Ruelash was not happy about retreating from Neued. The losing part was not so bad: Win, lose, he got to kill Obans either way, and that had been fun. But retreating? Having to leave that perfectly good village and killing behind? That rubbed him the wrong way.

So to say that, at the retreat campsite in the jungle, he was grumpy would be an understatement. He was not, however (to his credit) looking for a fight when he walked into the healers tent. ”Hey.” he grunted to the nearest man – some leaf tribe man with funky earrings – and gestured to a scabbed-over cut along his leg, ”Is this gonna turn purple an' rot?” he made a face, ”Because I don' want that, so yer gonna fix it up.” he waited for his demand to bear fruit, slightly annoyed that he was asking in the first place.

Uq still couldn't believe that they'd retreated at all! But here he was, with the few other healers who had assembled and successfully escaped from Neued. It was busy, here in the healing tents - people with injuries were flooding in, though not nearly as terrifyingly as they had at the invasion. No one was coming in covered in burns or slashes - though there were plenty of people with scrapes and knicks.

For the most part the healers were busier gathering the hastily gathered provisions, which they'd urged as many retreating people to carry as possible so the Obans didn't get a hold of the important supplies. Now, as the rather angry looking man skulked to the entrance of the tent, Uquin expected the gruff man to have more supplies to hand over. Instead - he showed a cut, which had scabbed deeply. It was definitely inflamed, but well on its way to healing - though just looking Uquin could see why the man would ask. It looked uncomfortable.

"Er... yes. Of course - sit here, please." Uquin answered, distractedly. The one bad thing about being a healer was that, in your mind, when things got busy you began to prioritize people - and in his mind, this man's uncomfortable cut was lower on the 'need to deal with' scale than gathering supplies. So for the moment, as another healer popped into the tent and held out a small bag of poultices, Uquin distractedly stepped away from Ruelash to retrieve it, bustling to set it along with its cousins, across the tent.

The Injuries were not so bad – that itself was a small mercy. Biroki found himself mainly ordering people about and taking inventory. Another small and more questionable mercy was his help... of the two daughters he had, he would not have expected the cruel one to have offered to assist him... but she was. He nodded at a prentice's whispered report and turned to his daughter, avoiding her cursedly yellow eyes.

”Ikkio, if you could bring in the new package of herbs from Sauti, that would be great.” he said, ”And then offer Uquin your assistance...” he glanced over at his student and friend, ”It seems he has a lot of minor cases for you to deal with.”

”Of course, Daddy” purred Ikkio, giving him a saccharine, innocent smile, ”I'll just go get that for you...” Working with her father was hard. He didn't bend to her will like mother did, or even like he once had. But, she wanted to work in the tents, and mama wasn't here, so she had to work with him... which meant buttering him up. A lot.

Be a good girl, do everything he says, and maybe he'll forget that little incident with that patient... the incident she had hoped he would never find out about. She was sure, though, that he had. A shame.

Either way, she did as she was told and went out to bring the package in with due promptness...

Well, he'd done the sitting down part and... now the man was walking away?! ”Hey!” he said, annoyed, glaring at the leaf man, ”Jus' look at it, will ya? An' fix it up, it can't take you that long...” he grumbled, ”'less yer lazy.”

It was a relief to have Biroki here - but Uquin wasn't sure what to think about the man's daughter. Thankfully, he hadn't had to work closely with Ikkio yet - though he couldn't help but feel unnerved by her for reasons he couldn't quite explain. Depositing the package into its place, Uquin paused at the grumbles from the injured man. Uquin didn't think much of it. After all, when injured many people showed their grumpy sides. So he returned, picking up a few bandages and simple pain-killers as he went, stepping aside so Ikkio could pass him at one point, with a respectful nod.

Then he returned to Ruelash, giving him a look at the accusation of being lazy, but not commenting on it. "Do you want an actual examination, or for me to make an assumption and risk missing something important?" He answered instead, his voice somewhat steely - not in anger, but firm. Resolute. He'd rather take his time than just assume the man's leg would be fine and toss a few bandages at him. So he stood by the man, but took his time setting the items he'd gathered on the cot beside Ruelash, not yet looking at the wound but instead preparing his workspace.

Its not much of a post, i know, but I know where im going razz i think

Ikkio delivered the package, standing by in case Uquin wanted her to do anything.

Anything.

