He had a guess that few would even wish to speak to him, given the little speech and act he'd put on. Yet the fact Avalon had been there was not something he'd taken into his calculations. Her showing up was a flaw in his plan. Not to say she was a flaw but rather- he couldn't afford to lose her support. Or friendship. Oddly, he was more afraid he'd lost her friendship than the notion she might not side with him.
Part of him knew it was cruel to attempt to manipulate her towards his cause. Yet more and more he was working towards towards his revenge war and- Sighing heavily, Pollux sat on the edge of the cafe he frequented. It was difficult to remove the whole war aspect from his relationships. Yet they were bound to collide.
With Avalon it had simply been faster than he'd anticipated. Calling her and requesting to talk, he hoped she's at least grant him that much.

She didn't actually want to meet Pollux. Europa had made her promise to talk to them, but she didn't want to. What was there to say? What could she even... he'd said Earth is corrupt.Liar.But she'd learned, just as they'd said, that she needed to be harder. Less excited. Keep more cards close to her chest, but that was so hard, she wanted to explore, to learn, discover and find--and how could she learn if asking questions was forbidden? "Pollux," she said, and it was perhaps the closest she had ever come to sounding like the Avalon he'd known--though of course, she couldn't know that. She stopped there, feet spread apart, ready to lunge forward and shove him. Or punch him. Or something. Every cord of muscle in her body from head to toe was trembling with repressed violence. "You called me corrupt."

He knew she'd be upset. Knew he'd have to apologize. Yet even so, he didn't want to in a way simply because of his pride. Pride was a dangerous thing, and he was as full of it as his brother. "Not exactly. I called Earth corrupt. You are not a rock Avalon. Unless there is something I am missing?" He tried to force a smile. "Are you the senshi of earth in disguise?" His awkward smile was just as bad as his joke. "But yes, Earth is corrupt, not completely, but well on it's way. I didn't want to offend you, but rather make a point." There was a reason Pollux was often one to just avoid things like this. He was terrible at direct. At saying he was sorry. Why couldn't he just send I'm sorry flowers to Avalon every week? It worked with Eve! Sort of.

He wasn't funny and she could tell he knew it. That smile gave it away. It wasn't easy or natural or pleased. It was pained. He knew what he'd done wrong, and he wasn't going to apologize--or he hadn't, not yet--and she didn't think he would. Well... There was another way to get satisfaction, wasn't there? She lunged forward and swung, fist colliding with his jaw with a perfectly lovely crack. Her green eyes stayed cold, and she felt--she didn't feel like she would, hitting an ally. In her head, punching Pollux felt like a betrayal. It washed over her like the tide rolling in to shore, bringing shame and the need to apologize. Only it didn't feel like that. It felt good. Her hands stayed clenched tight, ready to throw another punch. "Take it back," she said. "You take it back."

Stubborn. It was a word often given to his brother and not to him. Yet when it came to saying his feelings, to admitting mistakes? Pollux was more stubborn than most. It had taken over three years to tell the woman he loved he actually loved her and by that time things were so out of it he had no idea if he'd ever get them back to where they could have been. Now, he was reeling from a punch and one while rightly deserved, wasn't prompting him to consider that all he had to do was say he was sorry. "Take what back?" He rubbed his face, knowing he'd bruise. "That Earth is corrupt? Avalon please, it's only the truth. Earth doesn't make up it's Knights." Few really got a grasp of how stubborn Pollux could be until he was stupidly doing so in front of them. Elzo tended to chalk it up to irony.

He kept saying that Earth could be corrupt and its knights wouldn't be, but that made no sense. Avalon would know if the source of her power was corrupt--she would know if the land on which she stood rejected her. And it didn't. She could sense her Wonder singing to her in the back of her mind, a sweet sea shanty. It was not corrupt. There was nothing, nothing at all, wrong with it. So she burst forward and tackled him to the ground, fist raised in clear threat. The base of her palm rested at his collarbone, and beneath her fingers she felt his pulse. Slow. Calm. Well, she would make him angry. She would make him see. "You're a liar, Pollux! Take it back!" She would know if Earth were corrupt. She would.

The sane, logical part of Pollux told him to shut up, suck it up and say he was sorry. However, he was being stupid, and listening to his pride. Pride was such a b***h really. Tackled to the ground, he stared up at Avalon a bit surprised she'd go that far, yet- He figured it would go like this. For a while. "I am a lot of thing, but a liar isn't one of them." He said, glaring. He was in fact a liar, a damn good one in his opinion. "Don't get angry with me for pointing out that your planet is getting consumed by Chaos Avalon." He punched at her, wanting to be able to stand. "It's the damn truth and you know it."

