Atë stared out into the rift neither enjoying or appreciating the grand spectacle that was the night time world. It wasn't that she hadn't been impressed at first, she couldn't believe all this existing. All this power and corruption, the crystals and youma that haunted the very spaces. It was majestic and beautiful and above all amazing. Yet recently every time she had entered the rift she had be plagued with voices, echoing of some being out there telling her to do things. She had heard it in the waking world as well, in the factory when Bischofite had tried to collect the crystals to develop the portal. She had heard and she had listened to the voice when it had spoken to her but it was fragmented and hazy and she only heard it when her battle rage was at its peak, when nothing else mattered other than getting that punch in or squeezing the last breath of air from someones throat.

She didnt hear it always, try as she might she couldn't recreate the requirements to cause it to talk to her. Only when it wanted too. But she had found that here though in the rift it came more often, was louder and more demanding but again she could never predict when it would happen. So for the 5th time that month she found herself stalking the darkness, keeping her wits about her when ever she heard noise or a distant cry. This was no place for a Senshi, ever. She knew it all too well, she had heard the stories of what had happened to those that had come here unescorted. It wasn't pretty.

Yet she couldn't tear herself away, she needed to know if she was going insane or if there was a Youma or some idiot General messing with her mind some how, this lack of knowing was starting to get on her tits.

God she wished she could smoke down here.

Lyssa hadn't been around that morning so Atë had ventured into this dark place alone, stupidly. Even though the cat would have been little protection Lyssa seemed to know more about the rift than she let on and knew how to navigate it when to Atë the place seemed to eternally shift. Like right now, she was pretty dam sure she was lost...again.

"Bugger."

Unlike the Senshi inducted into the Negaverse, Alkaid was capable of wandering the rift freely. Somewhere between a corrupt and an ascendant, she had lost whatever piece of her the youma found more worthy of consumption than respect. Though she didn't come often, they always gave her a wide birth when she did, allowing her to walk freely among the blasted landscape that had once been beyond her grasp.

Tonight, though, she had realized that there was one that wouldn't be afforded such courtesy - and one that was bounds braver than she had ever been as a simple corrupt. That was interesting enough to grab her attention.

It hadn't taken much time to find her with that power signature, though for a long while she kept to the shadows. It was not much of a hiding place, not with an energy like her own, but it would be hard at such close proximity to determine what was her and what was the rift. It had a way of messing with people, she'd found. Not to mention all the practice she'd had with stalking the shadows; three years as she was, the lonely monster, and she had learned all there was to know about lurking where no one would really look. Just from the look on her face, Alkaid could tell that her presence wasn't what was on the other woman's mind. No wonder, considering she had to know her life was in danger every moment she was here.

From her place at a distance, Alkaid became aware of the youma that was stalking the corrupt before it ever dared get too close to the woman. She considered it from where she stood, concealed in the shadow of a large crystal. It was like watching a predator hunt its prey, only the prey was not something Alkaid felt inclined to let fall to the circle of life tonight. This wasn't even the circle of life at all, just a twisted beast hungry for the life it missed.

Corrupts didn't fall to such tragic fates.

When it settled on its haunches to spring, Alkaid swept out of her hiding place to intercept, revealing herself in a whirl of cape and hair. It leaped but landed with a skid once it realized its prey was not alone, sending little pebbles flying up as its claws fought to find traction on the hard-packed earth. Alkaid placed herself between Ate and its snarling jowls, unflinching in the face of what might have once been her own doom as well. One hand went up, the universal signal for stop, and her eyes narrowed onto the feline monstrosity.

"No. Leave."

Though it seemed hesitant, it tucked tail and turned, leaving Alkaid with her back to the corrupt. Her head turned slowly, letting her citrus gaze fall on Ate for the first time since she had revealed herself.

"It's rather silly to be down here alone."

