Torcha was carried back by the warriors arguing all the way, ending her day outside of the camp. One of them mentioned the tribe’s smith having something for her that they’d gotten as an apology. So she wandered over to him. She heard him bellow for his apprentice, but the apprentice seemed to have vanished for the moment. Torcha wandered in and was greeted by “YARIS-...oh hey Torch, sorry about that, thought you were my apprentice. Some of the lads got together to get you something that I’d made it awhile back, I sent my apprentice off to get it, but he seems to have gotten lost. hmmmm, you are a little small but maybe you’d like to help this old man out? I need to finish this order today and my apprentice is taking forever with returning. So would you pump the bellows and maybe you’ll learn something about smithing. I’ll also toss in a reward” Never loath for free stuff and learning, Torcha was quite happy to agree. She spent the rest off the afternoon working as a smith’s apprentice.

First she had to pump the bellows. After that he had her watch him as he smelted some iron and then beat it into a sword. Then he handed it to her and said “I need to to prepare the iron for m, keep the fires hot and take the swords back to my brother to get sharpened. Can you do that, Torch? Can you help this old man out?” He smiled down at her fondly, she was loved by the elders for always listening to their stories and hanging around them with her interesting tall-tales.
“I can do that. Will you eventually teach me the technique for beating the sword into shape?” She looked up at him hopefully, she always wanted more knowledge.
He chuckled “Only when my lazy apprentice is here to carry my workload. Stop by sometime he is here and I’ll teach you then. But in the mean time, lets toughen up your skinny little arms by pumping the bellows!” With a giggle she ran off to start an afternoon of hard dirty work. The lazy apprentice never showed up up until the sun was setting. He had a package under his arm and was apologizing before he even entered the smithy.

“Not now, I’m almost done with this order. You know the one that you were supposed to help me with. Now grab those finished swords and take them back to my brother for sharpening. Torch can only hold so many.” As the apprentice trotted out, the smith leaned over and whispered “Before he comes back, want me to make something for you? I heard from Lomista that you are wandering about the forest catching and taming creatures. You’ll need protection from the dangerous beasts, so I’ll make one item for you today as a thank you for the help.”

“ummm….how about bracers? I think that will be the most useful right now”

“Alright let me make that right now for you” And he turned back to his anvil and quickly made up a set of metal bracers for Torcha. When he was done he picked up the package that the apprentice had brought when he returned and wrapped them together with a few bars of iron. “Here you go, Torch. Your apology gift, bracers and a little bit of iron so you can practice smithing on you own. Come visit me when you get bored,’kay?”

“Yay! Thank you. I’ll visit later, promise!” And she gave him a hug before scampering back to her tent to examine her new items.
