The blonde woman stretched, feeling her shoulder pop and neck creak. Shards she was stiff! And tired of hearing all the talk about if the right choice had been made in regards to breaking shells. The crimsonrider just rolled her eyes at her 'fellows'. Shaffing idiots. They needed all dragons! And now more than ever. There was no time to be so shaffing picky!

My love, why are you in such a mood today? Erinaeth was sunning, crimson wings spread to catch the most light. She turned her head to glance back towards where her rider had been pacing.

"I can't stand how these wherries think some of the time!" She grumbled, uncrossing her arms to rub at her temples. "Sometimes I wonder if the Weyrs are growing lazy." Surely they were something if they thought letting a much needed dragon die was better than putting a little extra work into caring for them!

Fools will be fools. But we are better than that. And the vote was yes regardless.

"The fact there was even a vote to begin with is what irritates me." Arlii sighed, moving to lean against Eri's side. "Keller preaches about equality and s**t. But turns his nose up at atypicals?" It was the one of the major doubt she had about where she'd placed her loyalties. Erinaeth crooned softly, lowering her head to bump it against her bonded. "I'm sorry, Eri. I know you don't like it when I'm grumpy."

On the contrary, it can be quite amusing. She said with a sly note to her voice. But maybe we'll find someone of interest to distract you from such glum thoughts?

"I hope so. I need a distraction." Arlii sighed.

scolded the dragon.

“Psh.” said Z'radi,

huffed Z'radi. Though she could not between safely and efficiently without her rider, she found other things to occupy her. Hauling goods around Malvren, for one thing. Hunting whers. Hunting tunnelsnakes. Organizing work groups. The dragon had learned how to keep herself busy.

Normally, her rider was all for it, but not today: today, Z'radi was determined to have a day to herself. she sent to her dragon. Her dragon had the first say in most things – but today Z'radi was the boss.

Z'radi was going to the Starcrafters to look at starcharts and get a sense of what she'd be looking at in the sky – it was still a favorite hobby of hers, and she pitched in with the starmaps now and then when she couldn't avoid the gruntwork.

As she passed by some lady – one of the Crimson riders, shaff if she remembered which one - a cursory glance told her – she couldn't help but overhear the conversation.

Admittedly it was only a fragment, and the lady was clearly talking out loud to her dragon (which was completely normal in a weyr), but Z'radi heard enough to stop and consider. Honestly, the discussion was a usless one. The votes had spoken – Atypicals would be born. That was just great: they needed more wings in the skies.

But everybody was calling it an 'equality' thing or, just as bad, 'helping out the runts'. Both of them, to Z'radi, were complete herdbeast dung. She had the irrational urge to go over and correct the woman, just for the hell of it: Z'radi hadn't done anything properly combative in a while.

she said. It was her day, and she could do any illogical thing she shaffing well pleased, shardit.

“Hey.” she said on the border of rudely, walking up to the crimson pair, “Who said it had anything to do with equality?”

That almost rude voice that spoke up beside them had Arlii blinking owlishly. She hadn't made any enemies here (that she knew of anyways) and neither she or Erinaeth had done anything to garner irritation today. Unless it was just one of those shaffing idiots that had a thing against crimsons. Arlii sighed through her nose. This was not what she needed. OH. So it was one of those types.

"Considering those are the words preached to us that we are expected to roll over and worship... I'd say it was a fair assumption." She still leaned back against Erinaeth, arms crossed as she eyed this woman.

Mine, do try to be nice. Your mood is not improving otherwise.

"The shaff is it to you, anyways?" She asked, ignoring her own dragon, who regarded the two rider's with darker blue eyes.

“Pah.” Z'radi spat. “Sure, equality. That's the watchword, isn't it?” She cricked her neck, “That's all anybody thinks about... Equality. What...” she said, walking up, “You look at a greenrider” she gestured to her knots irreverently, “And you think we're judging you because your dragon took a little help to hatch?!” she barked a laugh, “That's wherryshit.”

Rotatonth did the mental dragon equivalent of a double face palm. she said, chagrined, but she knew hers was feeling combative. There was nothing to be done but watch helplessly as her rider proceeded to be an a**.

she said to Erinaeth.

Z'radi ignored her. “You know what we're judging you for? Whining about equality. Look here, this wherhold? I'm worth as much as any other rider now. That's shaffing equality.”

She crossed her arms, her jaw set, her dark eyes blazing with smug energy. “You wanna know why I voted against atypicals, huh?” she smirked, “Do ya?”

Rotatonth reiterated, resigned.

"Oh is it?" Arlii inquired, keeping her face impassive as this one was clearly a shaffing bullheaded wher in human skin. She merely glanced at the rider's knots with a shrug. "If you don't hold yerself in high esteem, that's not my problem. And clearly, ye were seeing as my dragons predecessors were never given a chance to live, since your 'unjudgemental' ways were to just treat 'em like duds!" Now there was a spark in her gaze.

