Shu was told that she had a partner for the moon training course. Arriving fifteen minutes earlier, she checked the information about it again, make sure she knew what she was going to do. Princess Island was such a cute name, but she didn't expect to see castle or pretty princesses like those of Disneyland, well, it was hard to believe the technicians held a romantic girly heart when they designed it.
Close to the designated time, the Asian picked out a mirror from the small pouch and checked her hair, bent down to pull the tights back to position. Then, she adjusted her glasses and looked at the watch - there was one minute to the said time.
Moon hunters were well known for their outstanding defense techniques, it would be nice if she could learn something useful from the course. Spars had given her enough chances to practice on-the-spot offensive skills and external missions offered precious moments for her to experience how it was like to defend your partner with enemy presented.
Ok, time's up, will they be an acquaintance?
Recalling her time as a trainee, the clumsy girl that hit herself with own weapon, the hour hand and minute hand of the watch reached its destination. With her hoodie off, Shu tied her hair into a neat ponytail, ready for some exercises.
Moon Hunter PRINCESS ISLAND
General Information Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.
There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.
These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.
If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves. If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.
Mechanics Your princess has 20 hp First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.
Brick: 4 d12 Wood: 8 d6 Hay bales: 12 d4
The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.) Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess. Example: My defenses are 5/6/8/10 The attackers are 3/7/3/8
The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2 Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP. Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP. Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3
Bonus Mechanics Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.
Trainees: 0 hp bonus Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path Hunters: +1 hp to each path Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Mist techs were assholes, but who wasn't around this ******** place? Leslie headed towards the Moon course, dressed much nicer than he usually was, which was downright uncomfortable in its own right. Abbi had insisted that everything fit, and that was honestly part of the problem. There was no room to move.
He looked blankly at his assigned partner; christ. A girl, which meant that she was going to be off her ******** rocker. Leslie didn't have anything against chicks, really, as long as they knew their place. But every single island b***h seemed about six screws too lose.
"Great," Leslie muttered, trying to remember what they needed to do first. "Let's go get our shitty ******** princesses, or whatever."
She was tying the last loop when Leslie arrived, she was glad it was an acquaintance, that saved the time for introduction. "Hello Le- Ohhh you look great, very handsome," Shu had her eyes blinked in amusement, then she put a finger near her cheek, "But we're doing a training....do you afraid you will make the pretty clothes dirty? That was why she was wearing a plain hoodie, Leslie's outfit was more like one picked for a date.
"You are best friend of Abbi right? Are you gonna go on a date after that?" A spark lightened up in her amber yellow eyes. Shu's sisters liked to bring her shopping or have a wonderful dessert buffet and called that "a date". Forgive this stupid girl, Leslie.
"Oh princess, right! We are gonna be the loyal knights for them." The Asian girl chirped cheerfully, ponytail at back swung left and right, like a self-protection weapon. The fling would really be destructive.
Their princesses - to be honest - she would expect a she. Wearing long pretty elegant dress, have a beautiful lustrous amazing hair and the sweetest dreamy smile on face. So she looked at Leslie, confused with inquiries, head obliviously tilted to one side. "Leslie - hope you don't mind I call your name, these are our mission princesses? It's my first time to do this training course, have you done it before?" The petite Death peeked at the princesses, from this one to that one, speechless.
One of them had the face of - of - of - of - okay she could do this - take a deep breathe - the face of the dear Death Lead, but he was posing like a perfect princess in the Elsa dress with the color of runic blue, like the color of the bead on his braid. "Is-Is this a joke?" Even though Caelius golem looked gorgeous in that sexy outfit, she couldn't get rid of whoever did this would be beheaded a long time ago, body lashed million times for their trespass. "Do they keep each of us as a princess golem? Like a-a-a collection and dress them with pretty princess clothes - like that?" She quivered at the horrible idea and pointed to their princess golems, she raised an eyebrow and made a weird expression.
Too many shocks at once.
"How-How's your princess?" She asked, trying to distract herself from her wonderful princess.
Inside, she wanted to scream: It's a he! It's a he in a princess dress! She's gonna be the knight of Cael hime-sama!

