It had started out as another regular day for Jack, and that had been a blessing after everything that had happened. While Chel's fate still weighed on him, he continued to push the thoughts at the back of his mind while he was out of his room and on the go; he already did enough brooding there anyway. He had been set on getting some jogging done in the cooler weather when the text arrived.

His first instinct was to tell the girl to ******** off. Spilling coffee on her hadn't been his fault: it was absolutely hers because she was so damn short, he couldn't have possibly seen her without literally craning his neck down, and he'd be damned if he did that every time he walked. If anything, the grievous waste of coffee was something she ought to be atoning for. And also for her genetic failure.

But the text mentioned Disneyland, and for the first time that actually had a vague appeal to Jack. Not the place itself, but having a free ride out of the island. It was October now: his leave had been refreshed and he had some more cash to spend. It wasn't the most useful way to spend his vacation hours, but Disneyland did have a few cool rides...and if anything, it'd let him take his mind off things.

Owain might or might not have swayed him as well. The giant's prods came in the form of a glaring, Either you go and pay your respects to the small one, or when you return to your room I will force us to discuss things. And he had been getting better at getting under Jack's skin about it lately.

So with a sigh, Jack put on clean clothes for the fall weather, snagged Chel's sunglasses just in case, and headed to the lighthouse to meet Shu at the appointed time, hoping she wouldn't prove to be another case of "small girl, big annoying personality."

<Stupid ghoul! Silly ghoul! That doesn't look like a Mr. Nice! I'd rather you find the Scythe Guy, the Drug Addict or even the Wooden Super Housewife, they seem less harmful.> The male voice snorted and chided as Shu walked on her way towards the portal, hands on the strap of the mini bag. "Z, that's rude, they are all nice people, and we're going to Disneyland, be happier." The girl in white and pink skipped and beamed like the nice weather.

<Really, I don't think I can find another person as stupid as you! Really! Who will not confirm with their partner before ordering the damn tickets AND not found out until today?! Tell me, who's the most stupid ghoul in the world?> "Okay, it's me. You're happy now, Zai Tai Sama" The petite girl paused her steps, turned around and made a face at no one. She wasn't do that on purpose, the puffed up Asian recalled what happened. She might make a mistake of not making sure any acquaintance was free, who know Mimsy and Robert would be out for external missions, who knows her best friend was out and everyone she knew seem busy on this fine day. She didn't want to waste the tickets, and she surely won't enjoy going alone.

It reminded her of her favourite newly bought sweatshirt, she was on her way to show Noemi it and stopped by the cafeteria, that was where the tragedy happened - someone split a cup of coffee on her. It was so hard to accept the dramatic change that she couldn't control her emotions and wanted him to compensate. So the grumpy face girl asked for his name and exited right away.

When she was helpless about the ticket, that guy popped into her mind. She had let it go but it won't be back to have him helping her? Thus, Jack received a "remember me?" message attached with the ruined sweatshirt.

<Eh?>

<.......>

<Tch. EH! I call you MANY MANY TIMES!>

Shu found herself stopped and stood on the small path leading to portal and tittered in abashment. She spaced out again. Luckily for just one minute.

Shu continued her way to the portal, trotting, one hand on bag's strap while one pressing her white beret.

<If you don't wanna fall, don't rush. If not - what's the jacking purpose you annoyed me to wake you up earlier than usual, silly?!> "Good morning, Mr. Hawthorn." The bright girl voice greeted the tall hunter. <I never understand why ghouls need so many times to dress up before they go out.>

"Are you ready to go?" Shu asked with a smile, walking closer to her partner and realized he was as tall as Robert. "Do you play basketball?"

What was it with little girls and dressing like dolls? Shu's outfit reminded him of something Abbi would wear, though at least she had the sense not to go out with, say, bunny-eared shoes. Jack had been prepared to be polite, but it gave way to a scoff at her first question.

