There were too many things in Persephone's head.
There was a whole nother life there, a future that she wasn't sure was even possible. She could still feel wings on her back, stretching out, black as night - could almost reach for her crystal, but it was gone, because she was not Princess Persephone. (She suspected, in a sane future, she never would be; if cosmic nonphysical entities could get drunk, Metallia had been drunk when selecting her to grant that level of power too.)
She tried not to think about the end of it - Lellouch's hand reaching into her and extracting her very core, her soul, while Leto watched.
But that was the...well, the good part. Leto. Persephone had been navigating a crush on the Princess of Camouflage for a long time, and it seemed that in that future-not-future it ha dworked out. They had been engaged. If there was anyone Persephone needed to talk to tonight, it was Leto.
She was a little scared - what if Leto didn't remember what she did? What if she was wrong? What if it as all in her head, somehow? But she had to know. And she...had to know if there was a chance, for that part of it at least, to be real. So she'd sent Quinn a text, asking her to meet in the park, powered up.
She was waiting on a bench, fingers twisting nervously in her skirt, as she reached out with her senses for Dark Mirror auras.

Quinn was sitting in her living room, staring at nothingness in the dark and drenched in an awful cold sweat. Her head felt like it was so full but in the end, she only felt two things. The first, a phantom pain in her leg. Her right hand was clinging to her knee so hard that her knuckles were practically white just to ensure that her leg was, in fact, still in tact. The second, a horrible, crushing pain in her chest because all she could see over and over again was Lellouch ripping out Persephone's starseed and ending her life literally forever. Was that what they had to look forward to in the future? The brunette jumped when her cellphone vibrated on the coffee table. A few seconds passed before she finally reached out, her hand trembling, and grabbed the phone. A heavy breath was slowly exhaled before she swiped her thumb across the screen to bring her phone to life. When she saw the message from Clarisse she felt her heart begin to race and her free hand instantly moved to her henshin pen. Before she knew it, she was calling out to her asteroid and Leto sat in Quinn's place. The Eternal Senshi sprung to her feet and without hesitation pushed through the surface of the mirror hanging on her wall. When she came out on the other side in the park, she was moving quickly and nearly tripped over her ribbons and overlays. Fresh air hitting her lungs brought new life to Leto as she ran in the direction of the power signature she felt of an Eternal Negaverse Senshi. As soon as she caught sight of dark green flowing hair, hot tears started streaming down her cheeks. She took a few steps and had to stop for a moment to stare at the other girl, even if it was just the back of her head, to really let it sink in that she was real and she was alive. She just sort of... Stood there and watched her and cried uncontrollably. Her mouth opened to say something to Persephone, but the words never came. Instead, she closed the distance between them, stepped in front of her, cupped Persephone's face in her hands and bent to kiss her.

As soon as a Dark Mirror aura of the right level crossed her senses, Persephone stood up, and so she was on her feet when she locked eyes with Leto. Seeing the other girl crying brought tears to her eyes, too, and so when Leto kissed her it was probably a little wetter than either of them would have liked.
She slid her arm around Leto's shoulders, rolling onto her toes to hold the kiss. Part of her couldn't believe this was really happening, and yet it felt so natural, so right - five years' worth of remembered adoration was a powerful thing.
Finally she had to pull back, so that she could breathe, but she was smiling even though she was still sort of crying a little.
"You're alive, you're okay - you remember?" It turned into a question because, well, maybe she was just lucky, but maybe Leto had seen it all too (and she wasn't sure if she wanted that to be true or not because there was good, but there was also bad, there was Leto having lost her leg and everything Lellouch had done to her...)

When Persephone pulled back, Leto kept her hands on her face lightly, worried that if she let go that she would just disappear from in front of her. That none of this would be real. She sniffled, "I... I saw things. You. You died Persephone. I promised to protect you and she killed you right in front of me. And," her voice cracked. She moved her hands from her face in order to wrap her arms around Persephone in a tight embrace before she finally let her go. Leto wasn't the type to be clingy or particularly affectionate, but after what she was sure she had seen it was hard not to be. She very very desperately felt as if she needed Persephone. That she couldn't let her go. But if Persephone had seen what she had, part of her wondered if she would ever want to be with someone like that. If that was the person that Leto was destined to become, maybe the Senshi that stood before her would want to run as far away from her as she could possibly get. The idea of that made Leto's heart ache. Her brows furrowed slightly and she looked at Persephone with a strange sort of sadness in her dark red eyes. "I become a terrible person," she said in a hushed voice. "I'm so sorry. You loved me so much and I let MirrorSpace and my own inner demons consume me. What if that's who I am?" She held her hand over her own chest, where her starseed would lay. "What if it's ingrained in me? In my soul?" Never had Leto ever considered that there could have been some sort of deep, dark change in her when Ares threw her through her mirror. Maybe it had doomed her to a life of darkness and destruction no matter what she did. "I'm sorry," she repeated.

Persephone kept her hands on Leto's shoulders, her desire for contact outweighing any reservations she might have had - particularly when the Dark Mirror seemed so happy to hold onto her, as well. "I sort of failed in that promise, too," she said, her voice soft. She really had, to let Leto be tortured like that and not stop it, even in the end. God knew what Lellouch had done to Leto after she'd killed Persephone.
Persephone had a lot to make up for - for being complicit in everything terrible the Negaverse had done, for being a loyal, slightly mad dog of Metallia. For never even considering resiting from within. She had played along until the very end, and it had taken the life of the person she loved being directly threatened to get her to.
"And I watched the Negaverse turn on the people it swears it protects and did nothing. I..." She swallowed. "I let that happen to you. If I hadn't rolled over, maybe..." But what power could she have had, really? "I don't...none of it has happened yet. And I don't think it has to happen. I don't want it to happen." Judging Leto on what her future self had done would be cruel. Neither of them was there, yet.
"Maybe that's why we saw it, so we could...so we could stop it, somehow." She knew she sohuld have been happier, prouder. The Negaverse had won. But the cost...the cost was just too high.