Really, Mine. You shouldn't rise up to the challenge. Though this will be quite entertaining to share with some of the others... Erinaeth added after a minute.

The crimson sighed at Rotatonth. It is alright. Ours will be... themselves.

Arlii snorted, standing up straighter. "If everything were so equal, as you say, then why don't you shaffing see more crimsons and silvers standing here as equals to you?" Probably because they had all wisened up and fled for another Weyr, she figured. Instead of being a stubborn a** like she was. "No, I really don't wanna know. But you're going to tell me anyways, so let me guess. You couldn't read the choices?"

Mine. The crimson scolded, eyes whirling slowly towards a yellow-red color. I apologize for Mine as well., she said to Rotatonth.

XD you should see my next post razz

“Hey, I didn't say we weren't judgemental.” snorted Z'radi. This one was an idiot, “Just that you got the reason wrong.”

She shrugged, “And they were duds. They were duds until someone broke 'em out. Then they weren't. You know why you don't see so many crimsons, silvers, and blacks around? Because there Ain't so shaffing many. Just in general. It's a population thing!”

Duh.

“Yeah. You're going to hear it anyway.” Z'radi grinned, fierce as a wher. “Nice guess, lady, but I can read just fine. I can read star charts, too: bet you can't do that.” she couldn't resist a little bragging... those things were tricky.

“No, my reason was resources. Yeah, resources. Nothing about equality or the vast effort in breaking a shell with a shovel" her voice dripped with irreverent sarcasm, "Or some shaffing wherryshit about fitness or whatever the wherhandlers go on about. Resources.” She stretched her neck, waiting – daring, rather – the crimsonrider to ask her what the shaff she meant.

murmured the green, disgruntled, The green took flight, heading towards her rider – not to provide backup... goodness no... but to interfere if things got... bad. she said,

Really, it was just her curse to wind up with such shaffing idiots having a thing or two to say to a crimsonrider. It wasn't the first time or the last time she'd had a confrontation with someone. At least it was all dragon colors and rider's that she'd had to deal with at some point or another. Except for other atypicals and golds.

Mine.

"A population thing?" Arlii asked, tones slipping into a more savage sound. "Would you slaughter a herdbeast if it couldn't be brithed without help? Would you sacrifice a child if it got twisted and needed more drastic measures to be born?!" Her eyes flashed. "Of course you wouldn't! Oh no, but let a few eggs get smashed and shoved aside because they are in need of help! For the sake of a 'population thing'?!"

Mine calm down. It's really not worth it. The crimson tisked, head shaking and tail twitching.

Resources? Oh by the golden egg! Her hands had balled into fists by this point. And the urge to knock some of the ludicrous things from this rider's head was strong. She just gave a humorless laugh instead. "Right. Resources. Now why didn't we all think of that when the greens started popping up like flowers?" This one should have been a wher in some other life.

Erinaeth snorted at the green as she appeared. Unfortunately, yes. I do. But this is nothing new. Mine can be quite stubborn. Her tail suddenly swung down between the two rider's in warning. There was to be no fighting! It doesn't help she's been a little upset the past few days in general. She gave Rotstonth the long suffering stare any dragon with an obnoxious rider would know.

“I said resources, wherrybrain, clean your ears out. Ain't said nothing about culling. I'm just saying you lot are rare. Not many of you around, because not many of you around. It's simple math, anybody ought to get it.” she said, her snide smirk turning the phrase into an insult, “Cept, of course, you. What, didn't learn your maths when you were younger?” Z'radi smirked, “As for greens and flowers...” she started, smugly, rising to the bait.

Rotatonth flew swiftly across the weyr,

Z'radi knew full well it was bait. She wanted the bait. She proceeded to ignore the dragon in her head, excited at the prospect of a good brawl, her own fists ready to throw a good punch, just for the hell of it. “Why didn't you think of that, eh?” she asked, stepping closer, “Why didn't you all just shoot the greens out of their shell, hmm? If we're such a shaffing drain, and you all aren't...” she drew closer, smirking “Why don't you shaffing show me?”

Rotatonth alighted on a perch nearby and took a personal, visual stock of the situation. She had a feeling she would have to step in soon, though the crimson beat her to it. She understood that look all too well, and let out a dragonic sigh.

she said, gliding to just opposite the crimson. She stepped in between them, moving a foreclaw to push Z'radi out of the way.

“Hey!” protested Z'radi, glaring up at first the crimson, then her own dark-mottled dragon, “Watch it!”

she said, insinuating herself between her rider, the dragon, and the other rider, a double wall of dragon now between them. she said to both the dragon and Z'radi, saying 'counterproductive' as if it was the direst of curses,