"Christ, why does everyone assume that? Yeah I did, but God." Grumbling, he pocketed his hands into his coat pockets and gestured with his head for her to lead the way, it being her trip and all. "Morning yourself, little girl."

no problem! sorry i took a bit ;;

A doll? If Jack asked, Shu would honestly say it's just a proper wear to go out with someone. Unfortunately, the girl did have taste outside Jack's accepted range, like a pair of heels that hided a bunny underneath, she would find them cute. It was waiting to be discovered since her scope of taste was too wide.

"Because.......tall people normally play basketball? Were you in the school team?" The hunter arrived in a stylish handsome outfit that made Shu stared, a quick glance from top to bottom. He was probably the one who dressed most fashionable she ever seen, like those eye-catching male protagonists found in manga or anime - simply speaking 2D world.

Ever sometimes looked great, but most of the time he just wore what he feels comfortable. Similar to Jordan, he preferred something relaxed and cozy. Leslie - more like a hoodie person if Abbi not forcing him. Taym, if he looked healthier - Anyway, height is a factor also, but Shu felt something was off, as she peeked Jack again.

<Not Green.> The two thought in unison.

Shu picked out her phone quickly and slid her finger on the screen, squinted at twitter. All took only a few seconds to finish.

<Not Green.> They confirmed.

It didn't match with the tall forest style princess golem that braided Leslie's hair merrily. The petite Asian frowned, spent a while to update impression and image so that it didn't seem odd.

Bracing up herself, Shu went to talk with the portal operators, like a lost tourist and offered a thank you smile for their kindness answer. "I checked the map, but I never go to that Disney before. Honestly, I never go to places outside my birthplace." After a short pause, "Have you been to there before? Is it big? It's autumn time, the leaves are changing new golden and brown clothes. We don't celebrate Halloween, but I love those cute pumpkin and ghost decorations. Will your place celebrate it? If we're lucky, we might see some!" The Death huntress brightened up of her own thought, chirped like a happy excited little bird as they stepped out the portal.

A few skipping with a pretty 180 degree turn around, "Let's have an official introduction, Shu, intermediate from Death division, Asian. Thanks for coming today, I haven't been to amusement park since my birthday, few years ago. I hope today will be a great memory to me." The girl looked through the tall hunter, a point far far away behind him with a nostalgic smile.

Tall people normally play basketball. He rolled his eyes way too hard for that hour of the morning. "Yeah, I used to," he replied. "But no, haven't gone to Disney World before. I imagine it's decorated for Halloween if not Fall in general."

Where was his coffee? One mug before wasn't enough. Sighing, he followed Shu into the portal.

Even a little away from the main gates, he could hear the noises of visitors and rides alike. Jack o'lanterns and other miscellany Halloween decorations could be made out. It was cooler than normal in Florida, but the heat was still nothing to shake a stick at. Squinting in the bright light, Jack pulled out Chel's sunglasses and put them on. He wasn't interested in joining in the little girl's revelry, only in getting this over with. "Jack Hawthorn, Intermediate Life Trainee, also Asian. Third generation Korean to be exact." Death people always seemed to like the details.

He shrugged as far as her thanks was concerned; a visit off the island was always welcome, though he had to be careful not to spend his leave too much. He still honestly wasn't sure why he had agreed to this weird deal when he was still pretty sure it was Shu's fault the incident had happened to begin with. Friggen small people on Deus.

"Spoiler alert: good memories don't normally happen with me. But lead the way, I guess."

So, he was like her sister -

"Do you have any sports that you are bad in?"

"Make a guess? If you get that - we go to have dessert buffet without telling your sister?"

"So tempting! Hmm.......Volleyball?" "I think I'm quite good." "Badminton!" "...." "Ok, the smile means wrong again." "One more~ chance~" "C-Cycling?" "WRONG! Oh~ Dont's puff up your little hamster cheeks. For your trials, your consolation prize."

