She had found... the real clothes. At first, she'd kind of considered that she would just feel better once she found clothes that fit her--not being able to find good clothes was distressing, but she'd thought everyone felt that way. Over the few weeks since she'd found herself in the park with Hvergelmir, she'd come to quickly realize that that wasn't so. Not everyone cared about how they looked as much as she did. There was Kaatje upstairs, who looked like a hobo sometimes and was proud of it, and then Nick downstairs who thought a Mr. Rogers sweater was appropriate date night wear. She didn't even want to get started on Finn's wardrobe; no one man should own all that plaid. It had become a real puzzle, the matter of am I broken or is the world broken. In the end, all she'd had to do was find Marlo again. He got it. He understood what she meant when she said 'style', and 'fit'. All she had to do was promise not to wear the cat sweater again--at least, not in his presence. ("I can't throw it out," she'd insisted, stubbornly. "Finn would be sad. He loves it when I wear this sweater.") Now she was going to meet someone. The brother with wings? Elzo, his name was. Arkady straightened her collar happily as she followed Marlo out of the elevator and to a key-locked door. The apartment beyond it was incomparably fancy. Beautiful, even. Except for the open bottles of beer on the counter, shirts thrown over the back of the couch... Arkady didn't even think if it might be offensive before she crossed the room and picked up one of the shirts, folding it carefully and neatly. "It's so pretty, Marlo," she said, smiling at him. "But why do you leave things everywhere?" She tapped her toes on the floor, set the neatly-folded t-shirt aside. He had left the radio on, she supposed, but she didn't mind; it was good music. "I know this song," she said. "Kaatje listens to it all the time."

Marlo had a lot of bad habits. He would leave his toothbrush on the sink. He liked to drink in the morning if he knew he was going to a meeting. His ability to not stare at women's designer shoes was one of his worse ones. Another bad habit was his desire to forcefully get those he deemed in need of aid new wardrobes. They often were those who's company he enjoyed. Arkady was one such victim of his bad restyling habit. Dressed in clothes that actually fit her and looked good- he was content with the world once more, more than happy to invite her to his place for a meeting with his life's bane. Elzo. "Not me, my brother. Please don't." He said, pulling the folded shirt from her. "I'm trying to teach him to take care of his own messes. As for the music-" He shrugged. "Elzo picks the stations. He also stole the remote for it so I don't bother to change it." Elzo-who just happened to hear him and had decided that even tho he heard a female voice, it was still perfectly acceptable to walk into the living room with nothing but his boxers on. "Oh hey, first time bringing a lady friend over Marlo. Want me to leave the place to you for a few hours? There is still wine on the rack. For her-" He was grinning, Marlo was scowling. "A spicy red for the hot red head."

Oh. Arkady reluctantly let the shirt go, glanced uncomfortably at the mess on the counter, and took a careful half-step closer to Marlo. "Okay," she said. "Finn doesn't let me use the microwave anymore. I forgot you're not supposed to put silverware in it." That had almost been a really fun day, except for the fact that Finn had been really upset and then she'd had to stay in the common area where she could be watched until he got home from work for-real for-real. "I know that now, though," she assured Marlo. "I am figuring it all--" Out, she finished in her head. The man who wandered in had white hair and no clothes on, except boxers--not that the lack thereof would have particularly fazed Arkady, as most of her memory of social norms had gone out the window along with her knowledge of the rules of microwaves and stoplights. And, you know, every other definitive memory. "I'm not going to ******** Marlo," she said, tipping her head a bit to the side. "We're friends. And Finn says I can't consent to sex anyway, because I don't have enough social context." Whatever that meant. She just knew it meant she couldn't bang her hot boyfriend like a screen door in a hurricane, and that was very personally concerning. "You're the brother with wings," she said, idly chewing at a fingernail. In case she'd missed something the first time she'd done it, she looked him over, head to toe. "I don't see any? Your abs are nice, though." She smiled, and said, "It's nice to meet you, Elzo."

