Youma were by no means too much for Ganymede to handle.
She had enough experience with them at this point. Over three years had taught her much in dealing with them, in being able to recognize the empty-headed monsters with the more intelligent beasts she might actually need to watch out for. She could handle either unassisted. In many ways the encounters were rather predictable. It helped that she could sense them, that she'd honed her hunting skills and knew best how to approach.
But that didn't mean there weren't occasions in which things went wrong.
When civilians were involved, for example.
There weren't many on the scene. A few around a couple of nearby shops. Ganymede recognized one of them as a music store she'd visited once or twice in finding material to help her learn the guitar. That there were civilians around at all put her on edge, however. It made things slightly less predictable, slightly outside of her ability to control.
“What are you doing?!” she shouted to them as the youma prowled and salivated. “Run!”
A couple of them did. But not all of them.

Emily had heard that the Mighty Mighty Bosstones had released a new album. While a rumor at bnst, she did not waste time prowling stores to check, and tonight after homework and classes was no exception, however that didn't mean she was terribly happy stepping outside. Perhaps it was seeing another senshi, but more likely it was looking and seeing a monster. Emily had never seen a beast with claws and saliv dribbling so, and the color from her face for once blanched as dire wolves and other beasties from a JRPG or two crossed her mind, and she froze for a second before looking to the senshi trying to clear the area. Was she nuts? What was that? WHERE WAS THE STRATEGY GUIDE AND HOW DID SHE KEEP WALKING INTO THESE SITUATIONS!? Emily made a face not unlike a disturbed and sonmewhat alarmed kitten, before shouldering her purse, moving backwards slowly to try avoiding attention. "Uhm." Emily asked, uneasily. "What he ******** is that?"

“That,” Ganymede began, switching positions to place herself between the monster and the fleeing (or not fleeing) civilians, “is a youma. And it'll kill you if you don't get a move on.”
Her tone of voice made it very clear that she wasn't issuing any sort of threat. She made the statement as if reviewing a fact of life.
The youma itself stood upright on two legs. Wolf-like, it had a pair of pointed ears that twitched and swiveled in the direction of the loudest screams. It's eyes had a strangely human-like quality to them, while its fur-covered muzzle boasted an impressive set of sharp teeth. A long, wet tongue lolled out; the saliva that dripped from it sizzled against the sidewalk.
“Don't just stand there,” Ganymede warned the girl. “You've got the chance to run. Go.”

The canid youma earned a glance from Emily as Ganymede spoke, the woman seeming to sieve, blinking in place before looking at Ganymede uncertainly. She kept hr voice low - she wasn't missing behavior and she wasn't going to risk being attacked (or seeing it melt one of her shoes, honestly). "Apex hunter. It might track. Besides, what about you?" Emily was all for self-preservation, but this woman wasn't making a move to leave either. One eye remained on the youma, and she frowned warily. It was terrifying - she wasn't ready to let it run loose, though. What if - What if DADDY had come?!

“What are you talking about?”
The girl was not having the sort of reaction Ganymede would have preferred. She had no idea what the girl meant by her observations. Apex hunter? It might track? Was she talking about the youma? It seemed that way. Regardless, now wasn't really the time for either of them to be standing around making weird comments about a creature that looked as if it wanted to devour them.
Thankfully, aside from a few distracted glances around the area, the youma seemed to be focusing most of its attention on Ganymede. She moved slowly, making sure it kept her in its sights, searching for the best angle from which to attack it.
“I've got this covered,” she explained. “This isn't anything I can't handle. It'd be easier if there weren't other distractions around, though,” she said pointedly. “The more people there are, the more likely it is that someone's going to get hurt.”

"That... Thing." Emily motioned at the Youma. "That nose picks up scents well. He can track. And loud noises are getting it's attention." Emily moved slowly, watching. Truthfully, she was terrified, but her drive to flee was overrun from watching. "What about a weapon? You don't -- where would you get one to kill it?" Emily's voice faltered and anxiety lit across her face. She was trying, at least.... But afraid.

Ganymede listened to the girl's explanations but inevitably shook them from her mind as something to think about later. She wasn't even entirely sure a youma functioned the same as a normal animal.
Some said they'd once been human. Did the girl's observations apply, then?
“Look around you,” Ganymede told her. “There's plenty to use for a weapon. If it's needed.”
The youma charged before she could get out another word. Ganymede gritted her teeth and met it head on, grappling with the creature as it made to bite her. Her arms shook from the effort, but she managed to keep it at bay. It snapped its fanged muzzle at her neck and missed by inches. Ganymede lifted one leg and struck with her foot, the heel of her boot connecting with the youma's knee. The youma yelped and stumbled, scampering back to prowl low and growl.
“I know what I'm doing,” Ganymede announced. “I've done this for years. This guy looks vicious but he's one of the weaker ones. He'll put up a fight, but he'll go down easy.”

