Profile/History

Tired of sitting at home in his new rich life-style; he feels he should leave home. He no longer wants to work in the Confectionary Shop or even learn to manage the family business as his father does. He flees the manor in an attempt to stay with his friends. He finds them, and they have a long talk about life and the War at hand. After the failed attempt to run away, Rainier confronts his parents about his true feelings. His friends are all planning on becoming warriors. No longer wanting to sit on the fence either; he feels he should train in battle and eventually aid in the war. So he decides to leave home on a journey with his parents’ permission. As to whose side is he fighting on? Initially neither of them. He feels that war is bad. After meeting various Orderites and Oblivionites, he might choose sides upon hearing their stories/persuasions.

Active-He is quite healthy even though he works in a sweets shop. All the running around he does keeps him in good shape. Evading butlers and maids to roam the streets and explore a little ways outside the city. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t like candies though. He definitely has a sweet tooth. He gets it from his mother. To aid in his ‘staying skinny’ he has the added bonus of what seems to be….a high metabolism? Which he must have inherited from his father who is also skinny. In other words, Rainier can eat a lot of junk and still remain thin. He is quite mysterious in this way.

Adventurous-He likes to be outside and hang out with friends and goof off. That was until he started to be shunned. He felt like he didn’t fit in, but he still wanted to belong. He likes excitement in life. Even little things like going on walks and exploring, like in areas outside the city, and outside the manor’s grounds. Usually he gets in trouble for wandering off. His parents prefer to have him where they can keep an eye on him; which means he’s either working the counter at the store, cooking at the store, or being tutored by private teachers. Yes, upon gaining wealth, he was taken out of public school and given private lessons; mostly classes on fancy things like dancing, music, the arts, history, and business.

Childish-He is prone to scuffles. He dislikes being made fun of. Secretly he wants to belong/fit-in. He feels the strong need to be accepted and liked. Pouty when he doesn’t get his way. There is talk of him being spoiled, now that he has come into money, but really this isn’t true. He doesn’t always get what he wants, though that doesn’t mean he won’t make a fuss about things not going his way. Misunderstood. When pressed with the issue that he’s ‘rich’ and has everything he could ever want, he argues that “Real riches are the riches possessed inside.” He is a firm believer that it’s what’s on the inside that matters. And money isn’t what makes a person; at least not in their entirety. He will say that he is lucky for having a good roof over his head now, and a nice warm bed to sleep in though. Those that are jealous of him make him rather depressed.

Attractive-He has been called ‘cute’ by girls and even boys his age; and considered to be quite handsome by other individuals, even adults. Looks-wise he is a bit feminine, but personality wise he is quite the tomboy. Still, he would often receive compliments from other well-to-do family heads. Supposedly there was even talk of marrying him off to another wealthy family. When Rainier heard this though, he was greatly upset and locked himself in his room. Eventually his parents gave up on that prospect, and Rainier finally came out of hiding. He is not shy of girls, surprisingly. He treats them as he would anyone else. Boys and girls are equals; though his Mother has tried to get him to treat ladies with more respect as of late. He doesn’t really see the point, but every once in awhile he’ll make an effort to be a polite gentleman.

Solo 1-Newfound Wealth

The new house was large; too large maybe in Rainier’s opinion. The manor sat upon a high hill, just over-looking town. It was a fifteen minute carriage ride away from the rickety old building that they had once called home. In the middle of the city, they had lived out of their shop. Upstairs was the bedrooms and bath, and downstairs was the Confectionery Shop and kitchen. In the past year the Chocolat Family had made a name for themselves. Ever-so-slowly they had managed to grow and take over the Sweets franchise all-together. Soon their little house was revamped into a huge Sweets Shop and they had moved their living quarters to the Manor.

Rainier let out an exasperated sigh as a slew of maids crowded around him. They were new to the Chocolat household, but they all seemed to have adapted quite well to taking orders from his mother, Mrs. Chocolat. They busied themselves adjusting Rainier’s shirt collar and pants. They shined his shoes, combed his hair, and stood him up in front of the long mirror in the bedroom much to his discontent. He would have rather been outside, playing with the other children.

