Lex's pace and posture steadily heightened as he approached the door of his boss' right hand, figuring that the Doctor wouldn't have time for something this trivial in the grand scheme of things. Mary would do just fine, approval wise.
He rapped on the door with the back of his knuckles, composing his expression to pure business and no hints of fatigue or stress.
This would go swimmingly.

The door, unlocked, swung open to reveal a fairly empty office. On the desk was a little handwritten sign. Quote: If you need the assistant, just dial 4-2! biggrin Have a nice day!
Fortunately for Lex, Mary passed by a few moments later and, seeing the younger man, gave a broad smile. "Hey, Lex right? You need something?"

Lex would have been very displeased had Mary not shown up when he did. The younger man gave the new assistant a small smile, shaking his hand firmly. "Yes, Lex Jamil. I don't think we've formally met, Mr. Worth." Ever mindful of his manners, even when exhausted - at least in front of his superiors.
"I just wanted to hand you these documents. For the college project I proposed - I believe I've found the perfect location. Indiscreet, enough of an online attendance to make us unknown." Lex stated, intently handing a folder to the man."I figure the Doctor doesn't need to be bothered with a trainee's ideas."

"Yeah, he's a busy guy," Mary grinned and raised his eyebrows suggestively. Busy today likely meant little involving actual work. He took the folder and browsed through it, "Looks good, looks good. I was figurin' like, you guys would want a computer lab for this. Place where the trainees without their own computers and set up without waiting for a library computer, right? We can set it up for daily data packet transfers, not the quickest, I know, but better than weekly or worse."

Lex nodded along in agreement with the man, clasping his hands behind his back while Merry went on. Surprsingly, Lex hadn't even considered a separate area for those interested. "Yes, I think that would be perfect. It would certainly help monitor as well, make sure that some of the more tech savvy trainees and Hunters aren't taking advantage of a proxy server through a class forum or any other sort of misconduct."
Lex paused for a brief second, then continued. "Has the Doctor given any indication to the funds for the project?"

With a small, pained look, Mary gave Lex a companionable shoulder grip. "Just come up with a list of what you need. I know you won't be shady or unreasonable 'bout it. Give me a week and the funds will be there."

Lex nodded, ducking out from Merry's grip. "Yes, sir. List will be on your desk in the morning." He assured before walking away, the conversation obviously over.

What Mary would find on his desk the next morning was a list filled to the brim with neat handwriting that was obviously come from a man more rested than the one who'd written on the yellow notebook sheets in the manila folder he'd been given the day previous. Some of the items were unnecessary, some all too simple to find. Lex apparently thought this project needed to a full blown study hall and not just a dank lab he would only use. List - 6 laptop computers - Sofa, 4 seater, black - Loveseat, black - Bookcase & Textbooks + Other readings - Nonfiction, Historical Biographies, Popular Journalism, Tabloids - DVD Player + Projector - Filmed interviews involving monster sightings - Ghost Hunters + other related viewings - "White Chicks", "She's Just Not That In To You", "50 First Dates" , etc. - Vending Machines, rigged to dispense free snacks + drinks - Coffee Bar - Espresso Machine - Keurig Coffee Maker - Keurig Pods - Creamers - Notepads - x5 50 ct. Bic Pen, black - x10 120 page Composition Notebook - HP Printer, newer models pref - x6 Mahogany Writing Desks - x6 Desklamps - x 50 10ct boxes blank white printer paper, 220 wt, - Tissues - Blankets Of course, Lex knew certain things would be vetoed. He'd added some as a joke, others as serious concerns. The lifer remembered his college days and all the finals cramming that led to many a catnap on a library couch, or the burning need for a strong cup of joe that was half espresso half Irish Cream. Lex hoped Mary would understand, the same way one hoped their aunt doesn't just give them another giftcard for Christmas that year- futile.
Still, Lex had cause to celebrate. His first proposed idea during a semi annual meeting was three quarters of the way done. Two years he'd been om this island, and he was finally contributing. It felt good, like the satisfaction one gets from volunteering to play at the local SPCA chapter. He went to the shack humming after dropping off the list, smiling regardless of Ami's attitude of the day. She had her Demons, her libraries. He had his schooling, and hopefully soon his own actual office. Maybe he'd install a fancy scotch library, or just have a bunch of portraits hung around.
Maybe, a small part of the Las Vegas native though, maybe he should just get some more sleep and not plan so far in advance. The education would sate him for the moment, give him something more to do at least.
Another part, the green kingdom bit, said he'd still be cooped up. He needed to do more, be out more. How could he truly contribute if all the man did was sit behind closed doors and read books. Knowledge was to be put in to action, after all.
