Saskia stared down into the depths of the pond. Her friend was down there, doing... whatever it was gators did when they hid among the reeds and driftwood of a quiet stream. She imagined he was hunting fish, but for all she knew he was taking a nice long nap.
She sighed. There was no point calling out to him. The water would muffle her attempts just like every other time he went and hid from her in the murkey depths. Waiting would be the best corse of action now.
Still, "Why must you act like such a petulant child?"

Yu Ling was walking along the edge of a pond, heading towards home, enjoying the quiet and the cool air. It had been a pleasent and energetic day, but he was ready to relax. He noticed an orange mare up ahead, and curved away, slightly, so as to avoid banging into her, or bothering her.
However, when he got close, he heard her speak and blinked, thinking she had, for some strange reason, said that to him. "I beg your pardon?

She jumped slightly at the strange voice that had suddenly appeared right beside her.
"Oh! Oh... I was just... talking to myself," that much was true at least. She took a deep breath, then released it. "Sorry. You scared me just now. Did you, um, come for a drink of water?"

He blinked, for a moment, then shook his head. "Oh my apologies, I misunderstood. A case of bad timing, I suppose." He then had the grace to look sheepish at her comment about his scaring her. "And again, my apologies. I did not intend to scare anyone."
He glanced at the water, then smiled, shaking his head once more. "No, I just was passing by. This is one of my favorite paths home, on a day like. Cool, a nice view of the water... It's perfect."

She breathed a sigh of releaf, "Good. This is going to sound strange but, my friend is swimming right now, and he has a tendancy to snap at those who make ripples unnanouned."
Her attention drifted back to the still waters. Really, it should be easier to spot a bright orange gator in the dingy brown waters. She felt that she would never fully understand her friend's surprising abilitiy.

His brows rose at her words, and he tilted his head, pondering that statement. "Not a very friendly friend, then, I take it?" He glanced into the water, curious as to who might be swimming, and why they'd bite.
When he turned back to her, he noticed she seemed focused on the water herself. "Is something the matter? Has your friend been under for too long?" He didn't know what to suggest if that was the case, as he was useless in the water, but he had to ask.

"Oh, he's friendly in his own way," she laughed. "He's just hunting right now and he doesn't always think before he snaps. You see, my friend, Nigg, is a bright orange gator. I don't know if he coats himself in mud before he goes swimming or what, but I can't spot the fellow until he's already caught his prey. I've taken to idling nearby to warn off soquili and any spitir blessed creatures who may pass through."

He blinks slowly, considering her words, then nodding in understanding. "I see. I do understand, my own friend Haru can be a bit like that, at times, though Haru is more a silly sort, getting all overly excited when he's had a bit too many berries. Sugar high and all..."
