Zeke’s day, after Ever had left that morning, had been spent relatively normally. He’d made his rounds, working with various members of different divisions. Still nothing terribly complicated, but he’d at least proven himself competent enough to graduate from mindless busy work. It kept him busy, until he’d paused for lunch. Restless with the sudden short stretch of down time, he’d fished his phone from his pocket and sent a text. Just checking up, without checking up. Fully away Ever might not even bother returning it. Quote: Text to Evermore:What time are you off duty? He didn't ask how he was doing, despite a nagging desire to know. If Ever was getting through his day smoothly, he did not want to be the cause of suddenly bringing back whatever it was he'd tried to drown out with vodka the night before.

Zeke could, of course, have just done what Ever did: appear at peoples' doors, knock until they showed up, randomly drop by. Instead, he did what the rest of the world did. Technology. Text message. It made him puff out a little sigh. His reply would take a while, floundering as always, awkward and obviously uncomfortable. beejoux Text to Ezekiel: I'm at the library. -- Ever

On a normal day it would have been fun to shoot off a good number of messages to the Lifer, just to be a pain in the a**. Today he resisted, easily, and instead went back to his lunch, finishing it off, so he could head towards his room to pick up a couple books that needed returning. It took a little while, after dropping them off in the little slot upon his arrival, to locate the blonde between the aisles of books. When he did he moved quietly, a hand raised to drag fingertips along the bindings lined up on the shelf beside him, scanning the titles. Not the sort of books he had been leafing through recently, he guessed they had more to do with what Ever had mentioned. Myths and legends. "Research?" He didn't want to startle the Lifer, not today.

At the moment, Ever was cleaning up: library duties consisted at least as much of putting books back on the shelf as taking them off to poke around. As quiet as Zeke had been, it still made him start a bit, looking up -- and then coming into focus with a little quirk of a smile. Himself, certainly, if a bit distracted. "Shelving, mostly." He wiggled the armful of books in his arms as he said it, then paused, and held them out toward Zeke. If he was here, he could hold while Ever put them away. "Are you done? Totally done?"

The smile was returned, an easy curl of lips as he slid up behind the other man. "I see." He took the books as they were held out to him without complaint. He certainly seemed to be doing better, and that was an improvement. A touch distracted, but no longer looking lost. "Done-ish," he offered, smirking. "I have Life duties left, I think I was supposed to be cleaning cages, but cleaning up the library counts, right?" Didn't matter, Zeke wasn't going anywhere. "What have you got left?"

"Put everything here away, another pass to make sure no one left anything out." He shrugged off the question as he sorted the books in Zeke's arms: if they were in order here, then it would be easier to slide them into their places on the shelves. Ever's expression was focused as he did it, thinking of work instead of anything else. "Make sure nothing else got left out, either. Thompson was eating a brownie, I should make sure he threw out his wrapper, but..." He took the top book, fingertips trailing over the spines as he hunted the shelf for its place. "I suspect he did."

This was actually the sort of work Zeke enjoyed. He liked things to be neat and tidy, ordered. It was actually quite calming, and he kept close to Ever, let him sort the books in his arms, and kept an eye out for anything out of place--all without complaint. As Thompson was brought up Zeke recalled the brief snippets of conversation he's observed or participated in on twitter earlier in the day. "I talked to him today, very briefly, and about nothing in particular." It hardly seemed worth mentioning, but since they were stuck there. "He's a little high-strung. Seems entertaining though."

That made Ever blink, flicking a look back to him, curious maybe -- because he didn't imagine a twitter back and forth, some babble through the internet, so much as he did a brief one-on-one. Two ships passing and having a little chat as they did. Not very Taym, to be honest. "He was in a good mood today. Upbeat." Ever seemed amused as he said it, shaking his head and putting away more books. "I was asking him about a computer, I know he has one..."

