Text to Shiloh Parish:

Please report to Room 105B at 8AM tomorrow for a mission. Please refrain from wearing your hunter coat, and bring only one runic weapon if you so choose. Do not wear anything specific, as you will be changing upon arrival.

Upon reaching room 105B, they would find that most of the desks had been pushed aside, against the walls, in favor of a large table that sat in the middle of the room. Spread out across this table are an assortment of various items of clothing, most of which are in muted, dull colors: browns, reds, a few black items, some very dark green. All of them are carefully constructed wraps, headscarves, tunics, pants, and other various things, loose and easy to move around in. There are multicolored beaded pieces of jewelry, several pieces made out of bones or thick ropes or leather, and on one part of the table there are a few crude weapons made out of stone.

Gale stands next to the table, hair pulled back, already dressed, though it's clear that the faction he leans more towards is War, rather than Famine. There is dark red paint streaked across his face, and the blackened burn marks that start from his palm and spread all the way up to his left shoulder are clearly visible beneath the loosely tied bandages. When you arrive, he looks up, gesturing towards the table.

"We're infiltrating a War lair first," he says. "As I've discussed prior, we can't use the Horsemen golems yet - " He seems to reel in his irritation at this slight. " - therefore it's important to blend in as neatly and seamlessly as possible. We have to be convincing, otherwise we'll be outed in a second and then we'll be in trouble."

Gale struggles for a moment, clearly trying to accomplish some inner thought, and then says, in a voice obviously meant to sound American (though it's slightly garbled, and rough, and there are still faint traces of his English accent filtering through), "We have to be exceptionally careful, as this is a dangerous mission. Bring no identifying things with you, and leave as much as you can behind, with the exception of weapons."

He waves a hand at the table. "If you're still interested, then go ahead and get ready, and we'll leave when everyone is properly dressed."

HELLO EVERYONE
OOC: If you are still interested in participating, please just reply to this thread! If you are no longer interested, feel free to PM me and I'll go ahead and take you out!

They will be infiltrating a War Clan lair, and as such should be dressed accordingly! Here is a reference sheet for the War Clan to give you some idea of how they look!

Ever since the division meeting, Shu was thinking what she should do. As intermediate hunter, she was granted more power and responsibilities. Contribution - something she never actively consider about and she started questioned herself.

So the message from Gale for a mission call might be a good beginning, regarding the constant nightmares, 8AM was too early for the girl. In a set of casual wear, Shu appeared at room 105B. Gale was already there, wearing some exotic clothing. From his briefing, it suggested that they were going to disguise as war horsemen, dressing-up surely was a piece of cake for a cosplayer lover, but she was a bit worried about her English. As she knew, her English was good but didn't sound like a native speaker at all.

Finally she got some time to look around, besides Gale, two out of three were familiar faces. Jordan sensei and the boy with strawberry hair. She smiled sweetly at them as a greeting before she moved closer to the table. "I am interested." She raised and waved her hand, then she buried herself into the piles of garments and accessories, pulling a dark red fabric on left and a brown wrap on right, pondered a moment with a frown and shoved them back. Shu occasionally murmured things like "Nope." or "This doesn't sound right." as she continued to pick more items to hang on her arm.

"That should be good." The Asian took a look of what she had grabbed after a while: a long braid matching the color of her hair, a vest like top, several wraps of different colors and lengths, a pair of sandals and arm wrap, some jewelry and feather headpieces and so on.

Jordan was the closest person she knew, so she approached him with a curious smile, "Jordan sensei, what have you picked?" She showed the Sun hunter what she had picked, believing he would give some good suggestions based on his experiences. "Do I need to add or subtract something? Should I get some face paints too?" It was like an art student asking her teacher opinion on her work, before she moved onto the next step.

War, not Famine, and Jordan was relieved and sullenly angry at himself for being relieved. The spiraling scar on his ankle was the only visible mark of his other encounters with Horsemen; the other scars weren't physical. He would move past his fears, because letting them paralyze him would kill him, sooner or later, and if that was going to happen, better it be sooner than later.

He remembered the pure, clear, cool fixity of purpose he'd felt so briefly atop the tower, the certainty that he was right and he deserved to be right, and he drew that memory into place around him like a cloak, his face settling into haughty lines that looked more natural on him than perhaps they should. He moved around the table, selecting costume pieces: a pair of loose pants, a sleeveless tunic that would cover the too-distinctive scar on his chest, a beaded belt, wraps for his wrists and ankles, all in shades of red and brown and black, and changed into the outfit without any particular concern for who might be observing him.

