beautiful, but if she found beauty in everything else, it would be just enough to keep her happy.

To help her feel alive.

The stallion's next words confused her. Where they comforting, or out of spite? Did he mean to give her happy and pleasant thoughts, or were they just words, just said because they were there? She stared at him, expressionless, before she responded. "Unique is not always a good thing." She finally whispered, the feeling of a blush creeping up onto her cheeks. Oh how she thanked the heavens for the color of her coat - the blush was barely noticeable. That's what she thought - unique was not always a good thing. Unique was the word that you used when you didn't want to be rude, but didn't know what else to say. It was the polite version of weird. She was weird. She was unique, her sister and her both, but that didn't mean that it was supposed to mean. Unique was more, oh I have something interesting to offer, and I'm special. Unique - or the way he had said it, meant weird. She was different. Odd. Weird. It tore into her, every inch of her focus trying to fight those thoughts off. This was not the time and place - not any more. She had spent too much time next to this stallion to let him have any sort of affect on her. No. She'd have to keep her cool.

"Yes I don't seem like a flutter to myself, either. I don't see those pretty traits in me that I see in my sister. We're twins - her and I, and yet, that one small difference makes her so much prettier." The words came out before she had a chance to stop them and she stared, wide eyed, at the stallion next to her. The blush, still on her cheeks, grew brighter and hotter, and she tore her eyes down onto the floor. It was....positively embarrassing, letting him in on all her secrets like this! How could she just let the words come out like vomit, when she didn't even know him!! "Oh, well I'm terribly sorry...forgive me."

Her voice remained barely higher than a whisper, and her eyes remained downward. Trucio was officially ashamed of herself.

Not moving from her position, she instead felt the stallion's absence as he turned to leave her side, going off into the cold night once again. She had really done it this time, hadn't she. Their meeting, although however strange it may have been, had warmed up her spirits just ever so slightly, and now...he was gone. Trucio frowned, kicking the hard ground in disgust and frustration at herself. If she hadn't had so clingy or weird in both looks and behavior, perhaps he'd still be standing there, keeping her some kind of company.

She scared him off, and that was unacceptable. What had she done, in a past life, to deserve something like this? Why was her....being, just that repugnant to everyone she ever met, up to and including this stallion? Trucio sighed, and plopped her tiny frame onto the cold ground, shivering as she did so. It was much, much colder within the absence of the stallion. But, she'd need sleep no matter what, and so she figured she may as well attempt to catch an hour or two before her thoughts consumed any more of her time.

And that failed. Within minutes of closing her eyes, they flung open, haunted by the thought of never returning home. She was a disgrace to her family, and perhaps didn't deserve to be a member of it. Yeah, when the sun rose in the early morning, she'd take off, in any random direction, never to be heard from again. Yes - that seemed doable. She was even more lost than before, so it wouldn't be too hard to just continue wandering. Maybe one day she'd return home if she could manage the strength to find her way but now....now she was, well, not worthy.

Never worthy.

Until the very last thing she ever expected to happen, happened. She heard the sound of hoofsteps, which caused her to look in the direction that they came from - and oh! Was she dreaming? Was she hallucinating? Trucio stared at the stallion, recognizing him as the one who left her side what seemed like forever and a half ago, and he was now...back. And not only back, but he had something with him. She stared at him, gaping, with her mouth open, out of disbelief that he'd actually come back for the likes of her.

The blanket that he carried, he put around her, and it instantly made her body just that much warmer. She'd be able to make it through the night like this comfortable as she could be. Trucio looked at the blanket, and lifted her body up off the floor in order to be more level with the stallion. It was the strangest, and also the nicest thing anyone had ever done. And it blew her mind.

"Had to?" She mumbled through a large grin. "You came back. You didn't owe me anything. I...." Trucio couldn't find the proper words, so she let them fall on her tongue. Wasn't it better to let the moment just be that, a moment?

"Nevin. I'm Trucio Benevolentia, but I prefer just Trucio. Thank you, Nevin, for coming back." She didn't thank him for the blanket, because that was the last thing on her mind. To him, perhaps, he thought about her survival through the night, and thought to get a blanket, but to her....he came back. He....thought about her long enough to come back.