- Morning wasn't the perfect time to visit for the Halloween decorations, but there were less queues line up. "Maybe it would be different this time? So you can speak in Korean? It's happy to know there are more Asian hunters on the island than I expected." That was unexpected - Jack didn't like the type that never have girlfriend and wasn't Disney one of the hot dating spots? Anyway, she decided to use Plan B. Just created right now. <....Whatever.>

Waving back at Jack with smile to tell him move faster, Shu went to the entrance to grab a site map, opened it and took a good look. There was a Chinese one, but English one would be better for both of them. "Wow, it's much bigger than I thought....FOUR parks?!" She looked at Jack in confusion. "Em....er- we are HERE! The main street -" No. No! Shu felt herself like the ant on a hot pan, the big map that can cover her whole face made her wanna cry.

He shrugged and doubted nothing bad would happen. Even in the supposedly happiest place on earth, something would find its way in he was sure.

"Somewhat," Jack replied, following still at his casual lope in spite of the encouragement to go faster; his legs were pretty long and ate up distance even then. "Haven't needed to speak it since I left home. I can read it a little better. Not that it really matters at Deus."

After Shu grabbed a map, he leaned over, unintentionally providing shade from the sun, and squinted at it over his sunglasses. "s**t, I forgot how big the place is, yeah..." He tugged the map a little higher once she looked to him with confusion, perusing the locations. "Let's just stick to one place for this, okay? I don't have nearly enough leave to handle all four. Your choice where."

Different from Jack, Shu was always optimistic about things, she was a girl that loves dreaming. The petite girl agreed with what the tall hunter said. On the island, there wasn't many chances for her to speak Chinese. If not her partner was a beast coming from Chinese myths, she might end up like Jack's situation. Not speaking mother language for years, it's funny.

Shu's hand were holding the map, tip-toed until it was out of her limit, she let go of it. The petite girl docilely nodded, drilled smoothly into the space between Jack and the map, riveted seriously. "Hmm....I want to try the Haunted Mansion Ride because it's near Halloween, and then.... I wanna go to take pictures with princesses! I know, let's go to this one." She resolutely pointed to Magic Kingdom, where they stood right there and beamed with excitement and sparkles.

The, she blinked her eyes at Jack, who seemed to have a tired face. "Are you feeling sleepy?" It was early in the morning and she knew Life hunters (Mainly Mimsy and Robert to be honestly) sometimes need to work overnights. "You are a pretty panda today", that was how she joked of the tall Life hunter who she always imagined as a big bear or dog.

"No, just too much sun," Jack replied cryptically as he straightened and pushed his sunglasses up. But he could accept the choice: one, because Shu had made it quickly, thank God; two, while anything Disney should not be associating with the idea of being titled "Haunted" or "Scary" anything (sullying true horror name), he had to wonder what exactly constituted it here.

Plus, maybe if they lingered in the mansion for a long enough while, he could get out of princess photo taking. Or he could take a few, send some Lina's way in a completely petty and satisfying gesture. Hell, he could just send a text at this point: Guess who went to Disney World and got a photo with Belle, you stupid double-crossing b***h?

"Come on."

He kept a brisk walk and assumed Shu would jog to keep up just fine the whole way through the Magic Kingdom's entrance.

super sorry for the wait and lame reply! you can time skip to them finding the mansion unless shu wants to stop them somewhere else first!

Too much sun? She tilted her head and looked up the sky with the bright sun, squinted and made the conclusion: yup, gladly she put on sunscreen. The girl shone by the strong sunlight blinked until the shadows in her eyes went away, she quickly took a few pictures of the halloween decorations before she scooted over to catch up the tall guy.

Like someone first visit an old-history castle, the girl wasn't walk along side Jack, but turned around to spot out things worth a photo. A mickey pumpkin wreath here, a pile of pumpkins with funny smiling faces with fake autumn maple leaves there, the garden with mickey face with seasonal flowers and the dressed pumpkins above the banner of the lovely Mad Hatter shop, etc. There were too many distractions on their way to the destination.

Look! She found some halloween posters with the Villains! Shu concentrated to adjust the screen and took pictures of them, when she looked up for the tall figure with black jacket and long panels of denim, he wasn't there. That cause a tiny panic within the girl, she twisted her head to go left and right, jogged intensely towards the main straight path and halted at the Statue with splits.

