Though the air was still warm, it was cooling some. Margaery had begun to notice this over the last weeks, as she dealt with the aftermath of the great battle. It had been months, really, but the air had just begun to change, and that was what made Margaery note the time she had been away from the khalasar. They were her herd, really; she had been with them for only a short time, but they were closer to her now than she thought of her family. She hadn't seen her family in even longer than she had seen River, or Daenerys -

Stomping her foot to cut off that train of thought, Margaery plodded through the forest, trying to figure out what to do with this day that had been given to her. She could try to shrink down and have some nectar, but the transformations were still painful, despite the time that had passed... It must have been from the knock to the head she had sustained during battle. Of course, she had stupidly run from the khalasar without seeking aid, and that was one thing that she regretted now. If something hadn't healed right, she might be stuck like this forever - transformations when she least expected them, and agonizing ones to boot. The very thought made her shiver, made her lungs fill with dread. Slowing down in her walk, Margaery eventually came to a halt, standing in the middle of a deer trail.

It's going to happen again, she thought. She could feel the panic growing, a shivering in her legs, and knew it would eventually turn into an uncontrolled spasm of transformation unless something distracted her. Every time this started, she tried to cope, tried to either slow it down or get it over with quickly, but there was never a cure, aside from absolute distraction. Taking deep breaths and praying that the Seven would bless her with lessened pain, Margaery bit her lip and waited.

Note: This is set after Roni's Winter is Coming plot - I hope that's okay. The rough outline is that Margaery knocks her head in battle and runs off after a confrontation with Dany. She has had sudden big/small flutter transformations since, as a result of the physical/psychological trauma. 83 This will be her wake up call that maybe things with the herd really weren't as bad as she thought after the battle.

Anyway, send in the Devanira distraction! XD

Devanira had spent her entire life hating herself and everyone else around her. Not once did she feel love for anything or anyone. Even her siblings were something she despised for getting better genes then her. She was always at war with herself. Her Cerynei side, what good was left in her, always would always try to justify something or she would feel like she was doing something wrong. Then her Skinwalker side, would constantly want to reek havoc and kill things. She was tired of the constant battle and with each day, the good that was left in her was slowly dying away. She had so much hate in her heart and there was nothing she could really do about it.

She dug her hoof into the ground under her feet the more she thought about how messed up her life was. She was so angry. So hateful towards everything and every time she thought she subdued that part of her, it would always come back. It would always be there lurking in her head. She wasn't crazy, she just wanted revenge on anyone she could get her teeth on.

Grinning at the thought of actually getting revenge on those that wronged her, she slowly began to walk through the forest feeling a little bit of an ego boost hit her. It wasn't much since she didn't think that highly of herself, but it was enough for the moment. That was until her ears perked up at the faint breaths of another in the area. She followed the sound until she found the source. It was a mare. She didn't look all that strong, but that was just from an observation standpoint. Maybe this was the kind of thing she was looking for. Maybe this was the outlet she really needed right now.

She kept her fangs hidden as she stepped forward revealing herself to the mare. If there was one thing Deva was good at, it was hiding who and what she was. She loved leading others on even though at the end she always seemed to fail at using them for her purposes. She never gave up trying in hopes of one day actually having some form of a success.

"Hello. Are you okay?" She asked in a fairly neutral voice. She wasn't going to hurt this mare just yet.

No, if things worked out well enough she was going to have herself some fun.

Opening her eyes - she must have closed them sometime during the agonizing wait for her transformation to strike - Margaery jumped as a brown mare appeared from nowhere... And though she was a doe not unlike herself, Margaery's flight instincts kicked in, and she scrabbled backward. Her legs, still weak from the pending transformation, nearly gave out before she caught herself half-kneeling on the ground. As her breathing elevated, her heart raced, and adrenaline shot into her veins, her body forgot that it had been doing something else, preparing for something else. And Margaery smiled at the mare, relief flashing over her features.

The Seven had sent her a distraction. A rather frightening distraction, but even with her appearance from nowhere, this mare was a distraction just the same. Straightening from the awkward position she had tripped into, Margaery adjusted her shoulders and hips so that her tabards fell right, the beads and coins clinking against each other as she tried to show her family's colors. Perhaps this mare was a traveler, and would know them - or perhaps she was a stranger, and Margaery would have a chance to tell her about a place that was a haven for the weary-hearted. "
I was not," she said, "but I find that I am fine now. Thank you for your concern." The response was sincere, genuine, polished - all of the things that her grandmother had taught her. She had been raised in the way of the princes and stewards before her, a courtier never at rest. One day, there would be a herd whose ways she would need to learn... But once she had found it, it had been ripped from her and been replaced with an aberration of the powers that her family prided themselves upon.

Despite the dark turn that her thoughts had taken, the smile upon Margaery's face stayed in place. She took a delicate, careful step toward the mare. One could never know another's personal boundaries until they were made clear, whether through words or body language. If this mare would want to continue their conversation, Margaery knew she had to take in everything she could about her appearance. Giving her as unobtrusive a scan as she could, Margaery noted everything she could about the mare. She was a quick study, but it did not appear, at least from the outside, that the mare was anything more than what she looked: a lone Cerynei doe, on her own in the wilds, just as Margaery was. Part of that struck her as odd - did Cerynei not tend to stay in herds? Indeed, did not the Soquili species as a whole tend to stay in herds? But, then again, she thought, I am the exception to the rule. The only thing that made her frown was the leather collar around her neck. Margaery had served Daenerys Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, and the khaleesi had taught her that none of her children should be chained, whether dragon or a member of the herd - or a member of any other herd. "
Are you all right?" she asked carefully in return, wondering if she ought to nod toward the mare's collar. That seemed too far a liberty; perhaps she only wore it as ornamentation? Either way, unless the mare told her she was beholden to someone against her will, Margaery could do nothing to help her. "Is there anything that I might be able to do for you?" The last question came out of habit; it was the routine question asked in Highgarden. What may I do for you? How might I help you? All were relics of a time when her family had been stewards and gardeners, but she did not resent them. They were all she had left, even if she could only visit them in her mind.
