The morning sun had risen without the usual pre-dawn dive-bomb greeting of his best friend, which meant Raik got to sleep in just a touch... But he also sincerely missed his best friend's somewhat abrasive affection. He even woke up and feigned sleep, waiting for the sound of wings and the stomp of hooves mere inches from his nose. Hooves that never landed, and wing-beats that never came. Eventually the natural coated stallion gave up the charade and looked about, surprised to see morning had dawned and there was still no silver wind stallion in sight. Without Delri the morning was quiet, lacking in light-hearted ribbing and the affectionate drape of a wing over his back. It was almost disappointing, actually.

Climbing to his hooves slowly, and still searching the woods around him, Raik wondered if perhaps he'd gotten the day wrong. He could have sworn that Delri would be along today, and they would spend the day frisking by the ocean. The wind had told him there were signs of Mer and Kelpi -herds or schools? whatever they called themselves in a group- in the bay and the ocean beyond... Delri had seen them in his flight, and was hoping a dawn excursion would make him and Raikinti lucky enough to catch sight of one or two.

His best friend had seemed overjoyed at the thought of a new game... Had threatened over and over again to visit while the stars were still shining to make sure they were on the beach at sunrise. And then suddenly, Delri didn't show?

So Raikinti had taken himself to the beach, to see if maybe Delrialto had gone ahead without him. But though he galloped briskly along the wave-packed and and even floundered and rolled in the dryer, white grit... There was no sign of a flowing-haired wind with an obnoxiously endearing demeanor.

Still, for all of that, the morning was blessedly free of Kalona, Skinwalker and even worrisome crosses. In fact, it was almost soothing how 'normal' things seemed today. So after retracing his steps back to the path he'd found through the dunes, Raik turned his back on the beach for now. He'd search for Kelpi or Mer later, when Delri was about. A second set of eyes in the air was bound to be good for something. And maybe, by then, Raik would be able to "forgive" Delri for abandoning him today.

'Where-ever you've gone, Delri, you better have a good excuse when you return.' He muttered to himself as he wound through the wood. 'And a good story, too!'

***

His fit of pique at the still-absent wind momentarily set aside, Raikinti happily grazed the meadow of sweet-grass he found, tail flicking gleefully as he cropped mouthful after mouthful. The day was blessedly quiet and had gotten off to a pleasant start, even without his best friend... So he decided to just have a late breakfast, and enjoy the day as it decided to present itself.

It was sort of what Delri was always telling him, but he certainly wouldn't admit that out loud.

"You own me for this Delri... Do I look like your messenger girl? Honestly."

Following the directions her brother had made her memorize, the wind mare headed in the direction of where his best friend, a stallion she had never met, lived. He'd left to assist their father, grandfather and great grandfather in a matter regarding some uncle or whoever, she hadn't really been listening. Ignoring him made Delri as angry as a wet hen, and as a result, Tara did it just for fun. He'd apparently promised this stallion an adventure, and instead of making a pit stop to tell Raikinti himself, he'd begged her. She'd wanted to say no, but the look her mother shot her made her rethink that. Her mother was scary.

Taking a left at the mangled tree, Tara continued on her journey, hoping the stallion was there. She would be SO mad if she'd walked all the way out here just to find the male absent.

Breaking though the trees, the mare spotted a stallion, appearing to be the same stallion her brother had described. Smaller then average with a unique dark orange/brown coloring pattern. Smiling, she walked in to the clearing and called out, hoping she didn't startle the male.

"Hello! Raikinti? Hi. I'm Sitara... Delrialto's sister? He sent me with a message for you."

'It's too bad I didn't see a Mer, or ten, while I was there. That would certainly serve him right, me having all the fun and the luck on an adventure that he planned and then didn't show up for!' Raik thought to himself as he cropped grass, mulling over how best to get back at his friend.

Chances were Delrialto would make amends on his own, guilt was a wonderful thing. And the guilt of abandoning a best friend on an adventure you masterminded? Raik sincerely hoped it would keep the wind stallion up for at least a little while at night... But still, even if Delri came groveling for forgiveness, Raik didn't want to make it too easy on him. Who knows what Delri would think was allowable, if Raik didn't show him he was in trouble?

"A lecture is too easy, too expected." Raikinti grumbled to himself as he paused in his grazing. "He'll just stand there staring at me with those dumb cow eyes and I'll feel bad... I'll probably let him off easy just because. Nope, need something better..."

It was a good thing he had stopped eating, because the sudden presence of the mare in the glade would have made him choke. As it was the little stallion spun about as though expecting a snake (or a Kalona) and goggled at her for a minute or two as he swallowed the urge to shriek or sprint away.

'She looks a bit like Delri and seems harmless, she looks a bit like Delri and she seems harmless...' He repeated to him as he swallowed his heartbeat and waited for the panic to fade a bit.