"If its metal-" Marlo closed his mouth. She probably got a lecture on microwaves already from her Finn. "Never mind. I am sorry for the mess though-" Elzo laughed, picking up a stray beer, finishing it off. "He's just pissy because I ruin in perfect picture of a palace." Falling onto the couch and kicking up his feet, Elzo pat the spot next to him. "For being just a senshi, he acts more like royalty than I do." Marlo just kept his expression a mask of frustration and disapproval. "The brother with wings indeed- and I would not '********' you." He said with noticable distaste. "Sleep in the same bed and do nothing but actually sleep? Yes. But that's as far as you get." Elzo just laughed again. "My wings are hidden- a bit hard to get around indoors with them. Thanks for the compliment, but if you like abs Marlo's got some nice ones. Just need to get him drunk enough to show them off." He held out an unopened bottle to Marlo who took it only to set it down near the kitchen counter. "Stop trying to flirt with her while getting her to flirt with me. It's really pathetic, even for you." Elzo shrugged, lounging and drinking one of the not yet finished beers. "Alright- doesn't explain why you brought a girl over. Only girls you do are for your little-" The bottle he'd given his brother was then thrown back into Elzo's face. "My activities are not your concern." "I don't want my little baby brother ******** some tramp-" "Like you?" " Exactly. Why do you think I was so happy to see you bringing back a good one?" "Pervert." Elzo just grinned.

Oh, were they allowed to talk about that now? She rounded the couch and settled down next to Elzo as amiable as you please, fluffing her skirt out as regal as any queen ever crowned. "Okay," she said to Marlo, unoffended. "I don't want to ******** you either." He was pretty handsome, sure. But everyone paled in comparison to Finn. Well, okay, she'd seen a picture in a yearbook and that person was pretty hot, but she didn't know that Janice Fitzpatrick had even known her name, so... She sighed, thinking about it. "It's not polite to do things with people while they're drunk," she said, firmly. "I will only look at Marlo's abs when he is sober and fully consenting to me seeing his abs, because otherwise, I am a bad person." She had to admit, she was curious now--the only girls Marlo did were for his little what? She looked over her shoulder at his face--down to his pants--back up to his face. It didn't look small. So it wasn't that. Hm... it probably wasn't any of her business anyway. And she really didn't want to get hit with a bottle if someone decided to throw one around again. What could she talk about... birds? No. Then Marlo would think she was a child. Probably Elzo would make fun of her, too. What would distract them both?... She looked back over to Marlo and said, "Why did you say figures when I told you the white lady healed me? You didn't sound happy about it, and everyone else is." She looked back over to Elzo, realizing he didn't know the story. "I was very sick with Chaos," she explained. "It was in my heart and it made me do bad things. I tried to do something really bad, and the White Lady came down and healed me, but she had to take away all of my memories to do it." Now it was just fog, and little moments where she knew just who and what she was. "Finn says that's probably why I'm a Page and not a Knight, even though he said I was a General before. A--" and she paused, to savor this technical term she had stolen from Anabel "--a hard reset." Anyway. "Marlo said there were things I needed to know that I wasn't being told. Could you help me?"

Inside, Marlo was happy to know that Arkady was not interested. It was a just a bit awkward to think she even considered- He blushed when she looked. "I don't walk around without clothes. Unlike Elzo I have manners." Elzo who was snorting back a laugh. "Aw, Red. Looking doesn't make you a bad person. It's when you touch without asking that you become a bad person." Elzo said, reaching out towards her. It was a moment made by experience, Marlo grabbing Elzo's hand before it touched Akady's thigh. The younger brother had closed the distance in such a short time, and he did not look altogether pleased as to why he'd needed to do so. Pulling his hand back, Elzo's grin was not entirely warm. "I am not the best of people Red. Everything marlo is? I'm not." It was then that Marlo decided to take advanced measure, sitting between them and half on one of Elzo';s ******** Marl-" "..." Marlo just glared, silently subduing Elzo. "The white lady might have saved my brother's sorry a**, but she didn't prepare them for what came after. She might have been having good intentions, but she ******** up in aftermath." Elzo just downed his beer, shoving off Marlo so he could stand and get another. "So, Cosmos purified you?" Elzo cracked open a new beer, starting to down that faster than he probably should have. "No offense Red, but you sound like a ******** moron." "Elzo!" "You lost your memories to such an extent that you lack basics like the ability to give consent? As a grown woman?" He was frowning. "That's ******** up. Never heard of a hard reset before but if she's going around purifying and doing this s**t it's no wonder senshi are on the low. The balance is all ******** up if you do that. Hell she's supposed to know that" "So what I am supposed to explain? How to give informed consent?" "Elzo-" "Or space s**t." "........" Marlo gornaed and rubbed his head. "Space s**t." "That's easy enough. So tell me Red, what do you know of chaos and order?"

