The Fire had long since died in the lands, but the one inside the mare continued to burn as she rested in the heated safety of her home. She could feel the turning of her stomach. She had to do some more hunting. the hard part of this cooling weather meant it was harder for her to hunt for food. She hated leaving the heat of her lava.
The sleeping creature stirred and moved from her nap, standing she stretched those wings, walking to the edge of the cliff that looked down into the lava hole below. After a few warming moments she kicked off and was in flight, once again in search of something small to eat.
Those piercing eyes scanned the ground, the dyeing colors of the leaves were new. She was from a warm climate, where there was no snow, and no changing of the leaves to the coming winter. What shock would this creature be in when she sees her first strands of falling snow on the land. Blind to the coming cold she swooped down, closer to the ground, eyes focused on scanning her surroundings. There was much large game, scattered on the ash lands that were slowly trying to bloom new. There were burnt trees and fresh shrubs fighting to gain themselves before the frost choked them away.
She had spotted something move along the ground around part of the surviving forest, it was a rabbit that had yet to spot her and was simply hopping around on its own little way. She circled once before coming in for a dive, those claws wrapped around the creature, carrying it away into a near by bush to munch on her 'lunch.'

Unlike some Colonel actually loved the fall, it was just the winters afterward that were sometimes rough particularly now that he had gotten up in years. Some winters he went home, back closer to Kawani lands, and he might yet this year as well though it was still a bit early to leave. He had returned out of curiosity, wanting to see how the area had recovered after the fires. It was nice to see that things were trying to bloom again despite the lateness of the season. It would make for a wonderful spring, once the snows melted. He would have to return then to watch the land truly come back to life. So many animals were great to see as well, though they paid him no mind and continued about their business since he was not the meat eating sort. (He had met some who were and was not one to judge. Everyone had their preferences.)
But seeing the land's progression on rejuvenating itself had not been his sole reason for coming here. Colonel had returned in hopes of catching a glimpse of the mare that had saved him from what very well could have been certain death. As time went on he started to wonder if he had dreamed her up to cover the trauma of getting out of the fire. He had asked those he met afterward and they had not heard of such a mare, practically shaped from the flames themselves. She was real, his mind had reasoned, they had spoken at length as she guided him to safety. Surely he had not dreamed all of that up?
Besides asking about that mare in particular - Vesta was the name his memory supplied - he had asked others if they had seen anything even remotely similar. The answer to that had been a resounding no, and a few of them even looked at him as if old age was startling to addle his brain. A kind few offered to pass along any news the next time he returned to the area, for which he thanked them before heading on his way.
Colonel passed through the area shortly after the mare he sought dived, caught her prize and ventured off to eat it. He paused a short ways off from where she had temporarily secluded herself and turned to look at the mountains. Had she said she lived up on higher ground? He snorted softly, trying to remember. It seemed a reasonable assumption given she had wings. That could prove to be a problem, since he was not much for climbing in rough terrain.

The creature finally moved out of the bushes, licking the last bits of her meal from her lips when she spotted the stallion. She was not exactly herself since they had last met. She had changed, worry set deep in her eyes and she seemed almost lost at the same time. She glanced up at the larger stallion, her head cantering off to the side before straightening back up. "You are the one from the fire no?" She asked him, her wings settling along her frame as she moved in a little closer.
She indeed lived in the mountains, a volcano at that, it was where she kept herself warm from the cooling temperatures. She shook a bit of ash from her legs as a few flicks of flame pulled from the bits of her legs. "It has been some time, I take it old age has not yet caught the better of you." She almost teased before she shook her head, looking around. She was still in longing and miss of her baskets that were stolen from her not to long ago. These thoughts and longings kept her pretty distracted.
Her tail feathers spread slightly as she flicked her ears up then pulled them back along her skull and glanced back at the older larger stallion. She spread her wings slightly, flicking the soft feathers of those long wings. It was as if her body refused to set still, between worry and cold she was not quite normal.