She wasn't alone. If he left her now it wouldn't matter that much anymore. Her heart was full of appreciation for this stallion to bother worrying about what he did from now on. He...came back. For her.

She smiled at him, still unable to form a coherent and worthy enough sentence. "You are kind, Nevin."

Nevin immediately regretted what he did after he heard her appreciation. Her words stung him and he didn’t even know what to say. Was there even anything to say? He could see the small hint of happiness in her eyes and it scared him a little bit. He caused a chain reaction that wasn’t meant to happen, but he had good manners and there was no way he was going to let her freeze to death out here. His conflicting sides were constantly at battle with one another and he didn’t even know if there was a way to fully stop it. This would always be him.

“I am kind?” He questioned both himself and her. He wasn’t sure they were the correct words to use in a situation like this. Then again, everyone had his or her own perception of things. “No, I wouldn’t call myself kind. I was just doing what should be done.” The thought of being labeled kind really out him on edge. He wasn’t kind was he? He was just doing what he thought was right and it seemed to label him something that he didn’t really want. His bother and sister would probably find this whole event amusing if there were there to see this.

He looked at her closely, seeing the grin on her muzzle, which only made his heart thump once. There was something about it that pleased him. Even if he didn’t want to believe that someone could ever make him feel that way, he did. She was happy he came back meaning she didn’t want to be alone or she truly was alone from the beginning. He knew how that felt. Feeling like you didn’t belong or something was wrong with you and not knowing what to do about it. Nothing you do is ever good enough and there is no way to change what or who you are. He could relate to that kind of feeling, but he was only assuming this was what she was going through internally. He didn’t know for sure. “Why are you grinning?” He asked as if it was something so foreign to him. His family rarely smiled or showed any kind of emotion like that. It didn’t necessarily mean they weren’t happy, they just didn’t outwardly show it all that often. This was his problem. He didn’t feel any of it or at least he didn’t think he did. As of right now, he didn’t really know what was going on.

He looked away from her seeing the dark sky and hearing the quiet air around them. He didn’t know what to do. Should he leave or should he just stay? The thought had been crossing his mind quite often and it was to the point where it was beginning to irritate him. He stepped into the small alcove and stood there quiet feeling as if the time was passing by so very slowly. So her name was Trucio. He didn’t want to know her name. It only would make things more difficult and that is something you did when you wanted to be friends with another. He didn’t know if he wanted that from her. He didn’t want anything from her at all. A simple night out was beginning to become a nightmare for him. A nightmare that he couldn’t seem to wake up from and there didn’t seem to be anyone coming to his rescue at all.

Maybe this was the one thing he needed to feel alive again.

Maybe he needed to meet someone to help him open his eyes to the world and tear off that mask he wears.

He felt an uneasiness slowly begin to creep up through his body causing him to look down at the ground. The silence was the only thing soothing him right now. “Trucio…” He paused when he said her name. That was a little too close for comfort for him, but there wasn’t anything he could do right now. He already said it and there was no turning back now. “…It’s dangerous out here at night..so I will stay…for now. I don’t know what sort of protection I could even offer against wolves or bears. So we will see…If something happens..simply run.” He didn’t even know why he thought to say that, but it was better then just keeping it to himself right? He let out a soft sigh feeling like his mind was having a quiet battle inside his head at the moment.

This wasn’t like him at all.

He turned his head to look at her feeling the chill in the air cause his body to tremble only slightly. It was something he didn’t want her to notice. He didn’t want anything else to happen that made him question his sanity at the moment. Though the calming silence swept over them again and it was calming him all over again. He loved it. The sound of the cool breeze sweeping past them and the wildlife all around them, it was calming to his soul.

After a few moments, which felt like forever, he opened his mouth to speak. “My family..I avoid them. That is why I’m alone. I don’t have anyone except myself and I prefer to keep it that way.” He told her as his eyes fell to look at the ground. “Do you need help finding your family or getting back to them?” His job was to help those that needed it. It was like a curse for him since there wasn’t anyone he would really turn down. He didn’t even know where to begin and he was sure the mare didn’t know either. She seemed pretty lost when he first met her. “Tomorrow of course…tonight would be too dangerous as I have stated.” They would end up getting lost if they went looking tonight. It was definitely something he would like.

