Name: Vesin
Age: 25 turns
Gender: Female
Rank: Wingsecond at Igen Weyr (past)
Appearance: picture (on right in blue)
She has long, bright red hair that is held back in a braid; it usually rests over her right shoulder. Vesin as green eyes just a shade brighter than her sister. She is 5'5" with moderate curves. There's a light dusting of freckles across her cheeks and nose. She tends toward light blues in her clothing.
Personality:
-Adventurous: Like her twin, Vesin likes to explore and see new things. She has a small curiosity about the world around her and how things work.
-Ambitious/Determined: She will always desire more for herself and her sister. But she's not unreasonable. She sets feasible goals and works to achieve them.
-Protective/Reliable: Vosin means the world to Vesin. She knows her sister tends to be a little spontaneous though not on purpose. With her sister driven by her emotions, Ves is always there to make sure she doesn't get into too much trouble, but will always be right beside her if she does. She'll always be there to lend a hand to Vosin or anybody else in need.
-Calculating: Being more strategic of mind, Ves will likely calculate every possible outcome to a situation before making her decision. This tends to make her slow to decide and not good at snap decisions but has helped the twins out of some crappy situations.
-Romantically Naive: She doesn't seem to want or think she will ever want a romantic relationship. She's completely naive when it comes to them in the first place. Flirting would seem as if the other was just being nice. She wouldn't notice or want someone's advances.
Vesin is her sister’s partner in crime…generally the one that makes the plans and will figure out an escape plan if things don’t go according to plan. She’s adventurous and will be right next to Vosin with anything the twins may get into their heads to do. She has a small curiosity about the things and world around her and she likes to know how things work. Sometimes people may think she’s sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong but it’s all harmless. Vesin would never try to take anything over that she’s not an expert in; she just wants to know how it works!
That being said, she has a drive to learn more and do more and BE more. She has ambition and determination that fuel her fire and keep her going. It fueled one of the hardest decisions she ever had to make and that was leaving home and transferring to Igen. Leaving her parents and her brothers and the only thing that made it bearable was having Vosin beside her. She desires more for not only herself but also for her sister. She knows they’re at a disadvantage and will do what she can to overcome it. She has her dreams but she knows that most of them can only be dreams. Vesin is very reasonable in all things. She sets reasonable goals for herself, ones she knows are achievable.
She knows that Vos is quite the opposite in that manner and will often be there to pick up the pieces. Vesin is completely reliable in every sense. If one of her siblings needs her, she’ll be there no matter what. This sometimes comes off as protective which is something she is. If one of her siblings is in trouble, she’ll try to take the fall for them, or do what she can to get them out of it. She does this with a very reasonable mind and thinks through every possible outcome to choose the one that will have the best outcome. The only problem is that it may not be the fastest and may not be great if in a time crunch. Vesin isn’t great with snap decisions and any she has to make will most likely not be the best. She's lucky that her twin is good at them, however, and tends to be the more dominant one in their wing seconds position while Ves handles more of the logistics and whatever that doesn't need to be decided immediately.
Vesin’s family means the world to her. And knowing that her parents are 550 turns in the past and were likely killed in the massacre and even if they weren't they were dead now is something that is really hard on the young woman. The only relationships she has are with her siblings. And even before the massacre, Ves was romantically naïve. She doesn't realize when people are flirting with her and she honestly wouldn't know if she would want someone’s advances in the first place; especially with all these people from the future. It was hard enough being a female bronze rider in her own time, now how is she supposed to get attached to things and people 550 turns in the future?
History:
Vesin was born a weyrbrat at Benden Weyr to V'ron of brown Blakarth and Messelin of green Mumunyeth. Their mother was searched for a gold egg, but ended up impressing a green instead. The twins had a good relationship with their parents and their father supported them during their candidacy. When they turned 5, their first brother Vosrik was born. And when they were 13 turns, their youngest brother Vesresh was born.
A short two turns later, the twins got it in their heads that they wanted to see the world. To accomplish this, they stowed away on a trader caravan. They didn't get far before discovery, however, and were returned promptly. They had to endure extra chores for months and even after their punishment ended the threat of not being allowed to stand the next clutch always loomed if they dare to put another toe out of line. For two years they treaded carefully and became a tad bit more responsible within the Weyr, and on that second year, at the age of 17, their lives changed drastically. A gold egg was proudly laid, and the girls knew they’d be allowed on the Sands. They knew that there was only one gold hatchling, and that one may Impress while the other didn’t. It was a risk they’d have to take and deal with after the hatching was over.
Vosin and her twin both managed to Impress at that clutch, which made them joyful. What put the tunnelsnake among the wherries was that both girls got a bronze. There was quite a bit of indignation among the watching weyrfolk and holders alike. Bad enough that one Impressed a bronze, but both? It was unheard of. Some holders felt their boy should have gotten the bronze, though there was nothing the weyrleaders could do about it. Some of the rejected candidates also felt sour about it, but they got over it in time.
Eighteen months later the bronzes were well grown and mature. They had passed all their classes and tests. Then came the hardest decision the twins had ever made in their lives. They had the full support of their parents which helped. In the end they chose to transfer to Igen Weyr for the better opportunities it provided to women bronzeriders. Leaving her family and friends was more than gut wrenching for Vesin, but she knew to follow her dreams to become all she could, they needed to do this. Her desire to strive for the top kept her resolution strong.
They knew that with this chance, having impressed bronzes, they had an opportunity to be something. The twins transferred and set up their new life late in their eighteenth Turn. The young women were assigned as wingriders to Wing four. They dedicated themselves to being the best bronzeriders they could be.
Vesin worked hard alongside her sister to help her wing achieve their goals. She put in extra practice with drills or firestone and asked help of her sister when she needed it or gave her help to others if they required. Their dedication was noticed by others; specifically, the wingsecond of Wing 3. When he decided to retire he recommended the twins be promoted to fill his spot. It was decided to pair them together in the same wing as they balanced out each other so well. At 25 Turns the twins obtained their highest rank yet of wingseconds.
Several months after their promotion, the Weyrleaders were asked to the meeting with the Lord Holders. The twins were assigned to accompany them. They were ecstatic to be returning to Benden to visit with their family between meetings. Not long after the group of Igen arrived the twins met another female bronzerider by the name of Elane.
Upon arriving at Benden, a place they had left so long ago, they knew they wanted to see their family quickly. It was a happy reunion all around. The twins met a few other female riders and enjoyed getting to know the brothers they had left so young. They had been at breakfast, enjoying the first with their family in quite some time, when the massacre started. Had it not been for Vosin and their parents, Ves might have stayed and fought. But it was important that they get their non-rider brothers out and to safety. Outside she had conflicting feelings of going back in to get others until the Weyrmistress of Benden called to them. Figuring their wings should be hers, they obeyed and took as many people as they could with them and went between. When they ended up at the High Reaches Weyr 550 turns in the future, their landing was hard and both dragon and rider were sore and tired. Everyone was a little stunned, Vesin more so than her sister. Not knowing the fate of their parents and wondering just how they had time traveled kept her curious mind spinning. She wanted to know how it was possible and why it happened. With Vosin’s urging and knowing that they had to do what was best for their brothers, Ves decided they should try to make the best of it, no matter how difficult it would be.