It all happened so fast that Ate wasn’t even sure if was real. The mixture of auras seemed to exploded onto her senses, everything she had been seeking to avoid appearing all at once and she wasn’t ready, she wasn’t even prepared. She thought she would have a second to compose herself but this place, it wasn’t like earth, it messed with the best of minds and down her she was just another stupid plaything for the things that lurked in the dark. Well it had finally decided to come out and play and all she could do was grit her teeth and wait for the impact. This was how she was going to be remember, just another warning for other Corrupted Senshi too stupid to listen to the rules. Stupid. So bloody stupid.

And then she was there.

Ate had to take a second look at what was happening before she accepted what she saw. Never had she seen anyone move with such grace that for a moment she thought the woman was dancing, her cape floating behind her as she glided across the expanse in front of them before coming to a stop, her hand up and poised before the monstrosity and spoke.

And it was listening

She had only even see this type of command performed by a General but here was a Senshi, someone like her, but so obviously not that it was captivating. As she moved to face her Ate could see the delicate cracks along her skin, could feel the steady pulse of chaotic energy escaping ever so slowly and the power she commanded as the Youma practically slinked away with its tail between it legs. She was…..amazing.

“I’m…I’m just –“
Jesus I can’t speak “-I was looking for something, s-someone and…and…I” She stopped unable to continue as she processed what had happened, it was almost too crazy to comprehend and all thought to explain herself left her in a flurry. “I’m sorry but did you just command that Youma to stop? Seriously? I mean…you just told that big fecker to stop and it listened. It actually listened…Who are you? What are you? Your….your god dam amazing.” And she wasn’t joking, she had never in her life even seen someone like this woman before her and here she was stood in all her glory that for a moment Ate had a sudden panic that maybe this was a person she needed to give much more reverence too.

“Oh crap your not Metalia are you?”

As the corrupt began tripping over her own words, Alkaid found herself amused at the image before her. Sometimes she forgot that for all the similarities they still shared, corrupts were just human after all.

"You flatter me." A smile spread her lips as she turned to face Ate fully, revealing herself in all her shattered glory. The cape that had swirled up around her with her dash settled against the earth at her feet and her dreads fell into place, completing the image of a broken china doll all covered in shimmer and gold. "Though I must admit that I am not even a fraction of the glory that is Metallia, she is above even my comprehension, though I do owe her for all that I am." Though one might have expected a broken figure to be less pleased at what she had become, there was not a word to describe the ascendant but proud.

Now she did move, taking careful, precises steps forward on heels she knew better than her own bare feet. "I did command it though, yes." She stopped just short of the corrupt to stare at her with an open curiosity, letting her eyes drift from head to toe. She was strong and brave, of those two things she was already assured, though she had to wonder if she was also a bit foolish. All corrupt senshi knew the dangers of this place and had heard the warnings time and time again.

"What is your name?" She spoke just as her gaze shifted back up to Ate's eyes. It wasn't a demand, but there was a certain air that said she expected to be answered. Alkaid commanded a cool confidence earned by knowing who and what she was, something she found that many of her peers still lacked.

Ate felt the burning tinge of embarrassment hit her cheeks as she tried to ignore her fumble. For all her hard words, tough auction and confident demeanor she was easily thrown from this state when something that awed her came along. Right now she just wanted the rift to open up and swallow her whole for the Metalia comment, her mistake all too apparent as the woman smiled and spoke dismissing the claim. She needed to recover fast if she was to gain anything other than pity from this beautiful creature.

“s**t, of course you’re not! Am sorry, let me just - whooo - breath out, and start again."
She mentally composed herself to gain back any shred of decency she could muster and push the over excitable rockabilly persona to one side and allow Ate to take full control. This was obviously a being beyond her and she didn’t want to ******** it up by making her think she was an idiot. After all she could provide answers Ate had yet to find.

"My name is Sailor Ate, Senshi of Pollution. Am down here because am trying to find...God knows what...answers I guess, questions…an early grave by the looks of it." She pulled a face, a cross between desperation and fury. It was obvious that she hadn’t found the solution she was looking for and it was becoming more apparent that she probably wouldn’t.

