Quote:
Sawyer picked his way through the forest, feeling the fall weather creeping in with the turn of the leaves. He noted that he would have great camouflage in this area, distracted by their lovely browns and oranges. Not paying as much attention, he accidentally kicked his chicken who clucked at him hatefully, sassing him all the while he rolled his eyes and murmured back at her. Silly bird.

Quote:
Kararti was enjoying the sun on her back in on a rare sunny autumn day when the sound of a chicken's cluck made her jolt to attention. There was something in the forest with her, and it wasn't like chickens were common birds out here. Brows furrowing as she squinted into the trees, she called, "Hello?" It took her a second to realize that if that chicken's clucking had been because something was eating it, she'd probably be in trouble, but by then it was too late. Getting to her feet to be able to better defend herself should something unfriendly come out of the forest, Kara spotted a brown pelt moving through the trees and braced herself.

Quote:
Sawyer continued to take the birds tirade that had moved to pecking his legs ferociously. He grumbled, before kicking her like a soccer ball. The fluffed up chicken bounced a few feet, squawking angrily. Sawyer smirked at the bird and went back to admiring the scenery when an orange figure that moved slightly caught his attention. He paused, staring uncertainly. He was surprised to find he wasn't alone.

Quote:
The chicken rolled into full view before its owner, and Kara winced. Poor thing, she thought, and looked up in time to catch the eyes of its assailant. The brown coat belonged to a soquili, after all, and not one that looked to be of the kind that ate other creatures. "Did you kick that poor bird?" she asked, wondering if he needed a good kicking, too.

Quote:
He blinked a few times, noticing that the warrior looking soq before him was very much a female. "I... uh, yes, well... trust me, she's fine." He shifted his feet awkwardly, feeling the bird come to be behind his legs, staring at the stranger curiously.

Quote:
"That doesn't make kicking her any less wrong." Huffing, Kara shook her head, amazed that the chicken would just go back to him like that. "You've got a lot of strength in those legs, and she's just a little bird." Looking down at the chicken, Kara addressed her. "No offense. You're a familiar, right?" It seemed logical - why else would a soquili keep a chicken around? They laid eggs that soquili couldn't eat and supplied meat soquili couldn't eat, unless this stallion was selling her eggs or something.

Quote:
Milly simple clucked, her fluffed feathers falling into place once more. "Excuse me miss, but I don't think I know you." Saywer said with his thick ak-scent, implying she didn't have a right to an opinion on him or his chicken.

Quote:
Straightening - she'd unconsciously leaned down when she'd spoken to the chicken - Kara frowned and tilted her head at him. "I don't think I know you, either, but I don't know if I really want to know someone who kicks his chicken like it's nothing and then doesn't even apologize to her." She stared at him, hinting that apologizing was exactly what he was supposed to do.

Quote:
He chuckled in a barely amused sort of way, and had he had arms, they be on his hips. "Well then I don't guess you really ought to try to get to know then, miss." There was something about this mare that was irksome enough that Sawyer had no qualms communicating with her, he noted to himself, very pleased.

Quote:
Kara raised a brow. "Maybe I should get to know you just to spite you. What do you think about that?" she asked, eyeing the feathers in his hair. Didn't she know someone who was part bird? What was it called? "Are you part hippogryph?"

Quote:
Sawyer scoffed at her abrasive personality. "Well you sure aint shy, are ya?" She eyed her, curiously. "Whats a hippogryph? Sounds like somethin' I aint."

Quote:
"Shy? Who needs shy? I'm either loud or deadly quiet." She almost laughed when he asked her what a hippogryph was. He didn't know? Odd. "A hippogryph had feathers and birdlike legs. You obviously don't have the legs, but you've got the feathers, haven't you?"

Quote:
Sawyer quirked an eyebrow, eyeing on of his feathers that tended to fall near his face. "I don't look like a bird I've ever seen, miss. And that sounds like a complicated word to describe a bird, anyhow." Milly saw that sawyer seemed more comfortable with the stranger, at least enough to be conversing and so waddled out from behind his legs to further investigate.