“Mo-ther! Why do I have to wear this?” he complained, glaring at the hired help with the ferocity of an angry youth.

“You must look nice dear. We’re moving up in the wooorld!” his mother laughed, pinching his cheek. She was a jolly, round individual with boundless energy. Curly hair with rosy cheeks and she sported a messy apron. She bounced around the kitchen cooking all sorts of sweets. The aroma of fresh-baked treats always permeated the kitchen. And all this work, it had finally paid off. The family business, Chocolat Sweet Company had become extremely popular!

Rainier was unsure of whether or not to welcome the change. Sure it was nice to have money. They had good food, and warm beds to sleep in. But some of his friends had begun to shun him for his new-found wealth. They found being around Rainier awkward and uncomfortable. He had things they didn’t. Conversations always found a way to make Rainier look bad for being ‘richer’ than the other kids. Soon they had decided that he out right didn’t belong as part of their group.

Rainier was heartbroken; though his parents hadn’t noticed. Both his Mother Rose, and his Father, Julius, were too engulfed in business to pay it any mind. And now to make things worse he was confined to the Manor when the rest of the kids were goofing off in town. It was that or he would be asked to work in the shop. And that would take up the majority of his time. And there, in the shop, he could not escape the disapproving stares through the glass windows, from his former peers.

Rainier stared out his bedroom window longingly. He held out his palm against the cool glass, and squinted at the horizon. The sun was setting in the distance. Warm colors melted into the cool blues of the clouds. In his head he was formulating a plan.

That night, he would make a break for it, if only to see if he could truly give up the life of the rich and make a point to his parents. If all went according to plan he could be with his friends again, and hopefully his parents would understand.

Solo 2-The Meeting

It was late evening. Fluffy gray clouds blocked out most of the sky, sending what little moonlight there was in scattered beams across the ground.

“Looks like rain.”

It was a time when Ranier should have been in bed sleeping. But tonight was the night he has made arrangements to meet them. And hopefully they had told him the truth and would be at the set location in exactly 30 minutes. Footsteps echoed on the cobblestone streets. Rainier made his way into the city. He ran as fast as he could. They had to show up. They just had to. Time after time of not being granted permission to be in their presence because of his wealth, they had finally listened to what Rainier had to say. He wanted to talk to them, in someplace private where adults would not be found. He wanted to know more, about the war and more about his friends.

He had studied it in school. And even his private tutors had gone over it with him when he was taken out of school. War. He felt like he’d talked about it enough. But no one he knew had ever done anything about it.

Apparently some of them had already made the decision with or without their parents’ permission. Some of them were hungry for a fight, and others simply wanted an end to the current dispute, but of all them agreed that it was time to stop sitting on the fence doing nothing. It was pretty grown-up thinking for a bunch of kids. They all had their own reasons, but they were united at the helm. Together they would all seek guidance in the way of the fighter.

If they were honest with themselves they didn’t entirely mind Rainier’s appearance at this meeting. They had decided that the more people to aid their cause, the better. Even if it was some ‘pampered rich boy’.

So he appeared in the alleyway at the set time. And sure enough, the others had gathered there as well. One boy, with short, ruffled hair stepped forward. “So you made it, I see" giving Rainier a 'look'. “Did your nanny come too?” he teased.

“I don’t have a nanny,” Rainier, growled, looking slightly embarrassed at the thought. “You know that perfectly well,” he grumbled, crossing his arms.

But the boy grinned. He’d gotten the reaction out of Rainier that he was looking for. With a laugh, he waved his hand, and began the meeting.

They talked for what seemed like forever. Well, mostly the others did. Rainier found himself sitting, and listening quietly.

“So… we’ll need a teacher,” one of the others began, glancing around at the rest that nodded in agreement. “Someone who can teach us how to fight.”

“Yeah, but who? Do you know anybody?”