Shu scooted over the four paths in anti-clockwise direction, peeking the furthest she could for Jack. With the map on his hand, she couldn't locate where she was. Get lost in such a big place like a kid wasn't what she wanted, the panic struck at her was enormous. Her hands squished the faux leather shoulder strap of her bag, twisted it into spiral to ease part of flurry, her eyes rolled busily inside the sockets.

To her fortune, she made out a back that looked like who she was finding afar one of the paths. She dashed for her hope and patted that person from behind -

- A gentle sigh of relieve.

From their angle, she could see a structure in white and greyish brown, accented with orange circular objects on its roof. To make the pat less weird and gave it a fake intention, "Is that the Haunted Mansion?" she pointed at the structure and asked.

While Jack acted like every stop annoyed him, he did snap a few photos himself--well, after he realized Shu had found it and they had nearly separated, and after a little glaring at her for being so damn short and easy to miss. No vacation was complete without him getting annoyed somehow--just like his old family ones. He almost got a little nostalgic right then and there.

But instead, Shu found her shoulder had a nice firm grip on it, the closest he could get for now to putting her on a leash.

"Yeah," Jack answered as he pushed his sunglasses up and peered at the building. "There's some Nightmare before Christmas stuff going on in there, I think. Or there better be; I didn't come here near Halloween for the ******** Disney part." Said the one who was literally in Disneyland. "Head there, or did you find something else while you were busy getting lost?"

Short isn't a fault, when you don't given enough nutrients in adolescence. There she was - in an amusement park again, after that day. She didn't use to get lost in the crowd in the past, she did when she woke up from that cold pod, there were no warm smiling faces awaited against what she wished for. There was no hand holding hers for direction.

"-For this reason, if we don't have someone to hold hand with ███, she's getting lost. This adorable girl we've here loves to space out though what is her little mind is too cute to resist" Teased bya voice with a hint of cosseting flavour.

"Getting lost isn't something to busy for. BUT - I find some cute pumpkins, posters and ornaments," the girl pouted then beamed. The grip on shoulder baffled Shu, fortunately the queue wasn't long on weekdays and soon they found themselves inside of the building. Shu wasn't surprised because at her homeland, there was Motion Theater. People's chatter, the voice-over resounded in the confined space all piqued her curious heart. It was surely noisy and hard to follow, but she was very concentrated to blend herself into that setting.

<'Twas a long time ago
Longer now than it seems
In a place that perhaps
That you've seen in your dreams.
For the story that you are about to be told
Began with the holiday worlds of old.
I know you're curious
To see what's inside.
It's what happens
When two holidays collide.
>

They went from one room to another.

<- So relax and reflect, feel free to take pause
While we tell you the tale about dear Sandy Claws

'Twas the nightmare before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was peaceful, not even a mouse-
>

"Hmm, did he just say 'sandy claws'? Ohhhh Nightmare before Christmas! I saw that movie a long while, have you watched that before? I remember the name of the Pumpkin King is -" The petite girl looked upwards to the guy sharing the same name, but promptly covered her ears against the sharp glass-breaking sound effect. The little bunny in her heart jumped up, ow, that was something.

The scrolls at the Stretch Room were impressive and seemed ever-lasting. "Mr. Hawthorn, I only met with a horseman, does the Halloween habitats look like how this is perceived? Ah, I do remember I met a Cheshire Cat." The narrator tried his best to act terrifying, but the effect was minimal, he even made evil laughter.

Shu's reaction was a blink with smiles, thinking he had done a very good job. Boarding their ride comfortably (Shu insisted that that was their sleigh), her eyes never stopped being sparkly. They were said to be cute more than scary, she swung her phone left and right hectically to capture some of them. Shu wanted to show Noemi and her friends how awesome it was.

