On a lovely fall day, near the edge of the plains and the forest, a lovely, sweet tenor voice began to fill the air with song. The owner of the voice, a handsome and colorful stallion with long feathers on both head and tail, strode through the grass, his head lifted to let the words flow. His voice carried, for he had good breath control, and a powerful set of lungs.
"Near Banbridge town, in the County Down One morning last July Down a bóithrín green came a sweet cailín And she smiled as she passed me by. Oh she looked so sweet from her two bare feet To the sheen of her nut brown hair Such a coaxing elf, sure I shook myself To be sure I was really there."
His pure black eyes scanned the ground, the trees, and the grass as he moved, apparently looking for something, but not finding it. Every so often, he gave a side to side sort of dancing step, his wings fluttering at the motion.
"And from Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay And from Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the brown cailín That I met in the County Down"
He clearly didn't care who heard his song, carrying himself in a way that indicated he wasn't too afraid of anything. It might be from the apparent kalona heritage, shown in the sharp teeth that glinted as he sang, and the horns on his head... or perhaps his wings, that made it clear he could, if he must, fly off at need. It wasn't really clear what the reason was, but he definitely had confidence in himself. Perhaps, in the end, it was simply that he felt his singing mattered enough that he would not let fear stop him from enjoying it. However it worked out, he sang and walked strong.

Esmi was skittish by nature and when she heard singing in the distance, she felt her stomach tighten almost instantaneously. She didn't like the company of others and was afraid they were out to hurt her. In her mind, mostly everyone was out there to harm her. She didn't know why she felt this way or what made her start this fear she couldn't seem to shake, but it consumed her most of the time. She wasn't sure if she should follow the voice or fly away. Her mind was telling her the latter option was probably the best choice of action except there was one thing stopping her. The voice wasn't aggressive at all and it was more welcoming then anything. She didn't hear singing that often and it was intriguing. A part of her wanted to hear more of it and see who the individual was belting out those words with such a voice.
Putting her fear aside for the moment, she followed the sound until she came across the stallion. He didn't seem to have a care in the world or a fear of anything. He was pretty confident in his vocal abilities. It was something she certainly lacked and wasn't sure she would ever gain that kind of confidence again. She hid behind a bush to make sure she couldn't be seen that well. What if this stallion hurt her? What if he was like everyone else?
Feeling defeated once again from her own thoughts, the mare lowered her head.
"Umm....hello." She said in a soft voice not sure if the stallion would even see or hear her. He was singing strong so it was very unlikely.
She peeked through the leaves of the bush feeling her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for what might happen.

As he paused for a breath, Orfeo heard a soft hello. He blinked, startled, but beaming and turns towards the voice... To be confronted with what appeared to be a... a bush. He blinks at it for a very long moment, trying to decide between the possibilities. They seemed to consist of he'd lost his mind, maybe a familiar was in there, or MAYBE a small pony... Or the bush really was talking to him, which he suspected if he decided that it looped back to that first option. After considering the bush, and these slightly confusing thoughts, he finally took a deep breath... And caught the scent of a fellow soquili in there.
Well at least he hadn't gone insane. That WAS a relief. He pondered why the other was hiding from him. He didn't think of himself as all the scary, after all. But maybe he was missing something. He really didn't know others might find his teeth or horns scary, as they were just part of him in his head. "Ah... Hello there. Can I help you with something..." He paused, trying to decided how to address the other. He THOUGHT it was a mare, from the scent and the quiet voice, but you really never could tell these days, and he didn't wish to offend. Finally, he decided to try to sound a tad comedic with his choice, while also making it clear he wasn't mocking the other... Just being silly. "Oh fair bush-dweller?"

Esmi was a little scared just from being so close to the stallion, but when he began talking, it only made her feel even more uneasy. She didn't know what to do or say at first, so she just stayed put for a moment before slowly peeking her head through the bushes to get a better eye on him. She didn't want him sneaking up on her because then she would have to take flight away from him. "You don't have to help me with anything.." She said softly seeing immediately that he had features that resembled a kalona much like her. She was a mix of three breeds and didn't even know what was going on with her bloodline. She didn't mind it, but it always was a pain to push away that subtle thirst for meat. She never touched the stuffed and probably would never do it. It made her sick to even look at it.
"Um..just stay right there...don't come any closer." She said to him keeping her eyes locked on him. They were wide as if frightened of what he might or could do to her. She didn't want to cause any problems and honestly didn't even know if she wanted to talk with him right now. What if he hurt her? She backed up and shivered lightly at the thought. "Please just leave me be. I don't want any trouble and I don't want you to take advantage of me." She stated as she peeked her head through the bush one more time. She was frightened. She always was scared of everything.
She flicked her wings and slowly backed away hiding in the bush. She couldn't let him see her. Then he could find her and track her down. She couldn't have that happen.

Orfeo stopped moving, completely, and stared in utter confusion at the bush. "You don't want me to WHAT? Why on earth would I take advantage of you?" His face read complete, utter confusion. "Doing that would be unkind, and pointlessly cruel. I don't understand you at all. Have I offended, somehow?" He said this last bit in a very plaintive, sad tone. Offending or upsetting some one when he first met them? A low, that'd be, and one he couldn't afford as a bard. Bards were to entertain and amuse... And it's hard to do if he was angering people enough they'd want to chase him out of town all the time.
Figuratively speaking, anyways.
"I can stay here, no problem. I don't mind. I just was trying to be friendly. You greeted me, so... I figured I'd respond and offer assistance, just in case, perhaps, you were trapped in the bush. They can be very tangley at times, after all." He even stepped back two steps, so she could see his innocent expression, see he had no intent of harming her.
He hoped she could see it.
