A grin wildly spread across the mare’s muzzle as her blond mane whipped through the wind. Finally, she had made it to the top of the pyramid that was tucked deep in the murky jungle. The sounds of creatures echoed below as she stretched out her wings letting the wind flutter through her feathers. The flat top of the pyramid stood almost a foot higher from the tops of the tallest trees allowing Chii to see for miles as the sun’s soft orange glow danced along the leaves before filtering its warm glow down below to the inky blackness. Perfect, it was everything she had imagined it would be, well everything except the five billion stairs that loomed below but that wasn’t much of a concern for a winged soquili. A couple of long leaps and she was up in a dash even without breaking so much as a bead of sweat. Standing proudly she puffed her chest out a little before letting her stoic pose fall into a fit of laughter.

“This…is…not…worth….this…..” a voice replied, gasping after each word as she tried filling her lungs with air her heavy body heaving up the last of the stairs, reaching the top and her rolling onto the flat surface Terror still gasped for air. Her lungs were burning as if they were going to set the rest of her body on fire.

“Whhhyyyy Chii… whhyyyy….” Terror cried as she watched the familiar green mare burst with tears on the corner of her eyes. Even her rabbit Scrappy who was sprawled belly up at the top as his tongue rolled down the side of his cheek panting. His little lungs trying to catch every breath of air he could. So many stairs, sure Terror was pretty sure that even at the bottom the stairs that they were going to kill her but now with her heart drumming into her head she was sure she was going to die. This was merely nothing more than some sort of trip designed to murder her before she grew a beard.

Mare’s grew beards right? She was sure they did.

Chii continued to laugh, letting it roll into a soft chuckle before nuzzling Terror’s neck with her cheek. She could feel heat of her body as the sweat dampened her fur, leaving a cool mark as the breeze danced across it. Shaking her head again she grinned, “Oh the stairs wasn’t that bad at least you could see them all and there wasn’t even any traps to avoid. It’s the easiest part there is you know! Besides…. That wasn’t why I brought you here.” The green mare replied as she peered down at the familiar mare letting her long blonde hair tickle Terror’s shoulder.

“Easy for you to say, you have wings and flew most of the way up us poor magical souls without flying abilities had to take a step at a time, and dragons, well dragons have gotten to small to ride and so there fore I had to walk all hundred billion steps and die. See. Dead.” Terror replied as she closed her eyes let her legs go lifeless as her tongue rolled out onto the dusty top of the pyramid. She tried to remain there but after a minute of leaving her tongue in the dust she sputtered trying to get the dry bitter taste out of her mouth. Dirt was never tasty, she had tried to eat it once when she was a foal after watching Scrappy digging his way through it only to find it tasted gritty and terrible.

“See your fine Terror, now get up before you miss it,” Chii replied giving her the familiar soft smile of fondness. Despite all of the mare’s oddities there was very few soquilis that she enjoyed the company of in more ways than one. All the small quirks, the little sayings, even the times of her rabbling off and mixing up words to mean other things made the green mare smile with care. Terror wasn’t the only one, she had other lovers, others she cared about in some fashion of another but Terror was special and Chii wanted to do everything she could to protect her and drag her on every adventure she could.

“Fffiiinnnnneeeeeeeeeee……” Terror replied as she rolled to her feet lingering a little too close to the edge for Chii’s liking. Getting to her feet she leaned her tired body against Chii’s her sweat covered in dust clung to her own fur almost like mud. “So what is this great great surprise you have for me oh most wonderful Chii goddess of making me almost die five billion deaths.” As she spoke she wrapped her tail around the green’s mare leg resting her head along her neck. Her heart was still pounding Terror could hear it echoing against Chii’s own, it was almost like hers was beating three times as fast as hers was but for Terror that was a permanent thing. Chii was always so calm and without her Terror doubted she ever would be.

She could feel the excitement bubbling up in her chest; it was so close so close to the time that she could barely contain her own excitement. “This,” Chii remarked as the sun edge of the sun reached the tops of the trees its light dancing along the golden color of leaves. Only for a few minutes everything around looked almost golden as if frozen by Midas’s hoof. Chii could hear as Terror’s inhaled sharply, even the lost of her comments let her know that she for once was stunned enough to keep silent. There was nothing more than her wanting to share the moment with someone she cared so much about like the mare standing next to her, even if she was sweaty and covered in dust.

Terror stared, her heart still beating like crazy in her ears. Everything was the color gold, and of course her favorite color of all. Gold was valuable, and even tho she knew it was nothing more than the trick of the sun for a moment she felt as if Chii had delivered the entire world to her. She wanted to reach out and touch all of it, roll in it like it was sand and swim as if it was water and even for a split second she would even share with someone maybe even share it with Chii. As the sun continued to fade the world started to lose it color reverting back to the dull color of leaves that existed in reality letting Terror finally sighed as she finally moved away from the mare and looked at Scrappy making sure he was ok.

Resting her nose on Chii shoulder she rubbed it for a moment, “Thank you…. I mean its not as great as real gold but… yea.. thank you.”

Even as the sun faded the smile on Chii’s grin didn’t she kept it until Terror spoke. Turning to her she nuzzled the mare’s cheek her cheeks slightly glowing with red, “Oh please don’t get sappy on me know. It’s not like you, but you know… your welcome.” Turning her attention to the top of the temple she shook her wings and placed something that looked almost like a shark’s grin on her face. “NOW! On to the fun part its temple raiding time!” With a laugh that could terrify a mummy Chii took off in a full sprint towards the door not looking back until she got to the door.

“Come on you know you want toooo,” Her blonde hair cascading down her neck as her smile still remained glued on her face.

She was beautiful Terror thought, not that she would ever tell her, if she did she would get the biggest head in the world that would have the capabilities to float her off to space. “WWWHYYYYYY I JUST GOT HERE CAN’T WE WAIT TILL TOMORROW. TOMORROW IS GOOD RIGHT YES YES.” Terror slowly started walking towards her a snigger lingering under the rim of her hat. She would hate it, she was sure, she was sure that something would leap out of the walls scare her until she was white but if it was for her it was worth it.