The thought of her family intrigued him a little bit. Did they also look like her? Were they strange and yet…interesting? He didn’t know how to put it other then he would love to see her alongside her other family members. She didn’t know if they would look similar or be completely different. It couldn’t be as bad as his family. All his siblings looked different for the most part. He had brothers with spikes coming out of theirback, a mouth on another’s leg, some completely crazy and then others fairly mellow like him. He didn’t understand how they were even related, but they were family. Family he didn’t want.

Every time he turned around there was someone else related to him or some other kind of drama.

He wanted to be alone.

He wore loneliness like a piece of clothing. He pushed everyone away whenever he could. It was his affliction and his alone.

“I prefer to be alone. So don’t think we will ever meet again after this.” He narrowed his eyes on her as his harsh words left his mouth. He didn’t want to give her false hope. He was having an internal struggle right now. Every time he thought he would push her away, he always said something that made him feel a little more alive. But that was what he wanted right? He wanted to feel something didn’t he? He continued to feel the internal struggle inside him only causing him to turn away from her and stomped his hoof into the ground under his feet. He could feel himself beginning to lose his cool. He could feel something tearing him apart mentally and emotionally. He had to stiffen up. He had to gain his composure.

He looked over to her with his glowing eyes as he let his emotions die off like they always had done.

“Your oddities interest me.”

He didn’t even know what that meant. It sounded a whole lot better in his head. He was sure she would think too much into it and it was just a strange way of saying he wanted to know more about why she looked the way she did.

“You’re strange and I think that is why I haven’t left yet.”

He didn’t quite understand it himself nor did he want to.

But he could feel himself moving closer to feeling alive.

Her eyes danced about, as they watched him reject her compliment. He seemed to be at a loss for what to do next, as was she, and so she just watched in hopes of the situation turning itself around.

If she had been normal, and didn't lack the ability to see the good within herself, she'd have thought the stallion absolutely barking mad. He was kind, and the fact that he didn't see it made her shake her head in shame. Kindness meant you did what was right, or what you thought was right deep down in your heart. The very, simple fact that you acted on those thoughts and instincts meant you were kind. Had she been anyone else but herself she would have voiced her opinion on the matter, and tell the stallion what she thought of him and his words, but she held her tongue. Trucio doubted even her ability to cheer someone else up at times, and now was not one of those good times.

The young mare opened her mouth to attempt a comment, and closed it back up again, lost in all thought and good intentions. How in the world was she supposed to make Nevin feel better when even she couldn't make herself feel the same? Trucio sighed, hoping the subject may change so that she could at least offer some words of encouragement - or something - without immediately doubting her ability to say them.

And then he saved her, or at least, took her away from her doubts for just a moment when he asked why she was smiling. She cocked her head at him, and a charming little giggle escaped her throat as he stared at her in what could have easily been described as confusion. "I'm grinning because you made me happy. You didn't have to come back - no one was forcing you to, and yet you did. It made me happy." The grin was still apparent on her usually solemn face, and it made her spirits soar higher than she imagined they could. Why was she still grinning was a very good question indeed. Maybe, maybe it was the fact that someone outside her mother and siblings actually cared enough about her to make sure it was okay? She shrugged - either way, whatever it was, it made her happy. And happiness, although a great and wonderful feeling, was still rather foreign.

"Haven't you ever smiled because something someone need made you happy?" It was a simple question, but it had the potential of turning into a disaster if either of them went down the wrong path. This was not meant to be any more than a passing meeting - a friendly stranger in the night - and she hadn't meant to ask him anything that might scare him off. Who knew, really, what either of them were thinking, but right now, she needed to know that at least he'd be here till the morning; a warm body against the cold air.

When he spoke next, it was as if her silent prayers had been answered, and the awkward silence that she thought lingered between the two of them was suddenly put to rest. He said he'd stay even longer - at least, for now. Whatever 'for now' meant didn't quite matter to her, because he wasn't going to leave. She'd have someone there, to help her get over her demons for the night, and perhaps...a new traveling companion as she'd eventually make her way back to her mother. Ah! But now was not the time to bring that up. The young mare laughed softly at Nevin, watching him tear his gaze from her and their surroundings, to the ground. He looked uncomfortable, but his words wove a different story. Could it be that he wanted to be her friend, or something of the sort, but was unwilling to admit it? The thought didn't last long in her mind, and instead the mare focused on answering his kind offer. "I've no doubt you have more experience than I do in regards to fighting - I cannot fight! So I shall do whatever it is you want me to do if something bad were to attack us!" It was off-handed and stated rather simply, but she paid him a compliment nonetheless.

