Quote: Zen: -talking to Lynnea and pretends not to notice Drako-
Quote: Lynnea: *smalltalks back*
Quote: Drako: *hipchecks Zen* I know you see me.
Quote: Zen: -gives a slight chuckle to the small talk, flicking her tail against Drako when he bumps her with his hip-
Quote: Drako: *runs his tail against her side*
Quote: Zen: shivers slightly at the brush of his tail. embaressed, she turned to him. "What on earth are you doing?" Compleatly forgetting she was ignoring him.
Quote: Drako: *grins a little mischievously* Distracting you.
Quote: Zen frowned, feeling slightly defeated. She gave a little humph and stood straight, raising her head. "Well, sir, you have failed. In order to distract someone, they must not want to have talked to you. And it is not that I didn't want to talk to you, I just haden't gotten to you yet." She peeked out at him sideways, wondering if he would buy it.
Quote: Drako's smile grew, and he chuckled a little. "I thought to distract someone, you just had to steal their attention from whatever else it was they were doing." He nodded to Lynnea. "My apologies, madam."
Quote: Zen frowned again, her ears falling halfly to hang perpendicular to her head. "Well, excuse me for being wrong. I suppose now that you know so much, you no longer need to observe the serimonies I perform." Giving a little wink to Lynnea on the side of her face Drako couldn't see.
Quote: "I... I... But don't you still have to perform our ceremony?" he asked, his smile turning to a frown. "Will I have to get Calixte to do it instead? You know how busy she is, what with the preparations and training the herd and everything..." It was his turn to wink at Lynnea, though his efforts were much more visible.
Quote: Zen froze. What on earth was he talking about? The cerimonies she knew about were all about feminine freedom and mother earth. There was no place for males in any she knew. She sighed a little and turned to Lynn. "Do you know what he is talking about?"
Quote: Lynnea smiled between them, looking from one to the other. Was the poor mare really so clueless? From her experience, it was usually the stallion that didn't pick up on the cues. Or, perhaps, she had simply forgotten - after all, it was usually Cali who did the big ceremonies. "I believe he means your lifemating ceremony, my dear," she said quietly, trying to nudge things along. Quote: Drako nodded enthusiastically. "Make it official, and all." Quote: Zen blushed and looked down. Both sad and sorry she could have forgotten such an entegral stage in her life. "I'm sorry." She gave up and did something she rarely did. She gave Drako a little kiss on the cheek as an apology. "Zuben has been going through a phase where he no longer wants to sit around and pay attention to his lessons....... I've been a little frazzled today I suppose."

Quote: Giving her a sad little smile, Drako leaned into the kiss she planted on his cheek and the leaned his head against her neck, careful not to ensnare her mane with his antlers. There hadn't been a first time for that, and he definitely didn't want there to be, for it couldn't be any less than intensely painful if he accidentally yanked a bunch of her leaves out. "It's all right," he said, "as long as we get around to it sometime." His thoughts turned to Zuben. "Do you think maybe he might need a more hands-on approach than listening? My parents took us out to the woods and played games with us to teach us their ways." Quote: Lynnea's mind raced as she tried to think of a suggestion to offer, but none came to her. Her whole life, up until her escape, anyway, had been spent being taught lessons in etiquette and her family's history. Only the etiquette was taught through action; her family's history, genealogy, legends... Those had all been taught to her through spoken word. It had been her mother's duty to teach her, to educate her; it was one of the few times they spent real time communicating. Of course, she hadn't been meant to have become too smart, for a smart mare was a dangerous one in the North. Fresh out of suggestions, Lynnea stayed quiet and waited for the conversation to naturally turn her way again. Quote: Zen shifted from one hoof to the other. She still was not used to any personal kind of touch. But she knew if she backed away now, it would hurt his feelings and that was not what she wanted. She settled for giving a little rub of her cheek against his neck. "Hmmmm. Possibly. Usually he just stands there listening and watching as I do the performance. And I guess this is the time of a young stallions life when he would rather feel the wind in his hair and....." Zen swallowed hard, trying not to imagine other things a young buck might be interested in. "I still haven't had.... The Talk with him." Her head bent slightly "I guess I'm just avoiding it." Zen coould talk till the sun came up about how nature made more of itself. But thinking of trying to explain to her adopted son just how other soquili were made, well, that made her throught dry up and her words catch in her throat. Quote: Sensing her discomfort in the hesitant way she touched him, Drako pulled back a little. He remained close to her, but distant enough to afford her some personal space. "The... talk?" His eyes drifted to Lynnea, looking askance at her. Was there a certain kind of talk that Zen was supposed to be having with Zuben? Quote: Lynnea's eyes widened and her eyebrows raised as the conversation turned to exactly the subject she'd hoped she'd never have to speak in public about. And then Drako looked at her, and she was forced to answer that question he was asking with his eyes. Clearing her throat with a little cough, she said, "Zen means the, you know... The um... The discussion you have with your foals, or, well, your young adults when they are old enough to understand where babies come from?" Her voice got high and quiet at the end, and all of her mentally cringed. Quote: Staring at Lynnea for a minute, Drako held back a fit of giggles, because that was probably the most unmanly thing he could do right now. So rather than risk opening his mouth too much, he said, "Oh. That talk."

