Rider

Name: C'per
Age: 27
Gender: male
Sexual Orientation: bisexual
Rank: Wingrider/Wherholder, Smithcraft Apprentice
History:
C'per was born Coperit, the fifth child of a couple that had grown tired of raising children by the time he came around. They lived in a Seahold along the eastern coast of the Northern Continent, under Benden's protection. His father was a fishercrafter who spent as much time on work as possible, and his mother was a simple woman who did basic work in the hold kitchen, halfway between a Bakercrafter and a drudge. Coperit was mostly raised by his older sister Jerisa for the first 5 turns of his life, as his parents had little to do with him and his other siblings kept busy with their own interests. As a result, she was the only member of his family he felt any connection to. He minded her well enough, but the rest of his family seemed little different from the other members of the hold so he cared less what they thought of him.

Eventually someone noticed his substandard care and he was fostered off. He was sent to a neighboring inland hold and lived with a family with two boys of their own. His new father was stern but fair. He was made to work hard (at Harper lessons, chores, etc.) but earned appropriate recognition for his successes, failures and progress. He felt much more comfortable and worked hard to please his new family. He proved to be clever with his hands and good at figuring out what things did, so he began studying to be a smith. He dabbled in a little Ancientcraft when he had the time because he found the devices fascinating, and proved to have a knack for mending devices of all kinds, both smith-made and Ancient-work.

When he was 14, some riders came to the Smithcraft Hall on Search. They selected Coperit as one who might be able to Impress. He considered the opportunity and decided to take them up on it, traveling to Benden with them to become a Candidate. He did not Impress at the clutch he'd been Searched for, but he stayed at the Weyr and continued studying as a Candidate. A year later there was another clutch, which he stood at.

One of the brown hatchlings took most of the hatching to Impress. He'd hatched early on, then spent the time walking among the boys, and briefly the girls, looking over them all very carefully. It was unclear what he was looking for as he examined them from every angle and peered up at some of the faces, since he showed few signs of approval or disapproval. Finally he trotted up to Coperit and looked him straight in the eyes. You are the best here, he declared. Come, we shall work well together.

The pair swiftly dedicated themselves to their duties. Both trained hard to prepare for Threadfall and other rider duties. Rugarth in particular was driven to excel and aimed to rise ever higher, hoping to earn a position of rank. C'per knew they worked well and with great dedication, decided they ought to be able to gain enough respect to earn a good rank, and worked with his bondmate to try and make that happen. Both noticed that the ranking positions tended to go to shiny dragons most often. It wasn't impossible for a brown to reach the higher ranks like Wingleader, but it was uncommon. They refused to let that hold them back and determined to be so exemplary that they could not be denied the rank

Still, when word of the Revolutionists reached them, they were eager to hear the proposed changes. A system where rank was earned based on merit, not hide color and where everyone would have an equal chance to prove themselves seemed like just the thing they wanted. They signed up with no hesitation and devoted themselves to driving all resistance from Benden. They continue to devote themselves to the cause and work diligently to further it, as well as themselves.

When Banshidheth, the Wherholds' only queen, rose in Flight, it seemed only one more chance for Rugarth to show his strength and skill. He chased persistently, and his endurance and respect for her ultimately lead to him winning the long Flight and siring the Wherhold's first clutch. Both C'per and Rugarth are quite proud of this and hope the clutch is a large and strong one, to further show that a brown can take any role traditionally held by a bronze, if they work hard enough for it.

Description:
C'per is tall and muscular, with strong facial features. His nose is slightly hooked, has grey eyes that are not too large, and a square jaw. His light brown hair is kept trimmed very short, and he stays clean shaven, though he has neatly trimmed sideburns that reach nearly to his jaw. He has an olive skin tone, which is frequently darkened by work in the sun. Rugarth wanted only the best, and made sure his rider was handsome as well as intelligent.

Personality:
C'per is firm believer in fair work and recognition. He wants to rise in rank, but knows such things must be earned and he's not afraid to work hard to earn it. He dedicates himself to Rider duties to try and earn respect in that field, and continues to pursue Smithcraft when he has the time, in hopes that he may be promoted to Journeyman. He does the best possible work at all times. He seeks tasks he knows he can complete well, so time is not wasted in training him instead of giving it to someone who already knows the job. If assigned a task or responsibility that he does not know how to do but feels he's able to learn, he requests assistance in learning the task so that he can perform it competently as soon as possible. If he's given a task he's utterly unsuited for, like skilled work in an unfamiliar field, he will not hesitate to respond that he's unsuited to the task and seek something he can do better. He dislikes having to do work he's not suited for, since he feels it's a waste of everyone's time.

