Things were starting to settle down a bit for the pack. These new lands were still fairly unknown to them but so far they had found the idea place for the pack to settle and with the help of New Dawn pack they were adjusting quickly enough to life here. Orithia was glad nothing had gone wrong with the shift into these new lands. Of course it had been hard on everyone, for they had been forced to leave the only home they'd ever known and traveled into new lands. Orithia was thankful for her mothers leadership in these times. While Orithia had taken on much of the responsibilities as co-queen of her pack there were still a few things she was learning and having to help move a pack the size of theirs to new lands was not something one faced everyday.

Even with things remaining quiet so far the pack was on high alert. They still didn't know all that awaited them in these new lands and so the guards were doubled and border patrols done more than usual. Orithia was taking her turn checking the lands beyond their borders. She wanted to make sure that there were no recent activities close to their new home. There were wolves in this land and they were yet to find out if they were nice or not, plus there were certainly other survivors scattered about. With her senses alert to every sound, smell and sight Orithia moved through the forest almost silently, a trait that she had been trained in since she was a young pup. She paused every now and then to listen more closely to the sounds of the forest, her ears cocked forward.

So far all was quiet. Perhaps she should be relieved by that thought and yet Orithia was more bothered by the lack of wolves than anything else. It had her nerves going and she moved more quickly now. If there was someone out there they must be staying downwind of her and avoiding movement. She glanced back towards the pack lands for a moment before continuing on. Her mother wouldn't be happy with her wandering so far from their border but Orithia was determined to check things out. She had to make sure the pack would be safe, continue to be safe and if that meant venturing out a bit further than so be it.

She paused again catching the barest whiff of wolf scent. It was too faint to tell if it was someone from her pack or a stranger from this land. This far out from the pack lands Orithia was betting on a stranger. She moved forward with more purpose now. She needed to find out who was out there and whether they posed a threat to her pack or not.

Things had been quiet. Much more quiet than she would have liked. Oh there were birds here and there and the occasional rodent she managed to catch for a meal. But things just felt... out of place. Mahu couldn't figure out why it felt that way. She didn't know this place... did she? No. The scents were new. Not 'new but familiar somewhere in her mind'. But new. They triggered no phantom memories. It was all that she really had to go off of. So something else about it being so quiet then. Almost like a calm before a storm, she thought. Perhaps it was because she was too tense? Something deep inside her kept the she-wolf from relaxing her guard. She was constantly on the alert, never staying in one place for too long. To do so was dangerous, her gut told her. Not to mention, the wolves she was tracking (or trailing) were still moving forward. So to stop for a prolonged period of time might risk losing them. And they, these strange wolves she had no knowledge of, were all she really had.

Mahu inhaled deeply before exhaling slowly and sifting through all the scents. Nothing new, so she shouldn't feel so unnerved, right? Except that she did. The she-wolf couldn't determine what might be causing it. Probably some instinct I don't remember perfecting, she thought with a soft snort. She pawed at the ground, testing the solidity. It would work well if she needed to sprint suddenly for any reason. Even if her paws were beginning to grow tired. She had yet to find a place to really rest with the threat of the unknown and being alone plaguing her.

Suddenly the she-wolf felt her skin ripple and out of reaction, she hunched low and padded silently towards some bushes that stank of unripe berries. Something was different now. There was a feeling in the air. Her ears swiveled in all directions, belly barely brushing the ground as she inched along until she could peer through some of the branches. There was another predator in the area. Mahu didn't know how she was sure about this, but she was. Maybe she'd been too foolish. Gotten too close to another creatures den while trailing the large grouping of wolves? Whatever it was, the she-wolf prepared herself for whoever was tracking her now.

Orithia continued walking but her pace was slower now. she could feel the shift in her, going from relaxed scouting mission to crash course with something. Her muscles were tenses and ready to spring into action, her ears were busy swiveling about trying to catch any sound that would tell her who or what was out there and where they were. Her eyes moved left to right, sweeping the area in front of her, checking for any sign of movement or perhaps a sign of someone trying to hide. This area still wasn't completely known to her. In their old lands she knew every bush, rock and tree and knew instantly at a glance if something was off, but here everything was still new to her so spotting things wasn't as easy.