As he removed his earring and tied a beaded feather into his hair behind his ear, Shu asked him a question; he looked up, and for half a moment, his stare was cold and fierce. Then the mask slipped, or was put away, and he smiled at the girl with more of his usual warmth. "Looks like good choices to me," he said. "War horsemen don't wear much, but wear something that you won't feel embarrassed about wearing. It'll be important to look proud of yourself, and if you're worried about your clothes that'll be harder."

He considered the question. "Yeah, get some paint," he decided. "Using face paint will help make you less recognizable. I'll get some too."

"Hmm, looks proud and confident, I can do that!" She wasn't telling lies, the cosplay experiences made her quite comfortable to be another person. "I am quite confident of my body besides - here." The hands were occupied with stuff, so the girl only can look down at her chest which was rather flat. "Well, I can hope that the war clan ladies don't all have good body figures, right?"

Shu smiled to hide her worries and distracted Jordan's attention from the awkward topic. "I can pretend someone else quite well, wanna see?" Just as soon as she asked the question, her eyes were closed. A pair of fierce, cold but confident eyes replaced that of the innocent cheerful eyes smiling but not it didn't reach the eyes. "Approximately like that?" The face turned within a blink with the warm smile gradually re-appeared. "I'm still worried about one thing, I heard that war horsemen all have wings like bird of prey. How are we gonna make excuse on that? Do they hide them up normally?" Shu moved on to pick a color suitable for her horseman look from the face paints available. "And weapon, they use dagger?" She gave Jordan a look.

"My experience with golems suggests that you'll be better off for it, since most of this clothing isn't very - er - supportive," Jordan said dryly. He'd always found that particular aspect of having a female body disconcerting and awkward, on the occasions that it had happened.

At the demonstration of her acting skills, his eyebrows jumped. Then he smiled. "Yeah, that's great. I didn't know you could act so well -- guess I should have figured, since you got tapped for this mission." He moved over to pick up an object out of the folded pile of his clothes, and showed her a long dagger in a handmade leather sheath. "I usually use runics when I need knives, but I thought that might be unwise for this, so I prepared an alternate option." He tied the sheath to his belt, frowning thoughtfully. "I don't know about the wings. Gale might have an explanation ready."

"So they become an advantage for one time, aha, good!" She puffed out her chest with confidence. "I think males like melons generally, I am wrong?" She gestured the arch-up dome shapes in front of her flat natural washboard, coming with a curious head tilt.

The compliments from Jordan made her smiled, "I am not very great but at least observation is one of my few merits, it's good to enjoy someone's life sometimes." Shu played with the items idly, seemed to be thinking something. "Runics? Runic weapon you mean? Ohhh dagger should be good enough for self-protection, when the horseman couldn't make AoE damages." She stared at the dagger and pondered, she - didn't bring anything besides Z, which was in his totem form.

"The experienced Death hunter senpai should be able to give us an answer, yes! Also, I think we need a temporary new name for the mission, in case we encountered horsemen that knew any of us....I did meet with one in the Class A mission, he was riding a crab thing - oosp, too far away, sorry." She had her tongue stuck out.

"A lot of guys do, sure, but there's others who prefer, uh, smaller," and Jordan hoped he wasn't blushing, because this was not exactly a conversation he'd been expecting to have, and particularly not with Shu. At least Mimsy probably wouldn't kill him for it, if she heard about it later.

"Observation's the key to good acting," he agreed, and nodded to her comment about daggers. "I won't be able to summon without ruining my disguise, so I needed something else," he explained. "And I didn't care to risk finding out whether horsemen will recognize barrier daggers as Hunter equipment. So an unenhanced knife will have to do." He patted the knife's sheath.

He nodded. "We'll need names, yeah. I'm sure that'll be part of the briefing before we get going." A moment's pause. "There are a few horsemen who might recognize me, but we shouldn't be encountering any in War. It's part of the risk."

Shiloh showed up as he was told, in nothing specific. The direction had him curious, and he listened with rapt attention as Gale explained. He hadn’t had much experience with the horsemen, and as reading about them was no comparison to field study, he was excited to partake. In a way it pertained to his missions, and he was sure learning more could only help. It also helped, of course, Gale was leading it, and was someone from whom Shiloh was sure he could learn much.

