Zia didn't have a lot of time for fishing these days. She'd gone out three or four times in the end of summer/beginning of fall expanse of time to flash massive cat-girl aura and home someone for her index or with any information on on mirrorseeds appeared, but none of those times had yielded any real results.
And then the semester started, and she only got worse about ignoring the magical mysteries of the universe.
It didn't mean she wasn't restless about the amount of time she had gone without cataloging a new knight or even a new Negaverser, but it did mean that tonight was a complete accident born of late night cheeseburger cravings and a glimpse of red and gold in the distance.
She had honestly started associating the Mars knight motif with her roommate, who had so far been the only one she had been allowed to see up close, so she didn't think much about playing catch up with who she saw. But she didn't think much after it had become obvious this boy wasn't Kairatos either.
He looked about her age-- or at least the age she physically appeared to be-- and he seemed amiable enough. Order factions were usually her first choice when it came to interaction since they had nothing to gain from killing her and tonight she was pretending to be a civilian anyway. Knights were there to serve and protect, right?
She casually sidled right up to him like they were totally friends. "So are all Mars knights required to grow out their hair into fashionable ponytails or is it just a trend I'm missing?" She quipped between stuffing her face with fast food and shifting the paper bag full of fried junk from one hand to the other.

Glitnir enjoyed not being quite so supervised in his dorm; it meant he could slip out and patrol more often than when he was at home. It was something he had only recently realized, of course, having just been awakened over the summer, but it was helpful. He had just been ambling aimlessly about the city (he didn't have an established patrol path yet) when Zia caught him by surprise and made him jolt. He gave her a funny look and muttered an utterly baffled "Wha...?" as he tried to figure out what had just happened. He felt no aura from this woman. She was either a civilian or a powered individual who hadn't powered up. Either way, it struck him as very, very weird that someone unpowered would just saunter right up to him and namedrop the Mars Knights. "Uh, well, I've just always been particular about my hair, so..." he said with a chuckle, trailing off as he tried to get his focus back. "Who are you and how do you know what a Mars Knight is?"

Zia fished her hand out of the baggy sweater sleeve she had started throwing on with the impending fall night to reach up and invasively pet his hair. "It is very nice!"
Cats had no sense of personal space, even when they were masquerading as a human civilian.
That same hand ended up being held out to him, covering a handshake in greeting. The other hand was still preoccupied with a cheep cheeseburger and the fast food bag at once. "I'm Zia! And I'd hope I'd know what a Mars knight is considering one is hogging my guest room."
A cheesy, cheeky grin followed the snide not-answer before she shrugged and answered for real. "I'm a guardian. But I don't power up for snack runs!"

Glitnir didn't pull away when Zia petted his hair. He was used to people being curious about his hair, actually, and he didn't mind when people wanted to touch it. He took good care of it, anyway. "Ahaha, thanks," he said, rubbing the back of his head as a nervous tic. "You should see it when it's down. I get lots of looks when I leave it down." He accepted her handshake with his free hand. "Nice to meet you, Zia. You have a Mars Knight for a roommate? And you know his code name and his real name and everything? I should tell you my code name: Glitnir, Page of Mars." He concluded that the two must be really good friends if her roommate told her everything. "A guardian? Of what...? I though guardians were cats." Right there was Glitnir's inexperience showing.

"I knew his name before he had his name," Zia joked and grinned a toothy smile as she bragged about her attachment to Kairatos. He was her friend before he purified and she may have been a little boastful that he had come over to the order side of things.
She took his lack of objection to keep fawning over his appearance with light touches and pets.
"I am a cat," She said, taking a step back and powering up to cat-girl form, trading in her ripped jeans for the flowing dress and overlay and unleashing the powerful parallel aura.
Fluffy ears swiveled on her head, listening for signs of unwanted company, but she seemed satisfied and dug around in her fast food bag for fries casually. "And it's nice to meet you, Glitnir. Another Norse name. I'll have to look that up."
She glanced him up and down and stopped stuffing her face for a hot second before holding out the paper bag as an offering, "Oh. Sorry. Want some?"