“I haven’t got any suggestions either.”

The group seemed disappointed. They didn’t have any leads to follow through with their plan.

Rainier stopped to think. He cooould possibly use the connections he had amassed when he became wealthy to find someone who could tutor them all. But what would they say to that? Would they shun the idea because it came from him? He pondered this for awhile until he noticed the others were staring at him.

“What? You have an idea Rainier?” the leader asked, pointing a finger at him irritably. “If you do, spit it out!”

Rainier took a deep breath. If they were serious about learning, he might be able to help. “Well I was just thinking, my family…they might be able to find someone to teach us. If you’re not too stuck-up to accept help from a ‘rich person’,” he added the last part with a slight snort."I mean, if you ARE serious, this could prove to be in your favor."

What would they say? He could feel his heart race as he waited for a reply.

The others looked at each other. They seemed to be torn. While they didn’t like accepting hand-outs and the like they still wanted to learn to fight. What if the war eventually found its way to the Celestial Plane? Then everyone here could be in danger too.

Finally one of the other boys stepped forward. “I-I wouldn’t mind.” His voice was nearly a whisper. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and kicked absent-mindedly at the ground. “I mean, it’s for everyone’s safety right? And that’s important.”

Rainier’s eyes lit up. So he had one take on his offer. That was enough to make him happy. Maybe they weren’t all bad after all.

Every-so-slowly the others came forward too. To Rainier’s delight, hey had all decided for letting Rainier be in charge of finding a teacher.

He had been accepted again! Now all that was left was to get home before anyone noticed he was missing. He practically skipped his way back to the manor, finally feeling the happiness of belonging once more.

Finding a Trainer

The large wooden door groaned on its hinges as Rain leaned against it, pushing it open. He stepped inside the blacksmith’s tentatively. He was more than a little nervous. He had met Gon the Blacksmith only once before and he was unsure of his stance on the war. But Gon was not only a blacksmith. He was also a combat instructor in his free-time, and Rain was desperate and determined to learn. Rain had even done some research as to what kind of weapon he would use. He had chosen the glaive. Hopefully Gon would agree to train him. After all, Rain wanted to be out on his own adventuring and aiding in the battles to come.

The dovaa boy stepped further inside, gazing around at all the armor and weapons that lined the walls of the shop. It was a bit intimidating. That’s when he spotted Gon. Further in back, Rain could feel the heat radiating from the forge. And standing there, tall and menacing was Gon. He was a hulk of a man, and beads of sweat ran down his face and body as he hammered on a large blade. He wore a dirty apron that showed wear and tear from being worn by a hard worker. His giant hands were calloused and he was covered in battle scars. Surely he had tales to tell.

“Um excuse me,” Rain began, clearing his throat loudly so Gon would hear.

The blacksmith stopped his work, and slowly turned to face Rain. He looked the boy over skeptically. What was a scrawny-looking pretty boy doing here in his shop? “Boy, what can I do you for?” his voice boomed. “Surely you’re not here to buy a weapon.”

Rain frowned, slightly irritated that he was being judged merely by his appearance. “Actually I AM,” he replied with a stern look. “And not only that, but … I want you to train me.”

Gon laughed, a loud boisterous laugh. “You amuse me kid. Tell me something then, why do you want to fight?” The look on Gon’s face was serious now. His eyes were intense.

Rain’s expression was also that of a sincere individual. His reply was short and to the point. “I want to protect. I want to protect all those that I care about.”

“You’re aware, I’m sure, of the war. What to do you intend to do about it?”

“Get involved of course. After all, I find it rare to see anyone here doing anything about it. But what if we’re not safe here? The Mara appeared out of no where. What if that happens here? I know our teachings say we are superior. But if we’re greater beings than why don’t we try and stop the war and help everyone?”

Gon was silent for a moment. Rain’s thoughts were pretty deep. The blacksmith had mixed feelings about training him though. He didn’t want to be responsible for a child getting hurt. Most of his students were older. But Rain seemed wiser beyond his years.

