The sounds of battle were too close for Dyakida's comfort, the crashing and shouting no longer something far afield and removed from the present. Neued had been invaded.
Dyakida drew her dagger, understandably afraid to leave the safety of the building she was in to brave the chaos of outside alone. She felt helpless as she heard the call to retreat, helpless and frustrated at how ineffectual she had been.
She had gone to Neued to offer her services. She had prepared weapons and repaired armor. When the fighting had started, though, she had quickly become useless, and now... she was useless, defenseless and alone. Well, not alone, she had Peyla. But what could Peyla do if Oban warriors were to charge in here? Very little – Peyla was but a sprite. Dyakida hoped that someone – some sister or one of the earthlings she knew – would find her and bring her out, but as the fighting and noise grew more distant, drifting towards the jungle and the paths of escape, she began to lose hope of that.
She felt around for a place to hide, secreting herself behind what felt like some supplies and covering herself with a piece of cloth, and waited.
Nobody entered. Nobody called her name. All she heard were the sounds of battle, now far away and waning, and the sounds of footsteps. ”Peyla?” she called softly. Her sprite chimed, and she felt her answering touch. ”Fly out. If there are any sisters, show them where I am... If not, find them. Please, my guide, do this for me...”
Peyla was a good sprite, but she did not like this situation at all. Still, she did as she was asked. With a hopeful farewell chime, she zoomed out of the window and searched the camp. There were Alkidikes, but – and she chimed in alarm as she saw them - they were with the bad earthlings, the ones with pretty orange crystals. The Alkidikes did not look happy, and Peyla didn't think that Dyakida wanted the bat earthlings anywhere near her.
Finding no other Alkidikes in the camp, Peyla headed for Jahuar to find them, chiming urgently to herself...
Dyakida was quiet, sure that any moment now, Peyla would return with salvation. When she heard sounds at the entrance and voices, she initially perked up, then cringed as she realized that Peyla was not with them... and the voices had an Oban accent.
“Nothing here... Just an armory.”
“Good. This part of the settlement is secure, then. Lets report back and help set things up... I hear there's going to be a party for the nobles...”
“Yeah... we work for it, they enjoy it. But what can you do? They're the king's blood...”
“Yeah, well, if we're lucky we can get something for ourselves.”
“If...”
Their voices faded away and, letting out a breath of relief, Dyakida huddled into her hiding space, praising Aisha for hiding her. She had no idea how hidden she was, really, but she did know that it would not be safe for her to leave.
Mother Aisha... she prayed, Please... let Peyla find one of my sisters and rescue me... and, afraid, settled in to wait...

Naevius had been ecstatic when they captured Neued. And even though she knew there would be a party she would have to go to, nothing could ruin her mood. She had a few friends, FEMALE friends around the camp now and she wasn't bored all the time. Being in the war camp had been a liberating experience for her so far and she had learned so much. Not only about war but about life in general. Things were different out here, a good different.
At the party, things were getting into the swing of things sooner than normal. She and Ichil were there to make appearances but what they really wanted to do was sneak out and explore. But duty was duty and they were doing what they had to for now. Smiling so much her face hurt, Naevius thought they had finally greeted everyone and had stayed the amount of time that was proper. Looking to see if they were in the clear, she grabbed Ichil's hand and slipped out the back entrance. None of the guards had seen them escape, she giggled quietly and pulled Ichil along with her. The sounds of guards startled her.
"Yeah, well, if we're lucky we can get something for ourselves."
"If we go 'relieve' the guards on duty at the party we might be able to dip inside."
Naevius rolled her eyes and let them pass as she darted into the first building in the unfamiliar territory. "Oh look Ichil! An armory! I wonder if they have any whips..." She said as she released Ichil finally and began rifling through things near the door. Everything was in a disarray but Nae didn't mind, it was an adventure for her.

Ichil had never really been one for parties. The only people who greeted her were the ones that came to see her father. Soon enough she was able to slink away and hide by the wall, sipping punch. Mostly she was left alone. Perhaps her reputation had begun creeping out of the family circle, although that wouldn't be surprising. Nobles gossiped like nobody else.
When the opportunity for distraction came, she had happily run off with Naevius, running behind her. Their first meeting had not been so pleasant, but they had since avoided discussing the unfortunate inevitabilities of a noblewoman's life. Exploration was exciting and fun, especially in a town that had just been conquered. Their soldiers had done well, even when all the bleeding they had done back at camp.
She too rolled her eyes at the guards' conversation, but privately wished them luck as she peered up at the building ahead of them. She turned to Naevius as she spoke. Whips? To steal? Well, defeating a city generally meant you had inherited their possessions. The young woman nodded and laughed as they went inside, beginning to rifle through the half-ruined objects further into the room. Had there been a scuffle here? Undoubtedly the lesser races had run here to try and arm themselves, but it didn't seem as if the had been fast enough!

((I'm thinking maybe we should drop it)) It had been hours, and Dyakida had dared not to move far from her hiding place. She was afraid that if she did, it was likely that she would not find it again. She had eaten the small snack she kept in her pack long before, and she was afraid to get up to get her waterskin, which had been left at her worktable. But someone or something had come through the building like a storm, clattering her weapons everywhere and strewing who-knew-what who-knew-where. Possibly including her things.
Somehow – by pure luck, more than any skill on her part – they had missed her in their search and she had been left to wait.
And wait.
She was tired, very tired, and with each endless hour that passed, the hope that Peyla would return with help faded. Dyakida didn't want to think about what would happen if they didn't come.
Voices
Female ones, at that, which was enough for Dyakida's starved hope to cling to. She wished she could peer out at them – she wished she could tell if she had really hidden, though she supposed that having escaped several searches implied that she had found a good hiding spot.
Somehow.
What hope she had restored soon faded. Their accents were Oban, and they were talking about whips. No sister, with the exception of Lasarra, ever used whips. She felt along the floor for her dagger, picking it up as her fingers danced over its hilt and holding it tight in front of her. It was the only thing that kept her from being defenseless and, thus, the only thing that kept the artisan away from the gaping chasm of panicked terror that loomed before her.
Laughter... the clinking of metal against metal, movement... They were close to her; Too close. Dyakida tried to still herself so that she could hear and feel them, so that she could know – to some extent – where they were. But without the foliage of Jahuar to add additional points of sound to it, all the weaponcrafter could tell was that they were there in the room with her, and that – from the magnitude of the vibrations - it couldn't be more than three people.
She tried not to breathe too loudly as the fire people came closer, and prayed that they – like the others – would not notice her.

As they wandered through the little building, looking inside boxes and stands they saw all kinds of things. Various lengths of swords, bows, knives, staves, spears, lances, hammers, shields. It was a good find for the Oban army and it appeared as if it had already been found as there were quite a few empty spaces where there wasn't any dust that indicated that things had been moved. "Hmm, no I don't see any whips." She said somewhat upset. She couldn't exactly remember if she had confided in Ichil what she wanted to do but she trusted her. After walking around in the relatively quiet, Naevius paused. "Ichil, do you hear anything? It sounds like...breathing..." She looked around trying to find the source of the breathing noise. Sorry for taking so long with this...we can continue or drop and just make up the ending, whatever yall want.
