Silent Hills will be the ninth installment to the Silent Hill franchise. It is being directed by Hideo Kojima (creator of Metal Gear Solid series) with assistance from Guillermo del Toro, a world-renown horror movie director. With the release of the P.T. (playable teaser) it was revealed that Norman Reedus of Walking Dead and Boondock Saints would serve as the visual inspiration of the main character as well as provide the voice.
During the pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference it was revealed by Sony that the P.T. had been downloaded over a million times and had been viewed over 30,000,000 times across the platforms. I believe this stands to show the incredible reception we could be faced with when the full game launches. It will launch on the PS4, XBOX One, and PC. As with other Silent Hill games, this one is being published by Konami.
Masahiro Ito, one of the background and monster designers of Team Silent, tweeted that he would be willing to work on the new Silent Hills game. While it is not official as to whether he will be or not, Akira Yamaoka, the legend himself, stated that he would be happy to compose music for it as well (but who would turn down an offer from Akira when you are shooting for a perfect Silent Hill experience?!)
An interesting fact I learned from Silent Hill Wiki, the P.T. was originally released under a fake studio name 7780 Studios. 7780 originated as the square kilometer area known as Shizuoka which is a Japanese prefecture that translates to "Quiet Hills". The site also stated many Japanese people simply refer to the series as Shizuoka.
SPEAKING OF RELEASE DATES:
A couple different locations I researched mentioned that Konami reportedly confirmed that the game is to launch Halloween of 2016. While I am saddened to see the game potentially faced with a 2 year span until release, if ever there was going to be a good time, Halloween would serve as a terrifying treat for the holiday (not to mention this is a good release date just a short while before Christmas).
