“What happened?” She brushed the woman’s bangs back, touching her face and down to her throat. Pulse, still strong.
“Patrolling outside the forest. There’s been some negaverse signatures we didn’t know..” The dark mirror looked over at the two captains who nodded, “And we went to investigate. Separated to cover more ground. They got her before we could regroup. Raid.” She grimly looked down at the wound that was seeping through the girl’s fuku. A flesh wound? Fai had no idea, and she wasn’t one to know anything about medical. Drake was gone on his own patrols and She hadn’t seen Chariklo in awhile. The right thing was to take the senshi to the order hospital but...but she didn’t know how they’d treat her since she was an obvious resident of the Safe haven.
“Keep some pressure on her wound okay? I’ve got someone to call…” Fai hurried to her house phone, dialing a number she had memorized due to the particular senshi’s alignment AND her abilities to heal, whether in senshi form or civilian.
The phone connected through, ringing until said woman picked up.
“Hannah? It’s Fai, Are you busy?”
Bouncing between the camps and Headquarters as much as she had been, Hannah had been left feeling quite fatigued as of late, something she tried her best to hide but it seemed more and more friends were catching on. No matter, the periwinkle haired girl answered the phone as politely and mentally ‘awake’ as possible. However by the sound of Fai’s voice, Hannah grew concerned that this was not a ‘hi how are you doing’ kind of phone call.
“No,” she replied cautiously. “Not at the moment. I just got done helping out a patient at the Oasis. Are you okay?” The poor woman on the other side of the phone seemed… concerned; maybe worried would be the better way to describe her tone. Either way it clearly wasn’t joyous. The effects of this war had on Hannah had taken long since taken its toll on her as she instinctively reached into her side bag and wrapped her hand around her henshin pen just incase her gut was right and she needed to power up because someone needed help.
“Thank goodness, I’m really sorry to bother you.” She could hear the others getting a little more agitated, a little more panicky as she spoke. “But...But I’ve got an injured White moon senshi on my dining room table and I have no one in the house to heal her or even stitch up her wounds.” She felt just a little sick, thinking of someone stitching flesh with needle and thread, and wasn’t sure if she should equate it to her sudden reaction due to pregnancy that made her more nauseated or because she never really handled blood and wounds well in general. “I’d have one of our dark mirror bring her over too but I’m terribly afraid of moving her. Do you...I’m so sorry to take you from the hospital but do you think you could come to the refugee?” She clutched the phone tight, “I can get a dark mirror to come get you if you need…” Even in the moment of panic, she was polite. What if Hannah was suddenly called away? She hated taking help from the Oasis but Hannah, with her neutrality was one of the few Order senshi that Fai trusted. But the one on her table needed help and Fai was willing to pull any resource to keep the woman alive and healthy. “I’m sorry Hannah, really, I hope this isn’t a bother…”
“It’s okay Fai, let me power up. Tell the Dark Mirror Senshi I’ll be in the back alley on 8th and Cherry. There is a full length mirror out behind the antique shop.” Far enough away from the Oasis as to not cause panic should a chaos aura pop out of seemingly nowhere; but not so far that it would put her in danger running out on her own. “Don’t worry okay? I’ll be there in a few minutes, just make sure that you apply pressure to the wounds to stymie the blood flow till I can get there.”
Fai nodded, bobbling her head with the phone and trying to hold back the panic again. Breathe. She just needed to breathe. “I’ll be sending my friend Orion, She’s the Dark mirror. Yes okay. Please be safe Hannah, I’ll see you soon.” She left the room, returning to the dining room and looking at the dark mirror that had been part of the patrol.
“Don’t worry I will” With that she hung up the phone.
Ever thankful for the fact that she always kept a first aid kit in her sid bag, Hannah withdrew her henshin pen and powered up within the safety of HQ. For a moment she set her bag down so it didn’t disappear once she powered up, then spoke the words softly “Acrucis Eternal Star Power, Make up.” A wash of power then filled her being as her civilian clothes were once more replaced by her layered fuku and on her back the marks which identified her as a transcendent glowed a light blue hue.
Using the speed granted to her as an Eternal Senshi, Acrucis grabbed her bag and took off as quick as possible, neglecting to check with the guard or watch. Hands stretched out before her, the Senshi of Prayer summoned her gyroscope watching intently as a double check that someone outside her aura sensing range wasn’t around to spot her. Had this been a night for patrol, if a beam should appear, she would run off to go help the individual; but now… she was needed elsewhere and there was no time to wander off as she made her way to the specified location.