"Am just...trying to find my way you know? Well you might not, I dont even know who you are, what you are. You obviously something special I can tell that just by looking at you but...heh, am rambling again aren’t I.” She shook her head slowly, berating herself again for letting her mouth carry on without her mind.

“Apologies, you’ve caught me on a really bad day and if it wasn’t for you it would have gotten a lot worse. Let me first thank you for calling off that Youma, I won’t deny tussling with that thing would have been fun but I doubt I would have left this place with all my digits still attached.”
Smiling she offered her hand, a strange symbol of normalcy set against the backdrop of this twisted place.

“Please, what’s your name?”

Ate, as she had just introduced herself, was a tumbling fountain of mixed emotions and uncertainty - but Alkaid didn't seem fussed about it in the slightest. There was no judgment there, but a soft, pleasant laugh that seemed a touch too delicate for such a broken figure. The ascendant herself had a minimal range of emotions but, as a mimic, she did love a good study in humanity. If she ever needed to act completely awed and confused, she had a wonderful reference now.

"I'm Ascended General Alkaid, formerly the Senshi of Guidance. I'm not sure if you should call me special, just one-of-a-kind due to some regrettably unfortunate circumstances." As she spoke, her eyes drifted out to the rift, as if she too might find some answer she was looking for among the dark, depraved landscape. In truth, she had no idea what she was looking for or what form it might take. It could be anywhere. Or nowhere. She had no clues. Sometimes she felt like she might as well be searching for the holy grail.

At last she simply looked back at Ate, as if only just remembering something that had been said by the girl.

"You're looking for answers?" A thin, blonde brow rose as she leaned towards the other senshi, staring at her eyes as if she might judge her words by the look of them. "Are you feeling lost?" The General straightened herself back up and propped the elbow of one arm in the palm of the opposite hand, then tapped her pale, cracked finger against her lips as she waited for Ate's answer.

It had been such a long time ago, but she knew that she had been born into darkness with a feeling of uncertainty. She'd been given duties, tasks, things to bide her time but it wasn't until she'd accepted her place as an Ascendant that the gloomy cloud of doubt had let her be once and for all. Other corrupts had seemed well adjusted in her time, complacent in their... place. Yet, here Ate was, eluding to something that had Alkaid's mind churning with a seldom felt anticipation.

At once the simple laugh had Ate relaxing, it was as if this very human emotion heard from an inhuman being settled her nerves, she didn’t know why but she visibly unclenched and found herself smiling back at the woman who was quite simply captivating. Ate had never seen cracks that pepper her skin so delicately like that before, the soft glow emanating behind them looked like she had a light bulb nestled in her chest somewhere and it was permanently on. She was so fragile looking yet, Ate couldn’t help but feel trepidation at her presence. She was certain, right away that this being was something else, something more powerful or maybe more gifted than she. It filled her mind with possibilities only sparking further as she explained her previous role.

“Ascended…so…you became like this? After your corrupt-” She stopped suddenly thinking of Lyssa, although she hardly wanted too, and knew the Guardian would be despising her for using the word corrupted. She claimed they were never corrupted, but were enlightened, awakened and reborn by the Goddess’s mercy. It was a little difficult to swallow but seeing Alkaid as she was Ate couldn’t help but feel the shiver of those words. She had obviously been recreated in the most amazing sense. “H-how? Am sorry to ask but…Your aura alone is just…something else. What ever happened to you, its…astounding. Your so beautiful.”

Ate was use to hitting on girls with that line but this time she truly was remarking at how beautiful the Ascended Senshi was. She glowed against the backdrop of the rift a radiant conflict to the shifting clouds of purple and black, she was delicate in a physical way but Ate could only guess at the strength she had over her magic. Surely she was something else entirely. She felt herself blabbering again only to be saved by Alkaid asking her if she felt lost. The answer to that came too easily for the Eternal Senshi and she nodded slowly as she explained further.

