gonna pop some tags (wednesday)
Ian liked shopping as much as the next guy did, but shopping for what he had in mind was, to say the least, stressful.
He'd already been to four different stores, picked out six different things, changed his mind about all of them, gone back, changed his mind, picked out another three things, changed his mind about two of them, almost bought the third, changed his mind again, and then finally took a break.
Sitting on a bench in the middle of the mall, Ian leaned back and stared at the ceiling, trying to calm himself down because it should not be this ******** hard to do this.
(Except it totally was.)

This was still so hard. He was overwhelmed by choices.
Ian tried the next store, discovered that it had all the wrong things, and promptly left again.

Ian took a five minute break and went and got himself a pretzel while simultaneously trying to decide how on earth people managed to do this without exploding internally or externally all over the place.

smell as sweet (thursday)
The flower shop was much less stressful. Ian ordered a dozen roses (red, instead of pink, as he normally would have, because red was supposed to be more romantic, or so he'd heard), and then, just on impulse, some pink carnations and yellow tulips.

He'd forgotten the tulips at the store and had to run back to get them, feeling all sorts of apprehensive, nervous, anxious, excited, thrilled, and everything all at once. It was a big step - the biggest he had ever taken - and it had to be right.
Or, at least, it had not to suck.

jingle bell rock (tuesday)
"Look," said Ian, trying to be patient. "All I want to know is whether or not you have this CD - " He pointed at the space where it should have been, which now housed only a single piece of flimsy cardboard portraying the album cover in its place. " - still in stock. I asked the other girl, and she said she'd check, and that was about fifteen minutes ago. I think she must have gotten sucked into a black hole or something."
The sales clerk did not look impressed with his jokes, sloping off with a sigh toward the double doors at the end of the small room. He disappeared behind them, and Ian stood there waiting, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans.
Five minutes later, he had both the CD and a disgruntled sales clerk, who had discovered his previous employee smoking a joint in the storage room and who had also forgotten completely about helping Ian out earlier.
{ No wonder she took so long. } Naomi remarked.

jingle bell rock (tuesday)
He tried to remember what Jack had told him - which was that he shouldn't be nervous, because Jack had said they were made for each other and that everything would be fine, and since Jack was always right, he shouldn't be worried.
Ian took a deep breath, steadied himself, then stepped into the next store, the name of which had something to do with menswear.

He got a ribbon to tie around the stems of the rose bouquet and spent several moments trying to figure out how to make it look just so. After three tries, Ian thought he'd gotten it down; two more ribbons were wrapped around the carnations and the tulips. White ribbons for all three, tied fumblingly, and somewhat messily, but with all the care in the world of someone who was doing their absolute best.