“Can you pick up Sailor Acrucis from 8th and Cherry, There’s a dark mirror there. She’ll help, but you have to move quickly.” Fai’s hands shook as she took over the towel Orion had been holding to Eridanus, the white court senshi on her table. “Don’t stay too long, keep your aura as masked as you can Orion…” Fai bit her lip, “Be safe.” Orion nodded again, taking to the mirror they had placed in one of the upstairs room.
The dark mirror would retrieve Acrucis, bringing her to the refugee in a timely manner and thankfully soon enough, as Fai’s nerves were starting to short. Eri was losing too much blood, it felt like too much blood. She could smell rust and copper that was unique to blood and her hands could feel the warm liquid seeping through the towel and she could feel her eyes glazing. Don’t be sick, she had to remind herself. She had seen wounds before, she had wounds of her own. But nothing as large and serious like this. The minute Acrucis would get in the room, was the minute Fai’s already weak knee’s would start to give, the only thing keeping her up was the pressure she needed to apply to Eri’s wound.
“Acrucis.” Fai breathed out, “Help?”
Wide blue eyes fell upon her pale haired friend the moment she stepped into the sanctuary. With haste the senshi of prayer closed the distance between them and placed her hand on Fai’s back. “It’s okay, I’ll take it from here.”
Blood… so much blood. Had this of been a time six years in the past, the sight before her would have been too much; now, thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Sure there were times that she felt the blackness seep into her consciousness or the uneasy nervous feeling threatening to expel lunch (or dinner in this case) from her system.
Instead of surveying the situation like she should have, Acurics allowed Failyn to remove her hands and applied pressure in her place. “You have two minutes to gather anyone here that may require any kind of physical healing.” Emphasis on the word any was key since there was no use in allowing her eternal attack go off without maximizing the number of people who could potentially benefit from it. “Two minutes.” Her tone was gentle yet firm. Her friend seemed shaken perhaps but time was of the essence by the looks of it, and the poor senshi on the table needed aid sooner rather than later.
“Thank goodness, thank you.” Fai breathed out as she felt the gentle hand on her back, her hands loosened on the towel, her head turning to give Arurics a watery and weak smile. “I’ll have them gathered.” Anyone? She didn’t have many with serious injuries. She nodded to the two captains and to Orion, “Please get Tiffany, Gabriel and the twins.” She rubbed her forehead, “hurry hurry.” While they did that, she selfishly went to the kitchen, attached to the dining room and ran water over her hands, the red didn’t seem so red in water. It looked pink as it drifted down the drain. One minute. She could hear the shouting, the clamber of feet. Soon the dining room was full of people with minor injuries, all looking at Eri on the table. There was voiced concerns, worries, anger...
“Shh everyone.” Fai returned, resting her hand on her stomach as she rejoined the room. She was worried that magic would mess with her pregnancy, which is why she tended to stay away from it, but Arurics was healing, so if anything, it’d be best to stay. Added to that...she couldn’t leave Eri now.
“That’s everyone, yes, okay.” Fai moved to Orion’s other side, taking Eri’s hand and rubbing it. It felt so cold, but she could see the rise and fall of Eri’s breath. Still alive but not for much longer. The blood loss? Fai wondered why she thought it was something as simple as a flesh wound. It was terrible that she ran the refugee but had no medical knowledge or thought to even keep someone here in case of emergencies.
All the worries and doubts played on her face as she looked up to her fellow pale haired friend and nodded. “Ready when...when you are Arurics…”
With a rueful smile the senshi nodded her head once and closed her eyes. Just for a few seconds she removed her hands and the towel from the senshi’s wound so she could watch and make sure it healed fully. Raising her now bloody soaked hands, Acrucis put her palms together in prayer and whispered her attack now that all were gathered in one room “Prayer of Redemption” * From where she stood an area of effect etched itself on the floor, unencumbered by objects that may be in the way, marked by a crux rune that glowed a gentle yellow hue.
Through partially opened eyes the Senshi of Prayer watched the gash across the poor senshi closed slowly as agonizing seconds passed. Despite it taking less than a minute to heal severe injuries such as these, there were often times she wished her abilities were immediate.
The room remained silent till the light in the room cast by her eternal attack dissipated. Unlike several senshi she had met in the past, using her abilities did not leave her drained allowing her to press on without the worry of fatigue. Now that the bleeding has stopped and the wound had been completely healed; Acrucis turned her attention back onto her friend “Fai?” her tone was gentle as to not jar the poor woman “Can you, or someone, get some clean towels and warm water so I can clean her up. I’ll also need a pair of sewing shears and a set of clean clothes; oversized pajamas preferably.” Blessed be the fact that it would be a fuku she was removing and the garment would be like new once the senshi powered up again… if she powered up again.