He nodded a hello at Jordan, who was a full hunter too and though they stood on slightly rocky footing, it didn’t change Shiloh’s opinion of the man and that was that he was far more capable of he was, especially when it came to protecting not only the people he loved but everyone else as well. Shu was there too, and Shiloh waved at her, a smile on his face. She was cute and friendly and though he didn’t know her well, he looked forward to working with her. He especially liked her shirt.

“Definitely interested,” Shiloh agreed with the other two, taking stock of the table in front of them.

The items weren’t particularly covering, and as Shiloh sorted through them he frowned. He wasn’t exactly vain but he rarely showed his chest off to anyone, not even Ian. It wasn’t as ugly as it had been anymore, but he was still conscious of every mark, could see each one and he was sure everyone else would too. Then there was the issue of a certain mark on his arm – but then, Gale would know about that. Still, as he hastily gathered up a pile of things and went to change, he made sure to have some fabric to tie over it.

When he came out, it was wearing considerably less than when he started.

“What do you guys think? Horseman material?”

Gale was standing with his usual clipboard, double and triple checking that he'd gotten everything right, and that he'd made the proper arrangements for things to be in place. It wasn't so much running a mission solo, without the aid of any of the other higher ups, that made him tense, but rather the content of the mission. Any exposure, any mistake, and he'd endanger the lives of everyone there.

Everything had to be very, very careful.

Shu was the first to arrive, and the first to start getting dressed, followed by Jordan and then Shiloh and finally Ripley, whom Gale didn't know very well, but who seemed capable enough. At the very least, it was a nice group of intelligent hunters and trainees, all of whom Gale knew were reliable. He let them all figure out their clothing (Jordan and Shu's conversation made him flush a deep red, Gale turning decidedly away from the pair of them and hastily making a few notes on his clipboard).

His eyes flickered towards Shiloh and Gale gave a small nod of approval. "Looks good; you're pretty convincing to me," he said (still struggling with the forced American accent; maybe if he kept trying it would sound more natural), and then, overhearing Shu's question, frowned slightly in thought.

"Not all War Horsemen have wings; I did a little research, and while the majority of them do, there are certain clans that don't. Our cover is that we are a wandering splinter group trying to figure out where we stand in regards to Medea's plans. We have to seem neutral at first; if we lean too far to one side, we could easily lose their trust, so we have to act as though we have been separated for quite some time from the main groups. It's not unheard of, especially with the destruction of the Isles last year."

Jordan returned Shiloh's nod politely; they weren't exactly friends, but they weren't enemies, either, and he respected the younger man's abilities. "Looks all right to me," he answered, when Shiloh had gotten into his chosen costume. Shiloh looked great, actually, but he kept the observation to himself.

He went quiet to listen to Gale as the Death hunter spoke up again, nodding thoughtfully to the cover story. "We don't trust them much either, then," he said, thinking aloud. "We have no idea what they want or who they're loyal to; it would be suspicious to be too friendly." Some of the cold edge crept back into his tone as he considered the perspective of the horseman he would be masquerading as. "We've been on our own, so we're insular, wary, as much in need of persuasion to trust as they will be." He looked to Gale, raised his eyebrows inquiringly.

Ripley hadn't arrived on time; he was the last to show, partially because he couldn't find the place. He was feeling off today, and his usual impeccible sense of direction completely and utterly failed him. As instructed he had left his coat behind and wore something he didn't mind getting left behind.

When he finally did arrive, he listened quietly to the conversation and instructions, and set out to dress himself in a War-like fashion, waking care to cover the scars that a Horseman had left on him, in the off chance that they ran into each other and she recognized him. But as he dressed and listened, he often found himself distracted, perhaps trying to place where his unease was coming from.

It took him a while to realize that he was hesitant because of that Horsewoman. She was from War. She knew what he looked like, because she nearly destroyed him. Damnit.

"So, basically, be stray cats." Ripley observed, finally joining the conversation but feeling a little stupid over the analogy. It felt fitting nonetheless, at least to him. Plus, he had spent time as one before, so he supposed it fit more than that. "Hesitant, suspicious, but looking for home?" He suggested, if only to help himself get into the mind set.

