Heidi wasn't into letting people know she was upset. She was, quite honestly. But she carried herself as if everything was perfectly normal and fine; Heidi didn't go around telling the world she and Tuck were on a break, she didn't cry every minute of every day (that was a thing done in the privacy of her room or the shower), she didn't talk about it to anyone. It was a private matter.

But it didn't mean she wasn't upset.

A break, okay. She could do a break. As long as he kept his word that it was..just a break. They could still be friends during it. Talk. Laugh together. Hang out. Do the stupid things they used to do together before they even started dating.

He never even replied to her messages. Not even a simple 'ok'. She tried not to take it too hard.

Another arrow flew through a target dummy's head. Heidi frowned, aiming for the chest next. She experimented, trying something new. Two arrows? Could she two two arrows at once? She bit down on her lip and concentrated hard. Come on, Matilda..

Two arrows eventually formed, and she let them go..! Only for one of them to fly straight into the ground and the other to just go flying off in a random direction entirely. Heidi sighed. "Well, I tried.."

Tuck had been working his a** off. Picking up extra duties, spending time training, time in the gym working out, time jogging. The more time he spent doing things, the less time he had to worry about falling asleep. Sleep was not as restful as it'd once been. The nightmares were there and in full effect, but with different faces. Evan was in them, and so were the rest of his boys. So to avoid them, Tuck didn't sleep.

And he hadn't for the past three days.

The training field was where he went to clear his mind, and usually it worked. Today, though, he immediately caught sight of Heidi - and honestly, he very nearly walked away. Just one more thing he didn't feel like he could handle - but he didn't spin on his heel and leave, because he'd promised her that they could still be friends no matter how difficult it was for him. All of her sweet gestures only made him feel that much worse.

Clenching his jaw and squaring his shoulders, Tuck walked towards Heidi and gave her a smile. It wasn't forced, but his exhaustion was probably pretty obvious.

"Hey." He cleared his throat. "You wanna spar?"

She'd just try again! Heidi took her stance again, pulling the string back to make another arrow. Tuck's voice reached her ears right after she sent it off, so Heidi never saw where it went. Instead, heart fluttering, Heidi immediately whirled around to face Tuck with a huge smile. A smile that faltered slightly at the sight of him. Why was he so..tired?

...He wasn't sleeping. He did that before, too.

"Hey! I'd love to!" A pause. Heidi looked like she wanted to say something more, and she definitely did, she had a lot of things she wanted to say in that moment, but..she'd wait. No use bombarding Tuck with things all at once. Instead she smiled again. "Been a long while since we did this, eh?"

"Too long," Tuck agreed, summoning his weapon. Herryk had gone largely unchanged - just a little broader, a little taller. Other than that, he looked very much the same.

Tuck gave another big, tired smile and gestured with a broad sweep of his arm.

"Ladies first."

Heidi chuckled, backing away with Matilda aimed at Tuck. "You look tired. You been sleeping?" He didn't look like it. She had a feeling the answer was no.

Next an arrow flew right at Tuck, aiming for his arm.

"Yeah," he lied, grunting when the arrow hit his arm. He swung - and missed. Tuck tensed, set his jaw, and waited for Heidi's attack.

"You sleepin'?"

He didn't know why he asked, but he did because boring conversation seemed better than thinking about all the ways he'd ******** up in the recent past.

Heidi pouted. "Man, you look super refreshed and well rested. I'm jealous." She wasn't buying it, not for a second, but she wouldn't argue. Instead she adjusted the grip she had on Matilda to swing her, but instead of a strike it ended up being an attempt to knock Tuck down by catching Matilda behind his leg and pulling.

"Yeah, lots. More than I used to." She shrugged. "Little too much, actually. Eh. I'll get over it eventually."

And then she perked up, smiling again. "Wanna play a game? Like last time!"

Tuck went down like a ton of ******** bricks.

For a second he merely closed his eyes as he was prone on the ground, and it felt like he could sleep forever. It really did. It felt like he could just lay there in the dirt and sleep. Only problem was that the instant he closed his eyes he couldn't help but think.

He rose to his feet slowly, grunting beneath his breath as he straightened. An ugly expression came over his face, and he swung his axe wildly - had it hit Heidi, it would have done massive damage. Out of pure frustration, he sank his axe into the dirt next to her.

"Ain't in the mood for no games, Heidi. Sorry."

Heidi gasped and sidestepped out of the way of the axe. "Geeze, Herryk has really grown." That really could have hurt. No doubt about it.

She frowned. "No? Okay. You might'a liked what I was offering." She shrugged. Heidi held Matilda ready now, taking on a more defensive stance. He wasn't hitting too well, it was concerning.

Tuck might've been intrigued if Heidi hadn't chosen that moment to defend. It felt like a blow against his capability as a hunter (and his manhood, though he'd never admit it). He found himself more than mildly annoyed, even more frustrated. It felt like there was a large disconnect between himself and his weapon, and it was something that needed to be fixed. Immediately.

"Defend again."

He swung. He missed.

"Man, ******** this. I can't hit s**t."

Maybe it was because he was tired, or maybe it was because he just ******** sucked.

"I'll defend. You hit."

Heidi shook her head. "No, give it one more try first." He was tired. Really tired. How long has he not slept for? "One more try."

Maybe she was enjoying this, watching him fail over and over. Maybe it was funny to her. Maybe he was just tired, but he refused to sleep. Staying awake was the only way he felt sane. He was plagued by dreams every ******** time he closed his eyes.

Tuck brought Herryk around in a broad sweep. He missed again, completely. Frustration was starting to show in the lines of his face, the clench of his jaw, the tired set of his mouth.

"Satisfied? I can't hit ********' anything. I'll ********' defend."

Maybe he would suck less at that.