There was a faintest of sounds and she turned her head in that direction. Still she saw nothing, perhaps whoever it was out there was either very well hidden or further away than she thought. Orithia was not in the mood to play a game of cat and mouse. She raised her head, tail held high behind her. "You approach Antianeira lands. Show yourself!" She called out in a firm voice. Even if whoever was out there choose not to come out, often times they would move or make some sound when acknowledged and that would help her zero in on exactly where they were, and then she would deal with this possible intruder.

There were several different things that kept flickering through her mind. Things that she could do to counter this new threat. Or what she perceived as a threat. But each time she tried to grasp onto what her mind wanted to tell her... all she got was fog. Memories. Perhaps instances similar to this she had been in? There was no real way of knowing. All she had was instinct and gut feelings. And her gut feeling was to tread cautiously but not attack. Not yet, anyways. No, not until she knew what she was facing and could calculate the best defense. So Mahu remained hidden, panting softly until her eyes caught the barest hint of movement. Subtly, the she-wolf shifted to give her a better view of the stranger.

A wolf. It was another wolf! The first she had truly seen up close since... well she couldn't remember. Since waking up at the river's side. Her ears swiveled forward, nose working to try and catch the strangers scent. Nothing familiar was triggered. So this was something completely new!

The sudden sound of a voice, firm as it may have been, was harsh on her ears. She hadn't heard anyone but herself speak for a little while now. Mahu studied this other wolf, letting her instinct lead her to make the best decision. Which seemed to allow the stranger to know where she was. Carefully, the she-wolf stood up, creeping from around the bush she'd been concealed in. "Antianeira... lands?" She asked in a voice that was raspy and not used to being louder than soft mumbles. "I am alone." Something prompted her to add. "And not sure... where I am." The she-wolf held herself proudly, unintentionally, not showing any signs of weakness.

Orithia's eyes settled upon the stranger as she stepped into view. Her gaze made a quick sweep over the other wolf, taking in her condition. She seemed fairly well muscled, but not overly so. Orithia herself was small but her size never held her back, she was well trained, her muscles were well defined though partially hidden under her coat. Her ears perked forward slightly at the others voice. She almost missed what had been said the voice was so soft but also raspy. "Antianeira is my pack." She told the other. "And you are near our border." This was the first wolf she had encountered approaching the packs territory since they had settled in her. It was obvious that the quiet times were over, once one wolf had stumbled upon their lands, others were sure to follow.

She took in the others posture. It was not submissive in any way and it made Orithia question the wolfs motives. Those who held themselves in such a way could prove problematic. Orithia raised herself up to her full height, which was still shorter than this female before her. "Alone is not a good way to travel." She pointed out, though she was certain that the female knew that. Even though the wolf told her that she was alone, Orithia kept her senses alert, it could be a lie and there could be one or more other wolves out there waiting for her to drop her guard before moving in. "As for where you are, as I said, you approach Antianeira's land. What purpose do you have coming to my packs land?" She needed to assess whether this wolf was a threat or not, at the moment she was thinking she was more of a threat than not, the way she held herself but also acted as if she were lost. Orithia could not, would not, trust this wolf. Not until she had ascertained the truth and even then she may not fully trust her, not in these new lands when so many threats were unknown to them.

Something in the way this other she-wolf looked her over was familiar. She was positive she'd never met this wolf before, but her stance and the way she assessed her stirred some memory in the back of her mind. "A pack... " That stirred something too, and her ears lowered, a less certain expression forming. Mahu still hadn't been able to remember if she'd ever been part of a pack. Though she felt that with how good of condition she was in, surely she must have been? "These lands are not familiar to me." She said, voice getting a little louder. "I've never heard of Antianeira either. I don't think." Her brows furrowed, trying to catch those little flickering shadows of memories just out of reach.

Mahu's stance shifted, relaxed a little, and seemed like she was standing down. This wolf didn't mean her harm. Not yet. She had intruded. "No, it is not. But I fear it is all I remember." Glancing over at the smaller she-wolf, Mahu cocked her head sideways to regard her. This one made her think of a leader. And if she was approaching pack lands, maybe this was one of the alphas? "I am not certain of my purpose." She said slowly, trying to determine what to tell this she-wolf and what to keep to herself. "I was trailing a group of wolves and found myself here." That was truth. And the she-wolf went silent, letting her gut decide for her if she would add anything else. "I know you do not know me. I do not know myself, to be quite honest. All I remember is a name. Whether it is truly mine or anothers, only time will tell. I call myself Mahu." She gave the other a small dip of her head before, lowering her head a bit and showing that she meant no harm.
