Mist Hunter The Miss Taken Tower General Information As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.
The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.
If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.
If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.
Part 1 Mechanics - roll your regular attack - roll your regular attack again - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable. - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.
- Trainees: 0 recoveries - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery - Hunters: 1 recovery - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries
Part 2 Mechanics - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice
- roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were) (-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. - 50% HP 04. live 05. live 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. horrible death 10. live
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable.
- Trainees: 1 flag - Mist/Death Trainees: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Hunters: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Mist/Death Hunters: 1 flag and two instinctive moves
Part 3 Mechanics - use the given roll for your hunter to try and open the lock on her right manacle. Rolling a 1 means you fumbled, and the cuff exploded causing both you and the princess to lose 50% of your full HP. - roll to repeat the process on the left manacle.
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: roll 1d4 - Mist/Life Trainees: roll 1d6 - Hunters: roll 1d6 - Mist/Life Hunters: roll 1d8
Part 4 Mechanics - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the trap area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much trap damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the shadowling area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much shadow damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - leftover defense does not stack
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: +0 defense - Mist/Moon Trainees: + 2 defense - Hunters: + 2 defense - Mist/Moon Hunters: + 3 defense

Evan always felt a certain kind of obligation to keep an eye on the people he had woken up. They were new and he had been there a while, so it was his responsibility to show them the ropes. Whatever he had done with Chel obviously hadn't worked out. Nora might have almost died the first time they had sparred. He decided to try something a little different with Paige. pinchmonster Text to Paige:You're a Mist, right? Come to the Mist training course ASAP. He would be leaning against it waiting for her if she ever found it.

Paige was tired.
No, ******** that, Paige was exhausted - and it just so happened that the a*****e that had been keeping her awake in recent days sent her a text. She didn't even bother texting back. Paige merely asked the first Mist she stumbled across to direct her towards the training course. It didn't take long for Paige to find Mr. ******** standing there, waiting for her.
"Wow, I'm surprised you can ******** walk, dude. Really cool. I mean, like, really cool."
Harle sparked green-gold, the rich colors flooding her vision.
"You do know the walls are like. Paper ******** thin, right, man?"

Evan frowned at Paige, confused almost to the point of alarm, before understanding slowly dawned. He bit the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling, though his ears turned red. "Sorry," he murmured, hiding a bark of laughter in a cough. "I'll, uh--we'll-- anyway. I'm sure--I mean, I hope you've had a chance to settle in okay, uh, otherwise. I don't know how much the Life techs told you, but along with regular training, we're also encouraged to do these courses. There're five different ones, all tailored to different division specialties. This one," he said, gesturing at the tower behind them, "is Mist's, which is kind of a combination of all of them. Once you clear a course, you can get clearance for runic tech. Any questions so far?"

He was ******** cute, but Paige wasn't laughing. Much. Okay, maybe a little, despite the scowl that she maintained. Paige hoped it was really ******** mean-looking, too. "You should ******** on the floor. Or put a muzzle on your girl. Because dude." She shook her head and then finally grinned. "No questions. I heard a little about these things. Haven't done one yet. Lead on, boss."

Paige's scowl was mean enough to make Evan turn redder. Maybe it was just the nature of her suggestions. "Sorry," he muttered again, turning to lead Paige through the entrance of the tower. "Okay, so the first part comes from the Sun course. It's easy--all you need to do is hit stuff." He summoned Gir and took a swing at a few shadowlings who seemed eager enough to die that they launched themselves at Evan and Paige. They dissipated with high-pitched shrieks. "Like so. Okay, your turn."

"I'm just giving you a hard time, boss. You must have been doing something right. All I'm saying is thin walls. I felt like I was part of the party." She shot him another impish grin before watching him attack a few of the shadowlings and then she summoned Harle. Her attack wasn't as well-placed or as efficient, but it got the job done. Harle swirled a pale lavender, his interpretation of pleasure.

The woman he had been with had certainly seemed to think so. Paige pointing it out was a nice reminder, but no less embarrassing for it. He nodded in approval as she handily dispatched a couple of shadowlings. "I mean," he said, "just pound on the wall or something next time if we're too loud." He gave her a quick, polite once over and a bright smile. She was pretty--and tall, which was definitely another point in her favor. "Or the door. Wouldn't want anyone to feel left out." It took her a moment to realize that he was offering an invitation. "You hitting on me, boss? Pounding on the wall's something I can do. Pounding your pelvic bone into mush, now, that isn't something I'm real interested in." Still distracted, Paige stepped further into the tower. She stopped to grin over at the Sun. "Not that you aren't hot. You totally ******** are. I'm just," she paused to demolish a few more shadowlings, "here to work. Nothing personal. Had enough distractions to last me a lifetime. Or three. What's next, boss?" Status Stage: 1 Your HP: 40 Princess HP: 20/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 1 - unused Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 1 | 1 Stage 4 Bonus HP: +2 def