"I don't suppose Horsemen wear glasses, do they?" So far, he was still wearing his, which was pretty identifiable...or so he felt.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 15, 2014 10:03 am

Jordan's words always did the magic, she felt a bit less upset of her - tea cup size. "Thank you, Jordan Sensei." Shu smiled. "Hmm, horsemen, the one I saw in the tower class A mission seemed intelligent. The normal dagger won't be as powerful as the barrier dagger, but it should be much safer..." The girl put her hand near her mouth, imagining possible things would happen in the war clan territory. "I don't know the horseman nature well enough, but if their characters are similar to us - then there might be chances other clans like Famine or Death would visit the war region?" She raised her point of view.

The boy asked for opinion on his outlook drew Shu's attention for a while, she nodded in praise with a thumb up. "Hmm! I love the mix-and-match, the feather accessories is my favourite part, totally looks like a war horseman."

Attention was then given to Gale who approached with his clipboard, what he said made her less worried. "Ohhhhh I don't know that!" Shu was surprised to find out not all of the horsemen have wings, "Is that like natural selection? Like dragon and wyverns?" The Asian just had too many things she wanted to know. Then, her eyes rolled back and forth between Gale and Jordan, absorbing what the two hunters wanted to point out.

The topic of glasses made the petite girl's invisible ears pricked up, she turned and saw the young guy with good looking glasses. Ohhhhhhh she knew the answer of that! Let her answer thatttt! "Good morning mister, I think we (Shu pointed to both of them) are gonna use the contact lenses. I don't think any horsemen wear glasses, maybe other clan, but not War." She giggled, pulling the wrap around her neck, the long rope hair-like braid wiggled behind as she moved her head obliviously.

Okay, she was still the shortest among them and apparently the only girl. Sighing, she hoped her height wasn't weird, she couldn't wear high platform this time.

Shiloh nodded.

"Makes sense, if we're returning and everything is suddenly upside on its head, it would make sense to be wary." He wasn't particularly good at wary, or any emotion that involved frowning a lot but the way Gale and Jordan explained it made sense, and when it came to missions he was nothing if not all business. "Stray cats... I like it."

Mostly business.

He settled into place next to Shu after a small wave to Ripley, smiling as she giggled.

"Do you have contacts?" he asked Ripley, agreeing that it probably wasn't likely there were many horsemen wandering around with poor eyesight.

Jordan was, as ever, very level-headed, which Gale appreciated. "Right," he said, with a small nod. "That wary approach is crucial to getting through this mission intact. We've stuck to our own group for so long that we're not certain about any other groups."

Ripley was also given a nod, Gale lifting his hand to absently fiddle with the ropes and beads threaded throughout his hair. "Stray cats is pretty accurate," he told him, pulling out a leaf and letting it drop to the floor. "As for glasses...well, I don't actually think so. Do you have contacts," he asked, echoing Shiloh's question. "If you have contacts, those would be useful, we have some colored ones here, but they're not prescription. If you don't, well...I guess you could say they were a trophy from a human you killed, and you took them to show off."

It was a tiny bit of a stretch, but maybe it would work anyway.

"I assume natural selection," Gale said to Shu. "Or based on what clans you come from. We're going to have to be careful, but I think if we play our cards right, we could get in and out without too much difficulty."

He slung a bag over his shoulder and took a breath.

"Everyone ready to go?"

Shu couldn't help but giggled at Gale's excuse for the source of the glasses, I grabbed this from humans, isn't that cool on me? A matchstick with a pair of glasses, the only distinguishable item on him formed in her mind, saying that with a funny cartoon-ish voice. It made her giggled more. "No, Gales. I'm afraid that won't work, it will only draws more attention on us. Besides, as a group of proud creatures, the one with weaknesses would be eliminated already?" She covered her mouth but the laughter was unable to be covered, tried to convince Gale to give up that idea.

"I do think this Mister should have contacts, because after the suddenly all-glasses-broken incident, I started to prepare contacts in case it happened again." Shu's eyes shifted to Ripley while she talked, with slight uncertainty. Normally a hunter would be alert if something happened, given they are always in danger. However, if he didn't prepare, then - well - it might be a bit inconvenient.

Shu saluted at Gale after he answered her question, "I will try my best." The word "stray cat" opened a door leaded to the dark past in her heart but there was no cue on her face.

Adjusting the braids and ponytail, making sure everything was in position, including the face paints, the girl cheerfully announced that she was ready. "I am good to go!" Then looked at the rest, beaming, waiting for their answers.
