Rayolun had just finished getting Rownin all washed and brushed, something the roati adored. It was a daily habit now to clean the roati at the end of the day or during the middle of the hot afternoon. Cooled him off, gave him attention, and let Rayolun get all the snarls out. No wonder we don’t have such shaggy creatures in the jungle, he thought with a wry smile as he looked at the clumps he’d trimmed off. They’d be a mess! He stood up and dusted off the fur that clung to him before gathering his gear up. “Time to go back,” he said to Rownin who was not paying attention. The roati was sniffing around the base of a large tree, his small fluffy tail wagging happily. He suddenly stiffened then gave a hoarse bark before darting off into the jungle. “Rownin!” Rayolun shouted out before cursing under his breath as he started running after his companion. “Stupid….” His roati just loved to chase animals… especially dangerous ones. I bet he fell into the sea jumping off the ship to chase sharks! Ray thought with a smirk as he silently and quickly scaled a tree to chase after Rownin in a slightly safer environ. Wonder what he smelled this time? Hope it’s not a menzuri. He thought as he scanned for marks in the branches to show if they’d been through. Rownin always finds them, he thought with a sinking heart as he saw the tracks. Muttering angrily, he sped up, his hands shifting to grip the spear more firmly. Rownin started barking loudly, his gruff voice echoing damply off the jungle greenery as he charged happily at the dangerous Menzuri. Rayolun, high above the crystalline insect, readied himself to jump while it was distracted by his stupid roati. Trident ready to stab, he silently launched himself at it, thrusting right as he landed on top of it. His trident it sickening crunch and the creature gave a gurgle and shuddered as it collapsed and the legs curled in death.
“You stupid beast!” Rayolun growled at Rownin who was happily and proudly sniffing the body as if he was the one who’d killed it. “Stop charging off into the jungle!”