When it seemed like he could respond normally, he cleared his throat. "Hello... Ah, yes, I'm Raikinti..."

'A message?' He wondered. Delri had spoken fondly of his sister, it didn't really seem like she'd be the type to run errands for him though. "Nice to meet you, Sitara. I am sorry to hear your brother's manners have so drastically declined as to send you way out here to make his excuses for him."

He offered a smile and a quick bob of his head. "Rude, if you don't mind my saying so... I hope your journey was a pleasant one? I certainly can't hear the message in peace until I am sure you took no harm from your journey to find me."

Raik could certainly behave like a gentleman, even if Delrialto had forgotten how. 'We are best friends, my brother on the wind... And I assure you I will never let you forget this little insult..' He mused to himself as he offered the mare a faint smile.

'If you were here right now, Delri, I would kick you for this. Twice.'

Delri had mentioned the male was rather skittish, and for good reason. A run in what that Kalona would do it to you. Aside from Delri calling her scary at least once a day as children, Tara didn't think she was all the imposing. The again, her mother was a tiny thing and could probably go toe to toe with any of a larger size and come out the victor. Like she had said, her mother was scary.

Smiling at the stallion, Tara came closer at a slow pace, hoping to not overwhelm the male. Although, he DID hang out with Delri, so the male couldn't have been that easily overwhelmed.

"That's my brother for you. Rude may as well have been his given name." Rolling her eyes, the mare ruffled her wings and gave the stallion a wink. "Don't you worry, I'll have my revenge. And yes, my trip was just fine. I nearly got lost, and I'm ninety percent sure I have some sort of thorn in my back," The mare spun in a vain attempt to spot said offensive pain in her back, "But other then that? It was a great trip. You live in a really pretty place! How long have you- Oh, look at me, babbling away. I came to deliver a message and I can't shut up long enough to get it out!"

The copper-coated stallion rumbled to himself with a petulant sort of sound, pawing restlessly at the ground beneath his cloven hooves. He grabbed another mouthful of grass and chewed thoughtfully, still debating how he would guilt his best friend the next time they met. Delri would need to be handled, this was just insulting. 'You're my best friend, but there are times I could cheerfully kick you all across the land.'

But that was later, at any rate, because Delrialto wasn't here. Which is not to say that the sister should suffer for the brother's shortcomings, because that was hardly fair. It wasn't her fault her brother had sent her to handle him, and Raikinti couldn't in good conscience pretend otherwise. He wouldn't take it out on her either, and while he was terrible at meeting new people, he'd give it a try. She was Delri's sister, she couldn't be that bad with references like that.

Besides, the night-sky coated mare standing before him was little and graceful. Small enough that even Raik, slightly built as he was, didn't really feel threatened by her. Then again, Raikinti did remember Delrialto speaking of his family. His mother in particular was slight, graceful and finely-built. While it leant a little more grace to Delri than the sleek-warrior build he inherited from his sire, it was clear this lovely lady took more strongly after their mother.

He watched her approach with forward-flicked ears, attempting to convey curiosity and hesitant welcome. He wouldn't shout at her that he was mad at her brother, but the tension in his back and hindquarters probably alluded to that fact. Still, he would be pleasant and courteous and hear what she had to say, she had come quite a ways to say it after-all.

"Do your parents know what a terror he is?" Raik questioned lightly, tilting his head as he smiled at her. "His given name? He's earned it, either way. One of those unofficial middle names, I guess."

He grinned at the eye-roll and the wink, watching the slip-flutter of feathers as she resettled her wings. "Will you? Can I help? I'm looking for my own slice, but since you did get sent way out here to me... It seems like, if I can help you get revenge, I should."

He didn't think that it would hurt his own schemes either. It would probably do well to remind Delri that his friends and sister could team up to make his life miserable when he was being an a**. And he rather was, but they loved him anyway. He was lucky, but there was no telling him that.

"A thorn? Forgive me for my part in the harm that has come to you, then." He peered at her as she turned about, attempting to see said thorn. "I am glad the trip was pleasant."

He glanced at his surroundings, smiling faintly. This was not far off his usual resting place, so he did suppose it was home enough. That fact that she called it beautiful made him feel a little pride in it, though he did agree with her. It was far more lovely than his homeland, which of course was a factor in his deciding to stay.

"I thank you very much for your compliments." He returned pleasantly. "And I assure you that conversation is most welcome, after being abandoned by your brother. I have been here a few seasons now, and in the land a little longer... But this place was one of my more recent settlements, I think it will be home... It would be nice, to have a home again."

He laughed. "Lady Sitara, I do ask that you dare not rush into delivering a message on your brother or my account. I am enjoying the conversation and the company, and would hate to make you feel that either were unwelcome."