Quote:
"It's not a bird!" she exclaimed, torn between dying of laughter or scorn. "It's what they call a soquili that had birdlike attributes. My friend is -" But then she cut herself off, for the little hen had moved from between the stallion's hooves and waddled over to her. For some reason, a glow lit inside her, and Kara smiled as she stood stalk still. "Do you think she likes me?" she asked, trying not to look at the bird or let it know that she was talking about it.

Quote:
It was Sawyer's turn to laugh. This mare was interesting to the the least. Maybe she had a thing for birds? "She doesn't much like anyone she can't eat. Like corn. Corn is her best friend." He smirked at his companion, watching her tottle up to the mare fearlessly.

"B-b-b-u." Milly half-formed clucks quietly, and seemed to be making little comments about the mare neither of the soq could understand.

Quote:
"Well, she likes you well enough to stick around, for whatever reason," Kara shot back, and then looked down at the chicken, studying her as she studied Kara. "Hi there," she murmured.

Quote:
Sawyer beat a hoof. "Now wait just a darned minute. I do not abuse my chicken!" Had they been place in modern times america, an out burst like in public would have been met with uncertain glances. This situation, however, just made Milly cluck at him for shouting.

"She just gets in the way all the stinkin' time, and needs a reminder not to just waddled in front of someone."

Quote:
Had Kara been human, she would have crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him. As a soquili, though, she settled for just glaring at him. "And a reminder has to be a kick, does it? That's nice." She spit the words at him, dripping with sarcasm. "Couldn't you just nose her out of the way or something?"

Quote:
Sawyer stared at her with a "are you kidding me?" face. "You try putting up with that thing for more than a day and see how long it takes you to give her a nice swift kick to the butt. She's more durable than ya think!"

Quote:
Kara's eyebrows raised once more. "You want me to? 'Cause I will. I will totally accept that challenge. Only you have to stick around, 'cause I'm not gonna let you just drop your chicken on me and run. Why do you keep her if she annoys you, anyway? Is she a mare attractant or something?"
PostPosted: Sun Sep 28, 2014 3:07 pm

Quote:
Sawyer kept a skeptical expression. "She attracts the types of mares that aren't interested in me, obviously. So rules out that theory there, miss." He meandered over, pulling Milly back with his hoof who just stared at the mare with a blank expression, letting the stallion treat her like a rag doll. "And I keep her because she's mine." He let a tone in that implied the mare wouldn't get far if she tried to "rescue" his chicken. "But," he added, "If you want to see how she is, feel free to stick around." He'd love to see Milly annoy the heck out of this nosy lass.

Quote:
Wondering if she should take the comment about the kinds of mares the hen attracted as a slight, Kara smirked. "How unfortunate for you," she said. "Does she attract the kind that want to eat you? I imagine she'd be good at that." Surprised when the chicken didn't make a noise when he scooped her over to him, Kara asked, "Where'd you get her anyway?" She did plan on sticking around - this was too entertaining to just leave without following through.

Quote:
He shrugged, leaning down for the bird to clumsily bat herself onto his back where made a nest of sorts, still watching the mare from around his neck. "I just woke up one morning and she was there, and for the life of me wouldn't leave. I think I accidentally made camp on her nest and she figured I owed her protection or a home or something." He smirked in the memory. "Or she liked my feathers and probably thinks she's a soquili too. She's not a familiar, so I can't find out."

Quote:
Kara watched, amazed as the little chicken fluffed herself onto his back, and was silent for a moment. Then she half-spluttered and half-exploded. "Why don't you just carry her around like that all the time?! That way you won't have to kick her out of the way, numbskull." Shaking her head, Kara stomped a hoof. "If you can be nice to her this way, why don't you do it all the time?"

Quote:
Sawyer looked indignant. "What is it of your business, woman?!" He stomped back, annoyed she had the gawl to tell him what to do with his chicken. "She isn't always cooperative, is she? NO." He went to muttering about crazy mares as he turned to keep on his path to no where.

Quote:
Kara followed him, totally unaware that he was trying to leave her behind. "It's not really any of my business, actually, but that doesn't really matter to me. I'm one of those obnoxious people you can't get rid of," she said, completely serious. If she felt like being obnoxious today, so what? It wasn't like she was likely to ever see him again once they parted company. She doubted he'd want to leave her an address so she could come calling later. "Besides, how are you going to get a girl to fall in love with you or something if you can't even treat a girl chicken right?"
