Lullaby didn't like this, no she didn't like this at all. Her naive, sweet sister was in love with some strange stallion that she had stumbled upon just a week before. Lullaby didn't like him, this 'Mest'. He gave her bad vibes, and there was an odd hardness to his eyes that she didn't quite trust. She did not know for sure, but when she saw him interacting with her sister, it seemed fake, listless. How her twin could not see the absolute hoax of a stallion both perplexed and terrified Lullaby. But there was not much she could do. She was not strong physically, and Mest was large and bulky, adorned with bones and skulls (and if that wasn't an indicator of his true nature, Lullaby didn't know what was). All she could do was bide her time and continue to try to get her sister to move on to a different area with her. Away from this toxic stallion that would undoubtedly hurt her.

Whiskey knew her sister didn't approve of her choice in stallion, but a darker part of her wanted to snap that Lullaby was the one that had toyed around with two different stallions' hearts before they both found out and left her in the dust. Whiskey was not going to let Lullaby's bitterness ruin the thing she and Mest had. Oh, Mest. Whiskey couldn't help the girlish giggle that sprang from her smiling lips at the thought of the mysterious and fascinating stallion that had happened upon her in that clearing. He was so haunting and charming, and thought it had not been that long since they had met, Whiskey couldn't help but feel like she was falling head over hooves for Mest.
He had promised to come see her today on his scouting rounds, and she was so very excited to see him.

He had fallen so low. So, so incredibly low. His heart had been torn out of his chest, and, ever since the betrothal had been announced to the herd, the black hole residing there had been growing bigger and bigger. He had isolated himself from the herd once more, only coming out of his cave when absolutely necessary for his scouting rounds and general herd duties. He took extra shifts, letting those stallions with loved ones stay back with their families while he roamed the borders. Alone.
It was pure luck that he had stumbled upon a doe-eyed mare with her tail stuck in a thorn bush one day. He had helped her, and she had been so eager to know him. It was something completely new to him. Blatant romantic interest was never something he encountered in his herd. Most of the herd regarded him with respect and often fear, especially since he'd been in a darker mood lately. The mare, Whiskey, was like a nice temporary balm to his sore and betrayed soul. But other than a temporary fix to his moodiness, she wasn't much to him. He felt no romantic feelings towards her, not like he felt for Uzor. Uzor....
Mest growled to himself, grinding his teeth together. No, he had to get that stallion out of his head. He was promised to another, the herd head's daughter at that, and Mest could not intervene. Right now he needed a distraction, and that meant doing another 'scouting round' to the edge of the borders, particularly to the little flowery clearing Whiskey and her sister lived in. Mest nodded to himself, his destination clear, and continued walking.

Lullaby's frown was prominent on her face when she heard the giggle come from her sister. It was so painfully obvious that she adored this stranger and, ugh, Lullaby was torn. The thought of leaving Whiskey to her doomed love life and going off on her own somewhere had been bouncing around Lullaby's head for a while. But could she really leave her twin? They hadn't been separated since they were foals. Ever since Mest came into the picture, their relationship had gotten rocky. They bickered all the time about every little thing, especially if Lullaby mentioned Mest. Maybe the time had come to move on.
A rustling noise announced the presence of the stallion who had become such a thorn in her side. She snorted, sent Whiskey a withering look, and got up and left. She'd rather be anywhere but near the two of them.

Whiskey sighed as her sister left, disappearing past the treeline. She could tell they were reaching a breaking point, but had no idea how to remedy the situation without sacrificing her relationship with Mest. And that was something she was just not willing to do. And speak of the devil.
Her big handsome stallion sauntered into the clearing and Whiskey almost melted into the grass below her. She grinned, quickly getting up and skipping over to him with bright eyes and an eager neck nuzzle as soon as she was close enough.
"Mest, how was the walk? I missed you," she cooed, looking up into his golden eyes.

He didn't answer her. He leaned into her touch, and let her guide him to her favorite spot under the tree. His chest ached and he couldn't help but think about how wrong it was for him to keep up this facade.
But he continued anyway. And the darkness in him grew.