She rather thought it sounded like Elzo was trying too hard, and she met his gaze steadily. I am not afraid of you, she thought, ignoring the nasty grin on his face. There were worse things in the world than grabby senshi. Arkady might not remember them all, but she knew there were. "Hi Marlo," she said, when he sat between them rather unceremoniously; she threw both arms around him when Elzo shoved him into her, mostly to keep her own balance. One thing she did not like was being trapped under people, so she was going to do her utmost to avoid that. "It's kind of hit-and-miss, actually," she said, primly. "Finn doesn't believe I remember anything, but I do remember some things. Like how to say no when things are happening that I don't want to happen." She hooked her hair behind her ears, and added, "My name's Arkady, by the way. But most people call me Ash." No, they didn't. Arkady fluffed out the long straight strands of red hair from her shoulders. "Chaos is bad, Order is good, and even just a little piece of Chaos makes you bad. Order lives in your heart but it's really easy to poison if you let the Chaos in. But a princess can make the Chaos go away." She sighed and tapped the corner of her jaw. "That's about all I know. Oh! Wait. Don't make friends with people wearing lots of black or if their names end in -ite. That's all."

Marlo didn't mind Arkady touching him, something that surprised Elzo, knowing his brother's aversion to touch. "Aw, look, just like two love bir-" The sudden grab to his arm had Elzo silence, seeing Marlo's glare to shut him up about it. Surprisingly enough, Elzo backed off. For now. "Bad and Good are points of view- subjective. From a survival standpoint, Chaos is 'bad' Order is 'good'. But they both need to exist. Without one, the other runs unchecked. It just so happens that both sides want to remove the other." Elzo flicked on the TV, the sound of sports filling the room mixing with the music. It all was white noise to the siblings. "Arkady- If you recalled nothing at all I would be more annoyed than I already am." It didn't show very well. "Think of the universe like a scale. On one side are those who are lacking in chaos yet filled with the force known as Order. On the other, those filled with the force we know as Chaos. When you remove someone from Chaos and put them in Order, the scale tips- so the universe makes a new person with Chaos to fill that void. You follow?" Elzo started to channel surf while Marlo leaned back, fine with listening. "Black doesn't mean anything. Nor do names. What you should use is your gut. They feel wrong? It wont be that normal feeling. It will be something that brushes against your senses, that creeps its way past your skin. Chaos is the loss of control. It is parasitic and hungry and will feel like a predator to your sense of being prey. Who ever told you the bit about princesses.. they're wrong." He stopped on Animal Planet. It was a segment on whales. "A royal, that is a prince or princess, perhaps even a king or queen depending on what their original title was, is a senshi of great power, who's tie to their homeworld is absolute. We cannot purify alone. Who we purify must desire it, and lend us thier will and conviction. The strength they have to fight their own corruption is what keeps us alive. If we were to take on someone who rejected us we would likely die and kill whoever we had tried to purify. Cosmos probably had a hard time with you from what you're saying." Marlo finally spoke up. "Being a senshi is different from a Knight. Yet we share a common past and a common goal. The problem as stands is the lack of uniformity or understanding of the severity of what people think is an easy solution. Knights are tied to worlds and wonders yet often come from Earth. So it's possible, that with the fact that Knights naturally were inclined to be born on earth, that when Chaos invaded it intentionally targeted knights, knowing that once corrupt their ties to their wonders would too, be corrupted. Rendering the earth itself, or perhaps the other planets, more corrupt. That is speculation on our part though." Pollux looked at Arkady, curious. "Is Avalon corrupt?"