From what he'd seen, it looked like Taym frequented Twitter quite routinely, but Ever did not, evidenced by the fact he had yet to comment on the messages Zeke had left for him. It had him tempted to send more, just so there'd be a mass of them, on the off chance the blonde ever did. "Did he happen to mention how much it was to have one runiced?" Zeke had been thinking about what to do with his bonus, and getting himself a laptop had been at the top of the list. "I'n tempted to get one, it would make data collection a hell of a lot easier. " A tablet was at a close second, but until he knew how easy it'd be to get books on the thing he was holding off.

"Couple hundred, but that's...dependent." he shook his head a little bit, looking up as he said it to gage Zeke's reaction. Ever himself was clueless, uncertain, shoulders rolled in a very brief shrug. "On the techs. They might be nice to me, since I'm Life too, or they might not, because I'm not hot, young and busty." A crapshoot, really. Ever shook his head as he shoved the last book into place on the shelf. "Apparently they gouge some people and do it practically for free, for others."

He considered it, on top of the cost of a decent laptop. It wasn't bad, given they all had a steady income and didn't have to pay rent or utilities. The bonus he'd gotten would certainly cover it, cooperating Lifer techs, or not. After a moment he shrugged. "It's doable." It didn't seem to come as a surprise that price varied based on gender and disposition. That was how the world worked, or at least the world Zeke had been living in. Something had him smiling though, as eyes slide from one side of the aisle to the other before back up to meet Ever's much darker ones. "Oh, I dunno," he mused, voice lower, and reached out to catch the dark olive of Ever's scarf, reeling him in closer. "I'd say you were plenty hot."

"You have terrible taste." Ever's tone was dry, somewhat distracted. He let Zeke draw him in, licking almost nervously at his lips. Maybe it was the public place that left him just a bit reluctant, or the fact that he was still on duty. Teasing, easy, comfortable, but -- "And I only have about a thousand bucks. Is that even enough to buy the computer part? I have no idea what I need..." He wouldn't pull away, at least, just shook his head a tiny bit at Zeke, fingertips resting lightly against his shoulder.

"I beg to differ." He leaned in, grinning. "I have impeccable taste." It would have been easy, to steal the kiss, but he still didn't want to push Ever too hard. Still, the thought was there, in pale eyes, the urge to do just that, before the smile softened and he let Ever's gently pressing fingers ease him back. Back on the topic of computers, one shoulder lifted in a half shrug. "If you're looking for something with classes in mind, a few hundred bucks should be fine." His head tilted, the barest flicker of amusement crossing tanned features. "That is what you want it for, right?" If he wanted something to play games on(which he found unlikely, given what he knew of Ever), or do anything art related)again, unlikely), he'd need something with a little more oomph, but basic would be just fine for the Lifer's needs. "If you really want one, I can come with you to shop around. We can push back Paris a month, or go after." Another small shrug, hands moving up so fingers could hook into the side loops on Ever's jeans, almost absently.

"I still have days I haven't used. I could go off on my own..." But he didn't sound sure about that, peering down at Zeke with his head cocked just to one side and a hand still resting against his shoulder, if lightly. Debating the chances of him in a store explaining what he wanted and not getting ripped off... "I've never...I've never really owned a computer, though. Or bought anything more expensive than a hundred fifty bucks." And as he said that he pointed down, somewhat absently, to his sturdy boots. A twitch of a smile, and Ever shrugged. "So maybe not so wise. They don't have them in France, though?"

Zeke gave him an incredulous look, brows lifting and lips twisting off to one side. Ready to explain why that was a bad idea, until until he became redundant to do so. "They do, but computers aren't universal. They're language formatted, so if you bought one in France..." He trailed off, eyeing the taller man, then started again. "It would provide a complication I doubt you'd have any desire to deal with." The technical whys would have been lost of Ever. "I could write you out a list of specs to look for. It would get you the machine you needed, but if I was there I could probably find you a deal, save you some money." Money wasn't hugely important to Zeke. So long as he had enough to get what he wanted or needed, that was good enough. "You could just use mine, when I get it."