Paige's directness manged to startle a laugh out of Evan. "I can respect that," he said, nodding and still smiling. "It's important to be dedicated to your work--especially for someone who has to learn how to do everything." Once the shadowlings were cleared, he ascended the stairs, calling over his shoulder, "But if you ever change your mind..." He stopped at the top of the landing, frowning in annoyance at the tiles that covered the floor. "This is probably going to hurt," he warned Paige. "It's probably going to hurt a lot. There's no telling what stepping on one of these tiles will do. If you're lucky, it won't do anything. If you're unlucky, it might explode underneath you. Step carefully." Evan contemplated the tiles before him, trying to look for any that screamed certain death. They all looked frustratingly similar. With a deep breath, he finally selected one at random. He held his breath and stepped onto it, releasing it in a relieved sigh as nothing happened. "Okay, your move. Careful, now." "You're too pretty. Way too pretty, boss." Paige hoofed it up the stairs after Evan, coming to a stop right behind him. She peered around his shoulder and paused. "Like. I can stand some pain, so what kind of s**t are we looking at, here?" She was half expecting him to explode, so when he didn't, Paige rocked back on her heels and stroked an invisible beard. She had a funny feeling about the first tile she chose. Gut instinct told her it would be a bad move, so she hopped over it and onto the one directly behind it. Nothing happened. "Awww, s**t. I'm a ******** pro already. You see that s**t?" Paige immediately started flexing. "Don't get cocky," Evan warned, though he couldn't help but smirk at her sass. "We're not done yet." He was relieved that Paige seemed to be doing well so far. Belatedly, he considered the fact that, if this went south after all, this might not be the fun, friendly introduction to Deus he had hoped it'd be. Well, he would just have to keep them from failing. Shouldn't be too hard--if they could survive the Death course, they could survive most anything. Right? Evan was about halfway through the minefield; he would only need to take one more step to get across. He wasn't about to spend hours analyzing each tile to see which ones might be more full of death than the others. Instead, he held his breath, took a chance, and hoped that he lived to see lunchtime. It was almost a relief when the tile exploded beneath him with enough force to knock him across the room, because that meant that it hadn't killed him. It hurt like hell and left him a little dazed, but at least he was still alive. Status Stage: 2Your HP: 25/50 Princess HP: /20 Stage 1 Recoveries: 0 Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: 0 Stage 4 Bonus HP: 0

Paige squinted as she watched Evan go soaring, lips pursed and hands on her hips. When he thudded back to the ground, Paige lifted her hand and scratched the back of her head before glancing down at the tiles. "Oy, 'ere we 'ave the mysterious an' elusive Paige Emerson," Paige muttered to herself in a spectacularly awful Australian accent, "watch as she gits 'er a** blown ta smithereens when she steps on the wrong tile." There were two tiles, and one looked kind of shady. She stepped on the other one. Great success. "Aaaaand Paige comes from behind with the mother <********> win!! Awww, ******** yes. How're you feeling, boss? You kind of got your a** handed to you." She half-jogged up to Evan and held out a hand. "Up and at 'em, dude. What's next?" "Like I got my a** handed to me," Evan muttered as he took Paige's hand and hauled himself up. He shook his head to clear it of the echoing ringing in his ears before proceeding--with noticeably less go-get-'em than before--to the ladder. "Next we go to the top of the tower, pick up our princesses, and try to get ourselves down in one piece." Yes, he did say princesses. With a straight face, even. A pair of human-looking figures in full princess costumes--complete with ridiculous hats--were chained to the top of the tower. Evan waited for Paige to catch up before explaining, "These are our objectives. We need to unchain them, but it's probably not going to be as easy as it looks. If they get hurt, don't worry too much about it. They're just golems--they're like lifelike robots, kind of--and they're made to get broken anyway. Drop it if you need to get yourself out safely." With that, he took a look at the golems that had been set out for them to rescue and smiled as he recognized at least one of them. Cee's curves barely fit into the princess costume, and it was clear by the skewed angle of the hat that some tech had tried hard to fit it over her poofy hair and just gave up halfway through. "Dibs on that one," he told Paige. No sooner had he started fiddling with the manacle on the golem's right wrist than it exploded in his hand. Gir whimpered and whined as their Fear shield shattered, but Evan was more concerned about the blood dripping down his arm from where fragments of the manacle had sliced through his coat and into his flesh. <********> he swore wholeheartedly, shaking his arm to try and relieve the pain. "s**t, god damn ******** ow--look," he said to Paige, "I need to go get this taken care of. You finish up here if you can, but be careful."Status Stage: 3Your HP: 0/50 Princess HP: 10/20 Stage 1 Recoveries: Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: Stage 4 Bonus HP:

Paige saluted. "Yes'm, boss." She eyed the blood that dripped down Evan's hand with both brows lifted. Maybe she'd have to find a way to thank him for trying to show her the ropes. She wasn't really paying attention to the golem she'd been stuck with, but it was male and looked really ridiculous in the princess outfit. So ridiculous, in fact, that Paige mishandled the shackle and it immediately exploded in her face.
