Mia was still rather listless. Though she filled her days with meeting, socializing, and her odd quirk with numbers, she found that she was still lacking the love for life she had had long ago.
She was well aware of the reasoning, and she tried to forget it, even. Mheetu probably wasn't coming back, and she may never know what had happened, so there was no foreseeable closure. It was something that hung around her head like a cloud of lightning, striking her with a hot jolt in the stomach occasionally.
She still found herself wondering about that male she'd encountered on the border, Kihalua. Mia could still see him, bright and pink as he was, but oh so sad. They had a lot in common, and she had hoped to see him return.
The lioness was careful not to get her hopes up too high, however. She knew that perhaps his trust had been shattered too much to start again.
Lying on her side in the dry grass, she heaved a sigh.
Really, Mia. What has become of you? She thought angrily.

Kihalua had not expected to have found a destination in his travels so soon. The longer he traveled away from the Pridelands, the more he felt himself being pulled back to their borders. It was as if he were orbiting around them, much like the Earth around the Sun, and always his thoughts returned to Mia.
He could envision her dark eyes, as beautiful as they were, tinged in a longing for a mate that may never come back. Kihalua knew her heartache all too well. They had bonded, in however short a time they had talked, and it was because of this that his white tipped paws found themselves ghosting over the boundary markings once more.
A bright shock of yellow mane fluttered around his face as a gentle wind danced by. It felt calming, as if it were the very winds of chance and fate wrapped into one to deliver a blessing. A gift, perhaps, in the form of a brown lioness he saw lying in the grass.
"Taking it easy today, Mia?" He teased, but his pleasant tone was no match for the smile on his maw. "It's been a while."

It only took that voice, that was so familiar yet still really a stranger, to snap her out of her trance and put a big smile on her face. She felt joy pull at her heart for the first time in a long time and rose quickly to greet the male.
They had bonded over loss, and she had suggested a new home for him, with the thought he would never return, but here he was. Her hope in life had been restored. Here should would certainly gain a friend.
"Kihalua!" Mia beamed. "I'm so glad you're here."

Kihalua's grin only seemed to widen when he saw the life being pulled into her. Maybe it was narcissistic to be so pleased thinking that it was his arrival that was the cause of it, but it lifted a weight off his shoulders, never the less.
"I'm glad to be back." He moved to meet her halfway. "It took a while longer than it should have, and I've been around to different lands, but....Mia, you were right. This pride, this place, is perfect for a fresh start. If you really think they'll let me stay, I think I'd really like to give it a try."
It's not as if he had ever really given any other prides a chance. Every time he had explored new lands Kihalua had been mentally comparing them to the sprawling Pridelands, with all of it's warm and bounty. Truly it had been a no-brainer.

Mia nodded enthusiastically. "Of course they will let you stay!" And she was certain, she had no doubt that he would be accepted into the pride. The Pridelands was one of most of the accepting prides after all.
"You'll love it here." She purred. "It's like a big family, there's so many of us." For a moment the chocolate lioness tried to count all the members, numbers running through her head. It was an impossible feat from memory!
"I really hope this is a good fresh start for you." She said sincerely.
Maybe it could be one for her too. A new face, a new friend.
