Papa had left them alone to go on a date with Suluksati... that was what Keke understood after Samael's slightly awkward explanation before he left them with a caretaker.
Also, something about a crypt and danger and undead – all things that interested him, and all things that he was, apparently, not allowed to share.
That was fine, though – there were other adventures to explore, other things to do, and he now had his sister all to himself. Ancient dangers were interesting, but spending time with Vazarri was more important than anything.
She'd been agitated lately – more so than usual – and he hoped it wasn't because he had learned to fly first. She'd get there eventually, he knew: he was just faster growing. Bigger, too, than her, though they shared an elegant-boned build that Samael did not have. Keke would have wondered if it was from Oblivion that they gained their bodies, but he had forgotten his other father, aside from vague memories of someone large and feathered.
“We have the whole day to ourselves, Zarri!” he said cheerfully: the adult guarding them would be easy enough to skirt for an adventure, “What do you want to do?”

Vazarri's tail flicked, the feathered tip brushing along her claws. She watched it silently, her gaze distant, as if she wasn't the one in control off her own appendages. Was it something she said, something she'd done that drove them away? That drove them both away? Her thoughts flickered to times past, and she gave a tiny shake of her head. No, Daddy was only gone because Pappy chased him off and refused to allow him to return. Any ill feeling she had were completely Pappy's fault. He'd even left them as soon as the White Woman showed her ugly maw... Did he not care for them at all...? Keke's words were like a dull echo in the back of her mind. After a pause, crimson orbs drifted up to eye her brother. He was so chipper, so sweet. Did he remember nothing? Everything he said always sounded so excited and eager, like he had not a problem in the world. They were alone. Didn't he understand? She rose slowly to all fours and moved to stand before the larger male. With a sigh, she butted her nose affectionately, dejectedly against his. "Pappy will be so upset if he returns to find us off on our own..." Zarri murmured, her maw lowering to rest against his shoulder. Her lids slipped shut and she sighed. Pappy deserved it, though. He deserved to be upset. That's what he'd done to them, by leaving them here when they needed him. It was clear that he favored the White Witch's company more than theirs. He may as well just have given them up. "Let's go somewhere," she quipped suddenly, her tail giving a traitorous lash. "Let's go somewhere far away. Somewhere the sun can't touch. Let's leave these lands." Keke was big and strong and could keep her from all harm. he was the best brother any young lady could hope to have, and with him by her side, they could surely go anywhere. Anywhere the adventure wanted to take them.

Poor Vazarri... Keke nuzzled her back and wished he could understand what was bothering her. He wanted nothing more than to share some of his endless delight and wonder with her, his beloved sister. “Pappy will be fine.” he reassured her, curling his tail around her. Papa could take care of himself – he always had, and always would. That was why Keke was so oblivious to the true nature of his sister's problems: he simply didn't care what Samael did. Things had gotten too complicated, long ago, and if Samael wanted to court the white feathered female, Keke wasn't going to stop him. The Aedaun had been around long enough that it was not a problem for him at all. He had moved on, and his sister was his focus. It was unthinkable to believe that his sister had not done the same. Her tail whapped against his, but it was her statement that surprised him. “Go somewhere, 'Zarri?” Normally, he was the adventurous one. He listened as she described, initially thinking (with delight) that she meant a cave. But soon, it became clear that that was not the case. What he wondered, growing more concerned by the word Does she mean by 'leave these lands'”Where do you want to go, Zarri?” he asked, equal parts curiosity and worry...

She rose to all fours and strolled to the lip of her cave, tail held high with her new found determination. "I don't know," Zarri admitted as she looked out. From her position, she could see a few of the clans mothers in the crags higher up along the mountainside. From their perches, they watched the younger orakoi play and scramble along the rocks below. One of them even turned to Vazarri and gave a dip of her head in acknowledgement of the young Diabi. Zarri grimaced. "Wherever we go, we have to get out of here first," she grumbled, whirling back around to face Keke. When she thought about it, and she had thought about it, the two of them could form a deliciously sneaky team. Zarri could bend shadows to conceal them and Keke could shift about the earth to further hide their movements. It didn't mean they could act rashly, it just gave them a bit of leeway. She wasn't so foolish to believe that her brother wouldn't agree to the demands, no matter how wayward they were. Putting on her brightest, most adorable face, she bounced over to him, nudging her nose against his maw and purring softly. "Keke, what do you say? Let's go see what things are hiding out there!"