The sleigh slowed down when bells could be heard, the girl gave a gentle pat to Jack to ask: "What they're doing?" It looked like something she saw in western movies but she wasn't sure. Seance - something unfamiliar for an Asian. "She's doing something rhythmical, like a poem, but it reminds me of the song Twelve Days of Christmas, LaLaLa-LaLaLa-LaLa-LaLaLaLaLa~lala-la-lala-lalalala."

medigel
See if you wanna write something about the ride? If not, you can skip time and said they got out of the mansion.

The narrator's voice fell into the background for a moment as he took in the scenery around them. If there was a ride that would nullify his annoyance,

Remember, if you would, the drooping doe eyes post-coffee date, the shine of her lips dulling now that her chapstick has been defeated, the warmth accommodating itself through layers as if there had been nothing at all, the hand that swings yours like a child, the soft voice full of wonder. "You really think they'd say yes?"

"It's not like we'll be doing worthwhile anything this summer. Couldn't hurt to ask."

      "That'd be amazing..."

She lights up and you can't help but smile through your scoff, the pretense of being an adult about this slowly fading away like it always does when she infects you with it.

"Maybe you'll finally get to swap Cosmo tips with your princess friends or something. Figure out how Belle handles a beast in the sheets so we can--"

She laughs and whines at the same time to interrupt you and shoulder bumps you. "Oh my God, Jack, no--"

even momentarily, it would be this one.

"Sweetheart, that movie is my life," Jack replied without taking his eyes off the interior design, a ghost of a smile on his face. It was taking a surprising amount of effort not to sing along under his breath, but he did sway just the tiniest bit to the music--and take some discrete photos and recordings himself. "I've only been there once myself, and frankly they're even weirder than what humans think. This is a good base to start on, I guess."

He looked up from the screen as the bauble with the woman's head began chanting and rolled his eyes as Shu joined in, nudging her in hopes of making it stop. "They're just Halloweenifying the Christmas song and throwing in witch graphics. Hush, the guy's hard to hear as it is."

Meegane
many apologies for lateness @@ feel free to timeskip them if you want!

"I hope they make more that's comparable to Nightmare before Christmas, it's so great!" There they were having a back and forth conversation, that was a good start. The ride was fun and she had a great time sparkled by all the props and lighting. "It wasn't bad, better than I thought." It wasn't anything close to the word scary but definitely worth the time. "Halloweeners. They born under our imagination of fear, right? I should get on a student golem and explore more, Haunted House is a bit too dangerous with horsemen-" Not knowing how much he listened through the ride, the girl just talked in quiet voice.

Getting themselves out the sleigh, their next goal was to grab princesses and take photo. Shu was looking at map when a family passed by distracted her, pulling her into the past. "Dad, I wanna see....." Sounds muted, like someone turned down the volume. Things slow down and discolored, tarnished. It was no longer Disneyland from her sight, but a nameless amusement park.

Several hands holding a map, the petite girl reached up in the middle of hands to peek at the route. "This way." A tanned female finger traced a meandering path.

"Nah, it'll further away from our destination" a young male voice argued, then the tanned hands reached to stretch the face of the owner of male voice. "Ah...is it this mouth dare to rebut me?" The owner of the tanned hand menaced.

"How old are you two?" A softer female voice joined in the drama, a pair of beautiful slender hands put on the head of the two quarreling. A short hair tall lady with tanned skin crossed her arm in front of her chest, squinting against the boy wearing a pair of black framed glasses in front of his blue eyes. The boy was rubbing his pinched reddish cheeks, tears accumulated but not dropping.

The petite girl looked up, giggled happily to her family. The female with the soft voice turned around with a warm tender smile, "Just a while, we'll figure out which way is to see the penguins." The girl not older than the young male beamed, looking at the fun quarrel continued.

She didn't mind it.

She didn't mind it really.

"Who's your favourite princess?" Shu suddenly asked, hands reached out to request the map. There were two choices, to go to the one closer to them or go for their favourite first. Shu's target was to take photos with all of them, it was hard to get a whole day leave and ticket weren't inexpensive, she would do as much as she can with the little magical pass she obtained.