Glitnir nodded attentively at Zia's mention of her relationship to her Knight roommate. "How long has he been a Knight?" If he had been a Knight for a while and Zia knew him before he awakened, then the two must have quite some past, he decided. When Zia powered up, he gaped for a good moment at the transformation, and also at the bizarre aura she was putting off. He had no idea what it was at all. "I... see. Um, you know, there's something weird... I guess I'll just come out and say it. What's with your aura?" He was so distracted he didn't even heed the offer of fries.

"He purified and defected from the Negaverse on New Years," Zia announced with a beaming smile and pride in her voice.
She just kind of shrugged at the aura question. "It is such a long story, bro. You have no idea and it's full of advanced concepts like parallel universes and dual starseeds and a lot, I mean a lot of weird mirror bullshit."
She pulled her bag of junkfood back close to her chest and powered back down to being a normal civilian girl effortlessly in the process.
"Like once upon a time a freaky moon queen from a parallel universe where the moon is black and everything is magical and creepy said 'hey, help me out,' and I was like 'Yeah sure' and then I got soul bound to a guardian cat starseed and boom, I'ma cat-girl that doesn't do any cat things but I can walk through mirrors and junk. But I don't want to talk about me," She gave him a cheesy grin in an attempt to be friendly that may have been coming on too strong. By a lot. And she moved closer, borderline invading his space even further.
"But let's not talk about me, let's talk about you. Like what your weapon is and how you awakened."

Now that was something (else) that Glitnir didn't expect. He should have, really; defections of some sort were bound to happen in conflicts like this. "He was a Negaverse officer? And he became a Knight? How does that work? But yeah, good for him! New Years, huh... was he ready to celebrate after he became a Knight?" That would really be something. Join a different cause, then uncork some champagne to celebrate the whole ordeal. He was probably romanticizing it. Then Zia proceeded to completely baffle Glitnir's brain to the point of short circuiting. " What?" He got thrown off even further by the no-longer-a-cat-lady advancing directly into his personal space bubble (though she had kind of already been in it to begin with, what with touching his hair and all that). "Uh, okay. My weapon, as you can see here, is a set of scales. It's kind of fitting, I think, because my wonder is a courthouse on Mars. Scales of justice, you know?" He raised his scales to show them off, then lowered them. "And how I awakened... well, one night I got chased through town by this huge monster. It was pretty close to having me for dinner when this other guy appeared and started fighting it. He had a white outfit with black fur on it and a cape, and he had goggles too... well, more like a visor or something. Anyway, while he was beating the thing down, my scales appeared not too far away. He told me to grab them, and when I did... surprise, I changed into this getup. I worked with the guy to defeat the monster, and when it finally turned to dust, he introduced himself as Babylon. He gave me a bunch of useful information about being a Knight and sent me a written tutorial of sorts the next day." That felt like an accurate summation, he decided.

"It works like... well. Basically Negaverse officers appear to be corrupted knights," Zia stumbled to explain. "If you find a princess, they can purify the Chaos from the starseed. Bam, Nega becomes a knight, like they should have been all along."
She nodded in regards to the scales and made a few little notes on her phone about both the weapon and the information about his wonder. "That sounds really cool! So you've been? I'd like to see it sometime. When you go do you see anything? Like memories? Or a ghost?"
She made more notes as he told her about his awakening and then nodded with a ton of enthusiasm. "Babylon is really great with that stuff! I'm really proud of him. I don't think I've seen a tutorial but that's a pretty neat idea." She pulled up her file of photos taken of her documented and claimed knights and held it up, beaming with pride again, "He's one of my favorites, he's a really good knight. You should definitely listen to him!"

