Sh'en loved drills with his wing. Repetitive and tiresome they may be, but they were far from boring. As an acrobat, Sh'en was familiar with the need for constant practice and exercise: you wanted to be ready when you needed it, after all. Thread was definitely a time that you would need to be at your best, at the top of your game, able to dart and dodge and twirl on a dime with an audience and in mortal peril at the same time.

Impromptu was bad enough. An audience was even worse. And in mortal peril? Yeah. Practice.

He and Kalteth were good in the air. Kally was in it like a fish was in water. He was good on the ground, nimble like a feline and about as sure footed. Sh'en didn't have any question that when it came to thread or – Faranth forbid – fighting, they would be dodging the worst of it.

He was worried about the attack. Could he hurt another – again, Faranth forbid? Could Kalteth manage to flame Thread from the sky?

That was why they both needed to practice. Hard. And so they did. Whenever firestone came up in the drills, he made extra sure that Kalteth's distract-able mind was on the task at hand, and not on a butterfly or a flock of wherries.

It was tiring though, and she didn't appreciate it. Thus, after todays set of drills, she was in a poor mood. Which, for Kalteth, would be a brief spurt of energy that Sh'en hoped to endure and enjoy.

"Nice job, Kally." he said, as they walked from the practice fields. He got a moody grumble in response...

Syriacuth glided above Trine easily. Stretching his great dark blue wings into the sky and twisting and turning this way and that. R'an used to love riding a runnerbeast for the speed and the rocking motion it provided. It was one that made him feel free on days when he had to work.

But this! He had never known freedom until his dragon and him finally took to the sky! He held on tight to the reins as Syriacuth slowly headed down to the ground, landing abit gingerly and much more gracefully for once and the moment R'an slid off the saddle he knew why.

'You have to be the second biggest flirt here.' R'an commented as he rubbed the side of Syriacuth's neck. 'I am no flirt. I simply respect them.' Syria commented back in a rumble before he nodded over at Kalteth and Sh'en. While their meeting hadn't been under the best of circumstances, The blue considered the green his friend now and he quick to rumble out a greeting to his clutchmate while R'an raised his hand and called out a hello to Sh'en

grumbled Kalteth,

“Sorry.” said Sh'en, smiling sheepishly, “But you did well!”

“Cheer up.” said Sh'en, “We're on free time now, and we can do whatever we wish...”

Kalteth was going to answer snottily – she was still a little put out – when she noticed Syriacuth and, true to her nature, was distracted. With distraction came forgetfulness, and in its trail forgiveness. Sh'en grinned as he felt her mood change. she called out to him, bugling a greeting of her own.

Sh'en waved his hand in greeting. “R'an!” he called out, “How goes?” It had been two years – or so – since the two – four – had met in the infirmary. They were of the same clutch, and thus of the same class, and so – in a strange sense – they were family.

said Kalteth, bounding over and stopping just outside his 'zone' – learned from long association with her clutchmate, her eyes whirling joyfully,

Sh'en smirked. The joke around their weyrling class was that Syriacuth was a flirt to all the ladies, and he could certainly believe it... though admittedly a subtle flirt. He approached R'an, easy of movement like a feline himself. “Draw anything new?”

R'an could feel the happiness coming off of his dragon and he chuckled as Syriacuth hesitantly moved closer than he usually would for other dragons. 'Thank you.' His eyes whirling with pride. What a show off. 'I saw you flying up there. You looked wonderful.' He complimented back.

R'an smiled and looked back at Sh'en. "It's been going okay. I can't believe how wonderful it is up in that sky. It's been hard some days coming back down." He joked.

"I haven't really been drawing lately, but I'm always up for inspiration."

laughed Kalteth, pleased that he was coming closer: that was pretty major for her handsome brother to do. She looked up, almost longingly. she said, unwittingly echoing his rider. She laughed when she realized it.

Sh'en grinned. “I know how that is.” he said, “Especially when it's a nice day like today... no clouds, just gorgeous blue sky and a sun that wasn't too hot... Just right.” He stretched idly, “And you know I'm always up for inspiring you, especially if I get to see it after.”

asked Kalteth,

Syriacuth rumbled a laugh back, 'I know just how you feel. I love dipping and gliding through the clouds and i've learned how to do this new thing called "Diving"!' He shared excitedly. As a dragon who could brace himself for impact and not get too beat up and as a blue who was very manuerable. Diving seemed to be the best thing in the world because he was falling at a very fast pace only to tilt up at the very last second and spread his wings wide and take off again. It was fun for Syriacuth...not so much fun for R'an.

He trusted his dragon fully, but sometimes its easy to become terrified when you're riding on the shoulders of a dragon with it's own free will...

R'an let out a soft sigh and smiled. "Yea, just right." He repeated. "And of course you can see it after. Especially if you inspired it! Why? Got any ideas?" He asked.

Syriacuth looked to his rider. 'I don't know if mine will let me... He doesn't seem to like diving very much and I don't want to worry him.' He said slowly as if asking R'an permission.

