Yukiko was pacing around the entrance of her cave, she couldn’t figure out for the life of her why she kept thinking about that stallion she had meet a couple weeks back when she did her first run of prep work for the winter. She felt agitated really, when she thought about him. She poked her hoof into the ground and grumbled under breath about this being why she lived in the mountains like this. She reminisced about the time they spent together. Or rather the time he lingered around…

She frowned wondering why after practically ignoring him he stayed nearby, and that weird feeling of …comfort! COMFORT from another horse. Her blue eyes flashed with annoyance; she even gave him an apple.

She shook her head and sighed out, she had better things to be doing. She needed to go and get more apples and vegetables in her stores. So she headed down the mountain, it was a long way down and an even longer trek back up. As the Usdia made her way down the small and not very well worn path she could smell Autumn in the air. She knew that along the animals would be stocking up on food too for their hibernation. This meant that she needed to collect for her hibernation. She usually ended up frozen into her cave in the middle of winter for a couple weeks. She didn’t mind it at all. She liked being alone. Right? Her mind drifted back toward that strange stallion that hung around with her as she reached the base of the mountain and ended back to the orchard that the two had met at. Why wasn’t he turned off by her lack of… acknowledgement?

Phantasm had been growing weary the past couple days. He had been missing his family and they were always nowhere to be found. His mother, his father, his siblings as well as distant family wanted nothing to do with him. He didn’t know how they felt about each other, but he had no one to turn to. Sometimes he wished he did and then others times he didn’t care one way or another. He liked his solitude even though it was a nice thing to have met that other mini mare not that long ago. She was definitely different and something he wasn’t use to, but then again he wasn’t use to interacting with anyone other then his two friends.

Letting out a soft sigh, he walked out of his home or at least that was what he called it. It was a dead tree stump that sheltered him from pretty much everything. He could shack up in there for days if he needed to and be fine. He slowly made his way down the usual old dirt path that was becoming more and more prominent with all the times he trampled the grass into the ground. Soon there wouldn’t be any grass and he knew that. But he slowly continued on his way to finding something to eat. Maybe some berries or something similar. He didn’t want to travel too far only because they were a pain to drag back. He wasn’t exactly a big stallion, so he always had the hardest time. Specter and Wraith did nothing useful and would just laugh at him or try to make him drop it if they could. He hated it, but then what would he do without the two of them?

As he came into a small clearing, he heard the footsteps of another not too far away. He didn’t know if he should approach at first and his ears perked on his head as he looked around.

“Just go see what it is~ What harm can come from that?” A faint voice spoke against his ear.

“He is probably too scared. He was always so afraid of us when he was younger.” A voice much more profound then the other said before going into a small fit of giggles.

His two friends were always poking fun at him in the strangest ways, but he didn’t let it get to him. “Both of you be quiet. I have to see what it is regardless since it’s in the direction I’m going. Now get back in my neck so you don’t scare whoever it is away.” He said to the two of them before watching them fade away into the gaping gash on his neck. When he finally managed to get closer to the noise, he stopped when he saw who and what it was. He remembered her from before. She was the mare he met not that long ago and the one he found to be a little strange.

“Hello.” He said to her hoping his friends didn’t come out this time. They didn’t the last time they spoke and feared she would end up fleeing in fear at how weird he was.

Yukiko had been lost in her own thoughts when she reached the base of the mountain. She chewed softly on the satchel she carried and when she heard the voice she jumped where she stood and turned her head quickly toward it. It was a stallion. No, it was –the- stallion. The one she was just thinking about. “Phantasm.” She breathed out, surprised that she even remember this name. She slung the satchel over her back and blinked over at him again. “I-it’s nice to see you again.” The words were out before she knew what she was saying.

She leaned forward as if she was going to take a step toward him and then hesitated. Her ear flicked and then she walked toward him. She needed to head that way anyways. She wanted to get some stuff that the two legs left behind for the horses for winter. As she drew closer to him she tilted her head lightly and nodded her head in the direction she was going. She was inviting him to join her if he wanted too. It was an odd sensation she felt with his presence there. Her steps seem to have a bit more bounce in them. Was this was it was like to have a …Friend? Were they even friends? They had only met once before.

No no, they certainly weren’t ‘friends’ the word didn’t exist in Yukiko’s vocabulary! The mare was a loner and that was … She glanced to the side as she passed him. His expression was a little unreadable but it certainly wasn’t one of “Ugh I can’t stand her” or “I don’t want to be near you.” That caused the smaller mare to stumble but she caught herself.
