General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

Chris stood outside the entrance to the cavern, staring in skeptically. He wasn't sure doing this was in his best interests. Maybe he should just... head back to the moon course? That would be much easier. What did he need to do a Death course for anyways?

He squinted at the cave. It was mocking him.

Finn arrived at the cavern, ready to take on another one of these training courses. In the last few days, he had finally mastered the "battle dome" that was the Life's training course, consisting for building a jenga tower, of all things. He had also managed to hack his way through the shadowlings of the Sun course, but now he figured it was time for a brand new challenge.

And he'd heard that this one could be absolute hell to complete.

He wasn't expecting somebody else to be there at the same time as him, and he stopped to look the other guy over, frowning a little as he thought that he looked rather familiar.

"Oh, hey. Chris, right?" He asked, realizing that it appeared to be Chel's cousin. "You plan on going in?"

"Huh?" Chris turned a bit to face the voice, and squinted at the man. Clearly this was someone he should recognize, if they knew his name. After a second his face seemed to click. "Oh yeah! Finn isn't it? Chel's friend?" He grinned like he was proud for remembering. "I was going to go in buuuut... it looks a bit ominous."

He frowned back at the entrance. "Have you ever done this one before?"

He nodded to indicate that Chris was correct, on both his name and his status with Chel, though it was always hard for Finn to admit that he had any actual "friends" in this world.

He smirked when the other man admitted to the cavern appearing to be ominous, but took a few steps forward to gaze inside for himself. "It can't be that bad. We'll be using golems so whatever happens will happen to our golem bodies, and not our own." Not that it made it much better since they still basically got to live out the experience, it just meant that their own physical bodies wouldn't have to endure whatever their mind did.

Or something like that. All that was really important was that this wasn't going to actually kill him.

"Nah, haven't had a chance before now. Thought I would check it out. Come on don't be a p***y." His smirk widened, and he gestured for the other man to go on in.

Chris was nodding along, as everything Finn said made sense. But then he scrunched his face up. "I'm not a p***y!" he protested loudly. If there was one thing that would get him to move, it was probably that. He marched into the cave and picked out a pod.

The feeling of losing himself in the pod and reawakening in a golem was always weird as hell. "Okay. We can do this. It's just dumb death training it can't be that bad."

Finn was chuckling to himself once Chris protested and moved on into the cavern. He eyed the pods with some amount of trepidation in his gut. For all of his reassurances, he was not actually a fan of being in golem, and his face had fallen into a grim line as he entered one for himself.

Awakening in a golem body was, as always, somewhat unnerving. Looking around, he spotted the Chris golem and moved towards him.

"Right." He agreed, though he hardly seemed very convinced. He moved to the edge of the field, staring out across the expanse that was apparently formed predominantly of horrible death traps.

And then he just stood there, because for all his words, he definitely wasn't about to go first.

Chris waited a beat, seeing if Finn would take the helm. But, apparently not. It was up to him to prove his worth. He took his first step out onto the grid...

And immediately fire began to lick out over his legs, hissing as if it were caused by some gas flow he couldn't see. He gave a startled shout and tried to swat the flames away, but as quickly as there were there they were gone, leaving painful, fresh burns in their wake. "What the ********!"

Finn smirked when the other man went out first, and watched with a neutral expression as the first step he took made the floor around him erupt into flames. That made him wince, internally, but he reminded himself repeatedly that he was in a golem, and whatever happened, while it might hurt or be completely terrifying, it wasn't going to kill him.

Steeling his nerves, he took his first step out onto the platform.

Absolutely nothing happened. He let out a breath that he hadn't realized he'd even been holding. "Not so bad!" He called out towards Chris. "At least you're not dead yet?"

He was smiling that typical cold smile of his when he said it.

"At least least you're not dead yet," Chris mocked. "Dude you didn't even get touched. You suck."

He probably just have been paying more attention to the grid than to Finn, because he took a step forward and something in the tile under his foot clicked. With the menacing sound of metal cutting through air, long blades came shooting up from the floor. The tore through his golem's body, and he was left limp and shredded before he could even scream.

He came to in the pod, panting heavily. He wiggled his toes and fingers, checking that his limbs were still there. "s**t s**t s**t."

1 ->2 (using flag)

Finn had been just about to respond, when Chris took another step and his golem was shredded by machinery.

......Well s**t.

Feeling slightly more paranoid now, Finn took one of the flags he had been given, and struck it down on the tile in front of him just in case.

The tile exploded, nearly taking his arm off with it and sending him careening to a tile to the side instead. A small click was his only warning, before arrows were suddenly being shot at him from the side. He ducked, arms going over his head, but one managed to lodge into his shoulder, another into his ribs.

Wow okay this really, really sucked, golem body or not.

His flag was destroyed, and he had no options left but to just move forward and hope to whatever higher power might care to save him (laughable), that he would be all right.

He gingerly took the next step, hissing in pain from the arrow wounds (he hadn't bothered pulling them out), and braced himself for whatever was to come next.

Which was apparently nothing. He was too worried to even think about relaxing, though.

He was breathing a little heavily now, but he bit the bullet and took another step, shuffling his arrow riddled body to the next tile.

Again, because apparently he had horseshoes shoved up his a** or something, nothing happened.

Just one more step was needed, and he knew that he couldn't possibly land on yet another tile without having something terrible happen. Still, there was really no point in delaying the inevitable, so he took that final step.

Nothing happened. He blinked. A voice came on over the intercom, the voice almost disappointed sounding.

"Congratulations, you have completed the deathsweeper course. Unless....you would like to continue on for fun?"

The voice had perked up significantly by the end of the sentence, and Finn had to suppress a shudder. "No thanks. Get me the hell out of here."

----

The next thing he knew, he was waking up in the pod, sweating, cold, but completely alive.

Moments later, he stepped out of the pod and swaggered over to Chris with a smirk. <******** nailed it. You going to try again?"

Chris had wobbled out of the pod and watched as Finn completed the course without dying. The a*****e.

When he came swaggering over, Chris was almost tempted to try it again. Was he really to 'die' twice in one day? He squinted at Finn's smug look and nodded. "Yep," he said, popping the p. "I can't let you show me up like that. I'll give it another shot."

He turned his back on him and marched right back to the pod he'd just left. When his golem awakened his clenched his fists. "Alright, watch close man. I'm gonna beat it."