Emily was about to make a noise to acknowledge plenty of potential weapons, then started a bit as it charged. Knew what she was doing or not, she did worry about the woman. She could only pale, just a little, at mention this was a weaker one, though, and Wren slowly took another step back, watching. Briefly she wondered why these things occured while she was out lately, but more importantly was this woman fighting some abomination out of a Thor movie. Should she help? Emily studied the monster a moment before moving to look for something to help Ganymede with. Really, it didn't matter how - a pipe, a bat or stick, stones - she wasn't comfortable leaving someone alone, experienced or not, with a predator. Even professionals got hurt by their animals - Gunther Gable Williams likely had been, and Roy of Sigfried and Roy had their accident. No, Emily didn't feel right when she owned doghs and knew how to do anything with them, and a weapon was a good idea, Wren carefully beginning to look for heavy things.

While the youma was recovering from the last attack, Ganymede took her own advice and searched quickly for some sort of a weapon. She found an empty bottle made of glass by an overflowing trashcan and made a dive for it.
The youma charged again when it sensed an opening. Ganymede's fingers wrapped around the neck of the bottle and she rolled out of the way just seconds before the youma's sharp teeth snapped at her neck. She ended up somewhat behind the youma. Taking the opportunity, she brought the empty bottle down hard on the back of the youma's head.
It shattered with a loud burst of glass. Pieces of it got caught in the youma's fur. Ganymede watched as blood seeped from a wound at the back of the youma's skull. The youma crumpled to the ground with a growling moan.
“See?” Ganymede said. Her breathing was heavier than before. That had been a little too close for comfort. “Nothing to worry about. Not too much longer and this thing should be dust.”

Emily watched Ganymede move as she picked up a half-rotten peice of fencing by the can nearest to her, letting the senshi work first, and she nodded, sighing finally. "Dust? I'll feel better when it's dead." She frowned, moving close to offer the wood. Although ready to hit it herself if needed, the senshi was obviously used to this Emily was not, and she frowned at the youma warily. "What is that thing even loose for?" She asked, hissing at it. "Is someone trying to kill people or something?" If so she didn't like it. No sir.

“You could say that,” Ganymede said.
She took the proffered piece of wood and held it in both hands, aiming it down toward the back of the youma's neck. With a quick and efficient thrust Ganymede managed to impale the neck. The youma gurgled mournfully, dark eyes glaring up at Ganymede as if to promise vengeance. Then it burst into dust.
Ganymede sighed in relief and dropped the piece of wood, dragging a hand over her sweaty forehead.
“Not so bad,” she said. She could have done without civilians being around, though. “These things come around to eat people's souls, more or less. Servants of the Negaverse. Those are the bad guys in this little superhero adventure, by the way. Those monsters are called youma.”

Dust? Emily moved close carefully, kneeling to look closer but otherwise remained upwind. "Soul-Eating youma." She responded. "Nega- wow, if they have a marketing department, they failed at brasnding." Emily shook her head slowly before standing and looking to Ganymede, bowing politely. "Still, it's nice to meet you. Emily Wren Wiley. Or just Emily Wiley. My aunt is also Emily Wiley though." She introduced politely. "Glad we met."

Ganymede snorted but otherwise made no further comment on the Negaverse or its operations. She didn't expect a mere civilian would be able to understand, so lacking in experience she expected this girl to be.
Then again, once couldn't live in Destiny City without hearing something of the war that took place within its boundaries. Perhaps she wasn't giving the non-powered folk enough credit. Sure, she'd been fairly ignorant as a civilian, but surely no everyone was as willingly blind as she had been.
“Sailor Ganymede,” she responded. She did not return the bow, simply propped her hands onto her hips and studied the girl now that she no longer had a youma breathing down her neck. “I'm a Senshi. One of the good guys, though certain people might lead you to believe otherwise. Those people are dead wrong.”
With her defeat of the youma, she hoped to have put some of what the naysayers said to rest.
“Anyway, next time I'd advise you to run. A civilian could take on one of these things and win if they're lucky and run into one of the stupider, weaker ones, but I wouldn't recommend it. No offense, but it's best if you just stay out of the way.”

Emily listened intently, nodding a bit. "Well, you need to remember, the media likes frenzies too. Panic breeds sales." She shrugged at the thought, and then listened to Ganymede's description of youma. "That bad?" She asked. Her tone was curious - the scientist was creeping out now she wasn't seeing some werewolf-thing coming for her blood. "Are they all slow? Do they get faster?" Ganymede seemed knowledgeable at least, and was trying to help. This was interesting. Monsters? WELL LET'S LEARN HOW TO HANDLE THAT, naturally. Once again she wondered if RPGs were affecting her experience though.

The girl's continued questions concerned Ganymede. In her experience, the people who asked the most questions were the people who couldn't be depended upon to stay out of the way. Their curiosity got the better of them and led them right into the thick of things. That worried her. She didn't want civilians getting hurt unnecessarily.
“Some of them can be pretty fast, yeah. Most of the ones I deal with are pretty stupid, but some get real smart and real fast. Some of them are even capable of speech.”
Luckily, the bigger threats were few and far between when it came to a normal night of patrols.
“They get big, too,” she advised. “One time there was this one a lot of us fought that was like a dragon. Like, Harry-Potter-dragon big. Fortunately the Negaverse seems to save those for special occasions. It's not often you'll see something like that wandering around the city.”NovaCracker I'm so sorry, Nova!!
