Skorga, now that she was fully-grown and not as wary of the forest dangers, was out wandering the forests once more. Her lessons with the Shaman continued, but occurred at increasingly longer intervals now. She was expected to attempt to learn on her own, practice and strength her magical and physical muscles, and try new things. All of which she liked; though it also meant running into the ever increasing awkwardness of her sister and Skjalg as her sister kept butting into her time with Skjag.
She hadn’t approached her sister about her feelings for Skjalg… but then Thani hadn’t approached her about her feelings either. And it did seem like Skjalg liked her, at least that’s what Skorga thought. I’ll go talk with her this afternoon, she thought, get this sorted out. Or, she thought as she spotted a familiar figure, I can attempt that other idea I had. Nearby sitting in a small glade by himself was Nirven, a Khehora a year older than her who she knew had a crush on her sister, was practicing his shadow magic. He was quite a bit bigger than Skorga, with a deep black with lighter grey markings along his haunches and wings and vivid red eyes. He had a tendency to be aggressive and very forward about his opinions, which amused Skorga to see him so very shy around her sister. She slunk through the shadows and climbed a tree to get a better perch above him.
“Nirven.” She hissed from above and was rewarded with a startled jerk as she surprised him. He looked around then up and relaxed just a little when he saw it was her. Not al the way, because you never knew what she was plotting.
“Skorga... what’re you doing now? Plotting more pranks?”
She hissed and slithered to a branch closer to him. “Not yet.. perhaps I can … help you though.”
He eyed her, help? Her? What sort of strings were going to be attached? And why would he need her help? She could read that clearer in his body language and gave a chuckled. Stretching out, she lazed about on the branch, the picture of innocence and relaxation.
“Help with Thani, silly. You are so very confident...but around her?” She chuckled. "How cute to see you quiet and shy!"
He gave an embarrassed growl and shifted, eyeing the area around to make sure no one else was near by. This could be an attempt o embarrass him after all. “Dunno what you’re talking about.”
“So all those sighs and mournful gazes from a distance are aimed at someone else? Who could it be then?” Skorga mused, “Skjalg? You’re eyeing him?”
“What? No!”
“Ah… then Amehlo? Because who else is around her when I see those looks?” She stopped teasing and gave him an amused smirk. “Don’t lie, Nirven. You known that I can always find out secrets.”
Nirven growled and gave another look around. Maybe she was being honest for once? Helpful? It was her sister after all… and the clan knew that she was sweet only to her family and a few friends. “Well... fine. Yeah. I’ve been eyeing Thathani. Got a problem with that?”
“Problem? Me?” Skorga chuckled as he gave in. “No. But if you don’t... approach her she won’t know you ever even looked her way.” Skorga slipped down the tree trunk to circle about the older male as she talked; “Thani’s shy… quiet. Thinks she’s... not good enough. You should… go tell her she’s beautiful, smart, all those things… Thani’s got problems with her self-esteem. She won’t believe me if I tell her a boy likes her or if I compliment her. She says I just say that to make her feel better.… but if a boy approaches her? Well... maybe she’ll believe him…. And maybe it’ll help her feel better about herself to know that other’s find her… desirable. Might even… reciprocate some if she finds the other... approachable enough.” Skorga sashayed away, stopping briefly to look over her shoulder with a smirk. “I know of a few other’s who’re interested in her… Misha for one.” She said with a laugh as she vanished into the forest.
There! She thought to herself; that should get him to approach her… I hope Thani does fall for someone else… cause I want Skjalg! But I’d rather not hurt her…. And maybe father is right, maybe I won’t care for him in a few years… but I like him now. And Thani does need to know she’s a beautiful, smart, kind, caring girl… Guess I got all her confidence! Maybe boys telling her these things will improve her confidence.. so it’s not like I’m just doing this to free up Skjalg… no, not at all! It’s just.. an effect.
As she meandered through the forest, enjoying the sound and smells of the forest, she caught the scent of Magescians… and fowl. Her stomach rumbled, reminding her it was about time to go eat… why not attempt to steal some food from two-leggers? Practice her skills while she was at it!
Slinking up into a tree, Skorga flit silently from tree to tree towards her intended prey. The Magescian’s, she saw, was just a father daughter pair. And both were down by the lake’s edge… leaving those tasty looking Lyru all by themselves! Well, I’ll just help myself then, she thought with an eager grin as she slipped down to the ground and slunk towards the camp. She did not count on the Lyru themselves to be more aware than the Magescian’s. She certainly did not except the trap line across her path! The clang of the bells on the trip wire and the calls of the Lyru gave her away. Hissing in consternation, Skorga fled back into the forest, not wanting to risk a confrontation with a Magescian just yet. Not until she was older, stronger…
Muttering to herself, angered that she hadn’t noticed the trip line, she flew back home. She was not going to mention this to anyone.. especially not Amehlo! Her brother would never let her forget it…..