After awhile, Gon spoke. “Alright. I’ll do it. The training will be intense. But I expect you to make do. You won’t be a quitter. Understand?”

Rain nodded with enthusiasm. “You won’t regret this.”

After making the arrangements, they agreed to meet again in the evenings. It was the only time Rain could get away from his family secretly. He wasn’t prepared to tell them how he felt just yet. No doubt they wouldn’t approve of his need for adventure and battle. But he had to find a way to convince them, of that he was sure.

So I'm going to Leave

Rainier had worked out what he intended to say. He had written it down over and over again until he had it exactly right. Now he just had to explain it to his parents. Rain had been training for a few months now. He finally felt he was decent enough to go out on his own. He would still come back to train with Master Gon, but nothing compares to real battles. At least that’s what Rain had decided. Surely there were some creatures out there that he could test his wits and spear against.

He paced in his room, awaiting his parents return from work when there was a knock a the door. “Who’s there?” he called out.

“It’s the butler sir. Just as you requested, I came to inform you that your parents have arrived. They are waiting for you in the dining hall.”

“Thank you. I will be there momentarily.”

“Yes Sir.” And with that the butler was gone.

After scanning over his notes, Rain left his room and strode down the hall, His long sash whipping behind him. He arrived in the dining hall where his parents awaited with concerned expressions.

“Rain dearie, what’s going on? The butler says you have something important to tell us,” his mother asked. “And I just know you’ve been hiding something from us. Please tell us what it is.”

Rain sighed. “Mother. Father. There’s something we need to discuss. As you already know, I never really had any interested in the family business. As much as I like sweets, the call of the wild speak to me more. I’ve often gotten in trouble for getting scuffles and exploring on my own. But I think I’m old enough now to……….go out on my own.” He stopped there, eyeing his parents, wondering how they would react.

As he predicted though, his Mother burst into tears. “I knew it!” she cried. “I just knew it! You’ve been getting these crazy ideas. You spend to much time with those wild friends of yours.”

Rain grimaced. As much as he wanted to call them ‘friends’ he knew they would never treat him like a TRUE friend. He had decided that after his training with Gon. Now Rain wanted to leave and make new friends. Friends that truly cared for him and accepted him for who he was. And then there was the matter of the war at hand. But he had no intention of bringing that part up with his family. He would simply state that he had chosen to become a vagrant, and wander the exciting new world.

Rain’s father had remained oddly quiet, as if he was mulling it over in his mind. He knew Rain liked to disappear from time to time. And that he was avoiding learning to manage the business. But he never expected this of all things.

Just now Rain’s parents were coming to the conclusion that perhaps they had been neglectful of their son and focusing too much on the company. They hadn’t respected his wishes at all. Rose was still shedding a fountain of tears though.

“Listen….son,” Julius began. “Why don’t you….give us sometime. And we will ……discuss this in more detail, your mother and I. Then we’ll give you an answer.”

Rain’s eyes went wide. He had never even dreamed that they would give him a chance. He thought he would have to run away or something. Happy with this reply, he gave a nod. “Thank you Mother, Father. I will await your response.” And he turned to leave the room.

Julius sighed. “Apparently our boy is growing up.”

Rose simply pulled out a handkerchief and stifled a sob.

Rainier Leaves the Celestial Plane

The sky was gorgeous. The sun was just setting in the distance as Rain boarded the ferry that would bring him through the swirling Celestial Vortex portal. He was finally going to begin his adventures in Magesc. He watched his surroundings with much anticipation for he had only read about what the world of Magesc was like. His parents were reluctant, but they had agreed that he could travel. He had packed his things, bringing a few changes of clothes, a bit of food, a little money, and of course his weapon.

He gazed at the beautiful greens, blues, and gold that whirled around as the ferry passed through. His heart fluttered with excitement, and he almost couldn’t restrain himself from yelling ‘woohoo!’ as he stood on deck. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. ’Don’t shout,’ he told himself. ’You’ll only draw attention to yourself.’ His long, fur-trimmed coat billowed in the cool, winter breeze. And his long, brown hair flew out behind him, whipping around his face. In the spirit of it being Winter, he decided his first destination would be Ayr for he had heard many things about Everwinter Plateau and the Ruins of Nordaran.