C'per desires to have his work acknowledged. He dislikes both flattery and having his work ignored. He accepts complements gracefully if they are warranted, and understands that some routine work may only deserve the barest of notice. He accepts criticism when he feels it's constructive and valid, and is disdainful of overly harsh criticism and insults. But he is not a fighter; his dislike is generally expressed in things like unkind looks, gestures or body language. He rarely wastes words on such things.

He is more forgiving than Rugarth, willing and able to to let things go, as long as any slight does not affect his work. He gets exasperated when politics and bureaucracy delay fixing or implementing things, especially anything he thinks would be a quick or obvious fix. Similarly, gets annoyed when someone with absolute control on something forces everyone to implement an idea he thinks is ill-advised. He will not actually disobey orders, and rarely drags his feet in carrying them out, but may complain to peers when he dislikes how things are being run.

C'per rarely forms purely social relationships. He sees almost everyone only in light of rank and station, with little to no personal attachment involved. Therefor everyone is treated with polite professionalism, with varying degrees of attention and kindness based on their rank in comparison to his own. However, he has a soft spot for children, and will treat them with more kindness and familiarity than almost anyone else, besides Rugarth.

Pros: analytical, hard worker, ambitious, forgiving
Cons: feels slighted if his accomplishments aren't recognized, no patience for unwise governance, coolly professional in interpersonal relationships
Other:

Dragon
Name: Rugarth (ROO-garth)
Age: 12
Colour: brown
Description: [image here]
Reddish tint to his hide, a sort of cinnamon brown. Has a scar on one eye from a wound he got in the Flight with Banshidheth. That eye lid is a bit stiff because of the scar and doesn't quite open fully, though his vision is unimpaired.
Size/Build: Large/Above Average
Personality:
Rugarth has a very calculative mind. When he wants something, he considers very carefully how to get it, and is very clever about finding solutions. He will often come up with several possible methods to solve an issue, making sure to consider both the obvious and the less conventional, and determine which would best meet his needs. He is patient, willing to put in motion plans that will take time to come to fruition if he determines that's the wisest course of action. He choses his words carefully, and strives to speak clearly and without unnecessary chatter. Once he's set his mind on a course of action, there is very little will dissuade him from following through on it.

He is in fact remarkably stubborn, and once his mind is set on a matter, he's loath to give up on the idea unless it's proven thoroughly wrong or inadvisable. He also holds grudges fro quite a long time. When he feels wronged or slighted, he won't easily forget it. With draconic memory being what it is, he's likely to soon forget the particular grievance, but that doesn't abate his ire. If possible it makes things worse, since he remembers that he dislikes someone without remembering why, so he'll continue to dislike them without an easy way for them to get in his good graces again.

When Rugarth does want something, he is sure to only want the best. Starting with his appearance; he must be perfectly groomed at all times. He enjoys frequent baths and oiling, and fancies that when he's freshly oiled his hide takes on a deep coppery sheen. Some temporary imperfections are inevitable, such as getting dirty when working, bloody when eating, or perhaps wounded by Thread. But he does his best to minimize such mess; he strives to always eat neatly, work cleanly, and fly carefully. The one permanent mar to his hide is a scar across his right eye, but since he earned that siring a queen's clutch, he bears that mark with pride.

He desires his rider and weyr to be similarly clean and well-appointed. He was sure to chose a rider who was physically attractive and intelligent, and hounds his rider to make sure he stays fit and well-groomed. He insists that C'per always wears the best riding leathers ne can afford, that he has a few fine outfits for Gathers and special occasions, and that even common work clothes be at least well-fitting and as clean as possible. Rugarth's weyr is regularly cleaned and unusually adorned, since he's managed to acquire a couple wall hangings with pretty patterns (really repurposed rugs, which would be impractical under his claws) and a hammered copper incense brazier crafted by C'per. He has a particular weakness for incense, and if he had his way there would always be some sweet-smelling wood, oil or resin burning in his weyr. That of course is not always possible, but he does have his rider burn some when he wants to relax.

He is not stupid and understand that such things as he likes costs money, so he works hard to earn his expensive lifestyle. He is diligent in completing his duties, volunteers for extra work (such as hunting wild whers that may be threatening outlying holds) to earn extra marks, and encourages C'per to continue his studies in Smithcraft so that his rider can earn more coin for his own fine things.

Pros: crafty, patient, methodical, driven, doesn't mince words, hard working
Cons: holds grudges, stubborn, vain, has expensive tastes
