Jack had the rare pleasure of actually looking forward to a blind date. Not for any romantic reasons or even the possibility of sex, but because Finn had actually managed to find him a connection to WonderPark. The event was still shrouded in mystery to Jack, but it had been a niggling thought at the back of his head ever since the New Years alternate timeline—albeit one he had put on the backburner after a while. Now his interest had flared back up again, a little like a child about to be presented with an awesome birthday gift.

Finn had warned him that Lydia was...not all there, but he could accept that if it meant getting more information.

Having had a little too much time spent off island last month thanks to these dates, Jack for once felt like staying in so to speak. Fifteen minutes before the official time Finn had set for them, he had arrived at the destination: the cliffs. It was cooler there, and the skies weren't a stormy gray like the week before. He could actually feel like it was Fall up there, especially with the breeze going.

Dutifully he got to work, rolling out a large plaid blanket over the grass and anchoring it with plates, food, and even a basket to complete the quaint image. It was around lunch time, so he went with different sandwiches, crackers, cheese, a few candy bars from the vending machines that he had no real interest in, water bottles, and a pumpkin pie for dessert. Napkins were stashed in the basket for now to avoid flying away. He sat cross legged after the fact, idly checking his phone and playing Angry Birds as he waited, glad that he had the sense to tie his hair back.

Lydia had never been on a blind date before, and the prospect of being on one now was both incredibly exciting and astonishingly nerve wracking, though she had been assured that it was a date of a more platonic sort and not one that would likely lead to anything more. A way to get out there and meet people, rather than sneak around spying and taking notes, though being face to face and asking questions was decidedly easier (though not nearly as fun).

But even knowing that it was not meant to be anything serious, she still spent much of her time deciding on how to dress, especially considering she had been blessed with advice from Cee that she had been dying to test in a more private setting than just traipsing around Deus hoping to be noticed.

Lydia was fortunate enough to own sweaters that were actually long enough that they could easily pass for dresses, so she threw on a long sleeved, grey number, using a tan leather belt to cinch it in high on her waist beneath her chest, before adding thigh high black stockings and a pair boots that matched the color of her belt. Her light blue and white hair was given less attention, twisted into a messy bun, with strands of hair that fell loose around her bangs but in a way that looked much more purposeful and less like she had slept in it that way and just hadn't bothered fixing it up.

With just the lightest touches of make up added, all in all she felt like she was really getting the hang of this "pretty" thing, even if she still refused to believe that men would find her attractive in any way what so ever. Checking the time, it was with much chagrin that she realized that in her efforts, she had made herself late for the appointed date time, so she rushed out of the dorms, flailing and chewing on her bottom lip as she made her way quickly to the cliffs overlooking the beach.

She was panting by the time she made it there, her hair now actually more of the typical mess that she styled it in, her armpits sweating and staining her sweater-dress in small patches, but a bright smile was on her face as she tripped along the ground towards where a man was sitting near quite a quaint little spread of a picnic.

"H-Hi!" She was still breathing a bit heavily. "I'm. Lydia." She took in a deep breath, and then let it whoosh out in a laugh. "Oh gosh wow I'm so sorry I'm late!" She reached up to wipe sweat off of her brow on the sleeve of her shirt.

As he heard the crunch of grass and dirt, Jack looked up, broke into a smile, and put his phone up. "Yo! Finn didn't tell me he found a pretty lady willing to put up with me," he greeted, giving a low whistle as he took in Lydia's outfit. "Normally he scares them off with his awful attitude."

He got to his feet and offered his hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Lydia. I'm Jack."

(It wasn't hard to be this nice. He could remember the grinning swagger he used to have as a teen, the techniques in his drama classes, and feel comfortable in his ability to be different versions.)

"Sorry it's a little out of the way up here," Jack said, motioning for her to take a seat as he did. "I like privacy, and the view up here is gorgeous. Hopefully it's made you work up an appetite." He peeled a paper plate off the pile and extended it to her. "Feel free to dig in first. We've got at least an hour before I'm due back in the infirmary."

It was really a shame. So much time had been spent trying to make herself look presentable, that she than had to rush just to get to the meeting place, and late to boot! Now she was an absolute hot mess with hair in disarray, pit stains, and make up that smudged onto her sleeve as she wiped at her brow. Really, all of her efforts had been for naught, but if Lydia noticed or even minded, it did not at all show on the bright and cheerful smile that she gave to the absolute gentlemen that she was about to share a wonderful looking picnic lunch with!

The compliment earned him a tittering giggle snort, hid behind one hand as another raised to shake the one offered from Jack. "Oh, he wasn't so bad! A charming young man, really. Perhaps not quite given enough hugs from his mother as a child, but that's hardly something to hold against him." She was grinning again, hand dropping as her eyes flickered to the spread of food laid out on a blanket on the ground.