Upon reaching the other side of the portal, Rain would need to board another series of boats to reach his destination. It would take him awhile to travel to the far away continent, but he knew it would be worth it when he got there.

The boat rides seemed like they took forever. The ship creaked and groaned as it swayed against the waves of the vast ocean. Rain sat on a bunk eating a bit of bread when he heard a voice call out, signaling his arrival in Ayr. He scrambled from his seat and packed away his left over food in a satchel, before swinging his weapon over his back and strapping it in place. Then he hurried up the stairs, swinging open the small wood door with circular window that lead outside to the main deck.

It was snowing! Rain held out his gloved hands and attempted to catch snowflakes. The sailors watched the boy run around with his hands held palms outward. With his giddy behavior, they merely laughed at him having a good old time.

A few of the sailors were kind souls who offered to guide Rain out of concern for his safety. “At least let us take you to the Inn,” they insisted. “We don’t mind at all.”

He politely declined, knowing full well what dangers might await him. But he wasn’t stupid; he knew there were creatures out there that he was incapable of handling. Hopefully he would not run into anything that he couldn’t escape from. This was more of a sight-seeing adventure. That, and hopefully he would make some new friends, should he meet anyone in this land, regardless of race.

With a grin, he rushed over to the dock. With a little help from the sailors, Rain was able to unload himself and begin his journey.

Reflection on Breath of Winter ORP

I road boat after boat until I reached my destination of Ayr. But I would stop along the way in various places to replenish supplies; after all, one has to east and sleep. It was a long journey, but totally worth it. I got to see all kinds of creatures, and meet all sorts of people. Everyone I ran into was pretty friendly so far, even with me being a Dovaa; considered to be the fence-sitters of the world. Of course, I am no fence-sitter. I came to see what was going on with my own two eyes and act as I see fit.

Today I climbed the mountains of Ayr. The winter cold nipped at my face as I marched onward. I wore a long, fur-trimmed cloak, with my hood stretched up over my long horns. Really, trying to keep my ears warm was difficult. Perhaps I should have opted for earmuffs rather than a simple hood. Hopefully I won’t get sick in the future.

I climbed up and up and up, until finally I saw a bunch of buildings built into the Cliffside. There were rickety bridges and ladders to get around. It didn’t look safe at all. I took a deep breath and was about to go inside when a voice caught my attention.

Outside the Inn that hung dangerously on the Cliffside, I met some new faces; Esme and Red who are both dovaa, and then Shenra, an Orderite. Esme and Red seemed a lot older than myself. But Shenra is younger. They all seemed friendly enough. I’ve never before seen an Orderite though. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Shenra was very kind, and I felt the need to look out for her, as she was the youngest in my adventuring party. Yes, my ‘party’ as we would enter a battle during our exploration.

Anyway, it’s my first time exploring outside the Celestial Plane, and I’m so very excited. As a group, we decided to go climb spires. We hiked awhile, slowly moving closer to the tall towers of rock, But then the fogged rolled in. It was very hard to see. The sound of angry bird creatures suddenly filled the air, catching out attention immediately.

It was an angry goup of vildeans. They squawked angrily at us as I moved to protect Shenra. Red on the other hand seemed hungry for battle. She was so excited, and asked me if I thought it was fun. Well I suppose, fighting for one’s life can be sort of a ‘magical’ experience. A life or death battle with your blade swinging through the air, your heart racing, sweat trickling down your face. There is an air of ‘excitement’ there I suppose.

I advanced on the vildeans and struck down the last foe. I’m very proud of myself. I feel a lot stronger. I also collected some feathers to decorate my glaive. And I also got a few sharp claws as a bonus. I’ll hang on to those. You never know if they’ll come in handy in the future.