In all seriousness, though, she did want to assist. She wanted to learn the trade. ”Can I help you with anything, Healer?” she asked, in her usual purr of a voice. Clearly, she had developed very fast.

It seemed cut and dry, though – just a cut along a leg of a very familiar man. Strangely familiar.

She squinted at him. Who was he?

It seemed that Uquin was getting some trouble from his patient, but if there was anything that Ikkio could handle it was trouble. Or at least be helpful. He decided not to worry about it for the time being...

Ruelash growled in annoyance, but the leaf man had a point. He supposed. He watched him work with mounting impatience, sparing a glower for Ikkio.

And then a second look.

She looked very familiar, in a way he didn't like. He stared at her for a moment, momentarily distracted from the annoyingly slow healer.

”Who the frostin' abyss are you?” he growled finally, his efforts to figure out who she was having been fruitless.

Uquin had been in the girl's shoes not too long ago, so he was glad to help her - unnerving though she was, he had no reason to deny her the opportunity to learn. Oblivious to the pause between the two, as they tried to figure out who the other was, Uquin instead retrieved a small jar of water, sprinkling powdered dry herbs into it and mixing it with a careful swirl of the jar. The herbs would numb the cut, while washing the blood away. Finally kneeling infront of Ruelash, Uquin gripped the man by the ankle and propped his leg against his bent knee. "A healer in training - she'll be helping me take care of you, that's all you need to know." Uquin responded briefly, then looked at Ikkio.

"Ikkio, take that rag and wash his wound, please. That way we can see how deep the wound is, and whether bandaging it, or sewing would be the best course of action."

Scarlett Arbuckle
I have no idea what i am doing

The name was really familiar, but Ruelash couldn't place it. Grudgingly, warily, like a wild animal, he leaned back – tense – and watched as Ikkio began to clean his wounds.

Ikkio did as she was told, studying the ice man through half-lidded eyes as she cleaned his wounds – showing off a little, just to show Uquin she knew things. ”Bandaging, I think...” she murmured, looking at the healing wound beneath the scabs, ”It's not so deep, and it's begun to heal.” she looked up at Uquin, as if to challenge him.

Zumurundi was afraid of his mistress, but that didn't mean he didn't like to poke his head in to check on her and see how he was doing. And who would stop him? He was a sizable young radaku, and he was good at getting out of restraints. He walked carefully into the tent and studied Ikkio and her activities, before giving a satisfied “Whuff.” All things good here.

Biroki, working on his own things, caught a glimpse of his daughter's radaku. Radaku were, decidedly, not supposed to be in a tent of healing. ”Shoo...” he whispered, gesturing for the beast to leave.

Ruelash's gaze was captured by the newcomer, assessing it for threat and purpose. He was about to dismiss it and focus on the real threat when he recognized the creature's coat patterning. It was hard to forget that annoying day in the jungle a few years ago. And the Radaku pack. And the angry mage... and the little girl...

A rare flash of brain activity. A connection. His gaze snapped back to the girl and he stared at her intently. A look of mortified recognition set it. ”It's you!” he growled, jerking his leg away and reaching for his swords, ”Ye little b***h!” he pulled himself into a crouch, scowling at the girl, ”I said I'd make ye pay for yer trickery, brat, and I'll make ye pay!”

Ikkio jerked away, confused. ”Excuse me?” she said, looking him over searchingly. Did she know this man? She couldn't remember – the day she had found Zumurundi was dulled by memory, and the ice man she had tricked into helping her was now a featureless idiot blur. ”I don't know what you're talking about.”

What on earth...?! Uquin had raised his eyebrows at Ikkio's stare, then gave a brief nod of his head at her assesment, unimpressed. "Then do it." He said, simply, turning away from her and instead setting to smoothing a ground paste of herbs onto a bandage, to promote circulation and quick healing. Folding them over, Uquin turned to offer them up to the girl when... quite suddenly, their patient jerked away, reaching for his weapons.

Uquin's reaction was immediate. He slid his body between Ikkio and Ruelash, a hand slightly raised towards Ruelash. He had no clue what, if anything, had occurred between the two - but his initial instinct was to turn his eyes to the wound, aware of flushed skin (well, as flushed as he could percieve blue, icy skin to be). "Don't be foolish - any grudge you have can be settled later, OUTSIDE of a healing tent, and with your leg wrapped. Or should we leave you to infection? If that's your preference, be my guest - and leave." With one arm behind him, Uquin pushed Ikkio back by the shoulder, shooing her towards her father, while the other hand remained raised, eyes focused on the rabid ice earthling. His patience was waning - he didn't have the time to baby a patient who wouldn't sit still for treatment, after all, especially when that patient insisted on insulting the healers around him. Their service wasn't a promise, or a guarantee, after all.