Gah, the two of them were quite awkward, weren't they? She frowned inside, keeping her exterior as pleasant as could be as to throw him off to what was really going instead her mind. How could she be so flaky, and so simple with her responses, when he was really, really trying to make a connection!? Ugh! Try harder, she told herself, disappointed in her lack of enthusiasm.

"I don't really talk to my father, I was mainly raised by my mother." A pause, as her eyes scanned the trees outside their little shelter. "I'm not quite sure in which direction she's at right now though...." It amused her, ever so slightly, that although he claimed he was only doing what was right, that he continued to want to try and help her. It was not his duty, his job or his business as to what happened to her, and so why should he care? She didn't ask him to help, he just sprang it on her - not that she minded the assistance, but still....he claimed one thing and did the other. He was being kind, whether or not he realized it or wanted to admit it, he was mot definitely being kind to her. It was not his responsibility to make sure that she was safe - they weren't even anything more than strangers still at this point! "So yes, I suppose I do need some help. If you have things to do, though, I'm sure I could manage on my own!" Trucio nodded her head at him, willingly allowing him an out if he needed one. There was no dept to be paid here at all, so he needn't stay if he didn't want to.

How or why he wanted to, if he did, was beyond her.

But then, the next words he spoke cut into her like a dagger that she wasn't at all expecting. Or perhaps to better put it, she knew it very possible but thought that because he was being so nice, it wasn't going to happen. She blinked, a gaping surprised look plastered onto her face as she attempted to process what Nevin just told her. She was right all along, and she couldn't have let her guard down. He didn't want to be her friend, or her guide or her companion or anything of that sort. He didn't want to be around her, not really.

It was her, she was the problem. He didn't want to be around her. She frowned, her demons coming almost in full force with every passing second. He hated her, and they barely knew each other - didn't he? Oh! It was the way she looked, wasn't it? No one wanted to be companions with a body-legged, reptile-tailed creep like she. It was only a matter of time before he took back everything he had said about staying with her throughout the night and instead telling her how creepy and disgusting she looked. Bracing herself for the worst, she closed her eyes and sighed.

The horror, oh the horror!

Like a switch, Nevin was back to saying something on the nicer side, and it caused Trucio to stop her thoughts midway, and stare at him even more dumbfounded then before. How could he say all the things he said and not realize that it made her think things over fifteen times? Had he always been this way? Was this the reason he claimed he liked being alone so often? Like a truly crazy-minded soul, she began to laugh, harder and louder than anything else in the night sky and so it carried some distance.

"I am strange. Yes." She had meant it as a disgrace to herself, as sort of a back-handed compliment but instead it came off as a lighthearted tease. "Normally things that are strange are the things that make people leave. Maybe you're just as strange as I." Where the sudden playfulness was coming from was a mystery, but she enjoyed it for everything that it was worth.

Nevin could only imagine what she felt like right now. He didn’t know what it was like to feel happy. He knew when others felt happy, but he didn’t feel that. He didn’t know what it meant to even be happy. Though he had to admit she was making him think about things he never in a million years would think of. She made him really delve deep into his past and try to figure things out. Why did he not feel anything? Why didn’t he ever smile? Why was he the way he was? He couldn’t answer any of his own questions, but it was definitely something he wasn’t going to forget. Maybe one day he would actually have the answers to them.

He didn’t really know if he had ever smiled about anything. Her words made me think about everything that happened in his life. Even when he was younger, he couldn’t remember smiling at all. He didn’t even fully remember feeling happy either. “A smile? No never.” He said to her because it was the truth. When did he even smile? What was the point of smiling? He didn’t even know if he would ever want kids because they could get his affliction. They would be cursed with not feeling a damn thing. He wouldn’t want them to suffer like that. He let out a soft sigh at the thought before being caught off guard by her other statement.

