Elane is not a skinny woman - she’s far closer to the Pernese ideal of beauty, with a rubenesque figure and chunky arms and legs. She has thick black hair which she takes great pains to style properly, and dark skin with large brown eyes that sit perfectly in her round face. She’s physically very attractive - though it’s largely charisma and overwhelming self-confidence that make her so.

Personality:

Elane is… well, difficult is a good word for her. Let’s use that. She’s shallow, materialistic, and egotistical. However, she does have an iron will and an absolutely indestructible smile. She knows who she is, and she knows what she is (putting it nicely, a bit of a b***h)... and she's alright with that. Self-confidence is absolutely her deal, and it's difficult to shake her or to upset her with insults: she's always got a snappy comeback, and putting her down? Well, you can try... It's also notable that Everything Is About Elane - and that Elane and Pellinorth always come first. She seems to truly think that the universe spins around her, something that's happily unshakeable.

She has a need to be loved - or rather, to be adored. If the focus of attention isn’t on her, then the focus of attention is in the wrong place. Elane has a love for dramatics and drama, and will always involve herself in the latest gossip and intrigue - even if she wasn’t originally involved, you can bet she will be soon, if only to egg on one participant or another.

To be frank, Elane isn’t that bright either. Although she’s smarter then she thinks she is, she’s not particularly intellectual - in fact, she can barely read and write, and enjoying books is not her thing. She does, however, have a talent for poetry (which had it been encouraged, might have seen her an excellent harper), and can be relied upon to have an appropriate verse or quotation at any given moment. She is also overwhelmingly practical: whatever needs to be done, she can do it - and she will do it. She might b***h along the way, but it's going to be done, shardit.

She is generous with what she has - it’s the acquiring and the giving of it, not the having that matters - though this is usually in the pursuit of other goodies, affection, or attention. She has a tendency to judge based on appearances rather then any internal qualities, though at least she doesn't cling to that first impression forever. She has an impulsive streak, and it’s rare for her to think anything through before doing it (which may be for the best, considering her track record with making actual plans). She’s also rather charming in person: she’s extremely good at listening to people, which tends to be what they want.

History:

Born in Benden Hold, Elane was brought up by her aunt and uncle after her parents death in a bread riot. Brought into their larger family at the age of seven, she was more taken on through a sense of duty then any genuine affection - which was something she was raised almost entirely without. It was not that they were entirely bad people: more busy ones, with only so much affection and attention to dole out between their own children. She took what she could get... and worked out how to get more.

She was nineteen when her uncle’s business engagements brought him into contact with the Lord Holder - and subsequently, brought her into contact with him. It didn’t take long before she had become his mistress, and not much more time before she had moved into one of the hold’s staterooms. This was something she was definitely encouraged in by her uncle, who saw it as a useful connection that didn’t cost him anything - and a way to pay back all the marks he’d spent on her upbringing and education over the turns. The Lady of the Hold was… well, not happy, but she tolerated Elane’s presence as keeping her husband out of her hair.

This is how, two turns later, she happened to be in Benden Weyr’s stands during a hatching. With thread - presumably - inbound relatively soon, the Lord was looking to create closer ties. What he was not expecting was for a bronze dragonet to - in a rather impressive feat of agility - clamber up over almost every layer of the stands in order to proclaim his love for Elane. Elane herself was delighted and… well, understandably buoyed up. She was loved and she would always be loved.

It took a while for her to realise the consequences of her new darling’s choice - that her old life was over was undeniable. Elane struggled through weyrlinghood, graduating by the skin of her teeth, and found that she had… well, nothing. Thread was on its way, and she was one of the most junior and unwanted members of the Weyr, far from her pampered life before she Impressed. Though she wasn’t exactly lonely - she’s always been good at making friends - she was more then a little miserable. She also found herself at somewhat of a loose end with no hope of advancement, something that was only really alleviated by running messages and Pellinorth’s endless quests and good works.

She was at the High Table the day of the massacre, having stopped to talk to one of the Wingleaders (and having ended up pulled onto his knee in a fit of giggles), and was there when it started. How she got out, she doesn’t remember - the trauma, the adrenaline, and the jump itself seem to have largely wiped her mind clear of the incident itself. She did sustain a very nasty gash across her side, and she knows her hands and arms were cut up as if they were defensive wounds, but… but she simply doesn’t remember.

Pellinorth

Name: Pellinorth
Age: Two
Colour: Bronze
Feel of voice: Sword striking on shield, pride in you, arms holding you tight.
Appearance:

At about 26 feet long and 7 foot at the shoulder, Pellinorth is on the smaller end of the spectrum for bronzes of his day... and in the present day, looks tiny. He is thick-set and sturdy, with a broad chest and small narrow wings. He is a pale greeny bronze, with dark 'socks' around his paws.

Personality:

Pellinorth is - overwhelmingly - a kind creature, soft and gentle. He's the sort of dragon who's waiting for you at the end of a bad business with half a wherry, and if you don't want to talk? That's alright. He's just going to snuggle with you, if you're okay with that. There isn't a mean bone in his body, and he never seems to run out of love or affection or attention - and considering how much he seems to pour into his rider's bottomlessly needy pit, that's probably a good thing. He's rather thoughtful, and it's rare that he hasn't thought of a time a friend might be sad or upset and moved to do something about it. He suffers from chronic hero syndrome, and is determined to be everyone's hero and fix all the problems of the world... something that doesn't seem to leave much time for rest.

He does, however, have a bad habit of Projects and Quests. That can be anything from an attempt to usefully improve the Weyr's water supply to a concerted effort to boost a fellow dragon's self-esteem. These can and frequently do go terribly wrong, especially considering his very earnest desire to help. Well, yes, he did manage to wreck those pipes... but isn't the waterfall pretty? Ah heh? Though he always has good intentions, that doesn't necessarily map to a good outcome. He suffers from frequent poor judgement, and a tendency to leap before he looks - failing to assess a problem before he tackles it is not at all unusual. It's a rare sevenday when Elane doesn't have to pull her dragon out of some mess of his own creation, usually created through a series of misadventures that would be comedic... if you weren't involved.

The matching of an alpha b***h with a dragon who's essentially a bumbling sweetheart might seem confusing at first - indeed, it frustrated Elane's Weyrlingmaster just as much as Pellinorth's colour - but it's a simple trade off: Elane needed someone who loved her absolutely, and who was kind to her... and Pellinorth needed someone who could organise his life and prevent people from using his good nature.