“Yes…more than I would like to admit. I don’t know if you visit the surface much anymore but…I feel more and more like I don’t belong there, with them. And not in one of those “am such an emo” type of ways either.” She said jokingly not worrying if Alkaid would understand the reference before continuing. “Everything about them, the people, their lives. I cant relate…I can’t seem to function like I use too. And yet I come here and I am rejected. Don’t get me wrong am not trying to gain sympathy or be analyzed or fixed…I just…I no longer want to be there, but I cant be here either.”

She could have gone on about how she was losing her humanity, that she didn’t ever blink twice about hurting someone to the point of death or how when she fought it was the closest thing to excasty that she could gain.

And how at night the whispers would come again and again.

Felyn
So sorry for the late tag!!

Although Alkaid had been ascended for years, she still found that Ate's reaction was the most common one, more often than not. As much as she was growing weary of having to explain herself and her creation to her more human companions and enemies, she'd recognized that it was in part her own fault. If she'd been more apt to involve herself with the rest of the world in the first place, she might've been well enough known that she didn't have so many of these awkward first introductions. She hadn't, though.

At least Ate wasn't telling her that she was a monster as so many of the white moon's allies liked to do. It was refreshing to see someone properly in awe of what Metallia was capable of and that, at least, kept Alkaid calm enough to begin the process of explaining herself, once again. The ascended senshi began to walk and, as she did, waved Ate to follow her. She didn't bother to wait before she began to speak - she was confident the girl would keep up.

"There is one thing that is stolen from us when we leave the White Moon behind and join Metallia's ranks. Travelling. You can't go to your home world, nor can any of the corrupts, and I think it's a big part of feeling so lost. Senshi don't belong here on Earth, obviously, but nor can the dark ones go home. It's quite the.. conundrum." Alkaid's pace was slow as she strode along through the rift, like she was simply taking a stroll through the park. The hand she had been tapping against her lips dropped and that arm joined the other, crossed over her chest. "There was a man I knew, once. He was something beyond this war here, a creature of the cosmos. He took me home in a moment of pity."

For a moment, her words trailed to silence as she recalled the look in Kurma's eyes the last time they had crossed paths. He was so deeply saddened by what she'd done and she, broken as she was, had no ability for empathy. She understood it but even now, she could not regret what she'd done. Yet the memory still haunted her from time to time, as if she'd failed something greater than herself for not at least being able to mourn her past. Such was the sacrifice.

"When I stepped foot on that sandy planet, so did Metallia, and her power reached beyond this Earth for the first time in a very, very long time. She asked me to give her everything that I had and I did, without question." She turned her head to look at Ate then, a calculated stare that was trying to drink in the corrupt's reaction to her tale. "He would never do the same for anyone else, not after what was done, not after this. I'm afraid he doesn't see the beauty in my sacrifice quite like you do. Yet I did it all the same, and I was rewarded by her for my faith."

Instead of just continuing to stare sidelong at Ate, she finally stopped and turned herself to face the corrupt once more.

"I don't stay in the rift very often. My home world is where I prefer to be when I'm not in Destiny City hunting." One pale arm unwound from her chest and she held out her hand between them. An invitation. "Would you like to see it, Ate?"

Ate needed no second bidding to follow Alkaid out into the rift, like having a personal bodyguard Ate felt incredibly safe as she walked in the wake of Alkaid’s unearthly glow. Even now she was shunned into silence and watched her walk with feline grace, like a dancer always ready to pirouette at a moment’s notice.

Sadly while enraptured by her Ate had no idea how her questions may be affecting the Ascended. If she stopped to think for even a second she would have realised that Alkaid was probably use too but also annoyed by having to explain herself time and time again. Although not on the same level Ate got pissed when someone asked her why she had corrupted let alone if she was human or not (she had conveniently adapted her answer to a fast jab in larynx depending on who asked.) Yet this hardly the same, there probably wasn’t a day goes by that she wasn’t stared at or questioned. Yet sadly the corrupt didn’t see the error in her mental probing and continued to think of things to ask even as Alkaid answered.