He gave the girl a long, suffering stare. "I don't give a s**t," he said, bristling, and flipping her the bird. "And I sure as ******** am not dignifying that with a ******** answer. Jesus christ."
Especially since she was probably the first of many that were going to think him and Killian were dating. Great.
"I don't want to be anyone's ******** knight," Leslie griped, hunching his shoulders further, but went on to get his own princess anyway. Which he stared up at, vaguely stupefied. They were quite a sight: taffeta, lace, and glossy black heels taller than Leslie's handspan.
"You've got to be ******** kidding me," he muttered, head in his hands. "God damnit, Jack."
Hand around the giant's wrist, Leslie dragged him around to build the barriers, explaining to Shu as he went. "The tech made sure I got ten earfuls, so listen the ******** up. We both gotta build barriers, out of whatever. There's brick, wood, and something else. I forget. But I build mine, then we do yours-- Quit ******** trying to braid my ******** hair, Hawthorn, I swear to god-- anyway. Yeah. s**t, let's go."
He built his own out of wood, and by that he just dragged a few planks of wood on top of each other at every station, staring at Shu until she did her own building.
"Sorry, Leslie." She probably had said something wrong. An apology was made right after his mouth spit out rude adjectives or verbs. It seemed to be a common thing in foreign countries like the cursing words their place used. An abhorred mask put on the girl's face that lasted for only a few seconds, "So you and Abbi-chan are only best friends, I see."
Shu made another glimpse of Lesile's princess, she was tall and beautiful - and had a large frame? "Your acquaintance?" She didn't like any Disney princesses at all, more like a powerful princess from the kingdom of Brobdingnagian. Before Leslie called her again, Shu was observing the tall princess. "She looks great......" The Asian stared at the high heels of her, a bit worried the tail of the long dress may trip her up. Similar in height as Robert, probably one of the tallest huntress on island, it seemed it was the "Towering Princesses and their Itty-bitty Knights" episode if all was a cute Disney anime.
Like a little gentleman, the girl blushed in cheeks reached out to take the hand of her princess, leading her to the destination. Hands behind her back like a good student, Shu listened to Leslie's briefing about the course they were about to take. "I will take the wood pieces then. So something will attack our princess from - those paths and we'll build things to stop them, got it!" The girl spoke to herself before she went to pick her materials and built her defense for the dear Elsa princess. "Princess, you stay here and I will try my best to protect you." Shu smiled, making the wood pieces firmer together, however since she was quite rush, one of the barrier wasn't as stable as the rest.
After she finished, she headed over to her partner and saw his princess was still braiding his hair with a playful smile. That reminded her of her beloved sisters. "That's nice...." She looked at them with a nostalgic look. "Question: These princess golems have a different personality than the real person? Are you curious of how yours will be like? I hope mine will be a lovable cute little one dressing in adorable peach pink." As they chatted, Cael hime-sama (named by Shu) was posing non-stop, admiring her own beauty and elegance. At one time, she unraveled the braid and re-braid it again and again, not seemed to satisfy with it that her eyebrows knitted together. It was so annoying and would hinder her showing her glamor. "Let-Let me help?" Clumsily made an almost perfect braid out of her princess, Shu turned to Leslie. "Maybe she just wants to thank you her knight?" Shu flushed like a ripe tomato as she was rewarded a forehead peck.
"So - we have to go up there?" Shu pointed to the station overlooking the island.

"Good ******** guess," Leslie replied, sharp, "but no." The word 'best' wasn't accurate: Abbi had tons of friends, and out of everyone, she'd be stupid to call Leslie of all people her best one. "Just...I don't know. Normal friends. Whatever."
He threw his hands up in the air, tired of thinking about how second best he was. "Just do your s**t so we can move on."
By the time Shu returned, Leslie had given up on trying to fend off the giant. His entire mohawk was in braids, and frankly, he looked ridiculous.
"This guy? Not even a ******** little like this." Leslie said, staring up at Jack, pushing his giant, gloved hands away. Again. "I work with this ******** in the infirmary. And despite the dress, he is deeefinitely a dude."
This girl was off her ******** rocker.
"No, I don't think that's what he wants to do. But yeah, let's go. Bye, bitches."
Once they got to the observatory, he smashed the button to make the enemies march ahead. "Aw, s**t. My last two are ********' shot to hell."
"Hmm. We all need time to know whether someone is a normal friend, good friend, best friend or something else, so don't make the conclusion so fast." She took a quick glance at Leslie, "Did she help you to pick this set? It looks like the choice of girl friends, I mean female friends; or the type that read male fashion magazine would pick."
Guy? Did Leslie just say that beauty - his pretty princess was a man?! Shu's poor small capacity mind blew up for a well ten seconds, before it resumed its tasks. The petite girl caught up with the hunter, "You-you-you-you said your princess is a HE?" Eyes unblinking, the girl's mouth could put in an egg. She didn't expect there would be someone as pretty as the Death Lead, you see, man that can be beautiful but still handsome and powerful at the saaaaammeeeeee time. Nervously waving goodbye to Cael hime-sama, Shu followed the boil on the path towards the station.
"Could you do me a favour," face buried in palm, "Please don't tell - er- I don't know the name of the mister- that I mistook him as a lady." The girl muttered unclear under her hands until she got the reply. After a while, she calmed down and went to check her defense, it was a disaster.
Her pretty princess was attacked from three directions, only the last one stood firm to block the shadowlings on that path. It was so sad to watch the princess being bitten and climbed like a tower. Shu decided she would smash them harder next time she did the Sun Run, fist held close to the soft palm flesh as she helplessly watched only. "Does the princess golem act differently from him? The hunter you know?" She needed some distractions and it was hard to believe the Death Lead would sit there and play with her hair, picking the split-ends, eyes half-lidded with long legs crossed sexily. Mister, the high slit of your dress! Be careful!
Well, that was a brilliant distraction, she definitely attracted too many admirers.

