The sun was just beginning to sink towards the edge of the earth, where the sky met the ground, when a dark stallion stumbled upon the edge of the forest he lurked amongst. Although he was hidden amongst the shadows of the trees, the heat haunted the stallion as his mane gripped onto the side of his sweating neck. He growled softly as purple eyes peered out at the eerily quiet lands just past the tree line. Not a bird was chirping, a foal giggling, or a bug buzzing. Nishant assumed everyone was laying down for a much needed mid-day nap.
A growl escaped the stallion's throat as he glared out at the plains in front of him. Not a single blade of grass was moving. He couldn't even get a slight breeze to help him cool off?! Angrily, Nishant stamped a hoof before he sighed. This anger would only boil his blood and heat him up more than he needed. The stallion now decided he needed to search for water even if it meant he had to leave the shade where he found peace.

Curling his tail around his leg, the elder stallion kept to the shade as much as he possibly could, which was a pain to do. He wasn’t really fond of the weather and usually stayed near some kind of water source especially since his skin would dry out fairly quickly. He blamed that on his kelpi lineage. He let out a small sigh. His coat was already feeling a little drier then usual.
His ears perked up when he say a stallion wandering around and from what he could tell, he was looking for something. Orpheus was never that curious about the affairs of others, but he couldn’t help that his feet led him after the flutter stallion. Maybe it was the wings that attracted him or maybe it was the exhaustion from the heat. He didn’t know which. “Hello.” His voice was delicate and soft. “Are you looking for something? Maybe I could help..?” He didn’t know if this stallion would harm him, but he wasn’t afraid of anyone.

Poisonous purple eyes slowly peered in the direction he heard a voice. Another shadow lurker. Not being fond of conversation, Nishant suddenly felt his lion-like tail begin to wrap around his back right leg. It was a nervous habit he had since he was a foal and he couldn't seem to break it even in adulthood. At least the voice seemed friendly and could possibly help him find some source of water...
When he finally caught sight of the other stallion, Nishant felt his hoof dig slightly into the soft soil beneath him. "Hello." The dark stallion said as he thought of what to say next. He wasn't very good at holding a conversation and new he was a bit awkward. "Yes... Perhaps you could point me in the direction of some water." His purple eyes focused on the stallion's blue eyes that were also surrounded by pitch black. At least there was something in common.

Uncurling his tail from his hind leg, the older stallion shifted slightly at the other stallions words. He could sense a bit of aggressiveness in his tone and he didn’t know if it was good or bad. “I would be more then happy to.” He said to him as he slowly began to make his way across the dreadfully hot plains. He kept his eyes plastered before them and he could feel the sun aging him with every second he was beneath it’s rays. “I need to find some water myself anyway..my skin is becoming dry and I need to rehydrate it.” He mentioned as he took a sideways glance at the flutter stallion. His wings were gorgeous and very often, he wished he had magnificent wings like that so he could fly up high with the birds.
Keeping his light blue, almost white, eyes on the stallion he tilted his head. “Traveling isn’t one of my strong suits, so I’m sorry in advance if we get lost.” It was true. He had just recently started traveling outside of his family’s home and it was all still very new to him. He only hoped the stallion didn’t mind too much.

Nishant noted the stallion's tail in a similar position to his own. Was it a common habit or was this stallion just as strange as Nishant was? His purple eyes shifted back to the stallion's face and he quirked a brow slightly. This stallion seemed to be eager to help... Nishant wasn't quite used to this sort of treatment. He had often been looked at as something to fear. If not for his eyes than for the ram horns that adorned his skull... a sign of kalona heritage. This stallion, however, seemed not to notice the way he looked. When the white stallion explained that he needed water as well, Nishant smirked slightly. Ah, so they had a common need. At least he had gotten lucky to find someone that needed water as well. "Hm..." It was all he could think to say and his tail curled slightly tighter around his leg as he walked, following along side the stallion.
"It is fine." Nishant said simply as he rattled his brain for something more to say. He didn't want to seem impolite after all. Clearing his throat, Nishant decided to go out on a limb and try to strike up a bit of conversation. "So what were you doing in the forest?" After the words left his mouth, Nishant thought it was a stupid question. Of course he was looking for shelter from the beating sun. He shook his head slowly, trying to free his neck of some of his sticky mane.

The older stallion looking at Nishant with a firm gaze. He pondered the question for a long moment before curling his tail around his leg again. “I am simply searching for something to do, but yes shelter is part of that. The sun is unbearable. If you want you can join me. The more the merrier.” He said to him as he walked onward feeling the shade of the trees making it a little bit cooler for him, but not too much. He had pondered looking for his sister, but Oberon told him numerous times that it was a lost cause. He didn’t know where she was and they hadn’t seen her in such a long time. He didn’t know where he could even start looking for her. “Do you have family? Family is a wonderful thing and everyone should be surrounded by it or at least something that is as close to family as it can be.” He told Nishant trying to make some kind of conversation. It seemed as if the other stallion didn’t want to talk to him. He was fine with that, but it would make for a very boring journey if they were both quiet the whole entire time.
“There is a small pond that we will pass soon if you wanted to take a dip in it to cool off.” He mentioned as his long tail uncurled from his leg and went back to swaying behind him. He was lucky that this stallion didn’t find him strange or maybe he did and was keeping it to himself. “So what is your name? Mine is Orpheus, but I have many names so you can call me whatever you would like.” He looked over at him with his white piercing eyes feeling that maybe this could be the start of a strange friendship.

Nishant could feel the other stallion's gaze like the sun burning against his skin. He shifted uncomfortably for a moment before he let his own poisonous looking orbs focus on the other stallion for a moment. Shaking his sweat soaked mane free from his neck once again, Nishant sighed when he felt the loose, now messy braid smack against his cheek.
When the other stallion offered for Nishant to join him on the journey, he hesitated for a moment. He had only just met this stallion, but something made him want to know more. Perhaps it was their commonalities or the loneliness was finally starting to eat at Nishant. Being trapped in his own mind was starting to grow dull. "I suppose joining you for your journey could be interesting."
At the mention of family, the faintest flash of a smile could be seen by the darker colored stallion. Lazily, he nodded his head to the white stallion. "Yes, I have a sister, a mother, and a father." Thinking about his family, he smirked. They were all odd in some way or another. "Do you have family?" A wave of confidence came over the stallion for a moment as he walked with his tail hanging lazily by his side now.
His thoughts were pushed aside when the larger stallion spoke of a pond. Without realizing it, Nishant's pace quickened toward the direction he assumed this pond to be. He was snapped short of his focus on the pond when the other stallion asked for a name, causing Nishant to twist his head to stare at the stallion that introduced himself as Orpehus. "Nishant."