“Unless you have means for a transfusion, the most we can do for her now is to keep an eye on her and let her rest. Once I have her mostly cleaned up and re-dressed I’ll need help moving her onto a couch or a bed which ever you have available.” Unfortunately the hard part was not yet over as they were still faced with the dangers associated with blood loss. “Do you have an IV we can set up with some saline?” She asked, something to keep her hydrated and account for the volume lost in transit from the initial attack. If not Acrucis would have to ask to be taken back to the Oasis so she could get some much needed materials.
To say in the least, Acrucis power was beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Fai had seen it from a distance maybe once or twice, but to be a part of it? She held Eri’s hand tight as the wound slowly closed itself, the blood easing away, the pain on her face melting away into a more serene expression. Everyone in the room who had injuries looked brand new, okay well not brand new but as if the injuries never happened. Once the prayer was over, Fai ushered them out, besides Orion who refused to leave, only to fetch what Acrucis asked for.
“I’ll get the warm water…” Fai rushed back into the kitchen, filling a large pot with it and carefully walking back in with it. She pulled out one of the chairs and set it there for her, as Orion returned with towels, shears, a large pair of pajama’s from one of the guys, clean of course.
“N...No means of transfusion.” Fai’s eyes widened, “O..Or IV. I...I didn’t think we needed something like that…” She should’ve, and should’ve expected more things like this to happen, but she had been naive and terribly distracted with the needs of everyone to think of basic things. “Sh..do...should...I’m sorry, Do you need somebody to take you back to Oasis for that supplies?” Fai’s gaze fell on Orion again, wondering if the dark mirror could muster up another visit. If not, she could call on Drake..or...one of the others. Her hands clutched in her skirt, the obvious disappointment in her own powerlessness to protect someone under her roof effecting her greatly. She hated that ugly side of doubt and self defeat. “If I could power up, I’d go and get them myself but...the baby…”
“It’s okay” Acrucis offered her a half smile then skirted around the table to wash the blood from her hands with scalding water and soap; no doubt far hotter than necessary but it beat what would come afterwards once she got home. Once done she walked back over to Failyn and wrapped her arms around the woman's shoulders in an embrace “You’ve done your best with what you’ve been given to work with. What more is that you’ve opened your home to people who seek refuge.” The senshi began to rub her friends back to help calm her down. “That in and of itself is more than anyone could ever ask for.”
Gently, Acrucis ushered the pale haired woman out of the kitchen into the living room and coaxed her into taking a seat. “Lay down here for a little bit and let Orion and I take care of Eri okay? It’ll be okay.” She flashed Fai a reassuring smile. “She’s stable.”
“You are too kind to me Acrucis.” Fai wrapped her arms around in turn, resting her head on the girls shoulder. The rubbing of her back and the warmth of the other woman really made her relax and less nauseous then she had been before. Her gaze wouldn’t go back to Eri and that shamed her, at least it did for a brief moment. Acrucis had a way of making it seem so small compare to the good.
“I’m sorry, I’ve become such a mess.” She apologized again, “Since...Since becoming pregnant, and leaving destiny city, I’ve just been floundering around here…” She sat down on the couch, curling herself up. “Are you sure I don’t need to do anything else? Do you want me to make some tea? Or anything for you to eat?” She almost pushed herself up again, because how could she rest when someone else was hard at work in her home? How could she rest when she could at least do something in return for the kindness.
“Ah...Just…” Fai looked up at Acrucis, wondering if really she should do anything.
“Just relax,” the senshi laughed a little, a small attempt to lighten the mood if only a bit. She then stood up and tugged the blanket that hung on the back of the couch off and draped it over Fai “You, stay here! I’ll be okay, food can come later.”
With that Acrucis turned around and headed back into the kitchen to attend to Eri. After several years of helping out at the Oasis and the camps, all sense of modesty kind of goes out the window when the need to care for a patent is more pressing than what they may or may not be wearing. At one point or another before too much of the fuku had been removed she had turned to Orion to offer him a sense of reprieve by tasking him with making tea for Failyn and that she would call him back when the senshi on the table was ready to be moved to another room.
Fai remained a nervous bundle of nervous on the couch as she curled up on the couch. Orion came and went, talking to her lightly, offering her tea which she took graciously. How long had it been now? 10 minutes? no an hour? Is this what it felt like to wait to know if someone was alright.
