Chel adjusted the grip on her daggers in nervousness. They felt wrong in her hands. They were too square, too light. They kept slipping between her grip. They weren't strong like Tenebrae, nor nimble and thin.

< Hardly a comparison. >

She pursed her lips and summoned the courage to approach Finn. "Uh ... hey?" What did one say in this sort of awkward patch up? "Told I could get a good fight in here?"

An awkward gulp is had as she holds up her daggers, which clearly reveals the bracelet on her wrist. "Need some help."

As per usual, at the same time once a week Finn was on the beach, sitting on the sand and watching the waves roll up to the shore. This was where he had been given permission to pit hunters against each other, where there was no protective barrier to keep them from taking damage once their shields broke. He wasn't really expecting anybody to show up today, as nobody had for the last couple of weeks. Nobody really seemed crazy enough to willingly let themselves be injured and sent to the infirmary without Finn coercing them somehow.

The familiarity of the voice behind him didn't register at first. Something about it just didn't quite sound like Chel. A glance over his shoulder showed that it was her, however, and after everything Jack had told him through texts while he'd been away, most of what he saw wasn't any surprise, and what was didn't show on his face at all, a cold eye narrowing and no smile given to greet her.

Daggers? Those were new. The bracelet he'd heard about, and looked just like the one that Ripley had worn once, so he knew what that was all about.

"Did you bring anybody to fight against?" No preamble, no false cheer at seeing her up and around, no formal greeting what so ever. "You must have, or you'd seriously just be wasting my time right now."

Because sitting on a beach for an hour wasn't doing that for him already.

There was something about Finn's response that ticked Chel off. Maybe it was because she'd been softened by everyone else around here cheering at her return from the quarantine. Maybe she'd had a lot of time to think about the way Finn had treated her, and decided she didn't like it very much.

Whatever the reason, Chel walked up to where he was sitting and promptly pulled him into a headlock. "Am I wastin' your time now? If there ain't anybody here I'll just kick your a**."

He didn't bother moving. He didn't even react when she wrapped her arms around his head. His arms stayed at his side, and his face stayed it's usual impassive self.

"Get off of me." Was all he said. He could feel the cold press of her metal bracelet against his face and he gritted his back teeth against the unwelcome sensation. "Now."

Well, well. This was quite the scene to come across. Ripley paused in his walk a few paces behind Finn and the ever-affectionate Chel, watching them for a moment before piping up:

"Am I interrupting?" His head tilted a little bit, looking down on the two with little care. "Because I can come back later."

Chel dropped Finn like a dog dropping a toy, letting him fall to the ground without a second thought. She waved at Ripley and called out to him, "Ay Riptide! C'mere for a sec."

Perfect timing on his part. "Finn here's too afraid I'll kick his a**. I need someone to help me play with daggers." She waved her runic daggers around like they were a soft stuffed animal instead of the sharp dangerous object they were.

Ripley's expression dropped to disapproval at the nickname. Well, he shouldn't have been surprised - and indeed he wasn't - but it was better than the alternative, he supposed. Still, he listened on as she explained, his gaze drifting once to the weapons in her hands...then, naturally, to the metal around her wrist.

Ah.

With a casual blink he returned his gaze to hers, and nodded.

"Do you want me to use my weapon?" It was as close to an okay, sure that she was going to get.

"Of course I do!" Chel barked. "I ain't no coward, don't insult me like that." Chel wiggled her coat to remind Ripley that regardless of loyalty status, she was still a full rank above him.

She patted Finn and said, "He'll patch ya up when I kick you a**, don't worry." It was strange because her fave was gaunt and her body too thin, but she still held herself with the same s**t eating grin. Some things never changed regardless of trauma.

He had plenty of things to say to that, from I didn't mean to offend to calm down, it was just a question, but instead he said nothing. He had his answer, and there was no point to antagonize her further, at least on that question. The time was also taken to get a good look at her, noting her weight loss and filing it away under concern; he could have asked, but...

Instead he turned his head to look at Finn.

"Will you?" It was an important question; either Finn agreed, or he turned around and left. He wasn't stupid enough to fight outside of the buffer without someone else there.

When Finn didn't want to be touched, he really didn't want to be touched, and when Chel let him go, he immediately scooted to his feet and retreated by a few paces, arms going to cross over his chest. He wasn't scowling. In fact, there wasn't so much as the tiniest frown on his face, which looked as impassive as ever. At Chelsea's boast however, he raised an eyebrow, and scoffed.

"From what I hear, the power of rejection is all it would take to leave you crying on the ground." No, it was obvious Finn still didn't care to filter his words, didn't care if it hurt or earned him a black eye. His gaze held steady on Chel for a moment, and then it moved to Ripley.

"Of course I will." In answer to Ripley's question. He wasn't sure that the Death intermediate would be the one to lose in this situation, but judging by past experiences, there was a pretty good chance. No point in giving the other man false hope with encouraging words.

"Start whenever you're ready. I'll sit back and wait." And watch, and probably comment from time to time when it suited him. He would do defense, but in past experiences, it was pointless and his weapons ability would do no good on a broken shield anyways.

Chel sent a glare Finn's way and said, "Now you be careful Finn, or yer gonna find a dagger planted in yer back just the same." It was complimented with her sticking out her tongue at him in a very mature, threatening way. She also silently realized this meant Finn knew, which meant Jack was blabbing. What exactly had he said? Who all knew?

Things to remember later.

"Awright Riptide. Come at me bro."

Ripley politely pretended to not hear the quip from Finn to Chel (and the one in reverse) in the same way he responded to everything else he had no interest in: he ignored it entirely, and continued to play in his own, curious thoughts.

"Thanks." He liked that there were no encouraging words to follow; he knew that a fight with Chel, even as she was, could still lead to her being the victor. It was his fate, he knew it, accepted it, and was more than ready to get it over with so he could move on with his life to dance with death another day.

"Very well." Ripley said easily, at least recognizing the quip as a challenge instead of a literal title. He was learning, at least!

He didn't seem to have anything else to say, or any reason to hesitate any longer. So, in one fell swoop, he summoned his sword and brought it down in a wide arc, swinging his aim at Chel's shoulder.

Chel brought up her right hand to defend from the attack to her shoulder because it was the instinctive thing for her to do. Normally there would be a very long, pointy stick to block the entirety of his blade, but instead Ripley's blade went right through to connect to her shoulder.

But Chel was still a Sun, and she did have some minor training in other weapons, and was at least still sharp enough to arc her daggers around into his stomach. "Gotta do a little better than that," she snipped with a grin.

"I'm aware." He was sub-par at best, but at least he understood that he was. Still, he didn't take her comment to heart, and instead tried to bring the large weapon down to attempt a defence with it to dodge the majority of the attack. Her daggers sliced through but clipped off Wilhelm at the last minute, so all in all, it could have been worse.

He spun his weapon to hold it backwards, and pressed forward shove the sharp ears of the pommel's horse into her stomach, forcing her backwards to give just enough room for a half-assed slice against her abdomen with his sword. It was a vague attempt to either knock her off her feet, or to put distance between them; either way, he was rather proud of his fairly solid hit.

"Better?"