Well, that he could give Shu, that didn't seem like a problem. "Yeah," he said, "this s**t is way outta my ******** comfort zone. But she'd be mad if I didn't wear it, or whatever. Normally I just wear a hoodie."
They walked out to repair their paths, and this time he chose brick.
"You ********' kidding me? I don't even wanna think about this guy as a princess-- HANDS OFF--after this. I am going to wipe this from my entire ******** mind. Going to drink myself stupid, is what's going to happen. s**t."
He gave a long, side-eyed look at both the princesses, and shuddered, catching an eyeful of something special up Caelius' dress. Ye gods. "They are very, very ******** different. Extremely different. I don't have enough words for how ******** different. Countries apart. Planets and s**t."
"But it does look great on you!" Shu stressed with a little bit widened eyes, with a very sincere face. "I love hoodies too, they are comfortable, look!" She extended her sleeves like a bat, "But sometimes, when you have a good mood, you want to dress pretty. Or - she has a good mood, she looks great and she wants you to look great too," A bright smile she gave in guessing Abbi's intention. "You can't deny she has a great taste, can you?" Good job, Abbi-chan, a secret thumb-up in heart for the moon girl.
Considering the bricks are too heavy to move around, Shu continue to pick the wood to mend her defense. "I am not a good knight, sorry princess." The girl sadly looked at Cael hime-sama's gorgeous dress that was torn with holes and the lovely hair in a mess after the assault. She braided it beautifully again before she turned to rebuild the damaged part. Her strategy was putting more resources on the two that was still firm while making sure the defense on the four sides were working.
Time for a round two.
"Thank you, you're so nice," Leslie's reply made the petite Asian relieved and beamed, "Ah, remember not to drink too much if you have duties tomorrow, working with a hangover is true suffering." Shu kindly shared her experience. "A hunter told me it is only a temporary remedy for forgetting awful things, but I think it does work to get rid of that for a while?"
Meeting with Leslie's eyes, the princess in elegance returned with a mysterious smile (what was in it was unsure, maybe a friendly greeting, maybe deadly murder plans, maybe an angry offended expression that was too close to what a smile would like). "I think so......." Seeing how over-reacting Leslie was, Shu took a glance at Jack princess that wore a playful smile, She - no - he's really a he? Eyebrow obliviously knitted together with a small magnitude. "The he I know doesn't like that either, it looks more like a randomized result, I think this is what would happen if the technicians get bored? Or - they simply don't want the hunters who get princess of their acquaintance feel bad to see them being attacked but can do nothing?" She complemented with a second guess, to somehow compensate the negative comments on the technicians.

Jesus christ alive, this was not going well. The shadowlings were beating the s**t out of Jack. Like, absolutely pulverising him. It was a little hard to watch. Whatever.
Shu's concern was ...unflappable. Leslie felt like he could probably trip her on purpose and she'd just apologise for getting in the way-- which was good. She knew her place.
He reached up to yank a sleeve back up Jack's shoulder, muttering "Jesus christ, Hawthorn. Get your s**t together."
He awkwardly patted the princess on the back. "I think you're right, honestly. It's like they're programmed to be ditzy bimbos."
Cael princess wasn't that lucky, obviously all the crystal sparkles drew full attention of the shadowlings, like light attracts shadows golden rule. She winced in pains but still kept elegance to the last minute, before she was swallowed by a tiny one suddenly opened its mouth and devoured the princess.
"No. No. NooOOooooooOOOoooooooo!" Shu covered her mouth that couldn't hide the screeches as her dear princess vanished between the giant black hole. She squatted down, as if being taken all her energy at once all in a sudden. She wiped away the tears, and introspected her mistakes. "I failed terribly, sorry Leslie. Just give me a few more minutes and we can do it again."
It was hard to watch someone's death, even it's a golem only, but as a hunter, she needed to brace herself up quickly no matter what blew at her. The missing of two lives were enough for her, she didn't need more.
Still squatting on the ground, she moved her head slightly from knee, which was hidden between the wrapped arm, "Is this your first time to do this course?" The voice a little bit sobful asked.

Yes. It was just a golem, but when you repeatedly had nightmares of someone dying or blaming you for their deaths, then it was another thing.
Shu was still squatting when Leslie returned in glory with his alive princess. "Welcome back and that's good yaaaaaaayyy..." A tear dropped and she wiped it away in a spin. Shu, brace up, don't be a little girl. The petite Asian hit her face with two hands, making a loud and clear pat. "You're so nice, Leslie, yes, I would like to do it again and if you can help, that's the best!" The girl smiled with reddish cheeks as a result of her action.
The princess they got was the exactly the same Death Lead golem who died horribly. "....Second chance...?" She mumbled in very low voice, like making meaningless sounds. "We will try brick this time, is that okay?"
"Oh," Leslie said, with a grimace, once they'd gotten up to the box. "That...doesn't...." The shadowlings were really intent on destroying this golem, too, crawling over the brick walls with a fury.
"Maybe, uh, Shu. Don't look? Or...something. s**t, they're going for his throat, huh. Damn."