Quote: Zen gave a few quick small nods. "Yes, THAT talk." She gave a little cough as well. She gave a sidelong look to Drako, but sighed in the end. "I would ask for assistance in explaining things. But, isn't that usually a talk a parent has with the child?" She looked at the ground, contimplating things. Sure, Drako would soon be his father. And he had been a father figure for quite some time now. But would it be rude to ask he be there? Or even have the conversation wholy by himself? She knew it would have to be soon. Zuben was getting older now, practically old enough to be a father himself if he tried enough. Her gaze was still to the ground, thinking all these things over.
Quote: One of Drako's hooves hovered hesitantly over the ground, suspended in the desire to paw at it, if only for something to do. This had to be the most awkward conversation ever. His parents had talked a little to he and his siblings about things like that, but it was mostly a "figure it out on your own" type situation. So... Somehow he doubted he would actually be any good at helping her explain, like she might desire. But he could try, couldn't he? ...Then again, he might just confuse things worse for the poor colt. And with his affinity for spouting facts - Drako shuddered at the thought. If they had this talk with him and he said something about it in public? What would they do then? His foot came down on the ground. "Are you sure it's a good idea to tell him? I mean... Obviously he has to know someday, but could we be sure that he wouldn't say something about having this little talk after he finds out what it's all about?" His frown deepened, and all he could think of was the disaster that was sure to come.

Quote: Zen's mind went in all directions at once. "My only one true fear is that he will go to a stranger for the knowledge and they will take advantage of him." Her heart felt heavy with the thought of it. "What if he asks someone and they try to explain by SHOWING him?" Her eyes widening with the emphisis. "And him becoming a parent before he is ready? I know I will be there to help him raise any foals he may have. But what if the mare convinces him to run off with her." Her sigh became even deeper now. "Who knew parenting came with such hard desisions."
Quote: Drako's mouth went dry as Zen continued along her train of thought, his eyes widening in disbelief. Had she truly had such thoughts? He had not thought her capable of such, but a mother's worry knew no bounds, it seemed. Pulling his slack jaw back up into place, he let a frown crease his features - better than standing there gaping at her, after all. "Zen, I don't know of anyone around here who would be likely to take such liberties with someone like that. On the other hand..." He paused, swallowing. He knew that what he was about to say would worry her even further. "...I wouldn't put it past some strange passing mare to convince him to run off with her. He's a good boy, but he's a little naive. But we can n** that in the bud!" he added quickly, casting a worried glance toward Lynnea. "All you should have to do is tell him to beware of beguiling strangers, right?" Quote: Lynnea felt her cheeks go bright red beneath the green of her coat as the conversation took a turn, no doubt clashing horribly where her coat was thinnest over her cheek bones and tiny bits of skin peeked from beneath her coat. She had not counted on it going this way, and she had certainly not counted on Zenstar being the one to turn it. Clearing her throat and looking around a little nervously for passerby (it was not like there was actually anyone around... they were just standing in the Gatherers' Clearing chatting, after all, and she was the only gatherer around at the moment), Lynnea nodded to Zenstar. "Tell him that when he has known someone for a really long time, when he's introduced them to you... Perhaps tell him that there are certain milestones one should pass before romance even begins to cross the path of the relationship?" Her face was flaming, she was certain. "And maybe the idea that children is a consequence of intimacy might frighten him off of it for a while," she whispered, trying to keep the meekness from her tone. As bold as she had been once, there were certain things that she was not comfortable discussing, no matter her company. Quote: Zen groaned as her thoughts were magnified by a second voice. She had all the love in the world for Zuben. But trust came different. She trusted him to stand semi-silently during her ceremonies. She trusted him to learn as much as he could and be a good stallion. She even trusted him to gather supplies for her. What she didn't trust was that his curiosity wouldn't get the best of him and trust the wrong soquili. Zen thought for a moment. "I suppose I could just teach him about love now, and wait a bit longer before we.... continue the discussion." She paused as she swallowed. "Maybe if he learns of love, it will make the other shorter and easier."