He looked over to her a little bewildered and wondered if he said something that upset her. He probably did since everything that came out of his mouth was just rude comments. “If something attacks us…it’s better that you run and I stand here to fight. Mares…they shouldn’t fight. They should always have someone there stronger to protect them and keep them out of harms way.” He said in a truthful tone of voice. His family’s teachings were still mentally carved into his head. The stallions were the fighters and the mare’s…they simply were to be protected. Occasionally there were mares that fought, but it was rare. He didn’t know of any that fought other then his cousin Chosovi, but she was a wildfire anyway. It was bound to happen.

“So run. No need in us both dying.” He said in a dry voice. It was obvious that he didn’t have an issue with dying or using himself as a shield so that she could survive.

Then she began talking about family, which was something that enraged him and made him completely shut down. He didn’t like talking about them unless it was his immediate family. The rest could all go to hell for all he cared. He avoided them all like the plague. “I was raised by my mother and father…my father wanted me to accept his lovemate as a second father…” He didn’t say anything on the matter. He accepted him to a certain extent, but beyond that he really couldn’t. He just didn’t want to be involved in all their drama or affairs. “My family is very large and I avoid them all. That is why I keep my distance from the forest. They reside there and I don’t want to be near any of them.” He said with his tone getting more and more angered with every single word. He was alone to a certain extent, but he liked that kind of life. He looked away from her wondering if he should still help her. She clearly needed a guide and he couldn’t deny her. “We will find them. I will stay with you until we do.” It was more like his job and he wasn’t about to just leave her here like this.

He didn’t know he hurt her. Usually he could tell, but he was so wrapped up in his own head that he wasn’t thinking. He wasn’t paying attention to things he should be paying attention to. His father always told him to focus on others more then his own problems. So snapping out of that reality, he looked over to her again and he noticed small things that made it obvious he hurt her with his words or confused her.

“I don’t live in a normal world.” He paused keeping his eyes locked onto hers. It was obvious he was speaking the truth. “I am strange..I have always been strange. My family is strange in their own way. My world isn’t normal and if it was I think it would be boring. I have no reason to run from you. Your not strange in my eyes and even if you were, why should I judge you? Why wouldn’t I judge you when you haven’t judged me? I have family that have spikes growing out of their back, a brother that is completely crazy, and I even have half-wolves in my family line. What makes you think I would leave just because of your appearance? There is no such thing as normal.” He said to her with his eyes narrowing under his mask only slightly.

“It was a stupid assumption.” He said as he slowly let his body calm down. He didn’t want to be angry right now and certainly didn’t want to frighten her away especially after everything he was telling her about his family. It was personal information. Something he didn’t give out very often.

“I’m sorry.” He didn’t feel sorry even though he said those words. Then again he wouldn’t even know how to feel that way. He never did before. “I don’t like talking about my family.” It was obvious he had family issues and letting her know this only meant she could easily use it against him if she needed to.

“You have two choices…get some rest now so we can start the search in the morning or we leave in a few moments? The choice is yours and I have no problem with either.” It wasn’t that he wanted to get rid of her. He felt like he was making her uncomfortable or at least making the situation that way. They were awkward around each other. He could see that and they didn’t really talk about a lot of things in depth. This was the most they spoke the entire time and probably the most in depth he ever had gotten with anyone. Even though it was about family, it still was a good start for him.

“So, Trucio, what will it be?”

Her named rolled off his tongue so smoothly and his glowing blue eyes looked back at her for a moment.

He hoped she would never want to see him without his mask on. That was a part of him, he never wanted anyone to see including his family.

But the real question was...

Would he keep to his word and stay there with her?

Happiness was a delicate term, especially for someone of her nature, for it could easily be taken away as quickly as it was given out. What happiness meant, exactly, was another thing debated depending on who or what, and there was no true measure of what it could possibly mean. The mare measured her own happiness based on how she felt at that very moment - how the situation made her feel - whether it was uncomfortable or pleasant, and whether or not she could deal with what was happening. She was not, by nature, an unhappy mare, but she had unwelcome tendencies. So that played a role in hindering her happiness. At that exact moment in time, Nevin made her happy and so she behaved accordingly. He made her smile - a rare treat - and she had to adjust her approach to him so that it fit the now current air between them.