She couldn’t just sit here with worry, so she went to her living room cabinet, pulling out the 1000 piece puzzle and emptying the coffee table to do it. In the midst of putting it together, she would look to the dining room door, then back to her puzzle. Acrucis said she’d be out when she was done...so...Fai just waited.
About a half hour came and went before Acrucis emerged from the kitchen “Orion?” she looked across the living room where he sat beside Fai flipping over puzzle pieces and pulling out like colors into piles. Once she held his attention she nodded her head once, “She’s all cleaned up if you could help carry her into another room please.”
Both Fai and Orion’s head whipped up, though only one moved to exit the room. The other continued the game of matching corners with each other and building from there. She wanted to mother hen Eri, watch over both her and Orion but didn’t want to intrude.
Sidestepping so he may proceed into the kitchen, the Senshi of Prayer skirted around the couch and took a seat next to the pale haired woman. Even with her hands now scrubbed clean for the most part, Acrucis was still hesitant to place her hands atop Fai’s; the image of her own blood stained hands still burned into her mind preventing her from offering further comfort for the time being, at least till the afterimage subsided. “How are you holding up?” The concern on her face did not fade now that Eri had been taken care of for the time being. “Did the tea help at all?”
Acrucis sat next to her, still worried over Fai’s own health. She adored the senshi for doing so. Her hands shook just a little as she placed a piece of puzzle, before coming back to rest on Acrucis’s. She didn’t see blood, didn’t feel any taint of it, didn’t feel sick anymore. “I didn’t do anything much besides sit here and worry...I should be asking you that question?” She got up, fetching a fresh cup and poured Acrucis some tea as well, nodding. “It did. Bless. I’ve been getting so nausea with the baby, I almost fear something is wrong until I’m reassured that pregnancies are weird and anything can happen. I just...thought I’d be over morning sickness by now.” She tried to smile, relaxing back and closing her eyes. “The smell of blood...I didn’t realize it was so strong until today, I doubt I will forget it for the time being….”
“If you have any coffee beans and something perhaps an orange that may help.” One of the few tricks she learned a long while ago. “Coffee beans for your nose is like ginger for your tongue. It’s something places like Bed Bath and Beyond use between smelling different lotions and body sprays. I suggest an orange or something not as strong as perfume so you don’t give yourself a migraine.” Indeed she had done that to herself a few times when the smell of blood had been too overwhelming; no, something less chemically and manufactured and more natural would be best. “Flowers! Do you have any outside? I realize it’s late but some fresh air wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
“Oh? Oh...Oh well.” Fai would have to remember that, but since she usually only drank tea...but she was sure the other residents had coffee. She would really have to remember this. The idea of Fresh air though was met with a more enthused response, as she nodded. “Late is okay! We have a lot of night owls. We have morning people. We have day people.” Fai laughed a little, “I think some of them have touched up the garden sitting area, would you like to go out there?” She thought perhaps a walk was a good choice, and thanked Acrucis for the suggestion. Speaking of that.
“You should probably power down too…” She crooked her grin, “Some of the residents might feel off with an aura they don’t all know.” Though to be honest, she had people coming and going of all sorts. It was silly to think...She rubbed her head, setting her tea cup down and standing. “I didn’t think...I was a little scared…” She sighed, “I was a lot of scared, I’ve never...seen such an injury. How do you deal with it everyday?”
Acrucis hesitated when asked to powered down. She knew the dangers it brought to remained powered, considering she was a transcended senshi, but to do so around people who had seen her face, people she didn’t know in a house if mixed aura’s made her a bit uneasy. Though she had been able to maintain her neutrality for the past six years the one thing she had done her best to keep secret was the girl behind the fuku, her identity as Hannah; that is… if she even really existed anymore...
Standing up the Senshi of Prayer offered her hand to help Fai stand up and ushered her towards the back door leading outside. Once alone and outside the gaze of unfamiliar people she’d power down for a bit till it was time to go home. “I guess I’ve become a bit desensitized to it all. Not only do I have the ability to help others but a responsibility. I didn’t have a choice but to get over my fears. Till this war finally comes to an end or I die I have to keep going and can’t let my fears or uncertainty get in the way of what needs to be done.”
Fai hadn’t realized that asking it of Acrucis might’ve been just a TOO much ask, and had been thinking selfishly of all her own residents. Some were still wary around each other, some thought it proved trust and loyalty to the cause...Others believed that it was just better to be civilians and that was okay too.
Instead, She follwed Acrucis away from wandering eyes, out into the forest paths where they could walk the foliage and woods without getting lost. Though Fai was powered down, she knew Drake was out patrolling today, under his DMC Hydrus and she wouldn’t have to worry about anything happening.
