Otto woke up with a start, a choked back cry caught in his throat. As if he'd been in the midst of something awful. He sat up suddenly, shivering and damp with sweat. A nightmare. Nightmares were not uncommon. However, now than then, especially after a big mission... they became more intense.

He felt on edge. Worried and anxious. He barely remembered the dream. He assumed it had a lot to do with what he'd seen back in that place. The zombie people. The sickness.

Otto groaned, hugging his knees and laying his head on top to keep from getting queasy.

Camille's nightmares were getting worse. Since she'd woken up alone in the Sahara, naked save for Kidana's totem, Otto's necklace, and her runic pendant things had gotten that much more intense. She still didn't know that her roommate was aware of the fact she had them nearly every night so when the redhead shot awake, utterly breathless, she was surprised to see him sitting up. Normally she awoke to him sprawled out, head on her chest, deep in sleep.

Pushing herself up in their massive bed a hand came to lightly press at the center of his back, rubbing in light circles. "Everything alright?" Likely it wasn't for Otto didn't curl up unless he was in a mood. Moods were all related to something. She welcomed the distraction, welcomed something to think about other than her nightmares, glad that she hadn't awoken covered in blood.

Sometimes, she was afraid she would.

Otto heard Cami startle awake. He wondered if he had woken her, or if it was of her own doing. Normally, he was the one comforting her through nightmares while she still slept. The teen lifted his head, turning ever slightly to catch sight of Cami at his side.

"I'll live." He murmured, his eyes tiredly set on Cami's form in the dim light of night lights. "Bad dream."

It was unfortunate that normally Cami was too deep a sleeper to be woken by something as quiet as Otto's weight shifting to a sitting position. If he'd started to thrash or yell in the throes of a nightmare, she would have woken up to that, because she'd trained herself to it. Also because Maebe had liked to try and sneak out of bed when she thought everyone was asleep and Cami was having none of that s**t.

None whatsoever.

Looking at Otto in the darkness she sat up further, scooting closer so that she could start to stroke his hair, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "Want to talk about it? Or snuggle?" She found a smile, just for him. "Or both?"

"Both." He murmured back, leaning on Cami's shoulder. The easing calm of fingers through his hair helped ebb away some of the anxious nerves racing through his veins. He felt watched. He felt in danger. He couldn't manage a smile for her.

"I don't feel well. Somethings wrong."

How many times had she said that as a child? Brushed off every time she'd said it, it made Cami ultra-sensitive to hearing it from anyone else. Immediately she wanted to summon Kidana and actually did so, using the pale lavender runes of the massive longbow to light the room. It wasn't outside the realm of possibility that there would actually be something (or someone, she supposed) in the room. Finding nothing truly out of the ordinary she let the bow rest against the edge of the bed.

Inspection done she turned back to Otto where he leaned against her. "What feels wrong? Is it just physical not feeling well, like you're sick, or is it...more?" Eyes flicked down to her bow again. The sleepy revenant informed Cami that she didn't feel anything. They were likely safe. "Ki says there's nothing around."

Nothing around. No one there. Nothing sinister. So then why did he feel this way? That event certainly hadn't been the scariest thing he'd ever gone through. Hell, he faired pretty well in it.

"No. Not sick." He murmured back, basking in what little he could of Cami's warmth. "Just a bit edgy. I can't relax."

Because she could Cami shifted to wrap her arms around his slim waist, tugging until he was snuggled back against her chest. Her chin was on his shoulder as she lightly rubbed it against his own, trying to surround him with her warmth. They were both a little sticky from nightmares but not in a horribly unpleasant way. Fingers slipped up under his shirt to lightly stroke at his sides as she snuggled him close.

Kidana had returned to her totem, sleeping lazily, lost among the blankets. "Well, you have two options. One, I will cuddle you until we both fall back asleep. Two..." She laughed. "We don't sleep for a bit yet." It was always his choice. Cami was pretty determined to keep the ball in Otto's court as much as possible, never pushing, because he was her best friend. Her person.

