I looked that up before, but I'd rather ask someone real (as opposed to a static Internet page). I feel kinda awkward talking about boobs and stuff sweatdrop but yeah, this is our place to talk about all kinds of things, right?

Boobs! blaugh

So, for those of you who bind, I have a few questions:

* What do you use to bind? I read that some people use stretchy bandages, while others use duct tape (ouch?) or wear "sports bras", or do combinations of many methods. What works best for real? P.S. small man-boobs here.

* How exactly do you bind? Like, which way do you push the boobs? Outwards? Downwards? What?

* If you have been binding for a while, is it true that it makes boobs saggy and bigger?

Before I used Underworks binders, I'd use a combo of sports bras and Ace bandages at first. Then moved to the ABs.

As far as the binding, I'd wrap the bandages around my chest tightly till it gives a flatter appearance. Said binding would push it down, yet sometimes, it'd push it outward.

As far as the binding goes, it depends. I sadly have noticed said 'bigger boobage'. :c

Alright I have to say this first as an obligatory warning.
Binding with anything that is not meant to be bound with, Ace Bandage especially, is likely to actually cause damage if done frequently or for long periods of time. It can bruise your ribs and restrict your breathing as well as break down some of the tissue under the skin.

Now that that is over with, let me be too honest.
I'm a 42 DDD. I'm not a small person and I have a large bust. I have used, an underworks binder, ace bandage, sports bras, duct tape, sports bras and ace bandage...ect You get the picture. I would say that if you're already on the small side you may want to just invest in a couple of compression shirts that you would find in the mens sports section of some stores. Namely Under Armour. It's usually with baseball stuff. But it helps to flatten the area pretty evenly without actually giving obvious dips under the bust.

Have you been binding for long periods of time every time? Like, all day long for many days?
And if you bind not too often, does it have the same effect?

Yeah I know it is kinda dangerous, kinda like corsets and anything else that pokes the body in any direction.

I did try wearing tight undershirts (the sleeveless ones, I think some people call them wife-beater? Some name. . .) under my clothes but that day I had a loose shirt anyways so it kinda hid the whole thing. I think I will go look for some more of these 3nodding

Think sports bras would work alone?

Before the binders: 12-14 hours
Now: I try to keep at 12 hours a day, but if I get slammed into an extra shift at work, I'm forced to bind for close to 16+.

I personally don't bind, but I want to share the experience of a person on Tumblr I follow. They posted this publicly and I learned a lot about binding I didn't know before (like avoiding ACE bandages because they tighten and can do harm).

Anon asks "do you have any binder recs?"

Jamie has become a mentor-figure for a lot of FtM and other trans* folks in our fandom (Pacific Rim). His being so open about his personal trans* experience make me feel a lot more secure and encouraged me to be more open about being genderqueer, too!

If you're as small chested as it seems then possibly.
If you have the chance to just go to the store and try
on ones that are different tightness and see what
gives you the result you want.

That's a lot of continuous hours gonk which may be the reason behind the increasing size. So I heard, but I don't know anything for sure to be honest.

Thanks 3nodding I will check his Tumblr. I always like to follow Trans people and see what I can learn from them and their experiences.

I have a bit of binder experience so I'll share what I know.

DON'T USE Ace bandages, ducktape, or basically anything that is not made of a stretchy, breathable material. Ace bandages may seem okay, but they are meant to constrict and your lungs and chest are not meant to be restricted.

DON'T bind with more intense binders for more than 3-4 hours at first so your body can get used to it. It's like a corset; you can't wear it too tight or too long until you've gotten your body used to the constriction. After a while??? like a couple weeks to a month maybe, 8ish hours is good. Wearing it for 12 or something is not recommended. Rib damage is BAD, it can puncture a lung, it can cause dull or sharp pain for years, it can bend ribs. Dysphoria sucks, but make sure you stay healthy. There are lighter ways to bind if you need to go longer.

Also make sure to wash your binders properly so they last as long as they can. :3

Tighter binders for large cups size/best binding:

Tri-top - www.underworks.com, www.ftmbinders.com
This is my main binder. I highly recommend. Pretty comfortable, good cover. I have C/D cup breasts and I've gotten many compliments. A higher expense, but good quality.

Also the sites listed above have more binders. The tri top goes down to the top of the stomach. Some people prefer full length.

Cheaper binder:

!!!The words used are not the best, so if you're sensitive to that then avoid this one!!!

SHO binder on eBay - A little rougher and less durable than higher quality binders. Try not to bind for too long, the quality isn't the best. I used this for a while, but I stopped because it made my muscles sore. Some people love it though, and it's cheap. For small to middle sized chests.

Strapless:

For tank tops and such. Haven't actually tried these but I've looked them up and I'm gonna buy one soon. These have a tendency to slip down depending on the build of your body. Tape and plastic strips can help.

DANAE with velcro - This is the one I'm probly gonna get. No in depth reviews, but I haven't gleaned anything bad from what I have seen. Velcro in the back. About $50. A little difficult to get on but what's new about that

Loveboat velcro to Neopreneh - Lots of reviews, lots of good and bad things. Pros are that it works, it's comfy, it's a good price. Cons are it sticks to itself which pulls at the binder fabric itself, so it damages the binder. Also some complaints about the smell - very factory and rubbery.

All of these site also have other binders, so look around and find one that fits your budget and preferences.

I don't have much experience with homebrew/lighter binding options so I'll leave that one to someone else. (:

I'm smaller up front, so I can get away with wearing a kiddie swimsuit top underneath, with a baggy t-shirt and hoodie over. However, it's not perfect...so I sometimes jam another layer on underneath and it works unless I have a backpack on.

If I have a backpack on, I have to tuck in my baggy shirt and spread the bagginess all around, then put a loose hoodie over. If I don't feel like the binding's doing a good job (if it feels like it's showing, even when I know for sure it's not), I jam in a tight shirt over with a couple loose ones over.

I haven't been binding for too long, so I really don't know what I'd do in the summer. But by then, I'll have a job and (hopefully) enough to buy a legit binder.

Stepping in though this hasn't had new replies in a while, just thought of sharing my experiences.

Now I basically use just underworks binders, I have two but my sis claimed one for cosplay and I haven't gotten it back yet. I also have two very cheap low-quality binders from eBay. And one SUPER old one from T-Kingdom.

I thought the eBay binders were great, they are small and the binding section goes under a small tank top. The problem was that there were hooks on one side and stretching rubber bands on the other side. I thought it was ok, since the rubber bands allowed me to breath freely, but turns out this left all the strain on only one side of my body, causing pain and also muscle ache. (Not sure if I broke anything)

I'm an all-day binder so it's extremely important that the product is good quality. I now only use eBay binders for special occasions and stick to Underworks, because they're the most comfortable. Old T-Kingdom binder is all stretched out and sewn smaller couple of times, it's ragged. I use it when I swim, with a light black shirt which resembles the fabric in speedos or something. xd Together it looks like a weird wetsuit and that's great haha.

I bind by pulling the binder over and pushing my boobs "inwards" towards my chest with the help of the binder. Like literally flattening them before I flatten them more with binder. I try to place them like pecs. Usually this is not the most "flat" result, but to me it's good enough because I feel like it stretches my skin the least. And the less my skin is stretched because of huge amount of binding, the better my mastectomy/top surgery result will look one day, or that's what I think/hope... Because I really can't help but bind, I get anxious if I don't bind.