Finding a place to sit, she didn't even wait for a plate before she was plucking up crackers and cheese and hastily shoving them into her mouth.

"Mrm, yesh, sho ungry." She admitted, as crumbs toppled from her lips and onto the blanket. Chewing the contents of her mouth, she thankfully swallowed before continuing.

"Thank you. It is quite wonderful up here." She wasn't looking at the scenery though, wide eyes and almost too-bright smile directed fully at Jack, her head craning back so that she could look up at him.

"Oh!" She suddenly startled, her mouth dropping open into an 'o' of surprise, and her eyes widening further if at all possible. "I have seen you before! We bumped heads, once." She began to laugh with another few snorts punctuating each peal.

Not enough hugs. Now that was just funny.

As Lydia all but dove into the food, he picked up a ham and cheese sandwich (because even that he couldn't possibly ******** up) and began to tear the crust off methodically. At least she was enjoying herself, which was what mattered, though it seemed he didn't have to put forth that much effort to get her talking. Lydia was...spacey, but that was hardly a challenge; Lina had been particularly odd to get along with at times.

"I'm afraid you'll have to remind me," Jack said with what could pass as a self-conscious smile. "I think I'd remember--"

He stopped suddenly as Owain interrupted, blinked, and then puffed a sigh. "My partner filled me in. Meteor shower, right? God, it feels like an age since then." Where the most irritating thing in his life had been what to do with people who kept being friendly to him fr no discernible reason. "Been adjusting alright to Deus?"

Her giggles had finally tapered off, the snorts going with them, and she had begun to dig into the cheese and crackers again with a gusto. "Mm, oh~!" She held up the back of her hand to her mouth as she swallowed down her food. "Yes, that! I was uh...walking around, looking up at the sky I think, and I tripped and fell into you!" But it seemed that he didn't remember, and that was okay, because Lydia did not feel like she was a very memorable sort, so she couldn't blame him in the slightest. Instead, she just continued to smile in that way that was just a little overly bright and cheerful, and picked away at yet more of the food.

"It's okay. Not nearly as exciting as I thought it would be when I had woken up! I mean, sure there was that whole thing in the desert with the parasites, and then the zombies." She made a vague hand waving gesture with her hand before shaking her head. "But that was nothing compared to what I'd already seen before I got here."

She glanced around for something to drink and spotted a water bottle. Snatching it up, she unscrewed the lid and took a long drink, letting out a gasp of air to show just how refreshing it was when she was finished.

"But thank you for asking! Jeeze, here I am just stuffing my face, nattering on about myself!" She let out a bark of laughter, and then placed a chin in her hand, an elbow on one raised knee. "What about you? How long have you been here?"

"Such is the Deus day-to-day," Jack commented with a slight smile. "From what I understand, we've been long overdue for a zombie apocalypse anyway, even if the infected aren't exactly the walking dead." The sandwich was peeled of its crust, methodically split down the middle. He tried not to think of the ham; maybe it would be easier to swallow if he forgot it existed. "As for me, well, I've been here over a year. Nothing much to report beyond the usual wear and tear and occasional bouts of alcoholism, I'm afraid."

Noting Lydia's thirst, he grabbed a second water bottle and placed it by her; God knew he was going to be drilling her about her adventures. "Finn mentioned something like that. WonderPark, I think? My research tends to gravitate towards the nature of our Halloween neighbors, and so...I was hoping I could ask you to share your experiences?" Jack asked, his eyes lighting up.

Lydia allowed him a chance to speak, to make a little bit of idle chatter at her while she gazed at him, eyes roaming over his face, taking in the contours and features, the hair, his eyes, his mouth as he spoke. Her eyes continued to go down, slowly following the line of his neck, the broadness of his shoulders. He was speaking to her, and she was, quite obviously and unabashedly, checking him out from the top of his head to the toes of his shoes, though it was for different reasons than he might have thought. Certainly she found him attractive (she found all manner of men, women, and creatures attractive in some way or another, though in a romantic sense? Generally only men fell under that category, and for all of her goofy, often times smitten behavior, there were only actually a very few she had ever felt something for beyond a simple and totally understandable lustful desire), but she was not particularily interested.

Not unless he gave her a reason to be, of course.

"Goodness me, alcoholism? But why? You seem like a well put together and sensible young man." She raised her face from her hand, and gave her head a small shake, curls bouncing around her shoulders before she reached forward and plucked up a sandwich for herself and gracing him with a wide grin.

"Ah, so he did tell you about that." She wasn't surprised. The man with the eye patch had seemed quite interested in that particular part of her history, and she'd had an inkling that perhaps this man would be the same. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. "Well, of course I can tell you whatever you need to know! Though I must admit, there is likely a lot of information regarding the circumstances that I, as a mere visitor of the park, was not privy to." She took a large bite of her sandwich, shoving most of it into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out as she began to nom it down greedily.