The rider turned his head. "If you let me take your saddle off first, then maybe. But you have to behave. No going anywhere but above us. And stay out of everyone's way.' He advised. Syriacuth rumbled back in a bit of annoyance. 'They should stay out of my way....'

Kalteth said, delightedly, asked Kalteth, already, she could feel her wing muscles warming up, ready to go back up there in that glorious space above. she asked her rider curiously,

he said, his mind full of laughter. He adored his dragon.

she said 'out loud' to Syriacuth,

Sh'en chuckled, his attention back on R'an.

Well.

Inspire could mean a lot of things, and often when something had more than one meaning, Sh'en meant it in a lot of ways.

Am I flirting with him?! Sh'en wondered, suddenly. There were flirtacious ways he could mean inspire, and Ra'an was a handsome person, if older than him by enough to make Sh'en doubletake at the thought.

Of course, Sh'en could always show off his tricks, or tell a story, or pose, or even take a walk around the weyrbowl. All of those were on the table.

”Plenty!” said Sh'en, honestly, ”I'm extremely inspirational.” he looked at the dragons. I should probably undo her saddle... he realized, So that it doesn't chafe...

Kalteth was so excited to be back up in the sky and showing off to her friend!

”I'm thinking they will be pretty inspriational themselves,” he commented, undoing Kalteth's straps carefully, ”So I don't want to overwhelm you with inspiration, if that's even possible. he blinked, ”Wait, is it? Is it possible to have too much inspiration?” somehow, Sh'en didn't believe that.

'I have, done the loops, for some reason mine seems to get sick feelings from it. I don't know why.' He gave a heavy shrug of his shoulders, his wings raising for a moment before dropping again, giving a flash of the scars on his shoulder and on his wing. 'I don't know why he worries either. I can fly perfectly well.' Syriacuth chuckled out a rumble. 'I'll follow you in a moment, I need my saddle off.' He made the point of looking at his rider.

R'an turned his attention to his dragon. "I'll be there in a second." He called out playfully. "As for what you asked, Yea it can be possible to have too much inspiration... It's kind of like having too many thoughts in your head."

He shrugged and nodded towards the two dragons. "If they're going to take off again I'm going to get rid of Syria's saddle. You coming along?" He asked as he began walking over there waiting for Sh'en to join him. "And I doubt you'll overwhelm me much. It takes a lot to do that." He said back unaware just how much that sounded like flirting.

I always have trouble when sh'en starts flirting

”Well...” Sh'en grinned. This was going in directions he liked, unless R'an was being oblivious, which was possible. ”I should warn you, I've never been called 'Underwhelming'.” he said, ”A handful, though... Yes.” he said, ”Hang on, almost done with these... there.” he waved the undone straps in front of Kalteth, ”There you go, you're free now.” he said play-graciously, and got a bound-in-place of delight from his dragon.

cheered Kalteth, humming happily before she started to warm up her wing muscles. she said Wouldn't that be fun?

Sh'en joined R'an, though he kept a few feet between him and the rider and the dragon – he knew very well how territorial Syriacuth could be. He stood at a fluid ease, lazily watching as R'an undid Syria's straps.

He has very nice hands... he thought, watching them move nimbly. That's probably why he draws so well...

”I know how that feels, having too many thoughts in my head.” said Sh'en conversationally, ”Usually, it happens when Kally gets excited. Normally, though,” he said, winking, ”It's pretty empty up there.”

It was a lie. His mind was always going – always always going. Kalteth had told him it was like a machine with cogs and wheels and whirring.

no problem smile , btw how old is sh'en now? His profile said he's like 14?

He laughed as he undid the staps of the blue's saddle, sliding the leathers off and patting his dragons side, sending him off.

The blue shook out his neck and shoulders before wandering closer to Kalteth, 'Ready when you are.' He said playfully, his wings spreading. Sure he wasn't as big or as strong as a bronze or brown, but when he was up in the sky, he was king there!

R'an laughed at his dragons readiness and turned back to Sh'en, "Well, I can believe you're a handful, but I think I can deal with it." He winked, noticing more the tone he was using. Was he flirting? It had been a long time since he had done so and he wondered what that might mean for him and Sh'en...

He watched the boy point to his head. "I highly doubt your head is ever empty." He teased. "Otherwise Kalteth would be bored."he grinned and gave the boy a wink.

she said, giving her beautiful, mottled wings a few experimental flaps before, with a short running gallop and a few powerful beats of her wings, she was in the air. she called, ascending, feeling the rush she always felt when she was airborne – how true that word was, airborne: she was born to fly, and fly she did.

Sh'en felt the rush too. Briefly, he was caught up in the powerful emotion, and he – too – was weightless, godlike, a master of the sky.

And then he was himself again, and very happy for it. ”I have to say.” he said, ”I love that part of flying... It's the best part, save for when you're up there and looking at the people below... Mmm...” he looked up at his dragon as she soared higher and higher into the sky, ”It has to be the best part about being a dragon rider... besides, you know...” he turned back to R'an, ”The dragon...”