"A princess? That's a rank of senshi, right?" Babylon's tutorial had been mostly focused on the ins and outs of Knighthood, and while senshi had been mentioned, they hadn't been gone into quite as in-depth. "Corrupted knights, huh... that's kind of weird how, if they're corrupted knights, we treat them like they're a completely different class." Though the sentiment appeared sympathetic, Glitnir was aware that corruption was still corruption, and even if they were knights under all that black, they were still a danger until they did something to prove themselves otherwise. Granted, he wouldn't attack a Negaverse officer that didn't seem outwardly hostile or dangerous, but he would keep his guard up. "Yeah, that's right! I've been to my wonder already, and there is a ghost. I met my ancestor, Cornelius, up there. He's a real card. Introduced himself by pulling my hair, nearly made me search the entire basement archives for my signet ring, told me he was going to throw a book at me if I took too long... but he's not a bad guy. Just kind of a troll, I guess." Something Zia had said caught Glitnir's attention. "You can bring more than just yourself to your wonder? Huh, cool. Maybe I will take you up there next time I see you if I can, then." Glitnir looked at Zia's file and nodded. "Yep, Babylon wrote me a neat tutorial about being a Knight. I'm thinking that, if I meet any other pages who are just starting out, I might make some copies and forward it to them. Or just hand them physical copies if I can, though I don't have any pockets to shove the papers in."

"Oh, yeah, the mega highest rank. But they aren't the only ones who can hit it. There's this thing called a royal knight," She lifted her hands to fully flail and describe the 'bigness'.
"They have this crystal sword that turns a Negaverse officer into a knight when they uh... when they..." Her arms dropped and her brow knitted down. "You know, knight them with it. Huh."
And then she shrugged it off. "Well anyway, that's how that happens."
Back to less fantastical stuff. "Knights are a more recent power that started just popping up a few years ago. Until then, no one really knew you could purify a Negaverse officer. You guys are a huge discovery and a universal anomaly. That's why I started indexing you. And then expanded my criteria to Negaverse officers when I realized you guys were just two sides of the same coin. It's really unfortunate Chaos awakened so many before they knew what they were."
She very obviously lit up when he not only knew his ancestor, but agreed to take her up there sometime. "Perfect," She grinned, adding to her notes. "My brother has a ghost haunting his wonder too. I think she's technically our ancestor on account of he's my brother and we kind of like... share relatives and all. But I can't see her. I heard she's a little off too. Maybe it comes from being dead all those years?"

"I think I get it. Royal Knights are a Princess equivalent then?" They shared the ability to purify, and that seemed to be a solid enough criteria for equivalence. What came next was another confusing element for Glitnir. "A recent power? A universal anomaly? What's so weird about being a Knight that we're anomalies?" He wasn't intending to be critical, but the word choice called to mind Knights as some bizarre universal programming glitch that just so happened to be beneficial for Order. He nodded when Zia mentioned the ghost on her brother's wonder. "Another descended Knight, huh? Is there any reason why you can't see her? And yeah, I'd imagine being dead for a thousand years would screw you up a bit. Cornelius was surprised to hear what the year on Earth was."

"Well... they're not..." Zia gave a guilty grin and hid behind what was now an empty fast food wrapper. "They don't exist beyond the mirror. They're totally new to me, and they weren't here when I fist awakened. I remember when like, a wave of them happened and this boy I grew up with awakened and I was just totally baffled it was... it's not something I was used to!"
The question of why she couldn't see the ancestor in her knightly heritage made her deflate just a bit as she considered the many reasons and theories she had thought of herself.
"I don't know... You're not the first person to think it's weird," She admitted with a small shrug. "Sometimes I wonder if there's something wrong with me."
Her eyes wee downcast and her expression was joyless as she considered all of her worries about the state of her fractured starseed, a side effect of having a merged soul, and what that meant for how the universe considered her existence.
"Anyway. The point is, knights are important to me," She concluded with a firm nod. "For magic, lineage, whatever."

"Beyond the mirror... you mean in that other world, right?" Glitnir still didn't really grasp the full magnitude of the meaning of a parallel universe. Maybe it was just beyond his ken. When Zia frowned, he did so too. "I'm sorry," he said, really unsure of how else he could reassure her. It wasn't like he had any evidence to say you're fine, your not seeing your/your brother's ancestor is just a weird fluke. Besides, there were a great many things that he didn't know about her. He decided to change the topic in hopes of maybe cheering her up a bit. "How many other Knights have you met so far? It sounds like you've met a lot."

"Yeah," She said with a quick nod, "In the parallel universe where the moon is black."
"Oh, I don't know... my index has about forty people in it now," She said with a nod. She dug around in her pants pocket and produced a crumpled business card with the office number scratched out and some little notes written over it.
"But if you need any help with the knight stuff or if you're ever going to make good on taking me to your wonder, please give me a call!"