As she listened Ate was taken aback by the mention of her abandoned planet, she had never thought that her emptiness was associated with her asteroid in any way. If anything she hated the place. There she had found her people willing to chain her ancestor in an unbreakable orb to keep the asteroid liveable. Without the constant work of the Senshi the asteroid would have been swamped in the pollutive gas the citizens had made effecting killing everything that lived there. It wasn’t their pride to remain on their asteroid to continue to claim solvency and refusing help and a new home at the cost of the people and their health that angered Ate. It was witnessing the old Senshi hanging by her arms in chains as she was electrocuted again and again to force her to stir the toxic fog into the vents and out into space. It was watching her wither and die alone before the orb was opened and cleared out before replacing her with a girl no older than 12 being strapped into the chains and chair, her crys echoing though the room she found herself in locked away from the world.

It was a memory she cared little for nowadays but as an Order Senshi it had cemented some final thoughts. She could hardly call herself a upstanding person compared to the ones who ruled then but for some reason it pissed her off to know her ancestor or maybe even herself had been strung up and forced to work day in and day out until she ran dry and was replaced. Now if that was to happen it would be on her own terms not for some selfish Queen.

As Alkaid spoke further snapping Ate out of her memories she couldn’t help but think of the implications standing on her asteroid would mean. Could she too be like Alkaid? The mere thought sent a chill down her spine but a good one. One that she had to admit she wanted. Yet the thought was quickly dashed as she uttered that this man who had helped her wouldn’t do it again.

“Oh…that’s a shame…not even if I beat him into it?”
She said it more as a joke but she wasn’t past giving that option a go.

As Alkaid turned and asked the question Ate audibly inhaled, her eyebrows shooting up as the offer was given. Shocked she hadn’t expected such an invite but the feeling of curiosity and excitement was too much for her to ignore as she looked at the hand being offered to her and stepped slightl forward, her enthusiasm bubbling over into her words.

“Holy s**t yes.”

Felyn
You can ignore like the top half, all that time waiting for Ate just to say yes >_<
PostPosted: Thu Jul 16, 2015 1:21 pm

Ate's enthusiasm was nearly a better answer than her words and, despite all of her muted positive emotions, she found that there was a certain pleasure in finally finding another soul so eager to see the true might of Metallia's strength. Her long, pale fingers curled around Ate's hand, harder to the touch than a human's would be and by far warmer with all the energy pulsing beneath the surface.

"If you find Kurma, you're welcome to try." Something about the way Alkaid spoke his name drew forth a certain fondness and maybe, just maybe, the only ounce of regret she could find in her heart. Even that was not enough to deter her from her true purpose and she didn't linger long enough to let Ate ask questions about him. Once her hand was secured on the corrupt's, the link complete, her energy began to change. The soft glow in her chest pulsed and spread along every crack in her hardened flesh, the tell-tale sign of an ascendant calling her magic, and the energy signature surrounding her began to grow and hum.

In a flash of brilliant orange light, they left the rift behind and when Alkaid finally released the corrupt's hand, they were in a place both similar but at the same time, quite different...

Alkaid’s true home was upon a lonely, charred ball of a planet encased in crystal, orbiting a large and obviously dying star. The star, for which Alkaid was truly named, pulsed in the heavens above with a deep, dark red glow, swollen and crackling with energy darker than any light. The sky itself had been reduced to little more than a red haze above them, showing the details of the universe outside the depleted atmosphere with startling detail.

What it had once been was impossible to guess, the people and its culture lost without Alkaid herself ever knowing. It was just as well, as the knowledge had never been there to impede her decision. Now the only thing that remained was a large castle, most of which had been destroyed and rebuilt. The base level, including a large entry hall, seemed to have been constructed from something akin to hardened sandstone, though it had been blackened by a considerable blast of energy. Crystal grew from the remains, molded into towers and hallways built by something greater than Alkaid herself, so high that the gleaming tips raked the thin atmosphere swirling overhead.