Gone was the awkwardness she felt, and in it's place stood confidence...? Contentment? Whatever it was she knew not, but it made her happy nonetheless.

And with this sudden happiness came once again a feeling of bravery, and so she did something quite unlike her usual solemn self and scrunched her face as if ready to tell a joke, "well then...turn that frown upside down! A smile is the most beautiful thing that this land has to offer us, as creatures who live in it. Don't you know it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile?" Speak for myself, she silently thought, watching herself play as an almost out-of-body experience. This was, simply put, not the Trucio Benevolentia she had grown to know and accept as who she was, and she rather enjoyed it. Sure it was who she was when no one was around...but in front of someone, nevertheless a stranger?! It was unique, but certainly not unwelcome.

She smiled, then, as if to show an example of how powerful one could truly be.

His almost deadpan expression and choice of words that followed basically floored her. He was willing to give up his life to save her, simply based on the fat that he was a male, and she a female? How.....gallant? of him! Trucio gave no sign or facial expression in regards to a reaction to what he was saying, and instead just slowly shook her head. "Let's just hope it doesn't have to come to that. I'm quite enjoying myself the way I am, right here."

Having literally zero experience in death and the workings of it, the young mare hadn't a clue as to the magnitude of such a statement that Nevin was making. He was willing to give up his life for a total stranger, based simply because of the moral standards and codes that he held for himself. It was...truly an act of selflessness (whether nor not he realized or wanted to admit it). Death was final, and although she understood that, she never witnessed it first hand, and so she played off his suggestion and nothing more than that - a suggestion. Perhaps built on friendly banter?

"My mother has said my family is large as well - but I haven't met any of them yet. I hope to, one day....just to see what they're like. It's nice not feeling like an outsider," she gulped her words down, the awkwardness that exuded from Nevin's body was extremely evident, and it was obvious he wanted to dismiss the subject all together. She started to feel as though it was her fault that the conversation jumped around and became awkward and weird one moment, and pleasant the next. She was absolutely and utterly terrible at holding down anything that truly mattered as far as a conversation was concerned. She had, in other words - nothing of use to say. Didn't she? Trucio was still very young, and the world was still out there for her to explore, but Nevin wanted nothing to do with what she had to offer in this conversation.

Or so she assumed. As he shut down, so did the happy thoughts that filled her mind only moments ago. Eventually it was clear - he'd leave her to go on to bigger and better things, and she'd be left alone and confused once again. Friendships, she knew, were not her forte, and creating and maintaining one with Nevin would be damn near impossible. Nothing she said came out right, and nothing she said had merit.

The two of them doubted themselves around the other, and yet, kept a friendly air between them. It was a strange set-up, but it worked. He stayed; she had company. In a perfect world, could it always be like this? Maybe not with him - no that would be insane! - but could this be what acceptance felt like?

"My mother says that normal is what you make of it - I just don't feel normal. I feel weird. I feel unusual. I see other Soquili around me, and sometimes it feels like I'm not doing something right. I won't ever judge you, Nevin, because I don't have anything to judge you on." Trucio managed a smile, tiptoeing around her words like a ballerina. She'd have to be honest and truthful, right? That's how she'd get him to see past her crazy, and her self-doubt in order to see the real her. She'd...open up, as best she could, and hope he'd look.

Yet, how could she be honest and truthful to him when she wasn't to herself?

"No need to be sorry, you were just voicing your opinion." She mumbled softly, taking in all the words he spoke with careful precision. Again, she didn't want to sound crazy, or clingy or anything else that made rub him the wrong way and cause him to flee. She wanted a friend; she wanted an opportunity to feel worthy. As Nevin gave her the options on the next time of their night, Trucio listened to his words, thinking of the upside and downside to both situations. If they left now, they'd get a head-start and she'd be back within the confines of her family within no time. She'd be happy again - comfortable and without confusion. However, if they left in the morning, they'd both be refreshed after a night's sleep.

Either way, she'd have to adjust to him being by her side for as long as he would be. This was, after all, already turning into the longest she spent with anyone that wasn't her immediate family. Once they traveled together, either they'd have to walk in silence, or Trucio would need to think up new material - because the stuff she was offering up now was not worthy of any further in-depth thought.

