The world had exploded--literally, in a big old fiery ball of flaming glory, the withering packlands of Gomorrah (and most of Telk, to be completely honest) were engulfed in liquid flame that spread across the land. The ash was thick in the air, smoke hanging heavy over the heads of the wolves who managed to make it out alive.

One of those wolves happened to be Urban. Gomorrah's crown prince, whether he was happy about it or not. He'd been on the outskirts of his territory, doing what he did best, when the rumbles began. Instinct had warned him to run, but Urban wasn't good at following orders. So he'd gone back, alerted to the pack's worries and fears. And fear had been right.

They had fled in a group, but the flames made them scatter. Urban ran alongside his mother, trying to keep her from faltering; her damn pride kept her from bolting like she should've, the fact that the place she was born, bred, raised, and erected Queen was burning to the ground, and fast. He'd tried to help, running along behind her to snap at her flanks, but...

He'd lost her. He'd lost them all. He followed his gut this time, fleeing the scene on fleet feet, his lungs tight from the smoke and his eyes gritty from the heat. He, the prince who had never been alone in his life, always having friends and agemates and cronies to clown around with, was by himself.

Silence was a bitter friend in these strange lands. He wished for a friendly face, hoped to see Gerda or Novik or Swell or his mother, someone. Anyone. But he would make it; he was made too strong, too proud, too vain to give up.

Gomorrah might have fallen, but he was the prince of sin.

Escaping the thick, heavy ash that fell upon the earth was a lone wolf. Marek, too, had fleed from the cataclysm that had crushed the lands of Telk in time to save his life. His body was weary and spent from running for what seemed like forever. What else do you do? He scolded himself. All you ever do is run. From the past, from your family, from everything. He shook his snout and was surprised to breathe in cleaner air, having previously choked with every breath. Perhaps he had escaped the danger?

The lithe male stopped his running to chance a look behind him, to see a sky much more clear than Gomorrah's had been, though still tainted with destruction. Not that he would know, since he only lurked just around its borders from time to time. A pang of loneliness struck his heart. What if they were all gone? His mother, his father, his brother...?

They weren't very fond of you, anyways. They probably didn't even think twice about you. It's not like you stuck around Gomorrah long enough for them to care. He sighed to himself.

It was then that the smell of another wolf brought him out of his snarky inner monologue. Wait a minute, that's... He brought his nose to the ground, trying to gather more information. Yes, it had to be.

"Urban!" He howled desperately, without even thinking. Images of his brother as just a pup flashed through his mind. He and Marek playing, chasing each other...

Marek leaving him.

Maybe calling after him wasn't such a good idea after all. Would Urban even recognize him? Would he even care?

With a heavy heart, he listened to the silence of this new forest.

Urban and Marek had never been close, not really. Urban was too busy chasing the shinies of the world at the heels of his aunt, whether or not she knew it or realized it, though he was sure she did. And Marek...Marek was an odd duck. He realized, upon his wandering travels out of Telk, that he didn't even know the simplest things about his brother. A pup he'd been raised with, but... Marek had not been close to the family. A wanderer by nature, a loner at heart.

A bit like their father. Though Urban wondered if his mother would've been a wandering whisp of a spirit if not for the pack securing her down. He shook his head, a strange smile on his face. Not that that mattered now.

Maybe this was what he needed--a fresh start. A brand new life, newly minted into a new world, a world filled with sights and sounds he'd never seen or heard before, and----

His head snapped up at the sound on the wind, ragged and desperate. Nostrils flared until, there, on the wind... "Marek?" he asked the air, wonderously. Silver eyes slid across the lands. Nothing. He was surprised to find himself disappointed. Maybe this truly was a new start.

Tossing his head back, ears docked, he let loose a song to the skies--a song for his brother. Then, without waiting for a reply, he began to trot in the direction he'd first heard his name.