Whoa. Whoa... Zumurundi growled, moving between Ikkio, Uquin, and the stranger with a forceful growl. All was NOT good here and, for all her flaws, Ikkio was his mistress and this was a threat. He growled again, his bright eyes piercing. If the man did more than threaten, there would be teeth at his arm, or worse...

Biroki, too, was roused by the commotion. Ikkio, for all her flaws, was still his daughter and the man's tone...

His magic, bored – if such a force could be bored – by its use for healing, roiled at the idea of a threat. He finished what he was ministering to with effort and stood, walking over. His restraint was admirable, but the air still crackled around him.

”Is there a problem?” he asked, putting a hand on his daughters shoulder and pulling her back. He watched the man with tense eyes. Nobody called his daughter a b***h, no matter what she had done.

Ruelash growled – It was definitely her. That violet hair, those yellow eyes, that cocky look. The little brat hadn't deserved to grow up.

The healer went and stepped in where it wasn't his business, and Ruelash made sure he knew it with a look. Of course, Ruelash had come in to make sure that his wound wouldn't make his leg fall off from infection, but priorities had changed.

He had to make the little b***h pay.

”You've no idea what my grudge is” he growled, lunging towards Ikkio...

Ikkio still didn't remember him, but this boded both troubling and entertaining. She'd been going to bandage the mans wound, but if he wanted to yell at her, he could just leave. Zumurundi even got involved and she wasn't afraid. She was well protected. Whatever grievance he had, he could just deal with it because he wasn't getting through the males protecting her. She moved closer to her father.

Not getting through at all.

Surely he wouldn't be stupid enough to try.

Except he was.

Startled, she flinched back against her father, putting up a hasty shield of her own...

Zumurundi was on this. The second the man attempted to strike, he leapt, fangs and claws glittering in the light of the healer's tent. Ruelash dodged him just enough to prevent the radaku from grabbing and biting, but the force of the Radaku's pounce still went through...

Ruelash hated the Radaku about as much as he hated the girl. His own charge was forced wide, and the slashing strike of his swords landed on someone other than the target...

The healer.

Not that he cared. Easily distracted, he wheeled, kicking, at the Radaku...

This whole situation was only getting crazier by the moment! Uquin's eyes narrowed, both thankful for but also annoyed by the sudden flurry of activity from the others involved. He definitely may need assistance getting the rude patient out of the healing tents - but at the same time, Biroki coming over, plus the beast getting protective, may only further antagonize the man.

Not that he needed to be antagonized - he was clearly quite content to be enraged, it seemed. Unaffected by the look, Uquin maintained his bodily interjection between Ruelash and Ikkio as best he could, but he did step aside as Biroki strode forward, bringing with him the obvious crackling of magic in the air, which Uquin only knew how to sense because of the man's lessons. He was angry - which was a surprise to Uquin, who turned his face to gaze at him. Of course, he'd never seen Biroki have REASON to be angry - but at the same time it was startling, almost a tangible feeling along with his magic - manic and almost frenzied. "Such vendettas don't belong in a healing tent, you fool!" He hissed, turning his eyes back towards Ruelash.

Uquin would blame his slow reaction on his intrigue regarding Biroki's magic. Ruelash slashed with his blade, just as the radaku leapt - knocking into the man, and sending his blade arching wide. The healer threw up a shield of his own, but the knife had swung wide far before Uquin had the thought to raise it in the first place - and so it had only partly materialized.

If it hadn't, he probably would have a more important injury to deal with - but as it was the blade slashed through the flesh of his face with relative ease, and the healer felt the tickling sensation of blood long before his nerves seemed to realize what had happened. Startled, Uquin yanked himself back and away from the man, a hand raising, confused, to his face. It was a shallow enough cut - definitely not lifethreatening, by any means, and yet it was deep enough to be of concern - and nastily slashed from his chin up to his eyebrow - and through his eye. Noiseless, until the point where his nerves woke up. Then it was like being struck to the face by a wall as his body realized it was injured, almost physically knocking him back, until he released a startled grunt of realization.

It was, definitely, the last place he'd expected any sort of injury, no matter how heated the 'argument' was becoming.