Man, she wasn't good at this conversation stuff.

"Let's rest - but only if you agree to rest with me. Don't play lookout! I'd like it if you slept too - I don't want a tired guide, come morning!"

She seemed to care about his tiredness. She wanted him to rest. It was something he wasn’t expecting from anyone including her. He found a spot that he felt would be comfortable and lowered himself onto the ground. It felt nice to finally relax, but a part of him hoped nothing bad happened during this time. He didn’t want a fitful sleep and didn’t want her worrying anymore about him then she already was. He looked over examining her one more time feeling a strange connection to this mare that he couldn’t really explain. It wasn’t like what he felt with his family. He knew what that felt like and he certainly knew it wasn’t hate. He couldn’t explain it and the more he thought about it, the more frustrated he got. Instead, he looked away from her finding something else to look at even for a moment.

“You should rest beside me in case it gets colder.” He wasn’t trying to make a move on her, he was being logical about the situation. If she got sick, then he would have to tend to her until she was better. Even though she wasn’t his responsibility, he couldn’t just leave her to fend for herself. She wouldn’t stand a chance in a weakened state. “Come morning, we will travel and I will guide you to wherever you need to go. After that, we will part ways.” The way he said it sounded so final that it even rattled his emotions a little bit. This was the first individual he actually spent a substantial amount of time with. It was going to be strange adjusting to a loner lifestyle again. She already left an impression on him.

His father had that happen with Enitan. He was soulless until he met him and then he brought light into his world. The same thing happened to his sister Astraea and his niece Chosovi. It was strange seeing his siblings get together with others. His brother Cai was one of the only ones that didn’t seem to have anyone along with him. He didn’t mind it though. It was nice to enjoy some peace and quiet sometimes, but he felt like something was changing. Was it the same thing his father went through? He didn’t know nor was he going to really think about it any longer then he already had.

“If you need me for whatever reason in the middle of the night. Let me know. It’s what I’m here for.” He said in a soft tone. He wasn’t a warrior or anything remotely close to it, but he could fight anything off if he needed to. He also was a good listener to those he gave the time to, which she was lucky enough to be one of the few.

“Maybe if we ever meet up again you could meet some of my family..the ones I actually care for anyway.” He didn’t even know what he was saying anymore. Now he was making future promises with this mare that he didn’t even know if he would see again. He didn’t need any more reason for her to go searching for him. He didn’t want that or did he? “Nevermind..just get to sleep.” He snorted closing his eyes trying to stop his mind from thinking.

A small tiny part of him didn’t want to say goodbye.

Trucio watched as he found a comfortable spot, admiring how simple things seemed to be at that very moment. They were no longer two complete strangers, out for a stroll - they were....companions? Friends? The word couldn't quite be placed, but for one, she knew that they'd never not be just someone. He had, after all, offered to take her back home the following day - isn't that enough to say they were bound together for one more day? She smiled, nodding her head as he invited her to stay next to him, thinking that although a little odd, it was the fitting thing to do. He could protect her - if she needed the protecting - and it would be the first time she spent any outstanding amount of time close to anyone but her twin and her momma. So she made her way over to him, plopped down, and enjoyed the semi-heat that his body was radiating. "Thank you for this hospitality," was all she could manage to squeak out, as he rambled on about something or another.

His words contradicted themselves, but she did not question him. It appeared as though his thoughts went deeper than his words, and as she laid there next to him, staring at him, she couldn't help but wonder just how far they went. What a strange occurrence, this meeting was. They could have been more different, and yet - they were the same, were they not? The mare let a tiny smile creep up on her face, for this was the longest anyone had spent talking to her, and it didn't seem to bother him. Yes - they were the same, in what way was still a mystery, but she couldn't begin to think about going back to 'normal' life once he was free of her. The words stung as he spoke them, but did he really mean them? Trucio dared not ask.

After tonight, they'd be traveling to her destination, and then part ways, for what could be forever. After that, she'd find her momma and her siblings, and live out her life the way it had always been before coming across Nevin. Is that what she wanted? Could she stop this? Thoughts began to swirl in her head as she lowered it to the ground, ready for her dreams to take her.

In her dreams, anything was possible.