The sound of the bushes rustling caused his ears to perk and when Colonel turned to see what it was, suddenly she was there as if he had summoned her by thought alone. Which was fairly preposterous really. "I am." It seemed he wasn't senile and crazy after all. And if he had anything to say about that it would be many many years before he was. Take that naysayers!
"No, I am not dead just yet." The attempt at humor was appreciated and he was amused, at least until he got a better look at Vesta.
He did not need his years of life experience to tell that something about the mare had changed from their last meeting. There had been a certain air of pride about her before and that, as well as her flames, seemed literally and figuratively diminished at present. Not to mention all the uneasy fidgeting. Such things generally did not add up to anything good. "Did something happen to you?"
He had a feeling he knew what the answer would be, though not the exact circumstances. What, or who, could have caused this?

The mare looked over the larger stallion, giving him a weak smile, that quickly faded once he asked her what had happened. She straightened herself, flushing out her feathers as she shook her head. "Nothing important has happened really." She was just to suborn and closed to actually express how she felt, mostly with someone who she hardly knew. "It is good to see that you are alive though." She shook a bit of ash from her legs before she moved in a little closer, close enough to show off the height difference.
The small mare hated her height, there was few smaller then her, but then again, most under estimate her as well because of how small she looks. Most of all, she was also becoming frail, having not eaten much, and hiding away in her volcano did not help one bit.
She shook her head, softening the feathers and shaking them from her face. She looked around herself for a moment, the cool air nipped at her whole being. She had no idea just how cold it would get in these lands, and this would likely be a small meeting, but she could talk if he was willing to walk with her as she regained a bit of her strength. "Would you like to walk with me? I can not stay to long, my home beckons me, and the cold chills my bones." She said as she turned and started a slow walk towards the mountains in the short distance.
mistalina13 Sorry it has taken so long.. Irl hit me rather hard lately and I can hardly find time to get on to reply, but I should pick back up in response time soon, if you are willing to continue.

Colonel might have been larger in stature than her in this moment, but it certainly had not seemed that way the last time they met when she was cloaked in fire, smoke and ash nurtured by the elements that shaped her. And now...she cloaked herself for protection. Whatever happened must have been bad indeed for her to seem so diminished. She had saved his life and he could do no less than to be a shoulder for her now.
He nodded and started after her when she moved ahead. "Yes. I can certainly do that. I did come back to find you after all." What would she think of that, he wondered? "I am glad you were not some terror dream. Had you been I might really be some kind of mad old man after all." He laughed a little at that.xXToxicIllusionsXx Whoo. And only 3 months late?

The small phoenix moves alongside the larger male, her eyes looking more at her feet then ahead of her for a moment, that is until she found the strength to actually lift her head to glance at the mountains in the distance. She then glanced over at the larger older male with a half twisted head.
"So the poor old timer came out here just for me hmm?" She said with a half heartened smirk. It actually felt good to talk to someone for a change since she had been cooping herself up in that cave all by herself. She she would tease him further. "Them bones still let you walk all this distance?" She almost laughed before she headed off in the way towards home, soaking in the cold of winter to come that seemed to make the licks of fire dim and flicker in faint bursts rather then the thick that normally raised from her leg.
"Then, I have no reason to tease, the cold seemed to effect me more then and old lady ringing her hands behind a frosted window." She did laugh some that time, almost lightening up a bit. "Being of plant and flame, both seem to suffer much in the cool of fall and winter."
mistalina13 Looks like e are both all over the place with this rp lol sweatdrop But lets hope irl evens out for me.

"Is it so hard to believe that someone would come looking for you?" He laughed at the coment about old bones, some days it almost felt true, even more so once the bitterest cold of winter set in. It was good to hear her laugh in turn, even if it wasn't quite a true laugh of merriment yet it was a start. "I hope, for your sake, it is a mild winter then - or else that you have good shelter."
Plant and flame? Truly? It made a lot of sense, looking at her in that context. That made her...what was that word? Ulun'suti. Something as much an elemental as truly soquili. He followed along after her, studying what he could see of her with curious interest. Her kind were rather rare, he suspected, since in all his years he had never seen her like - that he knew of anyway.
"What brought you out so far in this chilling weather?" A basic need likely, but it was a decent spot to keep the conversation going.xXToxicIllusionsXx *drags muses out of pit* No worries if you don't wish to keep this one going. I'm just trying to work through writing block.