Arkady listened attentively, maintaining near-unblinking eye contact as she was wont to do when fascinated by something. She frowned when he said that he would be annoyed with her if she remembered nothing--but how could she have controlled that? She hadn't even controlled what she did remember. While she was puzzling over that, he kept talking--and she turned her attention to the tv for a moment, wide-eyed and surprised. Her hands lifted off the black skirt, just a few heartbeats, towards her ears; with visible effort, she put them back down. "I think," she said. "I..." She looked to the tv again, and took a deep breath, and tried counting to ten. It didn't help. Her stomach rolled uncomfortably, and she frowned down at her knees. "Please can we turn something off," she said, "I can't think like this." Someone was talking about whales in one ear and there was music in the other, not loud music and music she even kind of liked, but she needed to pay attention to Elzo right now, and now Marlo was talking, and she couldn't do it. How did anyone do it? She put her hands over her ears, and said, "I don't know! I haven't gone, I don't remember how, I just remember I had a sword and it glowed when I touched it and then she killed Finn and I woke up in the park! I, I don't want to go there. Bad things will happen if I go there. That's what happened before. I was so alone and scared and that'll come back if I go. Please make it be quiet!"

There was a crash of glass, then, silence; the TV was turned off along with the radio while Marlo remained fixed on Arkady. Elzo however just bent down, carefully picking up the remains of his beer bottle. "Better?" Elzo asked, glaring at the guest, mostly as his beer had been broken out of his own anger issues. Marlo's action was a stark difference to his brother, his arm wrapping around Arkady to give her something between a hug and a good pat on the shoulder. "You changed." He said, fingers gently combing through her hair. "And I no longer see the person I knew. But I have to know about who you have become." He didn't know how to assure her of things. He was bad at comfort. "Why are you afraid to go?"

She nodded, and lowered her hands slowly. Arkady tucked her head up against Marlo's shoulder, staring at Elzo with an expression that could have been copied off a sheet of emoticons, a perfect neutral . "I'm sorry," she said contritely. If he was angry... she could count her blessings in the form of just Marlo, maybe. He seemed safe. But she didn't know what to tell them--she didn't know who she had become. No one knew. And that was the problem. She had, literally, nothing--an empty starseed, an empty head. "I hear it in my head," she said, deciding to go back to the question about Avalon. She didn't know what she wanted to say for a while, a way to follow that up. Surely none of them would think it made any sense. Surely they'd doubt her. No one else lived what she had lived. And no one else saw that rolling shore in their dreams. "Avalon. It's always there. It sings, sometimes, when I sleep. About someone named Arthur, and dying, and wings. If it was corrupt, it wouldn't sing, would it?" Why didn't she want to go? She looked at Marlo, green eyes hooded with shame. "I think there's something bad there," she said, specifically. "There's a bad woman. She lives there. And she hates me so much."

Elzo kept up his angry glare for a short while, relaxing once he'd disposed of the glass and thrown a towel on the wet spot. "Elzo-" "Fine." He whined, actually beginning to clean it. "...Huh." Marlo's tone was surprised, while Elzo voiced the thoughts. "If it sings then it is reaching out to you. If it was corrupt you would sense it in how it sang I'd think." The towel stinking of beer the elder looked down at the pair. "Castor, my world, doesn't sing persay, but it speaks without words. It lets me know when the seasons change, when the tides are in and out. It lets me know things without.. saying it." "Much like how he and I can talk without words. Sibling understanding in a sense." Marlo chimed in after. "However this woman- Humans shouldn't be there, not without your permission. It's possible that while corrupt, something invaded and has yet to be purged. If your wonder is any thing like a senshi's world, then if you sense it's hate, it 'badness' then your wonder likely is seeking your help." Marlo brushed a lock of hair from her face. "You were corrupt and have lost more than your memories. To be ashamed of what you do not know is pointless. You have been through more than others, and it is not this shame that should define you but really how you handle this." Elzo grinned. "Aw, Marlo, and you said you weren't trying to seduce her? Cute." Marlo scowled as Elzo smirked. "Tell me red- are you afraid to fight?"