”Anyway.” Back at the subject at hand, things seemed to be going in a good direction, and now a certain territorial dragon was out of the way. With his romantic inexperience (being 16 and all) he was glad his attempts were going well. ”You are a very capable man.” Sh'en said, closing the distance between them - Not too close, of course, but close enough for... options. ”So I'm sure you can handle me. But what about you? Have you ever been a handful, R'an?”

r'an totally sucks at flirting but he's so cute about it!

Okay, he was a little dense when it came to flirting, but R'an was positive now that this was what Sh'en was doing. And he did it better than the girls back home at Bitra. They were always giggling and blushing and giving him looks, this was easier. The moving closer the teasing words. R'an hoped he wasn't wrong and about to get hit.

'Just go with it mine,' Syriacuths voice drifted in even as he took off into the skies, his large wings, scarred on one side pushing him up and carrying him into the blue. The dragon gave out a bugle of warning to those around him that he was now in the sky and they better respect him now. Though as the dragon climbed higher, he let out a croon to Kalteth to join him. 'Let's fly!' He called to her.

R'an was distracted and visibly took a deep breath as he felt the emotions from his dragon wash over him. "Sorry." He apologized, "it's easier to deal with when I'm up there with him, it's like this sudden rush of traveling really fast except you're not moving." He blushed alittle, that sounded better put together in his head.

Syriacuth glanced down at his rider and Sh'en and spoke only to Kalteth. 'Does yours like mine?' He asked curiously, careful to pay attention to how he was flying so that he didn't knock into her.

He ran a hand through his longish hair, dislodging the low ponytail he kept it in for the moment, "um... I don't know if I've ever been too much of a handful." Why was he suddenly getting a bit nervous? "But it could be the artist in me." He watched Sh'en suddenly worried he had ruined their flirting.

Sh'en laughed, relaxing a little. Far from ruining it, R'an's awkwardness just made it real in a refreshing way.

A lot of people that Sh'en knew at the weyr (who would be interested in flirting) were older (some a little too old for his taste) and more experienced. Sh'en... wasn't as experienced . so it was nice to feel... smooth. For once.

“Maybe!” he said, “Maybe you just have finer hands.” he stole another glance at R'an's hands. “So.” he said, seeming to switch topics, though there was something about his attitude that said that the flirting wasn't over...

“Speaking of art... we were going to find you some inspiration.”

Kalteth ascended and did a basic circling motion, just enjoying the air around her. she said to Syriacuth, laughing,

Sh'en said.

because if she shared the thoughts he was having, he'd be embarrassed. A little.

she asked, diving playfully under him and coming up to the side,

The sudden change in subject made him blink then laugh, "Yes, you're right. So where do you suppose we look for it?" He asked, re-tying his hair back. He couldn't stop himself from looking Sh'en over, he wouldn't mind drawing the younger boy. He was cute and his smile was pretty. Though not pretty like a girl, but still...pretty.

Meanwhile Syriacuth crooned back to Kalteth. 'I think he does. Mine can get lonely but Yours doesn't make him feel that way anymore.' He commented.

Swooping under her and appearing on her other side Syriacuth nodded his head as he flew. 'I do like you as well.' He added with a dragon grin.

R'an was still watching Sh'en, but he could feel the playfulness from his dragon and it made him smile.

Rashel Kitsune
I'm blushing

said Kalteth, laughing as he found his way to the other side of her. She gave Syriacuth a return grin as she sped up, looking back to see if he could keep up with her as she streaked through the sky. she said, backwinging once before – slightly ahead of him – she did a loop. She made a sound oddly like a whoop as the edge of the loop brought her back even with Syriacuth. She was glad that her rider could make someone else feel less lonely – loneliness was a terrible feeling, and she never wished to feel it, ever.

she laughed merrily, flapping her wings so that she did a quick rise and, then, a quick drop in altitude before coming back even with Syria. she asked Syriacuth,

Hmmm... Odd... thought Sh'en. He had never thought of R'an as lonely, but then again, he was only human, with a very distracting dragon in his head. He couldn't get everything right.

Besides: that would be boring.

Kalteth took the time to reiterate to Sh'en what she had relayed, though she was – as usual – distracted. Flying was wonderful. Flying with Syriacuth... even better... but it demanded her attention, and she was happy to give it.

“Well.” he said slowly. He could see that R'an was looking – it wasn't hard to tell – and he felt encouraged and smug... and a little relieved that he hadn't been wasting R'an's time by flirting with him. Clearly he was interested. At the very least, he hadn't not-wanted it. In response to the man's looking – and because Sh'en was not done flirting yet – he struck an affected pose. “We can start with me? Seeing as I'm right here. Right now.” he smirked, he was sure R'an was seeing. He toyed with his collar. “I can do just about anything.” he said, “I'm very flexible.” he stretched, his riding uniform opening slightly at the top – apparently, one of the attaching buckles had come undone during his fiddling... totally accidental, of course – and he smiled at R'an, a hint of mischeiviousness in his eyes.