Fluffesu Feel free to play him during their GREAT ESCAPE It was still worrying, but it was her. How could he refuse? If this was what she wanted, of course, as her brother, he would happily help. “Lets, then!” he said, nudging her back with a deep, basso rumble. It would, definitely, be good to stretch his legs. After all, it always was. He was also curious to see what she was talking about (and if it was some sort of dangerous idea, he was, at least, there to protect her). They were going to go exploring together... how fun! But first things first: They had to get out from under the eyes of their guardians. Having a grownup around made things slightly less fun – always with rules and restraints and dont-do-thises. Keke's only rule was the truth of discovery, and that had no true limits. “Hmm...” he looked around – at the Orakoi, at the clan mothers, at their own sitter. “We're pretty well guarded, though.” not that that had stopped him before. He rumbled to himself quietly, “Hmm, but I think if we go out – carefully – by the ledge, we should get by them!” he knew the ledge, a path along the cliff from their cavern to a neighboring cavern, had nobody on it and the cave, which exited out below, had an inhabitant, but she was not inside just now, leaving the care of her orakoi to the clan while she hunted for food for the community. He could feel it's emptiness, and he knew that was the way... if they were careful.

Good, he was on board. On board enough, anyway. Not that Vazarri was surprised. Keke would probably do just about anything she wished. She hummed out her delight, leaning in to snuggle her head under his chin and to give his throat a rewarding lick. "Okay!" She agreed with an enthusiastic nod. "I've been practicing, Keke, while you're asleep at night, so I bet I can get us out inconspicuously!" She bounded to the ledge, her heels kicking up and her wings fanning to keep her aloft for an extra second or two at a time. Before she reached the edge, where the sun would bathe her in that glow, she paused, beckoning Keke over. Once he was within range, she puffed out her chest, drawing forth the shadows from behind them to convene in as thick a smog as she could muster. It would dissipate quickly in the sun, so, "We'll have to be fast! Very fast," she told Keke. The shadow formed around them, and with a wiggle of her tail, Zarri leaped toward the edge. She could feel her brother sticking close at hand, and she couldn't help a delighted chirp as the rocks shifted beneath her claws. As expected, when the sun graced her shadows, they melded away like defrosting ice. She clung to any darkness the crags offered, stalling their complete disappearance for as long as possible. She didn't have time to pause and see if they'd been spotted, but since no one was shouting, she assumed they were safe. They landed at the lip of the cavern that led to freedom, and Zarri ran. She kicked her tiny heels up, huffing and puffing and squeaking encouragement to herself and Keke in this last stretch of escape.

Keke was pleased that she was happier now: it was such a great transformation from her mood of before, and he welcomed it. If he likened it to bringing 'light to darkness', he kept it to himself. Something about what she had said intrigued him, and he tilted his head curiously as she wandered to the ledge . Practicing? While he was asleep? Practicing what? What had she been practicing? Could she mean... magic?! Was Vazarri about to use her magic? When she beckoned, he approached, curious. He was not dissappointed. He grinned with delight as she shrouded them both in shadowy fog, immensely proud of his sister for such a working. “Amazing!” he breathed, nudging the sludgy shadows with his nose. It was an unpleasant sensation – a slippery and malevolent feeling - but new none the less and his sister was doing it. “Simply amazing, 'Zarri.” He wanted to ask her all about it, but for now... there were other matters to attend to. He was quick on his feet, and he stuck close by her, trotting expertly along the rocks, keeping up with ease, dust and small stones shifting to cover and quiet their footsteps. This was all so exciting, so interesting, Keke couldn't wait to see where they went. When she ran, he ran, a bolt of black amidst the shadows, dust and sand swirling behind them to hide their passage. It was fun to run, more fun to escape, and – with a bound and a leap – he crossed over the threshold: the natural stone arch that marked the border between the clan's territory and the wild mountains beyond. “That was fun, Zarri!” he chirped. But he always had fun with his sister. The whole of the expanse now stretched before them, in valleys and peaks and canyons. “Which way, sister, to your adventure?” he asked her. It was, after all, only polite.

"Simply amazing, Zarri." Her tail flicked out to brush him, but otherwise, she hid her glee at the comment. After all, the mission ahead couldn't be sundered by a delighted outburst. Once they were safely beyond the clan's territory, she looked out. Before them expanded the canyons, the crags, the endless sky. Greenery dotted the landscape and she sucked in a bated breath. She had yet to fully explore the land with her father nearby. She expected Keke probably knew more of it than she did, being much more adventurous. Still, now was the time to summon forth all that she'd learned in her scant years. She raised her nose to the wind, tail coiled tightly behind her and wings fanning to catch the breeze. The things she smelled... earth, sand, crystal, leaves; both green and dieing; pines, soot, mud, salt... ocean. A faint trace of it, carried from far away. She tipped her maw in that direction. "That way," she told her brother. "Keke, it's over there!" With a harsh kick from her back paws, she descended, fanning her wings to catch the breeze and guide her beyond. The road was open. The path was paved. Onward they flew!