“Sorry Hannah.” she squeezed the girl’s hand, “I’m so sorry.” She hugged Hannah and breathed out, “This war takes too much from you and it worries me. I hope...I hope you know you can talk to me about anything, anytime…” She didn’t let go, running a hand through Hannah’s hair for comfort, even though Hannah had been trying to provide her own. “Drake usually keeps the injured away from me, I’ve helped out sick and hungry and minor things but...never something so big.” Fai paled again just thinking about it. “Ah over here. There is a small flower grove if you want to take a moment…” to breathe, to relax, to talk.
Now powered down Hannah’s hand tightened around her side bag strap without her even realizing it. Her gaze focused downward on the darkened path devoid of light save from that which came from the motion sensors around the exterior of Fai’s home and the stars and moon above that shown through the foliage. “Thank you Failyn, you’ve always been so kind to me. I appreciate it.” Even though the time spent in each others company had lessened the long the war dragged on, the pale haired woman beside her had always been a listening ear for her to rely on especially since they shared the same view of neutrality.
Fai relaxed as she took in the scents of the woods and garden. Something about plants and such always calmed her down, and she wondered if it was perhaps because she was so sensitive being pregnant. “And you to me, I suppose that is what friends do though.” She smiled softly over her shoulder at Hannah.
A small smile lifted the corner of her lips for a fraction of a moment as sapphire colored eyes lifted from the ground and glanced over at Failyn before taking a seat amongst the flowers. You will make an amazing mother she thought to herself. It will be a tough journey to raise a child among the chaos that was ravaging Destiny City but she had faith Fai could do it.
“I’ve been away from my homeworld too long. I had promised Ashur I’d go back soon,” she paused “but every time I think it’s okay something happens and I get delayed.” Given it had only been five days since she had made him that promise, the effects of not going home and reconnecting with her world were taking it’s toll on her body and mind.
“Transcendent has its benefits and it drawbacks, but you are right. Please make sure to take care of yourself and visit your homeworld.” Mintaka had never achieved the same connection to her homeworld, but at the same time, never wanted or needed it. luckily, she didn’t, she would hate to see how it affected her pregnancy.
“After tomorrow I’ll be gone for a few days. You know, heh, being a transcended senshi definitely has inconvenient drawbacks.” Her attempt at lightening the mood a bit. “Maybe, once this war is finally over, I can take you back to Acrucis. Perhaps I could even take you and your little one on one of the gondolas through the canals. I’ve long since learned how to maneuver them without destroying any of the docks.”
“I think we would love that.” She patted her flat belly, “We would all love it. Very much.”
Beside the bench was a small concrete pot with a few flowers still in bloom. From those Hannah trailed her fingertips over the delicate petals. It was dark enough outside it was hard to tell what color they were, but from the last bunch of survivors she picked one which she could only assume was a small rose if only because of the small thorns that poked her in protest. “Here,” she offered it to Failyn, “this should help.” the periwinkle haired girl then added.
With a soft smile Hannah rose to her feet. It was late and though she appreciated the company it would do her friend no favors staying up late standing around outside. “I should take off. I got a bit of a walk ahead of me. Take care okay? If you need me don’t hesitate to call.”
She rested on the bench, just as Hannah offered her the flower and smile at her. “You are so sweet Hannah.” She nodded, “I’ll have one of the senshi’s at least escort you out.” She made small waving motions and one of the guarding senshi’s dropped down with a smile. “Hannah…” Fai took her hand one last time and squeezed, “Please be safe okay? Just as your offer, if you ever need me, or a place to come too, I will always be here and my door will always be open.”
“Don’t worry,” Hannah returned the gentle squeeze and smiled. “I will, and thank you.” With that she gave Failyn a hug and said her goodbyes. Perhaps, someday when the war was over she could follow through with her offer and take her to visit her homeworld again. Till then, all any of them could do, was hope to survive to see the final day.
Prayer of Redemption
Sailor Acrucis brings her hands together in a prayer and closes her eyes. This attack requires a great deal of concentration as the ground below her in a 10' radius begins to glow with a soft yellow hue with a rune type symbol of the Crux directly beneath her. This is an AOE healing spell that at it's full duration will last for 45 seconds.
- 5 seconds being in the AOE to heal minor wounds
- 10 seconds being in the AOE to heal moderate wounds
- 30 seconds being in the AOE to heal severe wounds. (Deep gashes, hair line fractures and minor broken bones. NOT spiral fractures or bones protruding from the skin or any lethal wounds)