She took the punch on her shoulder, and it hurt and she hissed through her teeth. "It's a lie," she said. "I'm not corrupt. The heart of my world isn't corrupt. If it was corrupt, nothing would walk on it. Nothing would live on it." Avalon leaned in close, her nose less than an inch from his. "My wonder's as corrupt as your planet is. So take. It. Back." Could she kill Pollux? She wanted to. She wanted to in a way that she hadn't known how to want. There was a great gaping hole in her that she could only fill with blood, with salt, and sweat, and tears, and the sea. This far inland, she had no seashore to dawdle by, no recourse to her need for the sound of waves. There was just blood for her. She could taste it, in her mouth. She could feel it under her fingernails, in Pollux's pulse. Her grip tightened. "At least my world is still alive," she said. "Yours is dead."

"b***h!" He shouted at her with little warning, his own hand shooting up to grab at her throat. Like for like, she'd found what would trigger his own rage. "How dare you even-" He was ready to use his magic, the air chilling near him, concentrating the cold around his hands. His world wasn't dead. It was broken, it was frozen, but it wasn't dead. He'd been the near lunch of monsters too often to call his world dead. "At least it's not my fault that my world is like it is!"Immediately, he knew he'd gone too far, and he pulled his hands from her like he'd been set on fire, staring at the knight like he expected something- only he had no idea what.

His hand was tight around her throat and she struggled for breath, but it only lasted a moment. "Charming," she said, her voice hoarse. "You're so ******** charming, all the time, aren't you, Pollux?" Avalon pushed herself up and off him, cleared space between them and tossed her hair over one shoulder. The chunk of hair missing from her head was eminently obvious, a sharp line between long straight locks of red and the bare fuzz of her scalp. She scraped a hand over her forehead, and she stared at him, dark and sharp-edged. "What happened to me could happen to you," she said, smoothing a hand over her undercut. "They could corner you in your weakest moment and shove their hand in your chest and make you just like me." She tapped a hand against her temple. "That's how it happened, you know. They said choose or die. And I was alone. You left me. So. I am what you've made me, Pollux, even if it wasn't by intention. If it's my fault that Avalon is how it is, then you at least have to acknowledge your hand in it!"

He stared at her for a while as he brushed himself off, got his bearings and regrouped. Charming. That was on way to put it. He had to be charming, just so people would think he was okay- that he was the sane one. He had to be charming, because he couldn't be seen as anything but. If he was charming he could be trusted. If he was charming he could be depended upon, someone worth backing. But he wasn't charming, not by a long shot. "It could- but it won't." He pulled back into himself, fighting to suppress his emotions, his expressions. Dull and mute. "I'd have chosen death. Even so- I never left you Avalon. I left everyone." He wanted to say he was sorry he'd hurt her. But words didn't come. Apologies were left, mute and swallowed down by pride. "I left because I thought everyone was stronger enough to fight without me."

"Then you're a coward," she said. She didn't know anything about why she'd corrupted, only what she'd been told, but it was easy to imagine that she had done it knowing that she could come back, in time. "Only cowards give up." There was always a chance, if she was alive. Always. Wasn't that proven by her standing here. She turned away. "I'm leaving, too," she said. "It's my turn to let everyone go on without me. So I hope you have fun, Pollux, with my corrupted world. I hope it bites you in the a**."

A flinch. A flinch at an insult he'd had hurled at him for years that he'd beaten back yet never truly overcome. Coward. Coward for running, hiding in the shadows. Manipulating others to further his own goals. He called himself clever, never exposing himself unless he had to but at it's root it was fear that drove part of his motivation. Fear had always been a good motivator. "So what if I'm a coward?" He asked, dusting off his legs. "I'd rather be a coward than kill- than forcing my brother to see the monster I could be. The monster I know I am, if chained. If you leave Avalon, you won't escape your destiny. None of us can." Fate, Destiny, and Time. Reborn again and again to fight a war that would never be won. The only end for any of them would be total destruction. "Leave as you like. But your earth will be dealt with, and you as well. You might never understand it but, maybe one day you will. I won't let you become corrupt again." He stared at her. "I didn't think you needed me. I didn't think anyone did. But now I am needed. So this time, I won't just let you go. If you ever begin to fall, I'll rip you back. I don't count my friends lightly Tate." Her name rolled off his tongue, bittersweet. "I don't give up what is part of my world." Not after he'd exposed himself to them. Not after they became a friend.