Alkaid stood calm and serene here, staring out over the vast wasteland surrounding her home fort. Here and there were the remnants of structures, outlines of roads, all of it so obliterated and blackened that there was no way to even guess what might have been before. For miles it stretched, endless. The charred, cracked earth beneath her feet stirred to life at her mere presence, black energy drawn out to refill her ever-depleting personal supply. It curled up around her legs like dark fingers, appraising the long lines of her calves before it sank into her flesh through the spiderweb of cracks. The ascendant obviously relied upon her planet in a way that no other corrupt could claim to and, even by showing Ate, she was giving away a considerable weakness. Without her world, she might not live at all.

"There is no other place in this universe that feels more like home to me," she said suddenly, having assumed that, by now, Ate had plenty of time to adjust to being ripped through space so suddenly. "I can't say if it will be the same to you, but I can assure you that it is safer than the Rift you were wandering alone."

Matisha
We could probably wrap it up soon if you just want to have them wander through the land for a while 'off stage'. At least now there is reference.

Alkaid was right, there was no time to utter another word before the orange light consumed them, dragging them through time and space and throwing them out on the barren land that was Alkaid's planet. Ate had forgotten the experience of teleporting off earth, the talent having been snatched away from her when she corrupted. A final <******** you" from the Order side as it closed off any source to her home planet and the connection she had with it. It didn't seem like any major loss at the time, she hated the place, but now standing here in the mists of Alkaid planet she couldn't help but gasp in amazement.

Slowly, her eyes traveled across the landscape, taking in the red angry sky above them, skirting over the damaged structures and broken roads. The crystals scattered everywhere reminded her so much of the rift it was almost like they hadn't left. But this place, it had a completely different feel, the way it reacted to Alkaid. It welcomed her. Embraced her. As she watched the ground move and the smoke appear she took a step back, her alarm not in fear but it concern over disrupting something that was obviously important. As she watched Alkaid literally soak in the dark energy, Ate finally found her voice.

"This is...is unbelievable." She whispered, unsure how loudly she could speak without shattering this bewitching illusion. Heart pounding she opened her senses to the world around her, trying to grasp the feeling of chaos that swam through the planets core, through its very veins. She touched upon its surface and marveled at the power that echoed all around her. Focusing she tried to feel for the hatred and rage that she was so use to in the Rift and found it distinctly lacking, although an underlying tone of weariness spiked at her senses. Yes, she was a stranger that did not belong here, but she didn't need to fear.

"Heh...I think your planets tolerating me, for now. I'll try and not piss it off while am here." Nervous laughter fluttered out before Ate could stop it from passing her lips. Trying to look less like a fool she took a few steps around, tried to concentrate once more on the planet and indeed Alkaid who now stood in her element. To pass up an opportunity to discover something that could help her gain what Alkaid had achieved would be the greatest crime. And yet, what she glimpse was something she could never understand.

Sighing she looked back over at the stoic statue that was Alkaid, smiling at everything she was and represented. She was this planets creation, a masterpiece of two immense forces joining together and creating life. Beautiful chaotic life. And something Ate could never possibly gain on her own.

"I...never thought a planet could feel like this. I...cant connect myself, but I sense it's need for you, yours for it. Like your somehow joined, linked, so...I guess this is what you mean when you say we lost something when we corrupted."

She hated her planet yes, but this. She could feel what she had lost. What Alkaid had meant when she said it was the reason she felt empty inside and the reason she would never feel accepted back on earth or in the rift.

But also what it meant she would gain back if she ascended...

With fire behind her eyes Ate's smile grew wider, a determination in her stance as she beckoned towards her idol, her new life goal

"Alkaid, please, show me more..."

Felyn
I can take that as my finishing post if you wish!! *walks off into the sunset*

There was something undeniably satisfying about the way Ate looked at the world around her. It was as much a part of Alkaid as her own flesh and bones and up until now, it had been impossible to impose the gravity of what her world meant to her upon others. Yet, the way Ate's eyes traced every detail, the way they widened as they took it all in.. here was the soul she was searching for.

"I'll show you everything, Ate. Just follow me."

With a renewed sense of purpose, she turned and headed for the glimmering castle in the distance.