Quote: Lynnea nodded enthusiastically at Zenstar's words, despite the groan that had come from her before. "Love is the more important of the two, anyway," she replied. "Just make sure he knows the difference between love and lust." Her tone grew somber and solemn, almost grim. "Lust has brought down many happy families before, and it will always do so, but his family need not be one of them."

Quote: Zen nodded, finally steady on all four hooves again. She blew out a breath as something was finally, at least a little, decided on. "I will have to talk with him later then. When we are alone and there is nothing to distract him." A little smile quirked her lips "Though, finding a place like that seems to be more and more difficult." A silence fell upon all three of them. More comfortable now. she didn't feel a need to break it, but was curious about something. "Drako, have any of your stalkings been fruitful lately?"
Quote: Drako was about to suggest a place - there was always the quiet place by the stream, but that was where Calixte and Kenton met to have their little talks - when Zen changed the subject. For a moment, he felt a blush spreading beneath his cheeks, and gave Lynnea a sideways glance. Had he told her his hobbies, or, well, what his parents had always told him was his profession? It was a controversial job at best, watching people, but that was far from his interest. He liked to camouflage himself, hide, and watch people until he deemed it appropriate to reveal himself. That was not to say that he didn't learn things from watching people before he spoke to them, and sometimes he could never find the right time to reveal himself, and so he never did, but just learned things about them. It was how he had met Zen - only she had noticed him before he had had a chance to reveal himself. How he had managed it he was still unsure, but that was one of the things he loved about her: she was mysterious. Turning to Lynnea, he decided to explain himself. "My parents raised me to be a watcher and a secret keeper - a spy," he began, eyes brushing over Zen for a second before he continued. "The skill is useful sometimes, but it's not much use here - nor would I want to spy on anyone here. Everyone has their secrets, and they don't need to be held by anyone else." Quote: Lynnea's eyebrows went up when Zen said stalking, and her mind immediately went on high alert. Stalking? Did that mean that Drako knew who she was, where she came from? Did he know about everyone in the herd, had he stalked each of them? Her eyebrows rose further as he explained himself more, but his words put her only a little at ease. Everyone might hold their secrets, but he was raised to be a secret keeper, and who knew what he might know. Still, she decided to quiz him about her later. "I see," she said quietly, wondering what he might tell Zen, if anything, in her presence. Quote: Nodding to Lynnea, Drako turned back to Zen. "Not really much," he said. "I haven't been doing a lot of it - there are other things that have my attention." He gave her as pointed a glance as he could, a smile lurking about the corner of his lips. Things like you. Zen wasn't the only thing that had captured his attention of late, though; Zuben had gotten his own share of attention, as had his family, or at least the ones he had met: IthillĂșn had been teaching him what she knew of flowers. Quote: Zen's ears fell as she realized his watching might have been a secret. She had figured this was not Drako and Lynns first meeting, and thus he would have told her what he did. But that did not seem to be the case. She gave him a little pleading look whil Lynn wasn't looking, hopefully he would forgive her for spilling the peverbial beans. When Lynn looked back to her, she regained her composure and lifted her ears, trying to give a little smile. "Oh yes, he is good at knowing which is not meant to be known...... When it came to my special herbs, he knew not to watch." Of course it had helped that she knew he was there and had told him not to watch her special ingredients. But Lynn didn't need to know that if she was still getting to know him. "I know Zuben has been keeping him busy lately anyways. So he hasn't even really gotten a chance to leave yet." A nice earthy chuckle flooded her throat as she mentioned how the foal had become so attatched to the male.
Quote: Zenstar's admission, that he was good at knowing that which was not meant to be known, made Lynnea's ears lay almost back in dismay. If that was so, then he might know things about her that no one knew - things that could ruin her in the herd's eyes. But wait, she though. Who have I told them to? For him to know them, she would have needed to speak them aloud, would she not? And the things she was thinking of... She would never speak them aloud, give them voice and life. And that meant she was safe. The only things he could know about her were the same things she had told Cali and the Vanaras: she had come from a place that had treated her badly, and she was beyond their reach now, or so she hoped. "That is a good thing to be trained in, I suppose," she allowed. "We need watchers."