Like a glove, he fit into her grasp comfortably. Paranoia and unease continued to bubble under his skin, leftover anxiety from his terrible dreams. Cami's hands distracted his troubled mind, the contact of skin sending his nerves battling for supremacy over the feel good endorphins.

He liked both options, to be fair. However, with how awfully troubled his dreams had been, simply waiting to sleep was not going to be easy.

Otto leaned his head enough to press a kiss to the corner of her lips, his hand slipping over hers to thread their fingers together.

There was a very small part of Cami that felt bad she was turning Otto towards thinking the way that she and Maebe did. Thinking that you could lose yourself in someone else for awhile and it would chase away the darkness long enough to center yourself again, finding strength in that peace and moment of utter blank-mindedness. Most of her, however, loved it. Loved that she could be of some use to her best friend, whom she loved terribly, one of her two most important people in the entire world.

It didn't hurt, of course, that it made her feel good as well. That it would allow her to think of something more than her own fears, her own nightmares, her own worries for the future. Fingers linked as she leaned in so that their lips met in a kiss that offered herself up to him. Forget. It said. Think only of this.

Cami and Maebe were indeed turning Otto into something else. Solving his internal issues with bodily bliss rather than facing them head on. But when did that ever help anyway? He was a constant storm of turmoil beneath his skin. Issues and anxiety never went away. Sex and the like had become a therapy. A means of soothing the burn of life's misery.

Getting closer to Cami made it feel better. He didn't feel lonely. He didn't feel alone. He felt better.

He'd let the world blur for a while.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 20, 2014 7:51 pm

Later, the world still blurred around the edges, Cami could see what blanket she'd pulled up around them and it made her giggle a bit. Otto had a fascination with buying blankets of all styles and colors so that all three of them had a blanket that was exclusively theirs. Cami's was the blue and purple one he'd bought her when he'd first given her a bed to sleep in. Maebe's was, of course, pink.

Otto's? Otto's was a brilliant orange that even if they didn't sleep with the lights on they'd be able to see. It was Otto's blanket that was wrapped around them both as she skimmed fingers through unruly blond hair, feeling his breath against her skin as he snuggled in against her. Cami liked to touch, liked to feel the light bumps of his vertebrae all the way down his back. If she'd been feeling playful she'd have pinched his butt.

As it was, she was feeling just a little thoughtful which meant her world hadn't blurred quite enough. It wasn't Otto's fault, though. Blurring was becoming something harder and harder to achieve in the way that drug addicts had to reach further and further away to get their high. The weight on her shoulders was too heavy to just be shrugged off so casually.

"Better now?" Her own problems non-withstanding Cami was utterly concerned with his. Otto was her rock. Her world. He had to be ok.

"Better.." Otto murmured. The edgy paranoia had faded away. Maybe time had done so. Maybe it was the exerted energy spent on Cami. It didn't matter. He felt at peace again. For now. Otto melted against her, fingers that threaded through his hair attempted to coax him to sleep.

He shifted enough that he could press a kiss to her jaw, affection still ripe in his actions.

"How about you?" He knew her sleep was plagued by bad dreams, even if she didn't say so. "You okay?"

Affection from Otto always made her smile and now was no exception. His question made her want to evade but it wasn't in her to lie to him. She'd promised that if there was a problem she'd talk to him about it and, now that he was asking, she could burden him with it. But did she really want to? Something flickered in her eyes before she sighed, softly.

"I've been having bad nightmares since the Tower. I don't think it would be so bad to just have this as a recurring nightmare if it weren't every night. Almost the same thing. Every. Single. Night." Her fingers tightened in his hair for a moment, tension rife through her body, before she took a breath and let it go slowly. "I kept hoping they'd go away. I guess they're just...a thing now."

"I've noticed." Otto responded after a moment, "You make a bit of a fuss sometimes.. in the middle of the night. Sometimes I wake up while you're in the middle of one."

His hand reached up to tug on some of her hair. "I don't have any magic fixes for nightmares. I deal with them too."