The boys were really young, she thought, or at least, Elzo was. She picked up her feet so that they wouldn't get into the beer, watching him carefully in case he tried to hurt her. (Arkady was surprised to note that she already knew three ways to get out of his reach before he could do anything to her; had she done that herself?) "I don't think it's corrupt," she said. "I'm not corrupt. I'm good." She smiled a little crookedly. "I'd show you, but Kaatje says to never transform inside a house. It's rude." And dangerous. But she wasn't supposed to say that to people. Apparently it would make her look scared. "It loves me," she said, and as she said the words she knew they were true, like knowledge that came to her from Before. "But it's scared of me. It wants me to wait until I'm better." But that woman, there... the one in her memories. She wanted Avalon to never come back. "I'm not scared of fighting," she said, shaking her head and promptly dislodging the lock of hair that Marlo had tucked behind her ear. "I can put Kaatje--she's Sailor Gunn--on the ground four times out of five. More if I've got a stick. Not when we're Sailor Gunn and Avalon Page, but when we're just people." She smiled, a little sharply. "I know how to fight with a sword. Really well." Like she had been born to it, really. The hilt of the wooden sword Kaatje had handed her, suspiciously, had felt like just an extension of her arm. She really wanted to get one to fight with on patrol, but no one would let her.

"Uh-huh." Was how Elzo answered her, clearly unimpressed. "look Red-" "She has a name." Marlo hissed, growing tired. "Look." Elzo said a bit firmer. "For one thing, you just shared the idetity of a senshi with us. What if Gunn was our enemy. With what you just said I could google her, and kill her. And it would be your fault." "Elzo for ******** the ******** up Marlo." Elzo's tone had snapped from casual, to curt, to firm. A second of the pair staring each other down and then the focus shifted back to Arkady. "Never speak opening of other senshi's identities. Knights either. For each person you tell, anticipate they will tell two others. Then those two tell two more- eventually it can trickle down, eventually, it can get someone killed or worse." Corrupt went unsaid. "Something lingers at your wonder and is a threat?" He hissed. "Wipe it out. Remove it and never let it back in. It wants you to wait? Wait. Don't ignore your gut. You're scared? Marlo is scared for you. You probably have no idea but he's about as physical and affectionate as a cactus. For him to bring you here, touch you willingly and offer you his own brand of piss s**t support?" "Elzo jesus-" "I know my brother Avalon. I know him better than anyone of this god forsaken rock they call earth. What doesn't scare him is how you fight- It's how easily you share your secrets. How each time you open that pretty mouth how utterly and sickeningly vulnerable you are. To fight is good and fair, but as you talk more and more I see weakness. I see cracks that our enemies will use against you. You can't think of yourself as prey. You think of yourself as a predator. You fear that woman?" Elzo grinned. "Then remove her." Marlo coughed. "Are you done Lord Dramatics?" "For now." Elzo shrugged, moving back towards the kitchen. Marlo just shook his head. "....Unfortunately he IS right." He began. "I'm worried. Very worried. You were someone I considered a friend, one whom was steadfast and resolute. For you to say you were scared- it scares me. Because that is not the same woman who would stare me down over coffee and defeat me each time in battleship with deadly precision. You are someone who is greater than you are now." He looked her dead in the eye. "I know you are not weak. And to see you weak, to see you vulnerable even if by something out of your control? I will be damned if I allow it to remain unaddressed." Elzo just came back with glasses and a bottle of whiskey. "Figure we might need it. Ask Avalon, and I'll give you what a centuries old lifetime has to offer for an answer. My war maker sees you as his friend?" He lifted his glass. "Then so will I."

Arkady listened, because what else was there to do? Her attention bounced from brother to brother, ping-pong, as they spoke, until she was pressing her hands at her temples again. As Elzo talked, a knowing assailed her. She had known all of these things once. Once upon a time, she had been as scared and suspicious as either of the two men in front of her, and with every word he said she remembered more of that time. A little more fear scratched away at her self-certainty, but with it came other memories. The sky, stars clouded over, rain in her eyes. Why was that important? Why had that ever been important? "I don't remember her," she said. "The other woman. Tate." But she remembered a little more now, and it was evident in the way she carried herself, in the straighter balance of her shoulders. The perennially interested light had gone out of her eyes. A little deader, a little calmer. "Thank you," she said. "I'll try to live up to your expectations." Elzo re-entered, and she smiled at him, small and a little bit strained. "I'll tell you what I know, but it's not much," she said. "Comes with being scraped out like a gourd."
